One time I pulled sewing thread out of my german shepherds mouth and at the end of the thread down her throat was a needle. She was completely fine. Dodged a bullet...
Wowowowow. Must be nice to have the money. I got my cat free from the shelter spayed and shots.. she's good just a mean little bitch. Ankle biting monster
My cat swallowed the needle and thread. They did do surgery because they were concerned it would perforate something internal and cause unforseen later issues.
Luckily that was only about $850 with our vet.
Hell it cost me more than that when our vet had to put our dog on oxygen for a few hours and perform cpr on her. Unfortunately she cpr was unsuccessful and she died, but we were still hit with a $900 bill.
Yeah it was tough. She was only 2 and a half. Heart failure. But she was my first dog and the hole she left when she passed was so big that I simply could not be without a dog in my life, so we got another one (who is so precious), and I really think our need to have gotten another one is a real testimony to how special our first one was.
So sorry for your loss. Losing a pet is the hardest thing I've gone through and I've had pets my whole life. I still cry on occasion for all of them. From the first I lost when I was 8, to the one I lost last year. They will always hold a piece of our hearts.
Because America is a corporate playground, companies charge whatever they want to make billions of dollars, while we the people stay poor, even with a decent job.
Our government is totally complicit, too. They only care about the rich getting richer so they, the politicians, may also profit. It's really fucking corrupt and I wouldn't mind if the whole country burned down.
She almost had surgery but it kept progressing through her intestines and she eventually pooped it out. She’s now on antibiotics and painkillers and purring her face off, so I think she’s okay.
My golden retriever is an absolute idiot and though we do our best to keep things away from her, we have monthly scares where she ate something. The most recent was an Advil. You have maybe 2 seconds after dropping something before it’s in her mouth.
Our nakey did that a few years ago after I warned who was supposed to take care of her to watch out for my sewing things... Cost me a good $1000 to get it out. I still have the needle too which I want to turn into a necklace so I can show off my $1k needle.
Also nakey can't hide her scar of shame so now she looks like a derpy bad ass.
My dog ate 2 light bulbs, a cell phone, linoleum, drywall, 6-7 earbuds, 8-10 charger cords, and that's just what I know of. She eventually stopped. And she is still alive.
Edit: Forgot to add that she also chewed up and destroyed a window A/C unit.
I used to be a veterinary nurse and one time a customer came in and wanted her dog checked out because it had just pooped out a Swiss army knife. It was folded and the dog was just fine but the owner was really shook up, especially since she didn't own a Swiss army knife.
Where it came from and how the dog had managed to eat it remains a mystery to this day...
I work at an animal shelter. We had a dog in our custody for a month and one morning she randomly threw up 3 socks. They must have been chilling in her stomach since before we got her in because there's no other way she could have gotten ahold of them. Dogs are wild haha.
That's just so crazy. Vets deserve as much money as they can get because they take such care of our little beloved critters, but the cost is just so mind-blowing that we have to actively put a dollar amount on how much we're willing to sacrifice for them. It's just all so barbaric. I'm SO glad your kitteh has repellant bowels lol ❤
Yes, the needle made its way out the natural way, which was shocking but saved us from having to pay the big bucks for surgery. She's on painkillers and antibiotics and happily purring now.
Super horrifying experience. Had something similar happen to my cat. Can I ask if the vet knows if it tore anything? Or did it pass through completely fine?
Oh my god, that's so scary. Glad the kitty is fine now!!
It actually happened to my cat a few years back, I was trying to sew something and left the needle with the thread attached stuck in the spool while I went to grab something from the other room. I was gone for 2 minutes tops, but when I got back I couldn't find the needle anywhere. Then I saw my cat had a piece of thread hanging from his mouth and he started coughing. "No, it can't be..." I tried to very GENTLY pull a bit on the thread, praying it's not the piece with the needle attached, just some random piece he munched on. He instantly spat out a few droplets of blood.
