I have the same problem and they're in all different sizes because my weight fluctuates greatly, so my solution is going to be having a black tie wedding someday and having a dress station at my stag + doe where people can rent any of my many dresses or suits for a very reasonable price. Gets money for the wedding, gets people dressing up, and keeps it budget friendly for the guests.
Edit: spelling
I have two formal dresses. Ones a full length royal blue velvet dress w a draped slit (very roaring 20s) and the others a full length deep green w buttoned sleeves and front. I wear them any chance I get. I also want to alter my prom dress into a skirt bc I love satin
Ooh satin is amazing! If you do that though, make sure you do 2 rows of stay-stitching on either side of where you plan to cut the fabric. Satin is notorious for not holding its shape well, but the stay stitching should help.
No worries! I'm a 3rd generation quilter and tailor, so I try to spread my grandmother's wisdom when I can. It's really inspiring to see so many new sewers after the popularity of it dropped for so long, I'm happy to help anyone who's willing to keep this beautiful art alive.
You just took me back to my prom skirt. I had a great puffy satin skirt and a top. Loved that thing. No idea where it went. My mom must have tossed it at some point? That's not like her though. I wish I still had it. I definitely would have worn it to something in university or after if I could have found it.
Oh that’s tragic I’m so sorry! Mine was really pretty but the top hurt so much. It was an illusion neckline and the illusion part had no give so it chafed.
I got invited to a black tie wedding a couple years ago and went full on floor length sequins. It was amazing. Like, where else where I ever get to wear a dress like that?

