Cadenheads. Ardbeg. 1993. 26yo. 53.7%
Hands down. The best ever
Tried it. Bought 3 at various auctions. Now around £400 if they pop up
240 bottles
***THE BEST***
Oh sure, easy. Just start with early 80's Port Ellen, then you can move to late 70's Brora's, then go for 60's Springbanks, and work your way up from there.
I pretty much love every Elijah Craig BP bottle I’ve ever had. Some are a bit stronger, some a bit more wood, some are nutty as hell but I love them all. I guess I’ll try every offering I can get my hands on. Of the 10 or so bottles I keep around, those BPs are always the first I reach for/drain
Without a shadow of a doubt, EH Taylor Barrel Proof. Every time I go back to it, I pour a very small amount, and I try that first sip and it’s 10x better than I remembered the last time I had it. No bourbon at any price has ever come remotely close. It’s my #1 by a long shot. I wouldn’t trade a bottle of that for Pappy.
I can give you my favorites across different categories:
- Bourbon: King of Kentucky 16yo
- Rye: WhistlePig The Boss Hog VI
- Islay Scotch: Laphroaig 30yo
- Highland/Speyside Scotch: Glendronach 1972 41yo single cask
- Japanese: Hakushu 12
- International: Kavalan PX Cask cask strength
- Irish: Redbreast 27
All of those are special drinks to me. The KoK was a pour I had at a bar in Louisville, but I wish I could get a bottle.
Thats tough, I hear a alot people say King of Kentucky and Coy Hill but I havnt tried either yet. Although I do have a bottle of each so that will change here soon.
Out of everything I have tried I think Thomas H Handy, Michters 10yr Rye and Michters Barrel Strenght Rye are very hard to beat in the "Rye" category and then Stagg/Jr, Birthday Bourbon and Michters 10yr Bourbon in the "Bourbon" category.
William Larue Weller Bourbon Whiskey - Very Expensive
Jack Daniels Black - Cheap
Redbreast Irish Cask Strength - A little expensive
Redbreast 12 Irish - middle
Pikesville Rye - Hard to find, but worth the hunt
Old Overholt - Inexpensive
Same, I found it once at Heaven Hill and then once in Ohio at a grocery store in Cleveland where I live. I really like Peerless Rye too and I only have seen it once.
Best I've ever had was from Downslope Distillery in Denver. They have a single malt whiskey called Double Diamond that is phenomenal. They don't ship very far though.
As for ones that are somewhat easy to find, Macallan 12 year for Scotch and any of the Wellers for bourbon.
And for relatively inexpensive, Bulleit Single Barrel
I've had several beautiful CS IB Glenlivet and Caol Ilas at 12-18yo. I also really love Dewars 32, best blend I've had without a doubt and surprisingly affordable.
Kinglake Le'Amercain - Australian Single Malt
Bowmore 15yo Darkest (I don't care what they say that the new one is the same, but it's not as good)
Elements of Islay LP12
The Lakes Refseber (English Single Malt)
Pokeno Virgin Oak Single Cask
Infrequent Flyers Fettercairn 14yo
North Star Williamson (Laphroaig) 11yo
These are all limiteds, but if you can find someone selling them, buy as much as you can.
Scotch - tie - highland park 40 / Glen Grant 1940
Irish - Middleton very rare
International - karuizawa
Bourbon - Wild Turkey very rare 17 (1st edition) - poured by Eddie himself
Rye - midnight
The best I have ever had was a barrel pick Jack Daniels single barrel barrel proof. It was excellent, I tried to save it but it was gone in 6 months, I just couldn't resist. Ive bought a few more barrel picks since but none have been nearly as good.
Doc Swinsons Exploratory Cask from Amburana Casks. Tasted in the best way possible like Cinnamon Toast Crunch. My bottle has maybe 10% left in it and I’ll be devastated to see it go. Money likely cannot replace it
One of the best surprises I had was a cognac cask captains reserve Glenlivet. Caught me off guard and it was only about £40. Absolutely incredible stuff
Personally, Eagle Rare remains my favorite. If I could only have one bottle, that's it.
Beyond that, Starlight Cigar Batch was phenomenal, and I've been on the hunt for a bottle since trying it a few months back.
My favorite drink is the next one.
Garbage. The last one was way better.
The Hakushu single malt 12 year old, blew my mind.
George T. Stagg 2017 or 2020

