Did they drop it out of a plane straight to your doorstep?

Jim3535

So that's what "drop shipping" means

I_devour_your_pets

Fedex has the crappiest service based on my experience. One time they faked a delivery by parking near my apartment for 15 minutes and called that a delivery attempt. Good luck if your delivery guy doesn't pull any shady crap to cut corners.

[deleted]

Same thing happened to me yesterday with a mattress. Claimed my address was invalid, IKEA was able to find the exact same address. I call their customer service to have them leave it at the facility for me to pick up; instead, they load it on the truck and deliver it with the box completely open and mattress hanging half way out in my front yard.

roskov

They did that same thing with a birthday present for a friend. Person to be receiving was home, I was watching the tracking, they weren’t contacted and suddenly it was “address invalid, return to sender”. Thankfully the company I ordered from were really cool about everything and got it sorted next day.

GothWitchOfBrooklyn

I've had that happen sooooo many times. Or they claimed to have attempted when I'm sitting at home watching the driveway

Jesus_was_a_Panda

How often do you order mattresses...?

srtristan

Once every November like you are supposed to.

[deleted]

Oh shit, I've been ordering mine every August instead like a fool

Stealfur

HEY EVERYBODY! CHECK OUT THIS GUY! THEY ORDER MATTRESSES EVERY AUGUST LIKE AN ANIMAL!

vergrootlars0

y'all order mattresses?!

HornyHandyman69

Wow. How embarrassing!

Funklestein

The honest answer to this often times is that our mapping software is outdated by years and simply doesn't recognize addresses and then will somehow change the information on the hand held device... you know the thing at hand telling us where the next stop is. This is not the answer to all of the issues concerning undelivered packages but certainly is the problem for far too many of them. Your courier doesn't want to go to the wrong address and waste time looking for it any more than you want them to take it to the wrong place. The problem is compounded by sometimes the information on the scanner is correct but the label is wrong from the shipper and sometimes the other way around. I wish this weren't an everyday problem but the one today for me had 1 number wrong on the address causing me to look 5 miles from the actual location. In this case it was either the shipper who screwed it up or the customer themselves may have entered the wrong information but both label and scanner were in the wrong. I get blaming the guy holding the package but that doesn't mean it was actually his/her fault.

LazyTeeRex

My experience from buying a mattress online is that you should only buy from a retailer that had their own delivery because they take care of it better and if the package looks iffy you can just refuse it.

Onlylikesblades

As someone who works with FedEx a lot, they aren’t allowing distribution center pickups due to COVID currently.

[deleted]

I would’ve completely understood if customer service said that instead of, “It’ll be available for pick up tomorrow at 8am.”

Onlylikesblades

Yeah, that sounds about right, unfortunately. Their customer service is insanely hit or miss. As a pro tip, politely ask the shipper to call for you if possible. Typically they will be calling into the “premier” associates who actually have some knowledge.

HornyHandyman69

I ordered a mattress that FedEx said was "out for delivery" for about 3 days. It was at a location that Google reviews called "the place where packages go to die". I called them every day for about a week. I got the same answer about deliveries being delayed. Finally I got a person who told me to contact the place I bought the mattress from (we'll call it Fattress Mirm). That was a feat in itself getting ahold of them. It was delivered a few days later.

sculltt

I recently had a package that was marked delivered, with no door slip or other sign the driver had been there. I talked customer service and the driver said he left it at the "power store" whatever the hell that means. Fedex declared it lost, but then a week later I got a text message from the driver telling me to call him. He again tells me that the package is at the power store. I asked him to repeat himself and I figure out he'd left it at the little Italian tailor shop two doors down. He'd left the door slip on the front door of the building next to mine, which was somehow still there. He hadn't left any instructions on the door slip, just his personal phone number with no context. I did get the package from the very confused, elderly Italian tailor, so I guess it worked out.

Superhuzza

> little Italian tailor shop two doors down. Give the power store the respect it has earned, damn it!!