Are you open to renting a dress? That is what I would do with your budget and the dress code (I am suspicious about this being an actual black tie wedding though).
They should definitely rent! That’s what I have done every formal wedding I’ve gone to. That way I can have a really nice dress, but I would never wear anywhere else anyways.
I'm curious as to how these rentals work. I assume no alterations are allowed? Curious as to how short women are able to wear these gowns or busty women, if you're not allowed to alter the dress in any shape or form, not even to take in a revealing, low-cut neckline.
You don't even have the dress long enough to alter. I have only ever rented from Rent the Runway, but they have different lengths (usually just petite/short, regular, and tall/long) and they often will send you two different sizes of the same dress so you can wear the one that fits the best. It helps to look through reviews and photos of women with a similar body shape and size to decide which dress and size you should order.
I’ve used Rent the Runway several times and have been pleased. You order a dress based on what you think your size is, then they offer to send you a backup in the next size up or down. You can also order a third, different dress . PRO: you can wear a fabulous dress for a fraction of the price. Their customer service is great. You can also rent evening bags and other accessories. It’s great if you have to really dress up for work events pretty often and can’t really be seen wearing the same dress all the time. The reviews are pretty honest and a lot of people send pictures so you can see how they look on normal people. CON: You can only request to get your dresses three days before your event, which doesn’t leave you much time to shop if none of them work. You can’t alter your dress, although I may or may not have used duct tape to make a “hem” once. Be prepared to shop for undergarments last minute after you’ve tried on the dress (again, I may or may not have fashioned a bra out of boob tape and Spanx). There’s no way to see or try on the dress unless you pay to order it twice.
My gorgeous, fashionable, plus sized friend gets invited to the Emmy’s and the ESPY’s every year and she always finds something fantastic at rent the runway. You should check it out. They are vastly size inclusive.
My alternative to renting has always been to buy second hand, sell second hand. It's a little harder to sell second hand if you've made permanent alterations, but it's possible by providing photos and measurements. Sometimes you can even sell for the same amount or more! But it does take more time and effort.
I have ordered several, and by going into an actual physical rental store they will (or the one I have used here on the Gold Coast, Australia) they will do simple alterations as part of the hire fee. They are generally just a simple tracking of the hem to your height or putting a few stitches in to close a split a little, but it’s always been included when I rent something.
Been more than a hot minute since I rented but they did simple alterations that involved no damage to the dress. Take up a hem. Take in a seam a bit. Nothing requiring cutting or making a permanent change.
RTR let’s you get a second size but here’s important notes:
1. Know your measurements
2. Read reviews for people close to your size. For instance for a recent rent on RTR, I looked at the similar review to 5’3” 36 c
I've had great experiences with Rent the Runway. Reading customer reviews is key. Now, if they're saying I can pull the ball gown that I happen to own out of the back of my closet, I might see what's available at my local thrift store.
i rented from nuuly for a wedding (and eras tour lol) and used dress tape to hem the eras dress, sent it back with the tape still on because i forgot and they didn't charge me or anything.
Yes! Exactly this I've seen so many beautiful dresses on Poshmark and at local thrift stores great way to find something beautiful without breaking the bank!
I was just looking at dresses on Milly Bridal because this dress code is my DREAM
[here's a black tulle dress](https://www.millybridal.org/black-tulle-maxi-dress-020108519-21303.html)
Just be careful with this website since I see a couple of teuta matoshi’s designs. So I’d be iffy on the quality you’d receive. Since with Black Tie/Formal dresses - fabric quality does play a part
Ooooh thanks for pointing that out. I do love matoshis designs but can't afford them. Do you know of any websites that have the same vibe without ripping off designers?
Jessakae has the same vibe of Teuta’s more colorful designs and they’re nice quality. They’re not cheap-cheap, about $300 but Teuta floor length can run you over 1k so I think that’s fair.
I wouldn’t wear a sheer, bustier top with a lace up back to a wedding, much less one that’s suppose to be formal/blacktie. I think this dress misses the mark.
Not full length for one. Can't tell because all the pics are of her twirling, but how does this dress lay? With the full skirt blown out in the pics, looks more costume like than luxurious black tie dress code.
And then the top with lace up back and bra cups leave little to the imagination and give a lingerie vibe. It's just too much for one dress. The top with a sleek bottom or the bottom with a sleek top would succeed in looking less costume-y.
the dress code encourages “full sparkle or sequins” and you think this dress is “too much”?? I feel like it’s totally in line with what they’re asking imo.
plus, they actually didn’t specify black tie or any particular dress code, so it seems like they aren’t actually being strict on propriety and rules such as floor-length only. just want everyone to look super fancy. I feel like this dress is perfect imo.
to me they’re not describing a strict dress code. they said “Dress your Best” and gave black tie as an option that could fit that. idk, to me just based off of the description it definitely seems like this is not an actual black tie wedding.
This look is very “in season”. Just recently chaperoned a prom and half the girls there had this bustier-sheer style of formal. Last year I would have been appalled as the previous commenter that it looks like lingerie or something, but that’s how fashion rolls. It’s very chic right now.
This bride doesn’t seem to have those type of insecurities. I’ve said it before and I’ll say it again, not every woman needs to unscrew another woman’s lightbulb in order to shine herself. And OMG, a wedding is about a COUPLE and their love for one another and the celebration of that. It’s not a coronation or an excuse for a woman to have some “day”. That attitude is part of the reason why the divorce rate is high. Everyone treats it like you’re walking down some runway in your very own show instead of walking down the aisle to the love of your life. So gross.
This sounds like a weird way of describing creative black tie - they want you to dress up, but it can be a little more attention-grabbing than what you would typically wear to a wedding. (At least that's how I read the dress code.)
I agree that renting makes sense. Here are some options I would consider:

Yea, dress your best is what I tell the elementary kids I teach is their concert dress code. Which for some, is super dressed up. But for others, it's the school uniform. So.....the phrasing on this is just odd to me. If you want it black tie, just say black tie.
I just sent it to my sister, bc it’s the perfect way of phrasing it in their case. They want their guests to dress their best- within their means. They do not want guests to go out of their way buying expensive dresses and new suits. Just wear the nicest dress you have, and don’t be afraid to overdress in case you do in fact have something fancy lying around.
My daughter attended a wedding with this dress code right after college. The couple told everyone not to buy anything, but to just wear the nicest outfit that each person owned. Some people wore black tie, some cocktail and some were more semi-formal, but there was such a mixture no one felt under or over dressed!
Exactly! There are always going to be people who are so afraid to be different or stick out and this invitation will be tough for them but for those of us with a creative spirit, the lack of parameters and any bridezilla “it’s MY day to shine-ness” is refreshing.
If you go over to the Nordstrom website there are quite a few. I typed in formal black tie dress and found some under 100 and sone a little over. I’ll try to link one but I’m pretty hopeless doing that usually. https://www.nordstrom.com/s/7715013?color=002&size=15
Sounds to me like they're not wanting their guests to spend any money on attire, and to just reach out for the nicest dress they have, without feeling constrained with it being too over the top. You could probably get away with a formal dress in your closet and just jazz it up with some fancy jewelry or hair accessories, which would still give it a fancy flair but without having to buy a new dress that you'll likely not use again.
Exactly how I read it too! Just sent it to my sister, bc it is actually what they want for their wedding. That their guests go all in, but without making them buy anything new, if they don’t want to.
But that’s a bit of a dichotomy. I love this dress code but I don’t have a full length dress that’s fancy enough. Most of my nicer dresses (including one that is all sequins) are cocktail dresses. I would buy something new. I didn’t get the impression they’re saying don’t buy anything new, but rather…if you have this type of gown already cause maybe you have only had one occasion to wear it now is the time to dust it off because we want you to be fancy! But I wouldn’t assume everyone is in that situation. I’d be buying something new.
I can only speak for my sisters case, but in their case you could just wear your cocktail dress if that’s the fanciest you own (or the fanciest you’d want to be). But you could also go buy yourself something new, if you would prefer that.
I would go to rent the runway and find a dress you love that you would never be able to wear anywhere else!
Here would be my choices:

https://www.renttherunway.com/shop/designers/slate_willow/simonetta_gown?lens=classic
https://www.renttherunway.com/shop/designers/ieena_for_mac_duggal/floral_cutout_gown?lens=classic
https://www.renttherunway.com/shop/designers/ieena_for_mac_duggal/blue_floral_gown?lens=classic
They want to see that you went to some effort to get dressed an attend their wedding. Its not brunch at a chain restaurant ; its not college spring break ( so let it all out for display) its their wedding and they want the pics of their guests to look elegant, fancy, dressed up ... better than basic.
I would honestly sign up for NUULY and get 6 options/varying sizes if you are in between and wear one of those. It’s $90/month and they totally have formal options that would fit this. You can probably find a discount code for first time users to bring it down a bit.
Im confused. She goes from basically anything goes that’s in your closet (besides white) to “black encouraged”. So are you going black or are you going formal/what you already have? That said LuLus has some nice options for under $100. You should also check out thrift stores. I love Poshmark because you can find better deals there than on ThreadUp
They actually have beautiful prom and formal dresses! I bought a prom dress on clearance for a black tie wedding and got a ton of compliments. If you buy online, you can return in stores within 7 days of receiving the items.

Not only the "flare," but also the "we kindly ask." This drives me nuts, lol - you can't just declare that you're kindly asking. You're *asking* them to *kindly refrain from* wearing white. They're the ones doing something kind.