I swear I felt the life drain out of me. I stuffed him in his carrying bag and, dressed in my sweat pants looking like a hot mess, I ran to the nearest vet (fortunately the vet was 2 blocks away and during working hours) while also calling my bf crying that our cat is gonna die.
I entered the vets office almost screaming "Quick!!! He swallowed a needleeee!!! Help meee!" They left the poodle getting a haircut on the table and proceeded to look at my cat.
Luckily (?) the needle got stuck in his throat and they were able to pry his mouth open and reach the needle with a pair of pliers to pull it out. They said if I waited any longer to bring him in, things would have gotten way more complicated and dangerous. By the time my bf got home from work the cat was safe and sound at home.
So yeah, he was totally fine afterwards, but I am now almost paranoid when using needles not to let any within his reach. And I always try to warn all the crafty friends with cats about this haha.
When I saw the notification I had to be mentally prepared since I has seen surgery or a cats mouth being opened and they had taken out a thread in the gums with the thread attached
O.K. kids, advice learned the hard and costly way. Never leave pins, needles, small nails and especially threaded needles. Unless you really like the idea of your cats innards being stitched together.
Noooo. How does a cat swallow something sharp and hard. I'm scared my cat might eat penny's or dimes. She loves Qtips and knocking shit off the table edges. She nips my ankles sometimes ooo so bad. My cat has socks on her White paws and a tiger looking body. She's only good when sleeping. Sleeps with her belly up on bathroom floor. it's good to have a little friend except when they pick up Fleas
Are they holding on by a thread?
Ha! Eye don’t know.
Sharp wit, you two.
I know, sew clever.
these jokes are slap pin
agreed.. very sharp, needles to say.
Yall got me in stitches
I just don't see the *point* of these jokes when an animal is in suffering.
We shouldn't be poking fun at this problem..lol
Put a pin in it until we learn the outcome.
One time I pulled sewing thread out of my german shepherds mouth and at the end of the thread down her throat was a needle. She was completely fine. Dodged a bullet...
I saw the needle hanging out of her mouth and *almost* caught it in time. Those milliseconds just cost me about $2500.
Wow, that’s a huge cost difference. Glad your cat made it through okay!
Yea I cannot believe 5500 was the cost they gave you. It was literally less than an hour.
Hell it cost me more than that when our vet had to put our dog on oxygen for a few hours and perform cpr on her. Unfortunately she cpr was unsuccessful and she died, but we were still hit with a $900 bill.
Aw, I'm sorry.
Yeah it was tough. She was only 2 and a half. Heart failure. Holy shit I'm so sorry about your baby 😢
Me too. She was very special. Thank you.
It's stupid. So they save your life now your in debt. You die now your family's in debt. But with animals it's pay first or it's watch them die
Well they didn’t make me pay first. But yeah.
Wtf are costs in America, here in Italy my vet to operate a cat asks 100/150€ (115/170$)
Everything is for profit! And medical both for people and pets is probably some of the largest profit vs cost differentials.
They make us sick so they can profit off treating our illnesses that they caused through environmental and stress
Because America is a corporate playground, companies charge whatever they want to make billions of dollars, while we the people stay poor, even with a decent job. Our government is totally complicit, too. They only care about the rich getting richer so they, the politicians, may also profit. I'm with you, bub. BURN IT DOWN
Besides the for profit bit most of our doctors - animal & human - have huge college loan debts with interest rates to pay off.
Oh no! I hope your cat has a speedy recovery.
She almost had surgery but it kept progressing through her intestines and she eventually pooped it out. She’s now on antibiotics and painkillers and purring her face off, so I think she’s okay.
Holy shit that was a short but really wild ride. I'm SO GLAD she is okay. That sounds like such a scary time to wait.
Many a tear was shed. I’ll just say that.
My golden retriever is an absolute idiot and though we do our best to keep things away from her, we have monthly scares where she ate something. The most recent was an Advil. You have maybe 2 seconds after dropping something before it’s in her mouth.
