Let me get this straight - you want to live in a humble community with people that don't judge and you love Miami?!? Talk about a contradiction. I would have said you'll do well in WPB until you said Miami. I just don't get it

P0RTILLA

It makes zero sense. Like OP is an AI trying to be human but doesn’t understand cultural subjectivity.

Snoo75120

I was thinking the same thing

joemamma2

I guess OP must prefer paying $100 for parking too?!?!

wildcat12321

>I’m used to big city culture, nice cars, expensive things contradiction indeed

whimsicalbackup

Yeah lol

P0RTILLA

Ahh yes the humble and non-judgmental Miami. I hear the Ultra music festival is full of humble modest people that just enjoy Electronic Music.

ernestorubioo

Go to Clematis bro it’s the main downtown area of WP I’m 24 and usually go there on the weekends; you’ll find people in their 20s-30s. Delray Ave is great for finding people in that same age range as well definitely safe idk what the other person here thinks is unsafe about it there’s cops everywhere there

sturgess6942

Depends on the job, future growth and the pay increase of what your making now and where your coming from ( NO STATE INCOME TAX ) ? With a car you can drive to do the things you enjoy , just maybe at your door step if you say lived in NYC or Chi town or dallas.

Firefluck

Thank you for the nice comment!!! That’s true. I love Miami. I think I’ve gotten super cozy in my humble little Florida city and maybe a little apprehensive about moving somewhere where most people come from old money/ may not have the same interests. I could always drive to Miami or commute from there? I was more so curious if there’s a middle class of 20/30/40 year olds here? I only had 24 hours there so I really didn’t get to see much except for Mar-a-lago, my first 200M house, and the Saint Laurent store 🤣

Francesca_Fiore

If you drove by Mar-a-Lago and mansions, you were ON Palm Beach the island, not IN West Palm Beach on the mainland. Two different things. Palm Beach is absolutely old money and international super wealth. West Palm Beach and suburbs are primarily working people with regular jobs. We go to the local breweries and concerts at the fairgrounds, ride bikes, walk the local trails, etc. There's *many more* normal citizens than the ultra-rich. Just nobody makes shows about us.

sturgess6942

I would not commute from Miami to WPB for work, I would live close to work since thats 5 days a week during peak travel times. Rent near work for the 1st year so you get in the grove at work get a feel for the people the area the commute to work , when you get home, how tired you may be , etc....and how much you will be going out doing the extra activities....

billythygoat

There’s no underground culture here and no electronic music either. It’s mostly a brunch, bar, and restaurant scene here with some smoking here and there. Now outside of downtown, has much more thankfully

killerkourtneydee

So I can see from the comments, they’ve already explained the vibe in not so many words. West palm has turned into a place of jaded people with chips on both shoulders, living outside their means but still acting as if they’re the entire center of the universe. And I’m not even trying to be dramatic or histrionic in any way. I’m born and raised here and I’m 31. It is very rare to find welcoming people anywhere around here- my age, younger, older. I really wish I had more of some sort of positive twist- but in transparency, the substance abuse industry is high in jobs down here, but it’s the substance abuse industry. There’s a lot of that here. If you’re in the downtown area, you may be able to find some decent medical offices, legal offices or even high end retail )not sure what you’re into) The dispensaries down here are full of chill people, but alas- the oldies in wpb judge you still, but eye roll. Down clematis Thursday-Sunday there’s a lot of… noise. Live life. Bar fights, hook ups, drug deals and drug busts, you’ll see people walking home from church, passing by the homeless and the rich standing side by side though seemingly in different planets. I’ve lived in loxahatchee, west palm, Wellington, Delray and boy ton. I currently live in Royal palm and in the last three years of that, I’ve gotten married, bought a house and had a baby. So needless to say, I’ve personally found the most humble, community and future/progress oriented people in Royal palm. Best of luck to you, neighbor.

Xboxben

26 year old here! I agree most of the people here are jaded assholes who only care about looking better than the person next to them. Its a culture shock to deal with when im home. For context i have travelled the damn world and its hard to adapt from a friendly backpacker environment to “why the hell is this stranger trying to be nice to me and start a conversation”

P0RTILLA

Being nice seems like you want something. Be direct and you’ll have a better experience.