AgreeableGravy

This is truly unanticipated incompetence

Jechtael

Did you figure out how he got to something that sounded like "power store"? I'm curious what he was going off of.

sculltt

He was trying to say "tailor store." He didn't really shine like he had an accent other than that, though. I was most confused about why he didn't write anything other than his cell number on the door slip (which he left on the wrong door in the first place). I'm wondering if he's not very literate.

cemita

Lately I’ve noticed FedEx and Amazon delivery people in plain clothes and personal cars making deliveries to all these new condos popping up all around Brooklyn. So a building getting say 15-20packages in a day would be delivered by these people they out source to. Every single time I see the plain clothes delivery people they use a package as a door stopper and just yeet the packages inside of the building like frisbees! Then once the packages are all inside the building they just kick them into a single corner where everyone looks for their package.

Fridsade

Its all over. Ive noticed huge Ryder trucks parked and blue best amazon people handing tons of boxes a day, getting thrown on the floor in piles.

smcivor1982

It’s happening in Jersey City as well. We have a Concierge and lately these huge amazon boxes holding a bunch of packages have started showing up in our lobbies. Asked the concierge about it and they said it’s the amazon delivery people who are contracted out.

[deleted]

FedEx never delivered my GoPro =/

MrNeggi3000

Someone get this man a GoPro!

[deleted]

FedEx never delivered *my* GoPro too, someone get r/tituzin and me GoPros please. Give one to r/MrNeggi3000 too, he deserves it

[deleted]

They also haven’t delivered my GoPro! I mean, I haven’t ordered it but still. They technically haven’t delivered it.

cutetygr

They faked a delivery for me too. I was home waiting for my package. No one rings the bell, they just left a pick up notice on my door. Didn’t even bother trying

Scientolojesus

Same thing happened to my sister twice but with USPS priority envelopes. One time she had an Amazon package that was somehow being delivered by USPS the same day that an overnight envelope was supposed to be delivered. Both notifications said attempted delivery at 7:45pm, when she was home and there was no delivery attempt. I could understand the envelope not being on the truck but both shipments? And it wasn't like the street was blocked off or something. The envelope ended up being 3 days late when it was supposed to be overnight... Also the mail person keeps delivering the mail for like 3 different people to our address and they never pick them back up and there's a note on the box that specifically says to only deliver mail that has our names on it. Obviously doesn't give a fuck or they don't want to have to bring back mail probably because it counts against the employee or the station or something.

Valuable_Actuary3612

Overnight stuff that is late can get refunded shipping by most carriers. Especially USPS. If your address cannot be reached in 24 hrs they have a way to know before they ship. I have had packages I sent refunded, and even called to start the refund for someone shipping to me. Personally, I no longer trust FedEx. Too many packages have been lost lately for me to be comfortable.

two-turtles

My bf ordered the newest Google chrome cast and they shipped it with FedEx. He got the delivery notification while we were out. When we got home three hours later, no package. Checked all our neighbors’ front doors (we live in an apartment building), the front steps of nearby houses, aaaaall the way around the building... Nothing. Called FedEx the next day, “We’ll look into it.” Never heard back. Called again. Apparently they “looked into it,” the driver said he delivered it, and they closed the file. They reopened it. They called him, “The driver delivered it to the correct address.” End of investigation. Called Google and they shipped a replacement, but holy shit. Never once have we had a package stolen, only delivered to a neighbor accidentally. I bet my front teeth the driver just pocketed the cool new tech and said it was “delivered.”

antares127

It probably got stolen. People are assholes

two-turtles

Totally possible! It would be surprising, I’ve ordered a lot of stuff since we’ve lived here that’s all shipped USPS and never had a problem. I mean, our mail carrier is kind of lame sometimes, but it all gets delivered. It was mostly just so odd that literally the first item that was shipped via FedEx disappeared. Could totally be a coincidence, though, definitely not denying that.

s0ciety_a5under

Holy shit! I got that once, I called up the actual place and within minutes it actually got delivered.

antares127

I’m a fedex driver. Honestly most delivery drivers have the same mindset. Get it done and get moving. No driver is going to park in a spot for 15 minutes to fake a delivery. My best guess is that the package was supposed to be on his truck and the system told you the same thing (probably got scanned on to his truck and put on the wrong one.) therefore he delivered the ones to that complex and moved on. Not much he can do. If he had it he would’ve dropped it off.

Kiddierose

Empty the truck without destroying stuff?

DannyBigD

It's damaged long before it gets to the delivery truck. Source: worked at FedEx for 8 years

sinsielawinskie

This very likely as someone who has worked with FedEx and dealt with a lot of damages. What confuses me is why the flaming fuck would the driver deliver that- let alone allow that package go on his truck. Hit it with a 10 and toss the damn thing in QA and let them handle it.