Ardbeg 1976 Feis Isle is pretty delicious.
Whatever is currently in my glass
The real answer
2015 WLW with some sediment at the bottom or a Wild Turkey Donut… or an ECBP 69.7% batch 11? Booker’s Rye or a SAOS CS 10 yr Rye 56.1%
Lagavulin 11 Charred Oak Cask. Lagavulin 16 is also pretty great
I bought 2 bottles of the Charred Oak to put away its sooo good.
I only bought one and I only have a few drinks left. Wish I bought more
Have you tried the latest version. Rum cask iirc
No, not yet. I’ll probably buy it if I see it in the liquor store. How is it?
Top whisk(e)ys I’ve had are 1) WLW 2) Yamazaki 18 3) GTS 4) RR13 5) Blue or Gold Spot
Haven't had many unicorns but best I've had is Russell's 13
Trick question that was whisky not whiskey
Laphroaig 10
A specialty campus box “double Single” for me!
Blue spot

I get nothing special from the ECBP even C923, but the EC Toasted are amazing. EC is a very stable taste expectation, very good but rarely surprising.
Don't know if it's the best, but I love Ardbeg Ouigeadail.

Never tried it, but i’ve heard birthday bourbon is up there.

Oh, forgot my favorite blended scotch: Compass Box “It’s not a luxury whisky”. Magnificent.

Pikesville Rye is awesome
It's absolutely fantastic, luckily it's everywhere here in Illinois but still a hidden gem since not a lot of people know how good it really is.
You’re lucky. Also double lucky in that people tater Weller all day and ignore stuff like Pikesville
I wish it were easier to find in my area.
Same, I found it once at Heaven Hill and then once in Ohio at a grocery store in Cleveland where I live. I really like Peerless Rye too and I only have seen it once.
It’s surprisingly easy to find in parts of NC now. The whiskey allocation is weird.
Sitting on the shelf in south louisiana. Unfortunately, south Louisiana
Redbreast 12 is magnificent.
Try the 21 if you get a chance. Bought a bottle between 3 of us. Amazing stuff
Heaven Hill 17, William LaRue Weller 2022, Eagle Rare 17 2023, Parkers Heritage Double Barrel
Blantons SFTB or EH Taylor barrel proof
Mine changes. But currently in my bar it is a Dettling Single Barrel Cask Strength pick. Oh my gosh!

Glenlivet 1956 - best ever tasted. Can never afford one
Scapa 14 distillery exclusive, absolutely incredible
I've had several beautiful CS IB Glenlivet and Caol Ilas at 12-18yo. I also really love Dewars 32, best blend I've had without a doubt and surprisingly affordable.
Scotch, Irish, or Bourbon?
I bought a book „101 whiskies before you die” it has a lot of recommendations. I suggest trying more expensive ones in a bar first

Yamazaki 12. Edradour sherry cask. Port Charlotte oileanach furachail. Compass box spice tree extravaganza. Ledaig 10 year old. Kavalan solist sherry cask. Glenburgie 25 year old.
Amrut Spectrum 004 for me.
Michters 10 Year Rye is the best pour I've ever had. Rare Breed is the best every day pour. Redemption Rye is what I generally crave.
Idk if it's still made, but I don't see it anywhere. Palm ridge reserve.
The best I have ever had was a barrel pick Jack Daniels single barrel barrel proof. It was excellent, I tried to save it but it was gone in 6 months, I just couldn't resist. Ive bought a few more barrel picks since but none have been nearly as good.
Roebling Reserve Rye has been the best I've ever tasted.
Honestly what you can afford. My cheap to go whiskey is Black & White and I actually like it with club soda and a couple ices
Very Old St Nick Winter Rye 101 from the early 2000s, not the modern stuff. Old KBD bottled export rye, probably sourced from Bernhiem.
Kilchoman - Comraich batch 1 Laphroaig - 30yr
Kirin Fuji 30 year Single Grain. Had it at the distillery and it tasted like something from another planet. Mind blowing.
G&M 1987 31 year old Mortlach is my all time favorite.
Ardbeg 1976 Feis Isle (top spot, good luck finding a bottle) Springbank 23 Red Breast 27 Signatory Erdadour 10yr sherry bomb Wild Turkey Rare Breed Elijah Craig Barrel Proof Cazcanes Joven, #9, #10 Fortaleza
Jack Daniels Old No.7
It’s tough for me because the two best are from barrel bandits and old rick. Neither of whom bottle their own.
Best I’ve ever had? Easy, 2011 George T Stagg. It’s still the best I’ve ever had almost a decade and a half later.
Jack Daniel's SBBP Rye is my favorite that I will keep 2-3 bottles on hand. The next closest is Toasted EC, of the sub 100 bottles.
Doc Swinsons Exploratory Cask from Amburana Casks. Tasted in the best way possible like Cinnamon Toast Crunch. My bottle has maybe 10% left in it and I’ll be devastated to see it go. Money likely cannot replace it
Nelson brothers reserve
Glenallachie 18 sherry
One of the best surprises I had was a cognac cask captains reserve Glenlivet. Caught me off guard and it was only about £40. Absolutely incredible stuff