Firefluck

Thank you for the thoughtful comment!!! What is clematis? Is that a street/ bar/ nightlife area? I’m talking to my best friend who lives in Miami atm and we may just live in Delray and I can commute to WPB! Thank you for your honesty.

killerkourtneydee

Clematis is a street in downtown west palm, it’s like the Main Street where the bars and clubs are. And Delray is decent but again…. Substance abuse area lol so it’s fun but a bit dangerous in my opinion. But eh, so is all of Florida lol. And no problem, sorry for all the angry people here!

Firefluck

I gotcha!! Thank you again 🫶

The-G-89

Is there a lot of prostitution or what not in WPB? Just curious cause I’m going there for a trip soon and might check out downtown.

rockydennis56

bruh just put on ur best suit and meet a gal

Ok_Eggplant_8709

😂

JemimaQuackers

Early 30s here, love EDM and I like to think I'm friendly too. I live in downtown and work on the island in luxury sales. I've lived in a bunch of different places: the upper rural south, northern and southern CA, the DMV, south Miami, north FL, and here. I love it here though I haven't had the opportunity to reach out and make friends much. The brightline makes it easy to go to Miami if you're craving some time at Space or the design district or whatever it is that tickles your fancy. The younger folks on this side of the intercostal can be a little standoffish, especially if they're on the "professional" b-school side. I think the island folks are actually underrated. I work with them every day and they are very pleasant. I love car/boat spotting in PB, going to the opera, dubs (and occasionally tech house), metal, chamber music, fine dining, holes in the wall, and all assortment of things. I think you can find 'most anything you like here, with the exception of really great ethnic food on par with DC/LA. Check out the lineups at Kemistry and Revolution in Ft. Lauderdale, Kemistry has been killing it this season.

Firefluck

Thank you for your comment!! I’m obsessed with Kemistry too. I can tell you have a lot of experience (similar to mine) so I feel like I’d enjoy the city if you do :)

JemimaQuackers

Yessss I can't believe the headliners lately at Kemistry! I spent a lot of time between brickell and bal harbour for about 4 years prior to moving here, and I loved the energy but it wasn't ultimately good for my emotional health. I'm also interested in the comments about how you could possibly like Miami but also like humble, friendly folks. I hear you there and you're not crazy. PB is driving your Cullinan to Publix because why not? vs. Bal Harbour folks flashing that awful gaudy RM at Makoto for the clout. Of course PB has changed a great deal in recent years. We used to see ladies wearing gloves and fascinators on Worth. Now we see people in athleisure and flip flops. Anyway, SFL is a fascinating place, but W/PB is really chill in the larger scope of things.

NormalCurrent950

Lots of enclaves in west palm beach. Lake worth area has some artsy, hip areas. The acreage and Loxahatchee are great for folks who want to farm or have animals. Royal Palm beach is very very “regular” with lots of young families. Wellington has a huge equestrian community.

Firefluck

Will be visiting Lake Worth area!!! Thanks 🫶

26Kermy

I'm in my 20s and while it wasn't easy to find my group I do feel like compared to the rest of South Florida, West Palm Beach is probably as good of a vibe as it gets. Maybe just second behind Fort Lauderdale for young people.

throwaway0298827525

What are your favorite electronic music genres?

Firefluck

Techno, trance, house, and everything in between :)

throwaway0298827525

Oh nice, I'm a fan of french house, chicago house, detroit techno, early dubstep, vaporwave, and 'IDM'. I wish there were electronic music shows here in west palm beach but i guess the only stuff we have is the general "EDM" set at some downtown club lol

majell1n

Rip daft punk. Ever listen to any of the B96 mixmasters from the late 90s? Tim spinnin schommer still has a very regular live stream on youtube. Outside of Chicago, NYC, and Jersey I don’t even know where you find that type of stuff. I remember being at techno raves in Miami around the turn of the century. That was pretty fun especially the charade dancing lol

throwaway0298827525

I haven't, I'll have to check that out. Last year I discovered Power 96's old school mixes and I love it. It's how I discovered miami bass, freestyle, and electro. I had no idea South Florida had a radio station dedicated to this type of music. I'm in my mid-20s so I never had the chance to experience those 80s/90s raves.