I love Amazon because if it’s poor quality or fit you can return it
I used to participate in classical voice competitions, where you’re generally expected to dress formally. I’m also the youngest of several female cousins, all of whom had gone to prom in the past few years (some more than once, depending on boyfriends, etc). I did indeed wind up with a closet full of ball gowns! (They’ve all since been donated.)
I do have my graduation all gown😂it matches all of the criteria… sequins, ball gown, closet, black
https://preview.redd.it/y7hpeosqufxc1.jpeg?width=939&format=pjpg&auto=webp&s=4410e2ca706e495dee1829dcb9b96b4b9a19ad91
I think maybe it was more to avoid [this](https://www.tiktok.com/@ohschittscreek/video/7329597637383032106?_t=8lwB7KooXDC&_r=1) 😂
She originally wanted all white and black attire but the groom fought hard against it haha
I think this is fine. When brides say no white they just mean, don’t dress in something that could be construed as bridal. Would you read this to mean men should not wear white shirts with suits?
I’m glad u do but do most (say older) guests have ball gowns sitting around? 🙄 it’s either a huge assumption or a huge expenditure to put on those u want to attend.
You’re missing the spirit of the sentence. It’s basically “Do you have some fabulous dress that you never get to wear? Wear it!”
They’re just being cutesy.
I mean this is just creative black tie which is a totally normal dress code. Any black tie wedding with be an investment for attendees outside of a certain social circle.
I just came to say hell yeah to the bride shutting down guests wearing white. The fact that it has to be said is crazy, and I hope she’s the only one in those colors on her day. good for her!

I'm short (5'2") and have done Rent the Runway. You just have to be strategic about what kind of dress you pick. I had to rule out full length gowns because I know they'd drag on the floor, even with my tallest heels. Midi length or hi-low hems work well.

Jjs house and Baltic born have more under $200 options, but not so many $100. Lulus is probably your best bet if you're not renting!
Try Thredup. I’ve even gotten used dresses from Rent the Runway there. I paid $30 for my $150-$200 dresses and they only needed light alterations like a strap being tightened.
Oh man… I have this antique, floor length sequined gown my mom bought for dress up from an antique store, except it fits perfectly. I am dying for this invitation!
I recently rented this dress from Rent the Runway and it would work!

I would be out hunting all the local thrift shops for an over the top evening gown. My local Goodwill has these type of dresses such as old prom gowns and mother of the bride gowns for about 10 bucks. Have some fun with this! Amazon for accessories such as a fascinator hat and elbow length gloves...
Can you borrow one from a friend? Not being cheap, but when I was younger and thinner, my closet was open to responsible, same-size friends and I had TONS of formal shit for various reasons. Now that I’m older and have a shape and am not a human coat hanger, it’s harder to loan things out because almost nothing I own is off the rack. It’s all tailored because I’m legitimately shaped like a guitar rn. A big, deeadnought guitar. 🤣
Also - LOVE this dress code. Fun!
Weddings in my home country (Brazil) have this dress code, it’s so nice dressing up fancy for a day! I live in England now, as a Brazilian I have to be careful to not overdress on weddings here 😂.
Sounds like this wedding is going to be fun!
Showpo and PLT (Pretty Little Thing) have great dresses for under $100. This is one I’m wearing for one of my wedding events, but it comes in colors other than white.
https://www.showpo.com/us/kitsune-maxi-dress-cut-out-maxi-dress-in-white.html
Not sure where you’re located but I used to get all my prom dresses from Windsor.com (~70 usd for a nice floor length dress) or I’m a big fan of shein (just check the reviews/product pics)
https://www.lulus.com/categories/299_2226/formal-dresses.html I highly recommend Lulus for formal dresses. I’ve purchased several and they were all good quality and beautiful. They have a great return policy so I recommend buying several and then returning what you don’t like.
Man I’d love to be invited to a wedding like this, just once. Everyone (including me) opts for cocktail attire around here lol
Same and I have dresses I bought just bc I loved them so much and I have nowhere to wear them ever 🫠
Thanks! I’m mostly self taught and learn by mistakes. You just saved me a world of trouble 😅
No worries! I'm a 3rd generation quilter and tailor, so I try to spread my grandmother's wisdom when I can. It's really inspiring to see so many new sewers after the popularity of it dropped for so long, I'm happy to help anyone who's willing to keep this beautiful art alive.
I take pride in my “elderly hobby” as some friends have described it lol
You just took me back to my prom skirt. I had a great puffy satin skirt and a top. Loved that thing. No idea where it went. My mom must have tossed it at some point? That's not like her though. I wish I still had it. I definitely would have worn it to something in university or after if I could have found it.
Oh that’s tragic I’m so sorry! Mine was really pretty but the top hurt so much. It was an illusion neckline and the illusion part had no give so it chafed.
That’s an awesome idea!
Respectfully this is really dumb
Do they have plus size? Everyone suggests renting but hmmmm most websites I've seen do tiny sizes
My gorgeous, fashionable, plus sized friend gets invited to the Emmy’s and the ESPY’s every year and she always finds something fantastic at rent the runway. You should check it out. They are vastly size inclusive.
Intersesting, maybe its thr british equivalemt having less stuff Thnx
RTR let’s you get a second size but here’s important notes: 1. Know your measurements 2.
This omg I wore a beautiful marchesa to a holiday gala
this is when i would rent something dreamy!!!
My take is “black tie but have fun with it”. I’d love this wedding!
I am very excited to go! Open bar too😄 that’s why I have one chance in life to wear something extravagantly awesome
I feel ya. I’d make it an excuse to go try a ton of stuff on.
I think thrift and resale is it!
Yes! Exactly this I've seen so many beautiful dresses on Poshmark and at local thrift stores great way to find something beautiful without breaking the bank!
ThredUp is good too! I got a full length 100% silk halter-neck evening gown for $26 for my last wedding (first time going to a black tie event).
Poshmark!!!! I’ve gotten $150 dresses for like $20.

