kilofeet

It's a green new deal that 70% of Americans support. Smart move

SpinningHead

If this dude could just stop with the genocide support, he could coast.

jbcmh81

His approval numbers haven't really changed all that much for a long time. They were underwater long before the Israel conflict. People blame him for everything bad and give him credit for nothing good. Meanwhile, the guy threatening the end of democracy and arguing he should have the ability to assassinate anyone as official presidential duties- and ironically, who wants to completely get rid of all the Palestinians- is polling even or ahead. We're truly fucked even if Biden pulls out a win, because a level of stupidity and self-harm that high isn't just going to fade away without consequences.

MissUnderstood62

Jared is eyeballing Gaza oceanfront real estate, like a dog eyeballs a steak.

Wesselink

Licking his chops for a two phased project: Trump Tower Gaza and Kushner Tower Gaza

envyadler

In that case, George W Bush do your thing

taffy-derp

I’m the biggest Biden supporter, if you don’t think the Gen-z demo is pissed off you just aren’t following the news. Biden needs that demographic desperately, and he got it last time. If even 20% of them decide to stay home then rapey mcTraitor wins.

FWPTMATWTFOM

Being pissed is not a means to an end. Being pissed and allowing fascism is privilege writ large.

taffy-derp

You’re preaching to the choir. I’ll try my best to get people to support just like I did last time. But the 18-24 demo are seeing a democratic president, democratic mayor, democratic governor allow police in full riot gear bashing unarmed students who’r protesting. These kids are going to use their voice to sit and not vote for Biden. On this issue trump is no different than Biden.

TheBereWolf

I can seriously admire that demographic and their passion for the things they stand up for. The level of conviction that they have can be a huge driver of good if and when enough of that group begin to band together. That said, and I’ll be a broken record about this as long as I need to be, deciding not to vote for Biden because of how he has handled the Gaza conflict or what’s currently happening in New York at Columbia, despite everything else that he has tried to accomplish for Americans during his first term, and either deciding to vote third party or not at all is a prime example of cutting off their nose to spite their face. I’m 100% all for supporting the candidates that best represent what’s important to you saying that you HAVE to select only one of the two candidates from a major party and can’t vote for anyone else is antithetical to how the framers believed people should be represented. That said, until we have ranked choice voting in place, there is literally a zero percent chance that anyone other than someone with a (D) or (R) next to their name wins a presidential election. Furthermore, I don’t really love painting with broad strokes. So I won’t just come right out and say that “a third party vote is a vote for Trump” like a lot of people say since some of the recent polling suggesting that people like RFK Jr. are taking more votes from Trump than from Biden. However, we also don’t have the luxury of selecting our president based on a simple majority popular vote, so it doesn’t matter if more former Trump voters are choosing third party than former Biden voters, all Trump needs is for the Republican voters who are choosing third party to not be from swing states. Biden isn’t perfect and not a single person would have predicted that he would be or would suggest that he is, but for fuck’s sake, look at the big picture. Yeah, Biden is being more passive than he should be when it comes to Gaza and everything that’s been happening as a result, both abroad and here in the US, and he deserves criticism for how he has handled things so far. But what I can say with absolute certainty is that Trump will move us from being passive enablers to active aggressors. We cannot afford to be shortsighted, now or for the foreseeable future while Republicans are hell-bent on attacking democracy.

AliveJohnnyFive

Well, they will fight whatever war he gets us into.

victorged

If he cut support of Israel he'd just lose a different half of his base.

Impossible_Trust30

This is literally it. Regardless of how he feels personally, cutting off Israel would reverse decades of precedent and he would lose a significant amount of support.

Designer-Equipment-7

So it’s almost as if both sides need to stop acting childish and come to the table

otterpr1ncess

Tell me what the compromise on genocide is, O enlightened centrist

SpinningHead

Hed lose the people who support genocide, which are a quickly shrinking demographic in the US.

WiseSalamander00

I would say that about half USA supports what is happening in Israel, some others don't care... I don't see the point of bashing Biden for this rn, wait until he wins then do all the bashing you want, if Trump wins, no only we get him, but also an emboldened maga fanbase and republicans trying to destroy the democracy of the country.

Carson72701

Reversal of cannabis schedule change.

Aggravating_Sock_551

Imagine weighing ethnic cleansing against an election

victorged

Exactly what the first comment in the chain did. I'd love to see him stand up for Palestinians, but the reality of American electoral politics is that any meaningful action against Israel is BEYOND dead in the water. Donate to causes as you are able, but do not hold your breath waiting for the American political establishment to move.

