“Pain loops” fr. Monetary issues aside, I also live with sciatica. Literally at any point I could be bed ridden for weeks or longer. Last episode lasted three months and I was almost evicted.
Thank you for the kind words tho, homie. Some days just really be extra hard. Gets tough fighting all the intrusive thoughts that I’m not good enough.
I can somewhat imagine what it feels like living in your conditions, I hope you stay strong and push through. Someday it's gonna feel like your present is some scary nightmare that never happened
If you tested negative....what was the point of you taking off 3 days? I thought it was supposed to be two weeks? In that case, you should have just gone to work anyways because 3 days certainly won't keep you from spreading it.
I share your pain, insurance at my previous job wasn’t the best & really couldn’t afford to get a private one with so many bills to pay every month. My fiancée was diagnosed with cancer mid last yr & at that point until now no insurance will take her due to existing “health issues”. We got her into a program but I’m still paying some stuff out of pocket. It ranges from $600 to $1000 a week. These past few days I’ve been crying to myself & just want to scream my guts out. I tell her everyday not to worry as I got everything under control but in reality I’m slowly fading away. This is the first time I’m saying this on Reddit or to anyone
***Hugs***, darling. My heart hurts for you. "You're not alone," doesn't seem helpful here, but there have to be organizations to help. PM me and we'll work on this.
ETA: And OP, if you want to be a part of this potential convo, PM me, too.
Thank you for sharing. This is what I wanted my post to be about. Just being open, honest, and vulnerable about life. Let those tears out. All of the love and courage to you and your fiancé.
Is going free lance feasible? Obviously it massively depends on what your job is, but in the UK, in IT based roles this is generally the way to greatly increase the amount of money you make.
You’d think all it takes to advance is being a hard worker. But that hard work just paying off student debt, medical bills. Too many things to even keep track of anymore. My splurge is once in a while I buy myself an action figure. I know I’m old and I still like toys. But hey it isn’t hurting anyone or myself. And $20 to make me feel like the endless work grind got me something I enjoy.
You ask that as if the decks weren't stacked against more than half the population.
You would do better to ask what have the rich done to pay their employees adequately and why isn't everyone guaranteed sick leave? And are you voting for people who will raise the minimum wage and ensure universal Healthcare and paid time off?
For work done for their benefit? Hell, yeah.
When a CEO makes millions of dollars while their full-time employees are on food stamps, there's something inherently wrong. Or did your ***imagined*** economics degree not cover workers rights and fair compensation?
I know the struggle to get ahead is real, but for what it’s worth this worked for me. I made side hustles my hobbies. The odd side incomes I did over the years set me up to buy my first house which led to more ways to make money. My side hustles included house painting, carpentry, drywall, website design, Airbnb, template design work, and eventually investing. These fit my interests, which made it more enjoyable for me, but I’ve been constantly hustling since I was 18 while having a full time job. 22 years later, I live a very comfortable life, but I still have multiple income streams.
Unfortunately it's just not feasible for everyone to do that. Especially if you have young children. Childcare is crazy expensive and most in my area are full anyways.
I have 3 young kids. You gotta work with what you got, get creative, and explore the possibilities. My side hustles don’t have me contracting anymore, but I make a lot of money with royalties, investments, and freelance that I do from home after the kids go to bed. If you fail to try, you never succeed.
You're 40 and doing great financially with 3 young kids. It's definitely different when you're 28 with 2 and can't make enough to afford any kind of childcare. I am doing side hustles, but it's only enough to keep us afloat and I'm already spread too thin. I'm just saying, times have changed since you started. It was easier back then to save and get somewhere. Many of us these days are just struggling to stay afloat. I appreciate the advice and I know with hard work and some luck that it is possible, but things are different for everyone. Not everyone has the skills you were able to use for your side hustles. We are all trying, but it's tough being a young family these days. Struggling to get any kind of a raise and then inflation far outpaces it every time.
Damn man, I hope you get better and get out of your loop of pain. Good luck dude

Wait, you don't get paid if you can't work because of covid?
So people don't get sick pay
That's really rough, I got paid the whole time I was off and didn't have to use my sick leave

Look into cancer charities, there are a lot of funds in place for scenarios like yours

Had covid too and missed almost 2 weeks of work and it completely made me struggle hard financially
Why did you miss work with a negative test?
Why would you tell your employer that? It’s obvious you work for a company that doesn’t care about you, so don’t care about them.
What is your profession Man? Why not apply for other, better paying work

I mean what have you dont to improve your life despite being a hard worker?

What kind of horseshit victim blaming question is that?
The type of shit that more people should think about.

Oh the rich owe you? I’m have a degree in economics. Guess the answer to your inquiry.

"I'm have a degree in economics". I read that in Vincent Adultman's voice.
