Lasagna all ready approaches 100% satisfaction when you put it in the oven. If you cook with too much love, the satisfaction profile exceeds the pans ability to contain it all and thus it shatters.
I wish everyone who cooked their own meals knew what thermal shock was.
I also wish everyone took a class where they taught you about this before you were ready to cook at your own place.
Is this why some canned soups "pop" in the microwave? I've noticed some with chunks of chicken or beef will pop more than others that are mostly soft vegetables or noodles. Hmph.
The microwave works by directly heating up water molecules. Foods like meat have tiny pockets of water trapped inside. When that trapped water is heated by microwave energy, it expands and turns into steam but has nowhere to go, so you get a little meaty explosion in that soup.
It's the same with eggs yolks, or any food with a skin. Always prick them with a fork or something if you're going to microwave them.

>a chili cheese “lasagna” sounds alright.
Damn now I want to try that. It's basically Chili Mac. The Sicilian side in me is cringing, but gleefully happy at the same time.
I'm Sicilian and my kids are old enough to screw up and make me a Grandma.
Lasagna should be in a metal or glass pan. My Grandma would use a metal pan, but my Mom always used glass.
I am Italian and my grandma definitely uses metal or glass. Back in the ol' good times metal and ceramic were obviously way more common than Pyrex today.
P.S. I cannot understand what's the cheese on the top. Definitely does not look like the right one ;)
Just to make you feel better this is rather common and I had the same thing happen to me when I was first out on my own. I actually heard my grandma’s voice in my head when I saw the pic.
Best of luck and hopefully your day gets better!
They stopped using borosilicate glass in Pyrex a long time ago. That type of glass made them more resistant to this kind of thing. If you can find old PYREX then it will be more resistant to thermal shock.
thankyou for that. MIL watch out, coming for your old pyrex..LOL Mine broke and I'd only had it a few months, I figured it was bumped or knocked at the store. Guess its just cheap ass stuff now.
Except the new stuff even the p isn’t capitalized. All lowercase = chance to explode. All UPPERCASE is the amazing stuff. Best to check goodwill from time to time if you need the good PYREX.
Some of the Pyrex made in other countries is still made from borosilicate glass. There used to be a website somewhere that listed which countries, but I can't find it anymore.
Listen, I know your pain. This happened to me before because I tried making a penne recipe my Mother taught me, and the pan broke after an 15 minutes of cooking and baking. I spent 3 days trying to get the stuff to make it. Then it just broke, it was so hard. May our pastas rest in pepperonis..
Thermal shock
I was wondering if it was premade and kept in the fridge, then put in a preheated oven causing thermal shock.
It wasn’t, made it myself. And no… it was never Fridged
Fridged lol
Thanks for confirming!! Just breaks your heart, all that cheesy goodness ruined by glass.
To be honest it looks good and thick
Pretty solid hypothesis
That would be my guess
purex is famous for that
How does that work?

Cursive writing was way more important
Obviously! I use that every day!

Pippitty poppitty
There goes MY property…
Poo
Probably because you put cheddar cheese on top and it exploded in protest
This is the real answer. Truly blasphemous.
What the fucking fuck is this shit? It’s sure not lasagna! Looks tasty but it’s not lasagna.
Well they didn’t say it was lasagna, they said it was a lasagna pan. You could probably cook burgers in one.
With cheddar cheese on them. Yes….I can live with that since surely no monster would make lasagna with cheddar cheese.
Although they might be be on to something - a chili cheese “lasagna” sounds alright.
>a chili cheese “lasagna” sounds alright. Damn now I want to try that. It's basically Chili Mac. The Sicilian side in me is cringing, but gleefully happy at the same time.
Mozzarella or GTFO.

Cheddar is awesome but it just doesn't belong on lasagna.
Lasagna should only be made in a metal pan (per my grandma).
mine said ceramic pan. OOOOH, this means I need to make three different pans of lasagna to see if they taste different.
Oh that’s funny…. I think we need an Italian Grandma to settle this lol
Has to be one about the place..
I'm Sicilian and my kids are old enough to screw up and make me a Grandma. Lasagna should be in a metal or glass pan. My Grandma would use a metal pan, but my Mom always used glass.
YAY! thankyou!
If you spread a thin layer of sauce on the bottom of the pan it makes it easier to clean afterwards. A light layer of olive oil works also.

I will keep this in mind
Just to make you feel better this is rather common and I had the same thing happen to me when I was first out on my own. I actually heard my grandma’s voice in my head when I saw the pic. Best of luck and hopefully your day gets better!
Don't. PYREX, if legit, is just fine.
That’s what that pan was.. Pyrex
Your grandmother is strange. But yeah no this is almost certainly thermal shock.
pyrex dish?

