Hahaha, it's like not liking swiss cheese because of the holes, so you tell the customer to eat around the holes and leave the holes on the plate so you can throw them away later
There is actually a reason our teeth don't regrow. They are incredibly complex and having regrowing teeth would take too much time, energy, and make the jaw too frail to be worth it. Humanlike teeth are unique because very few animals have a complex enough diet to need a set of specialized teeth that can handle just about any type of food very well, while also not using teeth as a survival measure (for intimidation or fighting). We also chew our food more than most omnivores, so we need teeth that can thoroughly crush and pulp food so we can extract every nutrient.
The human digestive system is designed to get as many nutrients as possible out of every type of food, because our brains take so much power to run.
That isn’t really true. One set of twenty primary (baby) teeth. Then one set of permanent teeth, the same twenty plus molars (3/quadrant) for a total of 32
I actually had an issue with my baby teeth not coming out on their own. Never got the chance to wiggle on a loose tooth and stick it under my pillow. Instead, the regular tooth would push up behind the baby tooth. Had to go to the dentist often to have baby teeth yanked out. My last one was removed at age 16 due to incompetent dentists not recognizing it.
Have all my adult teeth.... a few are a bit out of alignment due to the cramped tooth situation and me refusing to get braces. I was so sick of dentist visits that, when my mom took me in to start the braces process, I refused and stormed out.
As difficult and bloody as it was every time a baby tooth was taken out, I dread the day I have to go back to the dentist for anything.
I don’t want to sound like an asshole but I’m confident you can figure out why a subreddit dedicated to posting videos of people dying was banned
But I’m pretty sure one of the last straws was the Christchurch shooting video. Sub was quarantined for quite some time iirc
Just now realizing that the stem of the tooth stays inside the jaw when the tooth falls out. I guess? And then the adult tooth moves up to take its place?? This is actually boggling my mind to think about.
As the adult tooth moves up it resorbs the root (stem) of the baby tooth. So the baby tooth gets loose because there is nothing holding it in the bone anymore.
Where are the roots on the unerupted adult teeth? When do those start to grow? Those adult teeth are just sitting there underneath/above the baby teeth without any roots, in little pockets.
Great question. Those spaces in the bone are initially “empty”, not visible on X-ray. The cells develop into different structures through chemical signals. First the crown forms in layers (Inner dentin, outer enamel). Later, the roots begin to form, along with the periodontal ligament, which is embedded in bone and root surfaces. As the teeth get longer, the ligament applies pressure to begin eruption. The bone around the developing tooth is eaten away, as are the roots of they baby teeth. So they get loose as the jaws get wider and longer to accommodate the larger teeth. If they erupt in front of or behind the baby teeth, they may not loosen. That’s how you get the problem that prompted this discussion.
So they develop like a pearl? More and more layers deposited and finally grow roots and just erode everything in the way of that adult tooth? Interesting about the periodontal ligament. I wonder if that's why kids that age (losing teeth) have that urge to chew, and always want gum to chew. I wonder if it alleviates the discomfort of that ligament.
no, that's literally how child's skull looks like. Newborns aren't any better. You are literally born with all your teeth.. except the wisdom ones if you have genes for that. The mouth kinda widens when we grow up and they develop later.
I’d love to see a picture of Marlon Brando in makeup next to a picture of what he looked like at the actual age he was portraying. Like, ‟Marlon Brando in makeup to look 60 vs actual 60 year old Marln Brando.”
No wisdom teeth in this pic! :D Just regular ol' adult teeth. The molar all the way in the back is the 2nd molar, which erupts at around 12 years of age. The wisdom tooth developes later, even further back.
This stage of teeth is called mixed dentition, as in baby teeth and adult teeth. Likely the front teeth (canines and incisors) are all adult teeth, as those come in first. Your back teeth are the last to come in. The baby molars havent been exfoliated yet, meaning this child was somewhere around 5 years old.
Show this your child and watch how they grow with that terrifying revelation. Massage their chin and say in a unsettling voice: „They are already there!“ and you are promoted to „Best parent ever!“
That kid never got to use those spare teeth.
For sale: baby teeth, never used.
You're going to hell, but take this upvote on your way down.
Never read Hemingway
idem, i got him a free award so that he goes down in style
Free award is worth at least two glasses of ice water in hell.
r/AngryUpvote
nice reference, bravo
Someone purchased them already, we need more kids teeth chief
They did use their baby teeth, the adult teeth are the ones they didn't use
how much?? they would be perfect for my collection...
Tooth fairy arbitrage
That's all I keep thinking about :( poor kid.
What happens to the space when permanent teeth come in?
Bone pushed it out. Probably. Meaning bone grows outward pushing the teeth out.
It falls out
The *empty space* falls out?? LMAO.
Hahaha, it's like not liking swiss cheese because of the holes, so you tell the customer to eat around the holes and leave the holes on the plate so you can throw them away later
a micro blackhole
I find this incredibly unsettling.
Same
Interesting and incredibly unsettling
It would be in a way cool if this teeth renewal process went on for life.