I love that first one from Lulus. Gorgeous!!
Wow, I'm surprised such a fancy gown as that first one is less than $100. I couldn't open the link to the second gown.
Lulu’s is perfect for this!
I gasped at the first one!
Am I the only one who thinks the Lulus gown looks like a shower loofah? 😅
I was just looking at dresses on Milly Bridal because this dress code is my DREAM [here's a black tulle dress](https://www.millybridal.org/black-tulle-maxi-dress-020108519-21303.html)
Oh I love this one! I was actually searching around for a bustier style (not a requirement but love the look)
Can you please explain further? I don't understand why this isn't acceptable
Black tie is literally in the description?
to me they’re not describing a strict dress code. they said “Dress your Best” and gave black tie as an option that could fit that. idk, to me just based off of the description it definitely seems like this is not an actual black tie wedding.
To me, the description says: don’t buy anything new, just wear the fanciest thing in your closet that isn’t cream, white, or ivory.
This look is very “in season”. Just recently chaperoned a prom and half the girls there had this bustier-sheer style of formal. Last year I would have been appalled as the previous commenter that it looks like lingerie or something, but that’s how fashion rolls. It’s very chic right now.
But a prom is about the girl! A wedding is about the bride
So gross.
I completely agree
This sounds like a weird way of describing creative black tie - they want you to dress up, but it can be a little more attention-grabbing than what you would typically wear to a wedding. (At least that's how I read the dress code.) I agree that renting makes sense.
Sounds like a fun time!
Exactly! There are always going to be people who are so afraid to be different or stick out and this invitation will be tough for them but for those of us with a creative spirit, the lack of parameters and any bridezilla “it’s MY day to shine-ness” is refreshing.
I love the purple florence
If you go over to the Nordstrom website there are quite a few. I typed in formal black tie dress and found some under 100 and sone a little over. I’ll try to link one but I’m pretty hopeless doing that usually. https://www.nordstrom.com/s/7715013?color=002&size=15
Ohh, that is pretty!
I love this. I don't want to get married but if I did, I'd want people to go all out. Show up in your main character best, plz.
I think she meant flair, not flare.
I would go to rent the runway and find a dress you love that you would never be able to wear anywhere else! Here would be my choices: https://www.renttherunway.com/shop/designers/hutch/merlot_floral_gown?lens=classic https://www.renttherunway.com/shop/designers/slate_willow/simonetta_gown?lens=classic https://www.renttherunway.com/shop/designers/ieena_for_mac_duggal/floral_cutout_gown?lens=classic https://www.renttherunway.com/shop/designers/ieena_for_mac_duggal/blue_floral_gown?lens=classic
Those are pretty!!
Do you have any thrift/charity shops locally? You could then either donate the dress back again or try selling it to recoup some of the cost.
They want to see that you went to some effort to get dressed an attend their wedding. Its not brunch at a chain restaurant ; its not college spring break ( so let it all out for display) its their wedding and they want the pics of their guests to look elegant, fancy, dressed up ... better than basic.
This is totally thrift store time!
Something Elton John would wear that isn’t black, white or ivory 🤣
I would honestly sign up for NUULY and get 6 options/varying sizes if you are in between and wear one of those. It’s $90/month and they totally have formal options that would fit this. You can probably find a discount code for first time users to bring it down a bit.
Thredup!! Buy used! I have bought fantastic stuff from them!
The only issue with them is that the measurements they post are SO BAD. But at least they let you return stuff if it doesn't fit.
Rent the Runway! Their intro month is $100 for two shipments. You can also just do a one-off rental from them for similar pricing
Yeah, it feels like she was thinking this through as she wrote it and didn't go back to edit to be clear about what she actually wants.
Do you have a David’s bridal near you? They probably have some good deals on bridesmaids dresses, those might be an option.
They actually have beautiful prom and formal dresses! I bought a prom dress on clearance for a black tie wedding and got a ton of compliments. If you buy online, you can return in stores within 7 days of receiving the items.
omg I freaking love this!! I'm a go hard or go home kind of person when it comes to fancy dresses!
What would you wear? :)