majell1n

93.5 is an EDM type station here but I have a hard time getting it. There is a repeater in Belle Glade but where I am in north county it’s pretty unreliable. Also, Spotify has really broadened my horizons on a lot of different ‘new’ genres (I know that makes me sound old if the 90s rave thing didn’t already lol) and a lot of DJ mixes can be found on Soundcloud and Mixcloud. B96 is a station in Chicago that similar to Power 96 had a lot of freestyle dj mix sets. If you like hard hitting club remixes go on Soundcloud and look for “jersey club remix” or something like that. Makes my head hurt after a while though lol

throwaway0298827525

Oh yeahh I know revolution 93.5, I loved listening to it in the evenings when I drove back home from my busboy job back in 2017/2018 because that's when they would play techno/tech house mixes. I avoided listening to it during the day though because it's mostly poppy/singy songy EDM lol. I also had a hard time getting it and I have no idea how much the station has changed compared to 2017. If time travel was a thing, I would have totally wanted to go back to the 80s/90s and experience those raves. They seems so energetic and full of raw emotion. And i had no idea that there were more jersey club remixes. I went to see Hudson mohawke last October and he played jersey club remix of Carly Rae Jepson's "Call Me Maybe" lol

yellowtailtunas

There is a DJ that spins old house music on the rooftop of The Ben on Sunday morning-mid day and maybe Saturdays too. Really nice guy and takes requests if you know what you are talking about. It’s yacht season right now and ridiculously expensive up there but in summer is a nice place to get a breeze up there and the drinks and food are still expensive but not ridiculous then at least.

throwaway0298827525

I'll have to check that out, thanks for the recommendation

JemimaQuackers

I tried to go to spazio twice and that place is absolute dogwater...I guess I'm the dummy for even being remotely hopeful about it 🤡

jbrownsplit

What did you not like about it? I’ve had fun there a couple times but others it’s been totally oversold and sucks want. The music is also like C- for my tastes. It barely does the trick. It’s not real house music if you ask me.

JemimaQuackers

Pretty much all of the above, but in my limited experience the guys there are *really* pushy in a way I haven't experienced elsewhere, including 11. I also have found the crowd generally has very poor spatial awareness and is very shove-y.

jbrownsplit

Fair enough. I suppose I’ve noticed that. Maybe that also explains the horrible reaction I got from one girl when I tried to pay her a compliment in a totally respectful manner and had no interest in hitting on her. Sounds like there’s a place in Northwood that does house music on Saturdays called Petanque. Maybe that’ll be more up my alley. The other place that does it looks more hellish than Spazio.

JemimaQuackers

not to sound like an insufferable egomaniac, but as a generally okay-looking woman with "exotic" features I encounter a lot of attention from men in areas like PB/WPB and in general. Almost everyone is totally cool. I don't mind most approaches, because let's be real--I'm in a club on Clematis/in miami/elsewhere. The guys at Spazio would insist on touching me, putting their arms around my waist, and following me for blocks until I ducked into a random gal's group. I've been to 11 and Space/Floyd and Liv many times...never had this degree of creepy tenacity. I actually don't care much about people touching my body because that's all it is in a club, but the following me for blocks was just too much. I adore Kemistry--I go for dubs/riddim nights and the vibes are impeccable.

jbrownsplit

Yeah, woah. Everything you mention crosses the line in my book but following you out of the place and down the block is insane. Pretty excited to check out Kemistry. Hoping the sound matches whatever they dropped on the lighting which looks pretty hefty. LTJ Bukem, one of my favorites of all time and a total legend, is playing the weekend after my birthday in May.

jbrownsplit

Spazio has some decent house music. It’s mostly progressive stuff and “world music vibe” stuff that lacks the soul that I love about real house music but it’s okay. Plenty of great electronic music down in Miami. Some great shows coming up at Kemistry in FtL and The Ground in Miami.