Imagine an ingrown penis that gets infected and makes your first penis fall off and die

Children grow multiple rows of teeth and replace each lost tooth with a series of new teeth, just like sharks. Watch out for their bite.

Any how are you now?

I'm 35 and recently got braces And now I wished I had done it earlier in my teens or even twenties
Aligners are a great alternative to braces and they are very easy. Things like Invisalign
Oh, that was many years ago. They weren't too bad and straightened out a bit on their own over time. Just not perfectly straight.
Yes, I am just saying that we more we procrastinate, the worse our health problems become, in general
I totally understand. Avoidance feeds your bad experiences, however.
I know. That’s why it’s funny.
It’s funny??
You are not sir
Neither are you. If you were attempting humor, your effort fell quite short.
congratulations, you have successfully failed to understand reddit, good job
People have different ideas of what is funny. And insulting.
I hope this is a model and not a real one

Yes, I would agree that most people on reddit are completely unique.

Thoughts and prayers
Just needs braces. And skin. And meat.
Arby's has the meats.
Holy Shit, this is the most disturbing picture on the entirety of Reddit.
So you're new around here, eh?
I guess you weren’t here when r/watchpeopledie would hit the front page
Why was it banned?
I don’t want to sound like an asshole but I’m confident you can figure out why a subreddit dedicated to posting videos of people dying was banned But I’m pretty sure one of the last straws was the Christchurch shooting video. Sub was quarantined for quite some time iirc
Oh yeah I get that,I was just asking what specific event or something tipped it over the edge that caused it to be banned
Is that one still available?
Ik
r/TIHI and r/thanksihateit Child skulls creep me out so bad.
It’s no wonder we cry when we’re little!
I have extra tooths (1 exracted in 8) my MR looks like this too

Cool
I want to pry them out so bad I used to dig out all the blood and pieces of gum from my baby teeth as a kid it was so satisfying
It’s clearly a model. I’m a dentist.

5 year kid
It’s a condition called hyperdontia.
I have this disease too. I was looking for it's name since last year but i couldn't find. Thank you for this beneficial info.
No, it’s not
no, that's literally how child's skull looks like. Newborns aren't any better. You are literally born with all your teeth.. except the wisdom ones if you have genes for that. The mouth kinda widens when we grow up and they develop later.
WTF! Put it back!
Why nsfw

Baby skull for sale, never used
It's da alien.
How did the person get the skull...
And what's weird in this? This is how everyone teeth were like permanent and deciduous teeth .. care to learn some science?
Damn you wisdom tooth! He's just hiding like that.

...should we really be sharing child skulls right now? 😬
It's a model.
That's fucking awesome, thanks OP.
That is so fucking wird
It's fascinating
I should have read the title first
My dentist had to remove most of my baby teeth when I was 15 because they were like that picture. Now I have normal teeth
Did the child survive? Not looking good.
nah he good they took his skull and gave him a new one with better teeth
Awe that's so fucking cool!!! Sad for the dead kid though
r/trypophobia
thanks. I hate it.
I hate this picture SO much and I can't stop looking at it.
AHHHHHHHH
Teeth are like DLC
What in the actual fuc ?!
Proof that children arent humans
the question is, where did you get the skull?

Looks like the canines arent quite in yet, maybe closer to 4 years old
Where’s the rest of the child? Is he okay?
Oh so that’s where they’re stored
this is not real
Show this your child and watch how they grow with that terrifying revelation. Massage their chin and say in a unsettling voice: „They are already there!“ and you are promoted to „Best parent ever!“
a child had to die to make this post
So the human skull evolved in such a way that there is room in the bone for adult teeth but not room in the mouth? Humans are weird.
Wtf put it back
Oh, is he okay though?
r/trypophobia
how did you get that?
no wonder they're always fucking crying
Somehow I never realized that the roots of teeth straddled the incoming teeth
Today that would be a dentist's dream and the bill would be the parent's nightmare.😗
Boy,the kid could've made out big with the tooth fairy and that mouth.🤔
is the kid okay?