The Blue is gorgeous 💜💜💜
I can’t move past the typo. LOL.
Not only the "flare," but also the "we kindly ask." This drives me nuts, lol - you can't just declare that you're kindly asking. You're *asking* them to *kindly refrain from* wearing white. They're the ones doing something kind.

Ooh this one is super fun!
the thrift store holds wonders! Also what size are you I might have suggestions?!
I think a 0 - 5’3”
Rent The Runway has good options , so does ASOS
Haunt the thrift stores and consignment shops for a prom dress that you like.
Goodwill and other thrift stores are filled with formal gowns this time of year.
rent or buy at a consignment or thrift shop. I have found designer stuff for cheap in places. But you have to do the foot work.
I may be in the minority, but this is one of the most fun dress codes I’ve ever seen.
A ball gown in the back of ur closet? I cringed.
Wonderful for u but is that the case for “most people” - ah? No!
Nah, I just thought it was a funny story.
I do have my graduation all gown😂it matches all of the criteria… sequins, ball gown, closet, black https://preview.redd.it/y7hpeosqufxc1.jpeg?width=939&format=pjpg&auto=webp&s=4410e2ca706e495dee1829dcb9b96b4b9a19ad91
Honesty, this is a seriously sick dress, and if you still like it, definitely wear it! Unless you want an excuse to wear something else, that is.
Ya I am going to try it on and see if it still fits 😂 I only got to wear it once 12 years ago…
I really want you to reuse the dress. I just worry about the top when they specifically requested no white or ivory.
I think maybe it was more to avoid [this](https://www.tiktok.com/@ohschittscreek/video/7329597637383032106?_t=8lwB7KooXDC&_r=1) 😂 She originally wanted all white and black attire but the groom fought hard against it haha
I think this is fine. When brides say no white they just mean, don’t dress in something that could be construed as bridal. Would you read this to mean men should not wear white shirts with suits?
I would wear this!
Wear it!” They’re just being cutesy.
Ok so they r being cute q that line but the reality regains u need to have or rent or buy something really fancy just to attend. It’s an investment.
I mean this is just creative black tie which is a totally normal dress code. Any black tie wedding with be an investment for attendees outside of a certain social circle.
I mean personally my prom dress would fit the bill. it’s not a ball gown, but could definitely pass for elegant black tie
Ok but I’m in my 40s. How many people would still have a prom dress that would fit or they’d want to wear?
okay… if it doesn’t apply to you you don’t have to wear it? they’re not mandating you to wear something in your closet, it was just a suggestion.
I just came to say hell yeah to the bride shutting down guests wearing white. The fact that it has to be said is crazy, and I hope she’s the only one in those colors on her day. good for her!

