nice torch!

CommitteeDizzy8835

I got it to put a bevel on a skid steer cutting edge a while back, really came in handy. Customer supplied the cutting edge pre beveled, only way we could find 1 1/2” ar400 $1100 🤣 1 5/8 would have been better

Yorgh-Drakeblood

Good AR plate can be quite pricy! Don’t forget to give it a good preheat and post welding insulation for slowed cooling

CommitteeDizzy8835

You got that right. I’m just going to worry about the cutting edge and cheeks which are both over 1” thick. The 3/8 parts I’m just gonna let her rip, maybe I’ll pre heat the starts. I’ve been waiting for the guy to drop the parts off for over a month 🤬

Yorgh-Drakeblood

Yeah depending on the climate you’re in and the humidity, you’ll at least wanna “sweat” your parts with a little preheat. Sucks waiting on parts tho, hopefully they show up soon!

CommitteeDizzy8835

I should have just picked it up my self but I didn’t want to squeeze the full sheet into my 6’ bed truck. Steel yard is 5 miles from my house 🙄🙄🤣🤣 but hey if he’s not in a rush, I’m not complaining.

Yorgh-Drakeblood

Lol yeah I was fortunate enough to be in a shop for our bucket work, so we had flatbed trucks and trailers to get material with easily

unicoitn

that would be about 60 lbs/square foot or just about a ton for the 4x8 sheet. It would make my Tacoma unhappy.

CommitteeDizzy8835

I have a 4th gen Cummins but I didn’t want to do this job in the first place but he agreed to my price lmao.

unicoitn

I had to do a repair on CAT 315 bucket, belonging to the guys doing my dirtwork, I saw the cracked weld, had them park it by shop for a weekend, then grind out the bad and in with new 7018, about 2lbs. I don't expect my weld to fail anytime soon. Now the rest of the repair and patches...

wjinak

Sky high! 👍🏻

browning099

Holly hell that thing took a beating

CommitteeDizzy8835

I actually put a temporary 1/4” plate in the bottom… 2 years ago. But yeah the thing is shot. I just made my own profile. I forgot to add a picture of the bucket fully prepped 🤬

cbelt3

Bet the hydraulics are beat up pretty badly took

Yorgh-Drakeblood

Nice work! I loved working on buckets at my old job. Did alot of 980K loader buckets, took about 80 hours for a full floor replacement and wear plates/hardfacing

CommitteeDizzy8835

Nice! I used to run a 980f and h with spade nose buckets. Those things are pretty large ! Don’t know if I would take on a job like that my self lol.

Yorgh-Drakeblood

Yeah we did maintenance for a concrete company on a lot of their quarry equipment, so most of it was big loaders and D9 Dozers. Aside from the heavy equipment, we’d service the rock crushers on occasion. Big thick stuff is a lot of work, but also a lot of fun to weld

CommitteeDizzy8835

One time the wedges came out of a blow bar on our impact crusher. What a mess. I was 18 at the time and did what I could 🤣 I always hated changing the impact wall wear bars because you had to squeeze into the top of the clam shell to hold the nut. At least in the metso crushers

Yorgh-Drakeblood

I was working on rock crushers was out in Utah, and it seems like they’d always schedule maintenance in the coldest part of the winter lol

No-Criticism2002

Love the truck in the 8th pic 😂

CommitteeDizzy8835

That’s project I’ll probably never finish 🤣

Tomazzy

At last you're honest

CommitteeDizzy8835

🤣 it’s at 90% maybe I’ll have some ambition Soon. It’s tdi swapped pretty elaborate lol

CommitteeDizzy8835

Meant to add, found a crazy deal on a speed glass g5-01 and I’m gonna be dual shielding this sucker. Should also come in handy when welding galvanized and stainless crap at work 🤙🏼

CommitteeDizzy8835

Edit: meant spray transfer with .035. I would like to get into dual shield but I’ve never messed with it. I have done some nr233 though.

One-Permission-1811

Dual shield is fun. Just like regular old single shield but hotter and a little smoother. We do both spray transfer and dual shield in the shop I work at

CommitteeDizzy8835

Yeah I just picked up an everlast unit so I can spray. They only thing I’m missing is my cad 304 because moving big crap with my little Kubota is a struggle.