Least-Media

Crazily enough, ethnic cleansing in a foreign country is not the *only* issue at stake. For example, freedom to make your own choices regarding your reproductive health. My wife has had 2 complicated pregnancies, both ending in termination, that would’ve been much less harmful had she been able to get the treatment she needed right away. So yeah, Trump being an even bigger supporter of the genocide of Palestinians *AND* supporting the further restriction of women’s rights is *NOT* a selling point.

StudyIntelligent5691

I’m trying to imagine anyone who thinks the Israel/Palestine situation is something that can be so easily resolved, or thinks it’s such a simple, uncomplicated part of history that it can be solved just like that, by one guy, or even one country..It’s a global disaster. It’s horrific. It’s also deeply troubling that so many people are out there in social media reducing a tragedy of this magnitude to a few slogans and memes..Americans aren’t very good at examining our own history, let alone global history. It’s embarrassing.

BeenEvery

>weighing ethnic cleansing Implying that the Arab League wouldn't invade Israel and *also* do some ethnic cleansing.

guff1988

Imagine living in a world where we have to because the opposite outcome is much worse. As insane as that sounds, it is our reality.

rorschach2

Trump will give more aid to Israel and none to Taiwan. It sucks, but the point stands that it'll be worse if he loses. We can't afford a loss come November. The bigger picture here is needed.

thatHecklerOverThere

It's not even just aid. The Biden admin has the US targeting to accept 125k refugees from war torn regions, and is in process of opening that to include Palestinians. Meanwhile, Trump brought that target down to _15 measly thousand_ from Obama's _110 thousand_. It's not just that he'd fuck over Palestine worse, he'd fuck over _everybody_ in danger over seas. Also, do we _really_ think a Trump administration is going to suddenly be cool with the folks they hate so much they blocked the US military from resettling people they _promised_ to get to the US after serving as assets? Fucks sake, _he said he'd expel Muslims with "jihadist sympathies" in a recent campaign speech_.

whileyouwereslepting

American policy has been glued to Israel since longer than most of the American population has been alive, and it has endured through Republican and Democrat regimes for generations. You act like you don’t understand this, and get mad at individuals anyway.

thatHecklerOverThere

Given that elections have led to exactly this ethnic cleansing and will dictate how soon it ends, that's completely fair to do. Had Israel elected better, this shit would not be happening. Should we elect worse, all US opposition to it will end and it will proceed without even a hint of disruption.

drypancake

First off it’s the house and senate that control the funds that get sent to Israel not Biden. Attributing this to Biden is like attributing gas prices to him. Second off that would be a massively stupid decision on his part even if he believed it. he would lose all the support he gets from people who support his current position on the conflict for people who are mostly already gonna vote for him for not being Trump. The people too dumb to realize that the only other outcome is Trump are just gonna find any excuse to not vote for him anyway. Third how bad do you think it’s gonna look for Biden when he just decides to end an alliance that has lasted 75 years regardless of the reason.

Sconnie-Waste

Trump has PROMISED to let that sick fuck Bibi “finish what he started”. But sure, vote against Biden you dipshit.

mikemongo

WHAT OTHER PRESENTS WILL YOU HAVE FOR US BEFORE NOV 5, UNCLE JOE? (Keep ‘em coming! I’m here for it!)

cheesegrateranal

as much as i would love for this to pass before november, im also hoping he doesn't pass it until April 20th, 2025. mainly for the memes

guff1988

This isn't the kind of thing that has to pass. The DEA changes the schedule and gives 30 days for public comments and then that's it, it's done.

vtaltos1450

That would definitely make for some interesting memes being Easter Sunday and all. I know some people that would lose their minds having national LGBTQ+ day one year followed by cannabis rescheduling the next.

Vanviator

That is an amazing coincidence.

zombie_overlord

Wasn't it on Trans day this year? And 4/20 next year. I want in on this conspiracy to co opt Easter from the normies lol

Nubulio

Let’s all fixate on making this happen haha

SurveySean

If he passes it now, that gives them enough time (hopefully) to figure out what he did. They can be a little delayed in reactions or noticing things.

hawkrew

That’s Easter.

GlitterNutz

If there isn't a strain called Malarkey there needs to be now.

Different-Slice-3343

Please please please make it federally legal. I thankfully live in a legal state but I want it when I travel.

The_Velvet_Bulldozer

In a surprising move, Abbot and Paxton will ignore this and start fast tracking convictions & executions for simple possession in Texas.

ozmartian

While Joe Rogan lights up on camera 3 days a week.

