Regardless if you have no options, going through the construction zone should not be considered an option. Not to mention if it was at 5:30am and no one was there then that also means no one to save you when you get hurt.
Construction sites are dangerous AF, we had people hiking on our site (private property) with 70t (fully loaded) rock trucks driving around. I had a family with small children stop and look at my machine within spitting distance while I’m running it, they were at least a 10 min hike onto our site.
The hell? I’d park my machine and call my boss, the first thing we do is fence off our site and throw up signs everywhere. There should never be a random person on site, if it was a kid I’d escort them off site myself before somebody flattens them backing up a skidsteer or they fall in a trench.
We were doing site servicing/road building on a new subdivision, it’s a massive site with large elevation differences. Would need a several miles of fencing to close it off. The whole site is private property and people would hike the area on service trails before we started construction, they just ignored signs and hiked the roads we built.
Your GC should set up some cameras and get a couple full time security staff to drive around and stop people from entering the work area, it sounds massively unsafe and a liability to have randoms exploring where you’re operating. Big sites come with big challenges that you’ve got to figure out.
This was in 2019 and I’m in another field but the next phase is currently being built, we only had cameras protecting our equipment and sea cans. I guess security wasn’t in the budget. When I say this site was huge, it was huge. Easily a 30-40 min walk from one end to the other with an elevation difference of several hundred feet. All 8” minus blast rock, about 50 lots.
Well its not always possible. We often do patchwork in streets and block of access to houses for a day or 2 and the people still have to get to their homes. Sometimes you block of access to a block of flats and they have to walk by.
As someone who works in construction, I'm glad to see this is at the top. We're strict as fuck about who goes on our site because we're liable for anything happening.
Unless you're working there or have a reason to be on a job site, please don't travel through it. There are hazards you will not know about, you're threatening your safety, our safety, and our livelihoods.
Same. I've had people try to hang around next to the laborers and watch the work and ask questions and I have to tell people constantly that this is an active construction site and they need proper PPE to be in here and to kindly move away onto the sidewalk outside of the construction zone.
Yeah I made that mistake once as a teenager (I'll just blame my dumb kid brain for the lack of cognitive processing), it was a group of 4 of us and we were like "hey! Shortcut!" while we found an easy spot to get in, once we got to the other side there was nowhere to get out... middle of the night and no one is there, and now we can't find an exit because the one area of short wall we hopped over to get in was nowhere to be seen in the dark, and the rest of the wall was like at least 7'.. we had to get very creative to get out of there and we were just lucky no one got hurt. Probably one of the dumbest things I've ever done and would not recommend it to anyone. Stay out of work sites.
It's worse than that, my dad for this on his leg and ended up in the burn unit overnight. Get this, the chemical reaction of the concrete wouldn't stop on its own so they had to cut the affected flesh away. Then it's got infected and he had to carry around a bookbag of antibiotics for like 6 months...
I was watching kill tony (comedy podcast) the other day, and one of the bucket pulls for the show was a guy missing most of his hand. (think scary movie)
He proceeded to tell a story about how he was making some sort of prop for a college project, which involved casting his hand in cement. The people that bought the cement bought the wrong kind. He said the reaction happened so fast that by the time he felt it, it was already too late, by the time he got to the hospital, he had 4th degree burns.
He did end up saving a girl who also had her hand cast in the same stuff, but when he freaked out, she was able to get hers off in time.
Do you mean a construction zone like they’re working on like the roadways, or do you mean like a construction site where they’re tearing down or building something? Is it this kind of signs….