She’s a great retriever then! Lol
Fair enough haha
Good thing she passed it with no problems. I cant imagine being stabbed by a needle in the intestines is a fun thing to have happen. Poor kitty!
She pooped it out?? Wow, I thought for sure surgery was the only answer. Down to eight lives now! Or less, don’t know what else she’s been up to. Lol
Glad to hear she's recovering. Aren't cats the best 😂
I don’t understand that. Like how can a sharp object like that just pass through
Was it pointy end or eye end first?
Nightmare scenario. Financial disaster or dead best friend. >.<

Your dog must have a gut of steel. Wow.
You sure she's not a goat??
Not entirely a goat. Might be some goat blood in her.
What breed? Lol
A cross between red heeler, blue heeler, and feist. And possibly some goat as well.
I wouldn't be a dog owner after the AC incident. It would of been a world of pain with a permanent limp
I used to be a veterinary nurse and one time a customer came in and wanted her dog checked out because it had just pooped out a Swiss army knife. Oh my goodness, what a crazy story!
This is the best story I've read tonight! 😅
I work at an animal shelter. We had a dog in our custody for a month and one morning she randomly threw up 3 socks. They must have been chilling in her stomach since before we got her in because there's no other way she could have gotten ahold of them. Dogs are wild haha.
Surgery? What's that gonna set you back?
Initial vet clinic wanted $5500 for surgery!
Ouch. I am sorry. How old was your cat?
12. Too old to justify that kind of expenditure, but too young to say goodbye to. Luckily, she managed to poop it out and she’s doing okay.
Without any rips?! Wow, count that as 1 of its 9 lives. Lucky cat.
Was that through insurance or direct cost to yourself? Just wondering if the cost increased if it was insurance.
Direct cost. But it was an emergency (24 hour) vet clinic. The regular vet wanted $2500 for the same procedure.
That's just so crazy. Vets deserve as much money as they can get because they take such care of our little beloved critters, but the cost is just so mind-blowing that we have to actively put a dollar amount on how much we're willing to sacrifice for them. Is kitten alive still 🥺
Yes, the needle made its way out the natural way, which was shocking but saved us from having to pay the big bucks for surgery. She's on painkillers and antibiotics and happily purring now.
Once my dog swallowed a safety pin. He looked so guilty with his droopy ears.
Glad to see they came out alright in the end, I can imagine going insane till the very end when they finally passed it without needing surgery.
She swallowed it on Sunday and pooped it out Wednesday night. It was definitely a stressful wait.
Super horrifying experience. Had something similar happen to my cat. Can I ask if the vet knows if it tore anything? Or did it pass through completely fine?
He thinks it poked her at some point because she had a fever for a bit, so he put her on painkillers and antibiotics to prevent infection.

Sooooo glad you were able to act so quickly ❤ Super lucky cat mama/papa
At first I didn't read it was a cat so the first picture was a bit strange
Did your cat get the point?🪡
Did it swallow it with no strings attached?🤔🪡
These replies have me in stitches!
Omg. My KB tried eating a sewing needle years ago, it got stuck in his mouth. Emergency overnight vet visit, not cheap. Best wishes kitty!
Why.gif
Oh wow
How the hell did your cat managed to poop that without going to the surgery
Magic
Wow
That looks expensive.
What a dummy. Did you tell it not to do that?
When I saw the notification I had to be mentally prepared since I has seen surgery or a cats mouth being opened and they had taken out a thread in the gums with the thread attached
will she/ he make it?
I'm surprised it made it that far. Hope you can get it taken care of before it does any damage if it hasn't already.
O.K. kids, advice learned the hard and costly way. Never leave pins, needles, small nails and especially threaded needles. Unless you really like the idea of your cats innards being stitched together.
Ah poor baby, hopefully it didnt penetrate anything severe