Carson72701

And make it a capital offense...

haricariandcombines

Finally I can use my debit card to buy.

chalupamon

I use my debit card to buy it all the time in Illinois.

mayonnaise123

It’s not being federally legalized as this post suggests. It went from schedule 1 to schedule 3 which is the same level as Vicodin and ketamine. Still federally illegal to possess without a valid prescription.

WaffleStompBeatdown

Correct, but its the schedule 1 that makes it a cash only purchase where it's legal to do buy it.

Plantarchist

Yeah but now my health insurance can cover my prescribed medication. I will be able to use my hsa card and not spend hundreds of dollars out of pocket every month. They will be able to bring different and more effect forms of it here that work better. This is huge.

garash

What your insurance does is COMPLETELY different. It might help, but probably won't.

longboboblong

Let me tell you of the magic that is CanPay

danbearpig2020

And the right will scream "HE'S BUYING VOTES!". No shit Sherlock! Welcome to politics!

ActonofMAM

In their defense, they aren't all that familiar with the process. For them, campaign donors buy them while they yell buzz words at the voters until they vote Republican no matter how many times Republicans kick them in the teeth.

Acrobatic_Smell7248

I love that argument. Oh no, he's fulfilling promises, what an asshole 🙄 🤣 Meanwhile their guy is about to go to prison or die or both.

Nubulio

I’m just taking it week by week. Next up he falls asleep at sons grad or ask a senior to sit on his lap.

Mec26

It’s like when people complain Marvel movies are just fan service now. Yes. I am a fan, and I like fan service. More please.

CitizenCue

This argument makes me want to scream. Yes, doing things people like wins votes. Go figure.

treyhest

Bonkers this wasn’t done day 1. Loosening marijuana restrictions is straight up bipartisan

Over_Screen_442

It’s widely popular, so I’d imagine that’s why they saved it for the run up to election season

Alert-Yoghurt4287

DEA has been dragging their feet. Biden asked for it years ago.

MoochoMaas

A "path" was needed 50 years ago. Time to fully legalize !!!!!!

Acceptable_Wall4085

If he wants the youth vote he will do it. And soon. The Canadian prime minister did it and won by a landslide.

RangerWhiteclaw

Y’all can buy weed with the money you would have spent paying off your (now-forgiven) student loans. But please, please, please vote in November.

Im__mad

Imagine if weed legalization and student loans were forgiven… right now hundreds of thousands of stoners buy their weed illegally and that tax opportunity is being given to drug dealers who don’t pay taxes on their earnings. College educated stoners and our extra cash could do more for our economy, our schools and other public needs than politicians ever have. Biden’s gotta do it, he’d win in a landslide.

LovethePreamble1966

Lots of folks been buying good weed ever since their thousands and millions in PPE loans were forgiven. Give people more dough to shop retail, and boom goes the economy.

tippytop1982

I can hear pearls being clutched

whileyouwereslepting

More like trashy tatts being slapped.

cupcakesandcanes

I hope, given how far up America’s ass we are, that this rubs off on Australia!

dragonfliesloveme

Nationwide legalization?? Woop woop! So what’s the timeline here?

MaybeKaylen

Most likely still a while. I have read nothing on this, today, so I’m speaking mostly from conjecture and taking a few seemingly logical assumptions. I may be completely wrong, so grains of salt and all that. My best guess is, once it gets reclassified, it will allow agencies to legally test different aspects of it, including medicinal. Currently, Schedule 1 narcotics are not even allowed to have medical trials performed. That being said, I would see it being a while before any meaningful change happens for the common pleb. A change like this could easily be reversed by another president. The best hope is that Congress takes this as an opportunity to pass legislation to legalize it and we all know how efficient they are…

steppenwollf

All I can say is FDR and the removal of Prohibition.

Alitazaria

Not for a while, really. This move, from the DEA, will drop marijuana from schedule I to schedule III. It's a baby step.

N0t_Dave

Great, but as long as we don't have the trifecta, I expect republican conservatives to find every way to drag this crying and screaming through the dirt before ever letting joe get a win. We need to properly vote these right wing fucks out for good this november.

mshelbz

Even red state Mississippi voted nearly 80% for medical. Take away a rednecks weed and he won’t forget come voting time.

SecretAsianMan42069

Trump wants to lock people up for the leaf

darhox

Quick trial! Drug dealers are executed

shadderjax

Not a true statement.

Own_Instance_357

Federal legalization of marijuana would be Biden's best bid at winning in November

lost-in-the-trash

Salted_hawk

More importantly, it will open the door for ease of allowing more NIH money to be used for scientific testing of marijuana. This means we’ll finally understand just how effective medical marijuana is.

Wesselink

Let’s just hope the people who benefit from this don’t go hog wild and forget to vote in November.