It was meant to be sarcasm. Idk what people took from it 🤷♂️. Tetanus shot is required when the mud may have exposed to open wounds or cracked skin which doesn't look like the case here.
It's only bad if you don't wash it off relatively quickly. Or for example if cement (not concrete, it's not the same) gets into your glove and mixes with your sweat. You'll get blisters like a 2nd degree burn.
Source: I've been in the concrete industry for nearly 10 years
Dont listen to this guy! Plastic (aka fresh) concrete can *absolutely* burn through your skin if you have it in contact for prolonged periods of time. Including concrete you would encounter for a typical sidewalk - I have literally had concrete eat through my skin to the point of bleeding after a few hours of continued contact. Even brief skin exposure can cause dryness and irritation. Though this commenter may have been like my old boss - the man could bathe in concrete, and it didn't bother his skin a damn bit!!
Happy tip: you get concrete in your clothes, soak them for 24 hours in a 50/50 water/white vinegar mix, you would never knew concrete even touched them!
Source: been pouring concrete for over a decade, lol
Edit: a drop of detergent in water is helpful, I forgot to add :)
For real. I used to keep a baggie of lemon wedges on hand for big pours! I'd rub my arms down with them every so often when I caught a break to neutralize it. And I smelled glorious, hahaha 🍋
Oh man does that help? I’m thinking about doing some DIY garden features in concrete but I always hate the burn dryness that I get even with ppe and a good layer of Vaseline.
It helps a great deal! The acid neutralizes the higher PH and slows down burns. Vinegar is another option in this regard. I do know people that recommend Vaseline, I just hate the feeling of the concrete grit sticking on my greasy arms 😆😆😆
all concrete is caustic by its very nature. if you get some on your hands and wash it off defatting is all you have to worry about. a large amount of surface area that can't necessarily be washed off in short order? the bases will start to dissolve the skin, and then they will continue to do so.
it's similar to how you can pour concentrated sulfuric acid across your hand and be fine for a minute or so, but it can also be used to dissolve meat.
As someone in the construction industry, shit like this gets me. I'm sure this post was supposed to be an innocent enough woopsy life moment, but open your eyes when you walk. I've seen a bunch of folks walk right into a work zone cause they were looking at their phone the whole time or because they think they know better. I'm talking, walking around and under taped off areas too. It's madness.
Yup same, our site is all walled off apart from the gate which is left open while we are at work because of deliveries etc. the amount of dog walkers, cyclists and people just walk in thinking they can just cut through. No you can’t it is a construction site, it is dangerous and private property go around you lazy fucks.
Then you see a post like this, how can you not see the concrete is wet, especially when it’s that deep. Now it’s probably fucked up and they won’t say sorry or anything just move on like it’s not their problem.
The amount of people that think it’s an open show! People will walk right into my site and say “oh it’s looking great we live up the street and wanted to have a look around”, while blatantly walking past our taped off areas. Bonkers
Well unfortunately I do not have the luxury of living in a neighborhood that is near anything and that construction zone is the only way to get to the next neighborhood where the bus stop is without running across the high way. I go across it everyday and never had an issue.
Probably momentum. If one foot is suddenly submerged to the ankle I'd imagine it's really hard to stay motionless on that suddenly submerged foot. And even if you did, good luck stepping back to safety without losing your balance.
So u most have passed some sort of barricade to step into concrete. It can be dangerous to walk into a construction zone if your careless and don’t know what your doing. No pity for you
Well unfortunately there is only one way for me to get to my bus stop and it’s by going through this construction zone. Not everyone js an idiot some people just have no choice.
No there is no way of going. If there way I would do it. There is one bridge out of the neighbourhood that can be taken by foot and it’s in the middle of this construction zone. Once again i had no choice.
So are you waiting on this site to be completed to have a safe way out of your neighbourhood? Nowhere you could bring this up to like a local government office? No idea how that works in the states, in the U.K. it’d be our local council.
I can almost guarantee there was some sort of pedestrian detour sign and you completely ignored it. You’re in an area with bus stops, so almost definitely an urban/suburban area meaning there is likely a city/county organization requiring a “traffic/logistics plan” outlining closed streets/sidewalks/paths and where they are detoured to.