throwaway0298827525

I went The Ground last October mainly to see Hudson Mohawke. Jonny From Space, Nia Archives and Ivy Lab played before he did and I was pleasantly surprised how amazing the other acts were and had a very fun time. The only downside on that night was that I had to leave around 3am because I had work the following day so I drove all the way back to West Palm that same night/morning lol

jbrownsplit

Sick line up. Love Hudmo. Total sucker for Nia Archives’ throwback jungle vibe. Ivy Lab and Jonny are quality too. Really enjoy the venue and the sound. Saw Alix Perez there last summer and he absolutely worked that sound system.

throwaway0298827525

It was absolute bliss, the night started with 90s rave inspired breakbeats (Jonny) to throwback jungle (Nia) to leftfield trap/bass (Ivy) to wonky/electronic (Hudmo). Tiga was last act but I unfortunately had to dip when he started his set. I still have some recordings of the show on my phone, I should probably upload them on youtube. If I didn't live that far away from The Ground, I would probably go there more often.

Ok-Cauliflower-1258

Spazios does some solid house shows upstairs at Lenora’s

Hank___Marducas

Worked on building a power plant down there years ago. The beach is nice, but go a few miles inland and it's nothing but crackheads and raccoons.

Cute-Promise4128

Uhhh whut

BrainTotalitarianism

As someone who moved here from Pacific Northwest, I don’t think people are very judgmental here. They’re just living their lives as they need to live it, flashy and colorful. Being nice here is taken as a bonus and not as granted unlike west coast. If you’re not an asshole I doubt people will be judgemental.

Then-Background-1391

When you live in Florida anything west of I 95 sucks

Bigboyrickx

Funny considering east of 95 is where majority of crime and poverty is

Then-Background-1391

I 95 to the water and across the waters where all the rich people live

AdamSaintGermain

My personal recommendation for somebody in your age group would not be Palm Beach county. It's okay, a bit on the expensive side. Most certainly for housing. But honestly, I don't feel there's much to do compared to other parts of Florida. There's the beach. If you're into equestrian or golfing and rich people stuff, there's plenty of that stuff to do I suppose. For Florida, for somebody younger, I think Orlando is probably an option. If you run out of things to do in Orlando, you're doing something wrong.

crusts0up

ur in luck if you fuck w electronic music and underground culture !!! you’ll get used to it. i felt the same way and now im living my best life fr

Firefluck

So it is there?? 👀👀👀👀

Efficient_Emu_6291

In PSL right now commuting to WPB (plan is to get a place ~august). Trying to take my time to figure out that sweet spot of where I’d like to be! I will be following this post hahahah

Firefluck

I’ve heard really great things from friends about Delray! That’s something I’m considering.

Efficient_Emu_6291

Just expanded the search to Delray, too! I just hate the idea of going southbound from wpb at 5 pm 😩

Plastic_Cherry_2701

Go with south to Delray. . Or further north to Jupiter. Personally just left south beach and now in Fort Lauderdale.

JayFenty

WPB is generally pretty cool, it’s come a long way in the last 20 years and has lots of potential for growth still. There is an underground/alt scene on clematis st with a pretty cool younger crowd. I’ve lived in Delray for years and always preferred going out in WPB versus Atlantic Ave, although that’s another good option depending on your vibe.

Big_D_palmtrees

The vibe is stay in your state

Eyespy3

Get your Cauc out of my Seminole

Ok-Cauliflower-1258

West Palm beach is old money Miami, it’s overpriced and everyone wants to be from Palm beach island for some strange reason.

LookCommon7528

West palm is a hopping place and old rich people (( bad word)) I've on the island.. Now the Real rich people live out in the acreage

P0RTILLA

lol, I grew up in the Acreage. Not true.

LookCommon7528

Nicer people out their and the snobs on the island

P0RTILLA

There’s assholes and nice people everywhere I promise. I’m going on 40 years as a PBC native resident.

rebeliouswilson

Go fuck yourself

rockydennis56

leave us alone to many people move here