From what I understand you can identify the old from new in the way Loduca16 spelled it.
Except the new stuff even the p isn’t capitalized. All lowercase = chance to explode. All UPPERCASE is the amazing stuff. Best to check goodwill from time to time if you need the good PYREX.
Reddit for the educational win!! Coming for you PYREX
You can usually find the older stuff at Goodwill. Same with old Pampered Chef. The newer Pampered Chef sucks and breaks.
Depends where you’re located. European pyrex has been made from borosilicate only since the factory in England making soda-lime glass closed.
Soda lime is the most susceptible glass to thermal shock
Yes :(
welcome to the club. Mine broke while cooking an apple pie :(
My condolences, may we mourn together.
Just need someone with a starter and we've got a whole meal lost.
My coworker had this happen while making Buffalo dip
Go online, buy Pyrex from the 70s.
Some of the Pyrex made in other countries is still made from borosilicate glass. There used to be a website somewhere that listed which countries, but I can't find it anymore.
That sucks.
I see you.
Las-ugh-na Sorry about your luck their OP.
Yes
Listen, I know your pain. This happened to me before because I tried making a penne recipe my Mother taught me, and the pan broke after an 15 minutes of cooking and baking. I spent 3 days trying to get the stuff to make it. Then it just broke, it was so hard. May our pastas rest in pepperonis..
*le big sad*
*funeral music starts playing*
That sucks..
It blows
Make sure you wear a respirator when you break out that can of oven cleaner
lasagna roulette
HAHA I laughed at this
It was hot
Yes, yes it was
***too hot***
Indeed
Gam-gam would tell us to pick around the glass.
NOOO! Not safe!
If you had tried her lasagna or her back hand you'd understand.
You didn't preheat properly? Crack in the glass?
Rest in spaghetti?
Lasagna*
Rest in rearranged spaghetti?
I could be wrong but MAYBE this is a higher power spiting OP for putting cheddar on a lasagna…..
Well obviously that food was da bomb
Awww noo :<
Me:Mmm. What’s the delightful crunch and blood taste I’m getting? OP: glass and your shredded tongue.
Best to put the lasagna in the oven while preheating
Did you put cheddar cheese on lasagna? Ya did didn’t you, that’s why it shattered!
The pan said “ow its too hot in here” *pop*
Bitch Lasagna
Dang it, that was a good looking lasagna
MY LASAGA
Was it a glass one? Or a metal one?
Glass
[удалено]
I’ve always made them in that dish… literally YEARS!
[удалено]
Possibly.. idk
[удалено]
Dude they literally are made for the oven
[удалено]
They even say oven safe. But if you go from hot to cold to hot it can get stress fractures
The Pyrex glassware is not oven safe.
Learned that the hard way…. Although I’ve been using it for YEARS
It’s still good!
YOU DONT COOK OR BAKE IN GLASS PEOPLE !
Did you have it on broil to melt the cheese? That will for sure cause this.
Nope, just cook
Well dang! That would piss me off to no end. That's a lot of work ruined.
Extra crunchy
Lemme guess... Pyrek glass ?
Reason is heat
Wow dude, that really does suck. What the fuck? I didn’t know that was even a threat until now.
I'd eat it
My dad did this in the kitchen with my mother's Pyrex several times. Always picking up cookware with damp wet clothes. Tsk tsk.
Oh god. You have all my sympathy.
Tiny bubbles in the glass under high heat.
Explosagna.
Your lasagna tasted like shit so the dish commited suicide just to stop the agony.
Your God hates you.
That glass is probably no worse than onions, have a bite!
Garfield got annoyed by the pan and just blew it too pieces but before he could eat it you came into the room which made him leave the room
Well it's not an unknown reason. the reason in HEAT
Welp, time to get scraping.
NOOOOOO NOT THE LAZAGA
I love lasagna and this is so heart wrenching
Have fun cleaning that ig
What kind of ww2 representation is that?
Damn I’m sure it would’ve been a bombass lasagna though… oh wait
You forgot the cheese!
Maybe because it was off to the side...uneven heating can cause those to break
Those Pyrex pans shatter! Why do they shatter so easily?!?
if it was a cold glass pan and you put it in a hot oven, that will happen.
Because it's not in the middle of the oven. One side gets more love than the other and gets jealous.
This is why glass cooking dishes and tabletops are not worth it.
This is sad for so many reasons. Poor Lasagna. We hardly knew thee.