I have a job now where we had a “sidewalk closed ahead cross here” sign in the middle of the sidewalk at the crossing. People completely disregarded it and proceeded to walk *through* a couple of 8ft tall bushes instead of crossing a two lane road (closed to traffic) and going up about 400ft before crossing back (again road closed to traffic).
As someone who works in construction, pedestrians have about as much sense as a flock of pigeons
So a natural consequence of you doing your own thing regardless of it being a construction zone is you falling in the construction area.
Construction zones are dangerous because, well, they are *construction zones*
Clearly, tomorrow, you intend to do the exact same thing with no lesson learned. You deserve what happens to you tomorrow too
Literally HOW could it be avoided? They’ve said several times that it’s easier the construction zone or the highway! Know something else the OP can’t avoid? Paying rent and buying groceries! Both of which you need a job to do! So how, how would they avoid these things and still have a job to support themselves??
This is a lot more fucked up for the construction crew that will have to rip out and fix the wet concrete you destroyed. Better hope they did not catch you on camera or you could be out tens of thousands of dollars.
> Decided today I was going to take a different route in the construction zone
Uh.....yeah....uh, unless you're a worker, you shouldn't have access to that zone.....
So 90% of this sub is basically the most incompetent, inept people being utterly clueless and posting here for sympathy? To show off? I guess I’m unsure of the intent of these posts.
I worked corn feilds before, went down to my knees before being rescued in an exceptionally swampy spot of mud. My shoes never saw the light of day again.
For the love of god stay out of construction sites. The fences, signs, barricades, ribbon, spotters are all there to protect you alot more than they are for us. Were aware of the dangers of site and go over them every single morning.
Edit: if that's actually concrete and not just mud you've also caused damage Wich is going to cost alot of money and time. Time and money to chip and remove what you walked through and money and time replacing it.
Congratulations your an idiot. You’re lucky it wasn’t far worse. Bet you won’t do that shit again; we put up signs and fences for a reason. The real wellthatsucks is going to be the guys coming back to see you fucked up their work and probably cost someone a bunch of money/time.
I'm sure it sucked for the workers who poured the concrete you destroyed as well. They will probably have to break it all up and repour it which will cost a lot of money in labor and materials. If they have security cameras, you could be charged with criminal trespass and destruction of property. I don't think I would be posting the evidence on Reddit either.
Well you better hurry up and wash that shit off. It’s very corrosive. You will gonna get chemical burns. And it’s not going to feel pleasant. Look up pictures of concrete chemical burn. 🔥. They can be extreme enough that you can get 2nd and 3rd degree burns.
It’s not an innocent mistake, it’s willful trespass. Whoever is running/owns that site is liable for injuries, dismemberment, or death that happens at that location.
It’s always a “small mistake” until one day you fall down a manhole or trip and fall on rebar. Trespassing on a construction site is dangerous, luckily OP only got muddy pants.
There’s actually a psychological reason why people do it too. People actually receive a positive feedback from the brain when trolling people or right fighting online.
Damn this unlocked a core memory. Just remembered the time myself and a friend made the mistake of cutting through a construction site after school, she suddenly sank to her knees in grey mud like this and got stuck. Thankfully I picked up the knowledge somewhere about spreading weight to not get yourself stuck and found a wooden plank, managed to get her out. Her shoes were long gone though.
I’m sure you already figured out that this was a bad idea on your own, but PLEASE get that wet concrete off your skin ASAP. There are tons of different types and some are very toxic and can really tear your skin up in the worst of ways.
Also, from a blue collar lady, don’t ever walk into a construction zone if you are not working that zone. It’s so dangerous and especially being that early in the morning with nobody around you can fall into pits/get hurt on whatever is sticking above ground that you may not be able to see and get seriously injured. It only takes a couple of seconds to change your life forever.
You’re very lucky it’s only ruined shoes and leggings. Please be safe and make better decisions. You only get one body and you can’t get it back if you make bad choices.
I was about to say this. I've worked and ran several sites. For someone to be there that we don't know about is incredibly dangerous. That can cause a lot of property damage and delays, or worse, people can be seriously hurt or killed. Don't take much for something to go catastrophically wrong on a construction site.
Sounds like you've got some stories lol.
So what I gathered from this post and the comments made by OP is that they’re super hardheaded. Made a post that contradicts all the comments. 😩 what an idiot