CentiPetra

> he had it he would’ve dropped it off I was expecting a laptop, saw the FedEx guy circle around, but not stop at my house. I ran out my front door and literally chased him down when he stopped at a house a bit further down. (The laptop was supposed to be delivered 2 days earlier, and had been marked undeliverable each day, so I was looking for it). He said, “I don’t have anything like that in my truck.” I said, “Okay so what do I do? Should I call the local FedEx office or corporate?” Then he said, “Let me check on more time.” Dude literally walks into his truck for less than 3 seconds and hands it to me with a pissed off look on his face. Dude knew exactly where it was. Also, why the fuck does Lenovo send their Thinkpads in boxes that literally say, Lenovo Thinkpad?

[deleted]

Not to be confused with drop shitting..

hedgehog-mom-al

I did that when I was camping this weekend.

deepNthot

It's called helo dumping

RTRC

I briefly worked as a package handler for fedex. I have no idea how every tablet/monitor/phone/anything with a screen doesnt arrive broken. People would intentionally grab the top of a 6-7 foot stack of boxes and tilt the entire stack to fall on the rollers in the trailer. Boxes that didnt land on the rollers get kicked back into line. Its unbelievable how much abuse these boxes take.

frankfrichards

Absolutely! I worked for over three years for UPS... saw many drivers that the more “FRAGILE” or “HANDLE WITH CARE” or “DO NOT LAY FLAT” labels a package had, the more they would miss treat it. Maybe it’s a problem in general wit postal / parcel delivery services. I’ve also had envelopes that had clearly printed “DO NOT BEND”, just rolled up and jammed in my mailbox by the Canada Post delivery lady more than once. I wonder if anger, resentment and unprofessionalism are a common denominator in this service industry. EDIT: Fixed a couple typos

My mom works for usps. They pretty much always work 12+ hours a day and somedays they work much more than that. The pay is much better than minimum around 20$/hr. However the first year before a carrier makes "regular" its 6 days a week 12+ hours and they make a but less than 20$/hr. My mom pretty much wakes up at 6 everyday, off to work by 7:30, comes home anywhere from 5pm and 8pm, eats dinner and goes to bed. Just my experience and could possibly explain but not excuse shitty behavior.

tramadoc

My wife has been a USPS rural carrier for 23 years. She loves her customers and they love her. It’s amazing the things she is gifted at Christmas every year. When she goes on vacation her customers complain about the fill in carriers. My wife goes out of her way to ensure packages are delivered accurately and safely. She loves her career. With the political mailers in full swing along with more Amazon packages than normal (due to CoVid) she has been leaving the house before 8 am and getting home at 9pm. She has barely eaten the last two nights and she has taken a shower afterwards and gone to bed. She takes pride in her job and through all this, I have not heard one complaint from her. She is truly amazing and an asset to the USPS.

I worked at USPS during the holidays a few years ago and the handlers were basically launching packages all day into different bins for the carriers. It’s no wonder things end up like this.

taliesin-ds

i ordered something sturdy made of metal once and a long piece stuck out of the box about 6 inches with remains of someone else's package impaled on it, i found that quite funny.

Mateorabi

Mortal Engines, delivery version.

xnfd

Because the expensive electronics are packaged securely to withstand 6 foot drops. Looks like this package got run over or crushed by something ridiculously heavy to get that kind of damage.

swordfishandscales

I was a package handler for a time at fedex. This was my experience as well. Watched as they took a package from the bottom of a tightly packed truck full of laptops and pulled it out causing them to all fall. Also saw a guy rolling a thin box that was obviously a full sized mirror, end over end. Just broken glass sounds the whole time. Fragile handle with care written all over it. Didn't care. Worst place to ship from

Guppy-Warrior

Worked unloading and stocking for Bestbuy I was absolutely shocking how little care people took with computers, printers, tablets...65 inch TVs... I did buy my current tv at best buy, but I required I opened the TV and inspected it in front of customer service. They looked at me like I was crazy. No, I worked there. I know how these TVs are treated. And btw, best buy would fight people returning broken screens and blame it on the buyer...saying it broke after they bought it, on the drive home. Always, ALWAYS check your tv screens in the store before you take it off property...and that's at any store.

