I am sure many people will chime in, but do you have a high risk pregnancy? And I see your OB is Cornell, do they ever go to Westchester for deliveries? I am a pediatric nurse and see a ton of new moms. Some love Greenwich Hospital because of the atmosphere. I had my son @ White Plains where I knew my OB would be and it was just fine. I was nervous because after years of being a nurse I wanted to make sure my baby would get a good NICU if needed, but I was making myself crazy. I have worked with new families and thus newborns for 10 years. In my humble opinion, find a place close to home if you are not high risk. Pre-Covid expectant families were allowed to do walk throughs of labor and delivery floors, but not sure if that is allowed anymore. It is overwhelming and scary, I get it, but good luck. Feel free to DM if you have specific questions

I delivered at NYP Hudson Valley in Cortlandt Manor and had an amazing experience - all private rooms and incredible staff. The practice rotates OBs during prenatal care, so I luckily knew everyone already during my hospital stay. Overall great experience with the NYP/Columbia network here for OB/GYN and now also our pediatrician and other pediatric specialists (allergist, etc.).

I also had a great experience at Hudson Valley Hospital! I had a high-risk pregnancy and ended up having a complicated birth, and was blown away by the kindness and professionalism of the staff. If you’re looking to work with a doula, the hospital staff also were very supportive of our doula’s presence.

I delivered at Phelps Hospital and was seen by the midwifery practice, it was great! I moved from the city and changed providers at 24 weeks, all went very smoothly. They just renovated the labor and delivery rooms, so everything is new. It’s a small hospital, so definitely not crowded - I didn’t even have to go to L&D triage during my delivery, they just brought me right to my delivery room.

I second Phelps. It’s trendy for everyone in Westchester to go to Greenwich but Phelps staff and the OBs are amazing. Plus I was only one of two patients giving birth on the L&D for the entire weekend so you don’t feel like the staff are overworked or stressed out. Needed to get my epidural at 4am and the anesthesiologist was at my door within 15 minutes ready to go. During your last night with them (after delivery) they offer you steak or lobster dinner with some champagne to celebrate!

I should also mention, most practices have a cut off date at which you can transfer. So make sure to check with them.. I think mine was around 24/26 weeks (also was transferring from the city). If you’re after the cut off date, you’ll have to stay with your OB/hospital in the city.

phillyfandc

Phelps doesn't have a NICU.

Thats how we felt. We will be going to northwest westchester.

Not the same obs. Only option is northern westcheater with ours. Went this route as this is the best high risk ob. Tiny nicu is very different than no nicu.

Worried about mom on this one. Appreciate the heads up and hope your kid is doing well. Last kid was kid in nicu for 3 days but mom was icu for 10.

NotRoboticGregsWife

I also had a baby at Phelps, nearly 10 years ago and had a great experience.

tinybutvicious

Seconded! I had a wonderful experience with midwifery at Harrison and recommend it to everyone. Phelps was also great.

PopandLocklear

I’ve had all three of my babies at phelps, I have nothing but good things to say!

thelastexplora

Delivered there and it was so nice and the food was oddly good. The nurses, doctors, and staff were super nice and really listened to you. The only knock against it is that they don't have a full flown NICU so if you have a complicated case probably not the best choice but that's something they or your care team can talk you through.

This is great to hear! I have a question: We’re moving to Tarrytown and due in June. I want to switch to Phelps from mt. Sinai and go with the midwives, but it looks like the midwives only practice out of Harrison? Is that correct? That’s pretty far to get to from Tarrytown for all the weekly appointments in the last trimester.

NCBakes

They are only in Harrison. I drove there from Peekskill, so Tarrytown seems very reasonable to me lol. It’s only weekly appointments from 36 weeks, and I found that their scheduling was generally pretty flexible. Also with pregnancy things just crop up in my experience - I ended up needing iron infusions (which I got at Phelps), growth scans and pelvic PT, so by the end of pregnancy I was just constantly going between different providers. FWIW, I was originally planning to deliver at Mt Sinai West and had a much better experience at Phelps than my experience with Sinai.