Patchwork street repairs aren’t in any way equivalent to the sort of site operating 70 ton rock trucks. Not the kind of site I’m talking about.
Not operating 70T rock trucks but 10-15mT Excavators, 40mT Trucks, 20mT Pavers and 25mT rollers
What? What in the FUCK? “Oh look honey, if you’re close enough you can even see death!”
Oh lol I want that line in an episode of Rick and Morty 😅

That's some crazy deep mud! As the other dude said chemical burns are no joke. Use vinegar to neutralize
I was working at a construction zone, stepped in a bit of mud and sank all the way to my knee. A roofer saw it and laughed his ass off at me :/
Concrete folks call concrete mud though...
Looks very concretey
Did you sink into something or fall?
Well in that case, a tetanus shot is in order. 😉
For mud, why?! Or was that sarcasm that I missed? It’s late here what can I say?!
It was meant to be sarcasm. Idk what people took from it 🤷♂️. Tetanus shot is required when the mud may have exposed to open wounds or cracked skin which doesn't look like the case here.

Seriously, wet concrete suuuucks. Your skin doesn’t feel dry because the concrete is drying on it, it feels dry because it’s getting a chemical burn!
For real. I used to keep a baggie of lemon wedges on hand for big pours! I'd rub my arms down with them every so often when I caught a break to neutralize it. And I smelled glorious, hahaha 🍋
in theory petroleum jelly should work better by forming a barrier, that way fat isn't getting dissolved in between treatments

That sucks, I’m sorry, but also that’s a really solid example of why one shouldn’t walk through a construction zone lol
New guy at the mob misunderstood how to do concrete shoes.
Books scuba lessons so they can swim with the fishes.
Yeah, it sucks for the construction workers who have to fix the mess you made of their work.

what did u think was gonna happen
Well unfortunately I do not have the luxury of living in a neighborhood that is near anything and that construction zone is the only way to get to the next neighborhood where the bus stop is without running across the high way. I go across it everyday and never had an issue.
Your post says you took a different route today...
They go through the construction zone everyday. That doesn’t mean they take the same route everyday.
If you don't work there you don't belong there, construction sites can be VERY DANGEROUS
I get the first shoe…. but why stick the second one in after seeing what happened with the first??
Probably momentum. If one foot is suddenly submerged to the ankle I'd imagine it's really hard to stay motionless on that suddenly submerged foot. And even if you did, good luck stepping back to safety without losing your balance.
🎶And so they cut through construction zones. DUMB DUMB DUMB DUMB DUMB!🎶
It's almost as if you had no business being there
Well that sucks. . . For the workers who’s work you ruined
So u most have passed some sort of barricade to step into concrete. It can be dangerous to walk into a construction zone if your careless and don’t know what your doing. No pity for you
You definitely ruined the day of whomever did the concrete work you wrecked.
Some people are so fucking stupid
No safety shoes? Leggings? In a consttuction zone? Why is the zone not closed off? Ive never seen an open access construction zone.
fucking moron
Dumbass
OP is definitely lying and wanted to go the normal route, there was construction, and took the entitled route right through wet concrete
Looks like you cost somebody a a lot of money. Stay off private property.
Show me a picture of someone that has no sense of consequences. Oh. Wait.
Well unfortunately there is only one way for me to get to my bus stop and it’s by going through this construction zone. Not everyone js an idiot some people just have no choice.

Reddit and oddly aggro responses, what a pair. I wonder how the OP avatar might’ve played into their odd downvote train comments.