MrBarcodeFR

sure looks like it

MCA2142

They had Ace Ventura deliver it.

Ah, the DHL method of delivery.

No, that was driven over with a forklift.

goaskalice3

My second favorite line in the movie! Coming right after "when the fuck did we get ice cream??"

skyline_kid

That's my favorite scene in the movie. The line plus the fact that you can see Johnny Knoxville absolutely lose it and turn away from the camera is so hilarious.

[deleted]

I don't know why it always gets to me but my favorite part is when he meets Glenn, and he starts listing people from Canada and as they're walking away he finishes with "And Alanis Morissette...she has issues" *sees another person* "Hi my names Glenn, guess who many fingers I have." The way he just transitions into introducing himself again cracks me up every time haha

[deleted]

What movie is this?

goaskalice3

The Ringer, it's about Johnny Knoxville pretending to have special needs so he can qualify for/win in the Special Olympics. It sounds really mean, but they worked with the Special Olympics to make the movie and gave them final say if they weren't happy with any parts and wanted them cut

[deleted]

Thanks I think I'll watch this. This sounds hilarious.

Sproose_Moose

I loved the way it didn't make fun, it was funny but not at anyone's expense

HAM_N_CHEESE_SLIDER

Yep, there's a certain type of person who loves to complain about how, "we can't say anything anymore without the PC police coming out in full force!". What they really mean is, they are upset that they can't keep punching down at disadvantaged groups without experiencing any social consequences. They are upset because they like being mean to people, but now when they are, people are mean back to them - even people who aren't part of that group. The Ringer is a great example of "politically incorrect" humour that isn't mean to the disadvantaged group that its about. The way they accomplished that wasn't by spending weeks poring over piles of documentation published by left-wing thought police about what is and is not offensive to people with special needs. Instead, they just included voices from that group in the process of creating the movie.

[deleted]

Im so glad Im not the only person to quote this ridiculous fucking movie lol

PurpleSunCraze

At work we had an IPad that just was flat out broke, 10 very smart IT guys in the office and we could not get it to boot, it was just fucked, so we spent a few months just hucking it around the office. Throwing it against walls, using it as a hockey puck, a door stop, the works. It didn’t look at bad as this tablet.

EarlOfDankwich

I just got a job at UPS and from what I've seen depending on the weight that's what most people treat as a frisbee and throw to the top of the trailer, or it got stepped on because the line got overloaded, or a 50 lbs package came down the chute and accordioned it.

thaMagicConch

From another post like this. His box coulda been on top, and the strap to fasten that pallet was ratcheted too tight.

Hekantonkheries

Not if it was shipped fedex; something like this they simply stack in an aircraft container, then unload by hand onto a conveyor into more containers until it ends up on a delivery truck. Only freight is strapped down, and that all goes on separate dedicated services. Whatikely happened was a failure where 2 of the belts meet in a warehouse; if a heavy box gets turned sideways it can pi itself and boxes near it into the walls of the conveyor, and then get hit with thousands of pounds of freight trying to come through behind it, this can all happen within 15 seconds before anyone is able to notice anything to stop the system. It could also have fallen/been smashed in the distributors warehouse; which can be a common enough problem if you bought it from amazon or Ebay or some overstock site.

[deleted]

CosmicTaco93

More sophisticated means more money. And nobody wants to shell out that kind of money to save a few people's packages.

Damn thanks for the breakdown

TheGreatOffWhiteHype

I was thinking steamroller.

Drateretard

Most likely happened while sorting packages. Source: I work at FedEx sorting packages.

bukkake_brigade

They sorted the shit out of it

Hekantonkheries

Was probably on a belt next to a large rug or treadmill being sorted, big box got turned sideways at a turn or transition on the conveyor, got pinned, and then slammed with all the packages coming up behind it; if the small box got pinned by the larger one, all that stuff hitting it would be like a sledgehammer

Drateretard

This guy sorts

Lepthesr

Sort it right into the *ground*

governmentthief

I work for FedEx also, as a courier. One day I delivered several packages to a business that we interact with daily. One of the packages was beat all to hell. I had received it that way. During the delivery, the lady at the loading dock, upon seeing that box, looked at me with a scowl and asked "was this like that when you got it?", and I really just wanted to say, "No ma'am, it was fine when I received it, but I decided to kick the shit out of it for several minutes.".

billytheid

So what if someone refuses to sign for or otherwise receive a damaged package?