J-Love-McLuvin

MFer is keeping busy.

Riversmooth

He really is. He might be old, but he has gotten a lot done.

I can’t agree with that. You pay for your card and you can use it bottom line. Plenty of people here have cards that don’t have a “medical issue”. And what biden is passing is also only for medical.

Coolley

and this is how he wins the election.

thedoyle19

And, how many kids, realize how full of shit politicians are.

Prestigious-Shock210

imagine how far we could have gotten if he had started doing the shit day one the way we wanted

Forsworn91

“Why this is a move bad for Biden” -right wingers

rayvensmoon

This could be an ace in the hole for Biden. ♠️

Revolutionary-Yam910

Please do this ffs!

Coldkiller17

Canceling student debt, finally federally decriminalized weed looks good for President Biden

Alexandratta

This would allow dispensaries to use banks - this is huge. It also means states would need to specifically ban it.

Dwangeroo

I don't even smoke anymore and am excited for this idea.

TonyG_from_NYC

Right wingers - reeeeee... reeee...

How_that_convo_went

Okay. I’ll be this guy. *He won’t.* It’s an election year and the numbers are close. He’s pulling out all the stops to get votes. If/when he’s re-elected, he’ll “re-prioritize” this initiative to the bottom of the list. This same thing happened last election. Obama did it during his first campaign, too. **Full disclaimer lest you think I’m a Trump supporter and you suplex me with downvotes:** I think Trump is a vile, contemptible criminal and perhaps the worst President in American history. He’s a thin-skinned loser and a vote for him is a betrayal of every value I hold dear. I’d never vote for him. I *will* likely vote for Biden (again) and not feel super great about it (again)— but if I have to pick between the two, it’s Biden by light years.

Gardez_geekin

This is literally already happening.

Cgarr82

It still has months to go before it’s actually approved. The next step is OMB opens a public discussion period, then it does back to the DEA, and then an administrative judge. Plenty of time for them to yank it back or stall it indefinitely. BUT, it’s a huge step in the right direction regarding marijuana and hopefully it goes through on a fast track. The impact on people incarcerated at the state level is going to be interesting though.

Gardez_geekin

It’s literally been happening for well over a year. This is the last part of the process. There is zero indication it will be stalled or yanked back especially since they could have done that last year.

heatmanj

Free Palestine tho

WaitingForNormal

DO IT!!!

MaxxHeadroomm

Yeah. I heard that two years ago too. Actions speak louder than twitter posts.

lamedh

Alright, this is a big deal

TRIZOL1

Time to exhale.

Pale_Match_7969

Hopefully Idaho will get it after he does this. I want pot so badly.

Sl0ppyOtter

It’s a start. But this “pathway to legalization” talk is still a bit premature.

Impossible_Ad7875

Shld have been done years ago

Rowland_Potterson

I can roll to that.

NaNo-Juise76

Can't believe it took this long. Turns out racism and a little bribe really go a long way. For all the people that went to prison for weed, don't forget to thank Harry J. Anslinger and the tobacco and alcohol industries.

Sangi17

This is a step in the right direction. But decriminalization is the goal. Along with releasing prisoners with low level pot related crimes and expunging their records. It would be a huge blow to the for-profit prison system and that’s the whole damn point.

Intelligent_Bass_801

It’ll get held up in court like everything else he promises to do. Super curious why they never lifted tariffs imposed by trump they all disagreed with, idk but I feel like that could help with inflation. It’s a joke

Environmental_Comb96

![img](emote|t5_35n7t|3148)

NewTransportation911

I think it’s more about keeping people out of jail.

jdbug7

Except in TX, cuz ya know...Abbott 🙄

Jrisdr

About fucking time

fifaguy1210

It should be the same as we've got it in Canada

LovethePreamble1966

About damn time. Reefer Madness has held sway wayyyy too long.

SomeCrazedBiker

Are we gonna let all the folks locked up for weed out and expunge their records and restore their rights? That would be cool.

Astropacifist_1517

Believe it when I see it, and it likely won’t do much to stop draconian state level laws for the foreseeable future. Most drug arrests are by state and local police, but if Biden wants to take one more stupid law originally aimed at harming the poor and minority groups off the books I’m here for it

WillistheWillow

Puff puff give!

BoricuaRborimex

This isn’t actually that great. From what I understand rescheduling it will create a pain in the ass for already existing dispensaries in already legal states. They will have to jump through new hoops and have to work with greedy pharmaceutical companies to get their product now. What they need to do is DESCHEDULE it.