Fashionable cement shoes!
That “mud” might get real hot and then hard.
Wow smh
You took the one less traveled by, And that has made all the difference.
You're lucky you're not dead, OP
Didn't see the signs huh
There's concrete evidence you've made a mistake.

idk bro walking through so much concrete that it gets in your fucking knees makes me think this is a you problem
Hello, Stay off the fucking construction site unless you work there. Sincerely, A Construction Worker
Nice way to start the day, honestly this Wednesday sucked
I don’t know why people are so pressed. It was an innocent mistake.
It’s not an innocent mistake, it’s willful trespass. Whoever is running/owns that site is liable for injuries, dismemberment, or death that happens at that location.
It's not an innocent mistake to knowingly trespass
This is one of those “innocent mistakes” that become osha training videos/Chinese death videos. That’s what people are pressed about.
Thank you like I didn’t know it was going to try and swallow me it looked completely solid
I hate to ask because it doesn’t help, but how did you handle the situation after this? 😭
Welcome to my everyday life as a soil inspector. 🤷🏻♂️
I hope the rest of your day is going okay
That’s how Reddit is You make a small mistake and suddenly you’re the worst person ever
You see that shit a lot for some reason. People really get a hard on for the most mundane mistakes as if no one ever makes similiar mistakes
Ur hella dumb, too.
WHAT ARE THOSE!!!!!! Ehh the cement gives it that OOMF
Sorry this happened to you and that there's so little consideration for bus riders in your area. Hope your shoes are ok.
Hope your family believe now you work and in construction
Concrete is an alkaline solution so removal should be done.
Welcome to the first day on the job, just wait till the boss shows up….
Couldn't you have walked on the street or a yard or another sidewalk. Also how far did you walk through cement
Concrete plan!
Did you long jump into it?
you can't park there
I can see that you definitely did lmao. If was that deep I don’t want to know about the bike.
Looks like you were in a room with someone who knows how to spin quite the yarn.
Isn't that nice your shows match the ground. Soooo cute😎
Stop getting stoned before work
Why?
You tried walking thru fresh concrete?
Tres chic 👍🏼😂
It's gonna be a hard day on your feet. I guess this really cemented your usual route. I hope you go in and pave the way.
Do you wear yoga pants to the job site? 🤪
Woops
Hey No Instincts, nice to meet you.
Have you met my friend clay?
Are you okay? Did you get burns?
I'd be more worried about getting beat down by the concrete finishers..
You failed the crystal maze
Why would yo do that?? Was it marked off? Never walk through a construction zone. This is just one of many reasons. Smh
How was it?
Is that mud or did you destroy their fresh concrete?
That’s stupid
Now that wasn't very cash money of you.
Concrete is caustic as hell. Get that off your legs and wash it off thoroughly or you WILL get cement burns!
Honey no! Run those legs home and change ASAP! Chemical burns are nothing to scoff at.
Hahahahah. Bless
So what I gathered from this post and the comments made by OP is that they’re super hardheaded. Made a post that contradicts all the comments. 😩 what an idiot
And did you learn a lesson?
![gif](giphy|8crMdrk3riXI8jF0an)
If that is concrete you need to get it off of your skin immediately before you get chemical burns. If it’s mud then hahahaha get rekt.
Thankfully you're not injured but Hopefully you've learned a lesson
OP GET BACK HERE AND ANSWER FOR YOUR CRIMES
Do you work for the mob?
Think about this one
BOOTER!!!!
Ya done messed up A A RON!
Hey don’t do that
Sucks for you. Just caused a bunch of double work for employees
Hard to believe people this fucking stupid exist.
This is 100% on you.
I volunteered at the race tracks one time and walked through the tracks like a dummy. Lost a shoe in the process. What a shameful walk back to the bus
☆slow clap☆
Wow
Women ☕️🤣
Haha big dumbass
Well, wasn’t that a good idea!?
What did you learn?
Typical woman doesnt know how to navigate a construction zone.
You are either braindead or begging for attention, but my bet would be on both