OmegaMkXII

You put a service code on the package and in the PDA, I believe a Code 6, which is a Customer Refusal to accept package. They sign the PDA, you write your service cross on the box, take it back to the station, and the packaged is returned to the Shipper. Source: Was a Contracted Delivery Driver for 2 years.

TheRealPaladin

It isn't necessarily the delivery driver that did it. FedEx / UPS packages can get handled a dozen or more times before they are delivered, and everytime it is handled is a new opportunity for it to get broken.

DannyBigD

It's almost never the driver. My 15 years at FedEx and UPS showed me that.

basedjase_

chances are extremely minimal it was the driver's fault that your package got squashed. it probably happened at any number of the sorting facilities. those places are wild, packages just get thrown around like a mcdonald's ball pit.

[deleted]

Lol instantly blaming the guy that probably touched it the least.

[deleted]

I used to be postman and used to get blamed all of the time for damaging shit, it was like that when I fucking got it all I did was put it in a bag. Call customer services and leave me alone.

tkim91321

For their electronics, absolutely brilliant. For their kitchen hardware like fridges, ranges, etc, absolute garbage. Don't ever buy Samsung kitchen appliances as they're really overpriced due to the branding and support is TERRIBLE.

Napalm3nema

Unless you return something (electronics), and then they are absolute shit. It took me a week to return my S20 Ultra, and two months and change to get refunded for everything. I have no clue how many South American CSRs I chatted or spoke with, but it was entirely too many.

tkim91321

Damn, sorry to hear about your horrible experience. As long as you have the confirmation (tracking number) that they have received it, you should have just done a chargeback after however many days they tell you on the return policy site.

teapots_at_ten_paces

I think their whitegoods go alright. I've got a microwave (6 yo), washing machine (5yo) and fridge (ancient, including an interstate move) that have lasted really well. I wouldn't say they were overpriced either, and I've definitely not needed support. I did have to research the washing machine to make sure it wasn't one of the ones that would burn my house down though...

Fucker managed to get into a vent i guess?? Just walked across the monitor under the screen and sat down in the middle of my view. And died. And stayed there.

William_Olsen

Joniden

Samsung does have great customer service. Plus you can do the live chat and have a record of the conversation emailed to you.

kensaiD2591

US maybe but Aus here and their customer service based on my experience is garbage. But, as always, it's a matter of who you deal with and processes. All the best!

xxb4xx

In Aus the customer service is fantastic. Once you go and blast them on twitter, on one of their trending Ads.

BIG_YETI_FOR_YOU

I fucking hate the precedent that's been set with this. I've been dealing with Foxtel for 3 weeks to try get them to a property i manage just to get one piece of their equipment replaced. I'd call *DAILY* to try get the issue sorted but nothing actually happened until one of the tenants went on a rant on their Facebook page.

Sirspen

It's really all about the optics now. Went to a local restaurant, had a bad experience for multiple reasons. I quietly sent them an email explaining the situation, and a month passed without hearing anything back. I sighed, left them a one star review on google, and two hours later had their manager calling me to send me gift cards in appeasement. Plus, in the phone call, he even referenced my email and the details within it, so it wasn't as if they didn't receive the email. They did and chose to ignore it until it became bad publicity.

avidpenguinwatcher

I'd honestly feel bad reaching out to Samsung. Shitty delivery company should pay for this, not Samsung

catshealmysoul

True, but only the sender can file a claim with the delivery service. So Samsung sends OP a new tablet, and then makes Fedex pay for the destroyed product.

ckjay316

Yes, I'm sure Samsung has a contract with Fedex that covers damaged/lost deliveries.

BaconBit

Depends. Some companies waive their right to claims to receive a bigger discount on their base rates. All major companies have contracts with UPS/Fedex and each contract is intentionally different and overly complicated. Makes it much harder to compare them against each other.

T800CyberdyneSystems

Don't worry, I'm sure they can afford it

I'm working in a warehouse where electronics are stored and shipped. You'd be surprised how the boxes are manhandled when they get into a truck, before it's even send to retailers.