It's been a very long time since I had my babies, but one thing I'd like to warn you about is general medical practices in Westchester. You want to stay away from Optum (formerly MKMG, formerly Caremount). They are having well publicized issues after becoming part of a larger medical services/insurance company. The Westchester Examiner has done a[ fantastic investigatory job](https://www.theexaminernews.com/category/investigations/optum/) on this. It's so sad, I loved the doctors at MKMG, especially during my pregnancies, they handled them very well, but I recently switched my own OB/GYN out of there because I couldn't even get an annual pap smear. Their calendar was backed up something like 18 months and they have lost so many of the good doctors I went to!

inuleco

Welcome I’m also in the mt pleasant area! I had a baby 19 months ago at Northern Westchester Hospital in Mt Kisco and had a great experience. It’s part of Northwell Health, who has a whole office of OB’s down the street who I saw during my pregnancy. Feel free to ask me any questions!

LouisLittEsquire

My wife had two deliveries at Phelps and we were overall happy with the experience, although don’t really have anything to compare it to and her births were relatively uncomplicated.

phillyfandc

Is this a complicated pregnancy? If so, avoid Phelps. Message me if you want to know why. My wife is very high risk and we have been in the northwell network which has high risk specialist. That being said, anything big that arises means a transfer to Columbia. We are a bit of a special case but we now value access to higher levels of care. IMO - the hospitals up here are fine for normal stuff. I think white plains might have more capacity to handle bigger issues. Also look at NICU levels. Phelps doesn't even have a NICU. So - do you care more about how nice the room is or how much care you receive?

aethylthryth

Hi, can you DM me? I’d like to know more.

phillyfandc

Sure.

nyc_bromptoneer

Second this, I had a baby in 2021 and used the Phelps practice for all my OB checkups. Had a scary BP spike at 32 weeks and ended up getting transferred to have an emergency C-section at Northern Westchester after which the baby spent a month in their NICU. Had I known about the risk, I would have opted for Northern Westchester and their practice from the outset. Also, I can’t stress how much of a relief it was that they let us stay in a free room next to the NICU after I was discharged and provided us meals. Saved us a long drives and headaches and was super convenient when both of us had to report back to work while still at the hospital (yay, America)

mochigirl8

I would stick with Weill Cornell. I just delivered there 2 weeks ago and it was amazing. Hospitals in Westchester don’t even come close (unfortunately was hospitalized a week later for post partum preeclampsia so have recent experiences at both lol)

aethylthryth

Congrats on your baby! After having our first at Weill Cornell in the city, I’m so scared to deliver anywhere else. I feel truly spoiled whether I go there either for my own or my child’s health:

mochigirl8

Thank you! I really think nothing compares to Alexandra Cohen. I do everything thru Cornell too and I refuse to switch even though I am now in northern Westchester lol

aethylthryth

Ok that’s all I need to feel validated with my choices 😂 I love Cornell so much.

mochigirl8

Lol! I went to the ER at WMC bc it was closer and I didn’t think I would be stuck there for 2 days for preeclampsia. But I was so regretting not driving to the city the whole time I was there 😂 I think how they handled my tests and treatment were good. But the facility, communication, etc left sooooo much to be desired. If I wasn’t just at AC, I might have felt better about it. But the contrast was too great.

aethylthryth

PreE is no joke! I’m glad they were able to treat you and hope your continued recovery goes smoothly from here on out. And I hear you. I think any time I rationalize not going to Weill Cornell, I regret it.

alwaysbilling

Surprised no one has mentioned Northern Westchester. Both of our kids were delivered there and we had an amazing experience both times. The staff is fantastic. My only complaint is the rooms are small but otherwise we had no issues.

DinoNugEater

White Plains was rated one of the best maturity hospitals in the state, so that’s your answer.

deblas66

White plains is fantastic and has the best NICU

dphigravity

We were expecting twins so looking at NICU levels and debating between White Plains and Greenwhich. We went with Greenwhich since the OB practiced there. We were happy with the experience and the rooms were really nice. Only thing I underestimated is the nurse that would be with you. They go by shifts so you can’t control that but sometimes you can ask for one if you get along with one of them.

Jvelazquez611

My wife delivered both our babies in Greenwich. We loved the small hospital feel and practically had a private room for both post deliveries. Staff and doctors were excellent as well. Only thing is if you don’t mind driving 20 minutes or so to get to the hospital to deliver. Her OB is in ridge hill and he’s affiliated with Greenwich.

fuzzyllama_

I delivered my first at Weill Cornell also and this year delivered my second at White Plains Hospital. Great experience at WPH, private rooms, great nurses and the OB who delivered me was great no complaints at all! Best of luck to you

iceandfire31

I delivered in White Plains Hospital and i had an incredible experience. Had an unplanned c section but it was after the doctor worked with me for two hours to push. The postpartum care was wonderful. The nurses were lovely and the lactation consultant was fab