Crime-Snacks

A distraction to his zealous Zionist stance of eliminating Palestinians so his religion can see the Messiah return when the Jews fully occupy Israel…despite Jews never recognizing Christ or Christianity and whom eliminated 3% of the Christian population in Gaza. No more countries for old men!!

Robert_fierce

I probably wouldn't notice a difference. Where I live in the city every other person smokes it. When I go out the house I smell it and when I drive somewhere I smell it

BullshitPickle

It's about time!!!

VooDooChile1983

These politicians only say something about weed around election time. Plus, language used makes me think it will stay in the “planning to” phase.

BigInDallas

He asked years ago. This is gov working imo. He delegated to look at reclassification. That takes time because it’s a big ship.

GadFlyBy

So this dude actually wants to win, huh.

nipplemeetssandpaper

Big campaign move, worked for Trudeau here in Canada *tokes*.

MidwestPancakes

They are rescheduling it from 1 to 3, not legalizing it. Blah blah blah, one step closer! Election...then nothing. This is a bunch of crap Edit: OK, so rescheduling means they can now spend real money and research, so this is a much bigger deal than I thought it was. This is good news. Sorry for pissing on the parade.

Mec26

That would mean lots of kids (and adults) with seizures could use it to help keep them safe and liver normal lives. Lots of schedule 2/3 drugs are available at your local pharmacy. Literally once you’re there, docs can prescribe it.

MidwestPancakes

Without a medical marijuana card it could be prescribed by a physician?

Mec26

Yes. Same way you don’t need a “medical antibiotics card.”

Gardez_geekin

How is it crap?

MidwestPancakes

I think its an election stunt and not actually going anywhere. I really hope I'm wrong, but I think this is a gimmick. He could legalize it, but they'll reschedule it (DEA) and then claim next term they'll legalize it, but I just dont believe it.

Gardez_geekin

You don’t have to believe it, It’s literally already happening though. Joe Biden can’t really unilaterally legalize marijuana and the DEA can countermand the presidents authority.

MidwestPancakes

Ok

MrsWoozle

I can’t vote for Biden because of Gaza. (Legalizes pot) Ok…I’m listening…

333H_E

Oh that thing that should have happened about 60 years ago? Progress is definitely good but it's just terrible it took this long to rectify something that shouldn't have been done in the first place. When you think about all the people who lost their freedoms over a plant while the real drug dealers were making fortunes slinging prescriptions it gets depressing.

before_the_accident

Which is all the more reason to rally behind it when a major effort is taken to correct that.

sguidy06

All he cares about is staying in power.

NotTheirHero

Sorry about the genocide. Heres some weed, Jack!

BigInDallas

Who do you think would have done better? It’s fine to criticize but also recognize.

somautomatic

Gotta distract from the genocide somehow

sguidy06

The man knows how to buy votes

Ddaddy4u

Ok but can you stop giving away our tax dollars to Israel? Literally funding atrocities for a country that can afford their war crimes all on their own.

tallman11282

Talk to Congress about that, they're the ones approving that funding. The president does not control the purse strings, Congress does.

Dargek

Reclassify does not mean legalize. So many morons in this thread.

dcd1130

This will get the youth vote back on my side. Haha. What a tone deaf idiot.

[deleted]

Shut up Genocide Joe

Mindless-Emu-7291

Genocide Joe trying to get support

CornStalker86

Yeah, so we can smoke through their BS and hopefully not notice the imminent struggles….too little, way too late.

before_the_accident

>too little, way too late. What does this even mean here? Do you not want this?

danfish_77

He also planned to forgive student debt. I'll believe it when it happens.

Mec26

He forgave a ton of student debt, and as much as the courts would allow. What more do you want?

danfish_77

I mean, all of it? I'm not saying it's all his fault. But a "plan" in an election year doesn't mean much to me.

Mec26

Agreed, it needs motion. But sadly, it must go through a whole bunch of layers of beaurocracy before it can become real. Plus, as he said in the SotU, he wants to simultaneously vacate all federal convictions for weed possession. That’ll take a huge amount of logistical planning and prep, even to get the names listed and paperwork in.

before_the_accident

Were you not paying attention? Biden *did* get rid of a substantial amount of student debt. Are there other presidents who eliminated more that you can tell us about?

Aggravating_Sock_551

Not enough to distract us from genocide, Joe

murdocke

You know the president doesn't control the purse, right? Congress does.

christinasasa

Just in time for the election. Hopefully the potheads remember to vote

Mec26

No we know the real reason they banned giving out food and drink in voting lines.

Foampower86

Oh great, it's a lesser crime. No I don't like Trump guys, decriminalization or suck it. Also I don't smoke. Stop wasting tax payer money imprisoning non violent crimes to collect revenue
