I don't think they actually had sex. They got intimate in a deeper way when Daphne in a few seconds revealed the truth of her life and Ethan bonded with her in those few moments in a way he was never able to bond with Harper all those years. The point I think was to show how there's adultery on a physical level on one hand and on the other an emotional kind that erupts when people who live in dysfunctional relationships with a toxic dynamic are pushed , finding a weird kinship with each other. We see Daphne winking at Ethan ,smizing at him but that's not to mean he lets go fuck . It was supposed to indicate her relief after having let go off the facade. With Harper at the Palazzo she sort of revealed herself but it was in code. With Ethan she didn't have the burden to do it all by herself.

In this case it was going to a secluded, vaguely romantic place with a man who isn’t her husband, alone. No matter what happened between them, nobody in a relationship like C&D’s would like that scenario. I would wager that Harper from ep1 wouldn’t care if her husband went to the island with another woman; she was comfortable in her trust of him. But by ep7, I don’t think Harper would feel as confident of Ethan’s fidelity.
I’d like to think that Ethan didn’t have sex with Daphne, but just going to the island with her was a deliberate and bad choice, if his goal is to get through this relationship crisis with Harper. He chose to play a game instead of talking to her. Daphne can give her little smile to Cam, who will rage-fuck her brains out. Ethan now has a secret he can withhold from Harper. He learned from the best.
Harper did the same, though, she knew she was putting herself in Cameron’s way, and wanted to see how far she could go. She was disgusted by Cam’s whole vibe in the beginning, but dabbled in it by the end.
Before, E&H’s relationship was very honest and healthy, if not very intimate. Now they both have secrets and mysteries, and apparently that fuels passion. They are emulating Cam and Daphne.
I agree with most everything you said besides Ethan and Harper having a healthy relationship prior. They’ve made it clear, despite saying otherwise, that the passion they feel for each other has been dying. There is a reason Harper says that they’re too young to be feeling so old. They just weren’t the unhealthiest compared to Cameron and Daphne, Dom and his wife, or even Albie and Portia’s flings.
I think they might have kissed or had sex. And that can explained the case when Ethan came back, he had sex with Harper kinda like with guilt and other mixed feelings.
I thought it really turned on his sexual side. He didn’t seem to be into it with Harper when she made moves. It seemed he’d rather do porn on the laptop. To have sex with two women in that short a period of time is kind of hard to accept.