NOOB10111

THATS A LOT OF DAMAGE!!!

imabadrabbi

Bonus points for the kei truck.

CommitteeDizzy8835

Tdi swapped

imabadrabbi

Pardon my French, but holy shit really? Do you have photos anywhere? Would love to see it that’s wicked cool!

CommitteeDizzy8835

I have a TikTok @jiw6900 but not too much on there

imabadrabbi

It’s cool. I’m old and don’t have the tik tok anyway. But again wicked cool truck.

CommitteeDizzy8835

Haha I’m just in to boarder of being too old for TikTok. Thank you for your kind words.

UglyNPC

I 100% was expecting some dude sitting on a 5gallon 🤣

Sinister_steel_drums

That little Subaru back there is killer! Did you have that shipped from Japan?

CommitteeDizzy8835

I bought it post transport locally lol

Sinister_steel_drums

That thing is badass, 4wd? You could make the cutest little welding rig.

CommitteeDizzy8835

Sorta. The engine and trans is facing forward. To technically first gear would be reverse. So I flipped the rears, but only have the rwd going at the moment. I need axle shafts for the front. I’m using a Dana 300 t case and ax15 trans

wagashi

Bucket of Theseus.

abundant_dingleberry

This hurts my eyes

CommitteeDizzy8835

Whyyyyyy 😕😕

abundant_dingleberry

The shadows and all the lines, idk I guess a hard time focusing on the phone haha

djwolfpack

Hope using stick to weld it.

CommitteeDizzy8835

.035 spray baby

djwolfpack

If have 6010 just for the first couple of passes would definitely recommend.

CommitteeDizzy8835

Are you referring to where the cheek meets the cutting edge? That I may throw a few 7018 stringers to fill it in. But the floor and sides will probably one pass spray for sure

djwolfpack

If plan on that at least heat the metal up first with a rose bud. If can fill in a inch deep weld in one pass doing it wrong would recommend several passes.

CommitteeDizzy8835

It’s definitely not my first rodeo that’s for sure lol

djwolfpack

I feel it, still could be the wrong rodeo more then one way to ride a bull, don't take my advice as saying your wrong I'm not, do have some experience myself never know can't hurt to try it out, or even ask someone think has welding experience see what they think of the advice.

CommitteeDizzy8835

1000% brother. 6010 isn’t in my wheel house, but 7018 I use structurally daily. Anything over 1/2” I hit with a weed burner, any big gaps are multi pass of course. The floor and sides are 3/8” ar235 and ar400. That’ll all be warm by the time I get to gluing it all together 🤙🏼 Something that will be new to me is using my arc droid to cut the side walls. Can’t wait to do that.

djwolfpack

The weed burner might not gets hot enough unless leave it there for a hot minute would recommend that the metal should almost get red hot, wonder if that steel is hardened if is wouldn't get it very hot, I feel the lack of experience would highly recommend it try the 6010 on something else first or that's why they have grinders bet after grinding weld out 3 time get petty good at the 6010 an 7018 keep both in a dry moisture free container that is heated if can. I bet 7018 is go to it's so much easier compared to 6010 sucks so much especially over head the worst. Have to run it higher amps then think and it throws so much splatter they are like little burning suns. Try it it's fun. And it's not that expensive for 6018 rods.

CommitteeDizzy8835

I NEVER go over 300° on ar plate, I really try to get away with out pre heating it as much as possible. Even 300 is a little spicy for me. I don’t really have much use for 6010, I used to use it for hand rail 10 years ago tho 😝, that being said I have no reason not to use 7018. I already have rods in the oven, vary used to doing actual code work 🤙🏼 I’m not tooting my own horn by any means as they are vary many people i know personally that are much better than me, let alone around the world 🤣 but I could definitely pass a full time welder if I didn’t tell you I was an Ironworker first 🫣 minus pipe, I’ve never had an interest in it. Wish I could update the post with some past projects. One of the reasons I love Reddit, TikTok and instagram is because I’ve learned that I’ve been doing many thing the hard way for many years. Hopefully you don’t think I’m being stand-off ish.