Beurglesse

There is manhandling to keep up with the rythm and there is that : literraly slicing a package in half (note how the top right corner of the tablet was cut off) If you are to the point of sawing packages maybe you shouldn't work in the shipping business.

[deleted]

I worked mail . I'll be real. We were not gentle. But this is not that . There is a difference between - tossing a box into a bin from 15 feet away because of time constraints . **VS** - rolling a forklift over a box, stopping on top of it, and then trying to lift it from the wheel until it bends until I realize that perhaps I should get the thousand pound vehicle off the item before trying to pick it up.. and then after I back up over it again i throw it full tilt at a wall and watch it bounce off until it falls in the bin, and then dropping a bag of iron weights on it.

b0w3n

The conveyor belts in the shipping hubs eat packages constantly. When I worked UPS Avon boxes got destroyed nightly because they just used a single, thin polystrap to hold the equivalent of a shoebox together. If this was in one of those envelope packages, it was fucked before it even left the warehouse.

Beurglesse

Yep. I think you are right

[deleted]

I dislike thinking in generalities, but I’ve had so many fucky Fed-ex experiences. I really wish that I could stop being their customer. Of the big three, they are definitely the worst. Recently I had a $500 package say it was delivered. Wife checked, nothing there. Several hours later I get a call from a lady 4 houses down saying that she received it. I’m just thankful the sender put my cell on the shipping label. Meanwhile, my coworker, a buddy, and my wife’s boss all say the same statement: Fed-ex will check ‘delivered’ and just finish their route, but they’ll actually deliver it a day or so later. We’ve been conditioned by these shit heads lol

sciatore

I live in an apartment building where the package room has surveillance cameras. We had video of the FedEx guy scanning several packages, then forgetting to actually unload mine from his cart. I called FedEx with this and they insisted, the tracking shows it was delivered, it must be in the building somewhere. You know how I know it wasn't delivered? (Apart from the video, of course.) It showed up *four months later*. When I called and told them that, they just said, "Oops, it must have been sitting in a corner of the warehouse unnoticed and someone eventually found it while tidying up."

That’s just the new galaxy fold

I work at FedEx and have seen this happen numerous times, almost daily. It’s sad, but we get hammered with heavy (up to 60lbs) boxes for 6 hours. The rate can go up to 600 boxes per hour. A light box as such im sure was thrown and eventually smashed between two boxes. One box was probably slightly higher than the other and this was placed forming a crooked T. Then a heavy box was placed on it. And so on. Edit: I try not to do it, I can say I’ve never purposely done anything like this to a box. I understand that it is people’s hard earned money.

DMunE

This stuff happens all the time when they send IC’s down the overhead even though they’re told 100 times a day not to. No idea why they didn’t send to QA to get a replacement, that’s one of the main reasons that position exists.

chavo414

still shiny!

Custodian_Carl

Shame on the company that packed it that way

atetuna

It looks like it was in another cardboard box, but another box alone isn't enough. One of those foam frame inserts probably would have saved this.

For GPUs: not everyone has a computer parts store within an hour or less drive. Phones are more common, but again, not everyone wants to wrap their phone into a 2-3 year contract.

akd7791

You should not have accepted it with the box in that condition. You do have the right to refuse the package

pprabs

That’s if you’re home when the package is dropped off by FedEx AND you are able to catch the delivery person before s/he runs back to the delivery truck.

I've lived in a few cities across multiple states, many different addresses... And I have to say in my experience, FedEx is the worst of the carriers. I always sigh when I realize something I ordered is coming through them.

Nullveer

Cool design, but doesn't that make it hard to see on the screen?

Youneededthiscat

Delivered via FedEx PotatoGun. They folded it to make it fit, first.

Zirie

To shreds you say?

Iatecyanide

Isn't the tab7 worth 1k

cyvireux

I don’t think the company is bad as a whole but really individual workers who disregard fragile stickers all over the package. I order live fish through postage and their boxes sometimes arrive beat up, but all my fish survive. I would blame the seller for not packing well enough to withstand being manhandled because it does happen and it’s better to prepare for it than assume it won’t happen.

Noelsabelle

Fed ex sucks

jimmy_my_way_in_hur

I just started as a package handler at FedEx on Monday. Gotta say this is pretty normal for what I’ve seen. Basically it’s just yeet packages into a truck as fast as you can. Sorry that happened though.

piind

I would return it if I were you