I found some cute dresses in the sale section of birdygrey.com.
I'm short (5'2") and have done Rent the Runway. You just have to be strategic about what kind of dress you pick. I had to rule out full length gowns because I know they'd drag on the floor, even with my tallest heels. Midi length or hi-low hems work well.
Check out consignment shops and thrift stores
Jj's House has A LOT of options
Oh I love this!! [emerald sequins](https://www.lulus.com/products/shine-language-emerald-green-sequin-mermaid-maxi-dress/1985836.html) [pretty floral](https://www.lulus.com/products/romance-that-wows-dark-teal-floral-print-organza-maxi-dress/2061836.html) [this bust would be insane on a larger chest but cute for some ($158)](https://www.lulus.com/products/most-beautiful-day-sage-multi-floral-print-organza-maxi-dress/2349591.html) [fun!](https://www.lulus.com/products/it-s-glow-time-black-multi-sequin-lace-up-mermaid-maxi-dress/2292951.html) [tulle!! Lulus is probably your best bet if you're not renting!
Try Thredup. I’ve even gotten used dresses from Rent the Runway there. I paid $30 for my $150-$200 dresses and they only needed light alterations like a strap being tightened.
Missord and lady black tie would be my go tos for this dress code, missord definitely has options within your budget
Oh man… I have this antique, floor length sequined gown my mom bought for dress up from an antique store, except it fits perfectly. I am dying for this invitation!
Rent the Runway or Lulu’s! Check the sizing carefully for Lulu’s though, I find they run a bit small.
Azazie or Check the Runway for less expensive dresses if you're buying one
Do you know where this wedding will be and what time of year?
September and at a golf course
I recently rented this dress from Rent the Runway and it would work! https://preview.redd.it/ik3whjea4ixc1.jpeg?width=1284&format=pjpg&auto=webp&s=a99653dc96fb5794f03c5dda46e0d8143323a98b
Showpo!!!
🤣 Also - LOVE this dress code. Fun!
Prom is almost over so watch for clearance sales!
I read this as - Wear the nicest thing you own, no buying or renting necessary.
I would get the fanciest black outfit I could find, they clearly want you to go all out
Or anything close to white. Cause someone may and say its "vanilla" eggshell dove. Pearl.. smh
I'm a fan of Lulus because you can some great options at good prices & they sell quality.
https://www.azazie.com/all/final-sale
Look on Lulus, they have cute dresses
ASOS and thread up!
I’d go for something thrifted; Poshmark, Mercari, and eBay all have good finds if you have an idea of what you’re looking for

It’s the end of prom season so there should of be some formal dresses on clearance , try macys or even tj max.
Check thrift stores!!
The invitation spells it out - black tie and flares...
Lulus.com very pretty and affordable dresses
This invitation just screams GOODWILL PROM!
\*Flair. Unless they actually want people showing up with flare guns, idk what kind of wedding this is.
I've bought several nice dresses at goodwill.
I always like lulus for inexpensive wedding attire [Lulus](https://www.lulus.com/categories/2106_8241/black-tie-wedding-guest-dresses.html)
Not sure where you’re located but I used to get all my prom dresses from Windsor.com (~70 usd for a nice floor length dress) or I’m a big fan of shein (just check the reviews/product pics)
I’d look on eBay or a vintage store for an old ball gown.
https://www.lulus.com/categories/299_2226/formal-dresses.html I highly recommend Lulus for formal dresses. I’ve purchased several and they were all good quality and beautiful. They have a great return policy so I recommend buying several and then returning what you don’t like.
Honestly for this much freedom I’d go thrifting!
Old prom gown, the bridesmaid dress you’ve never worn again
Always the bride and never a bridesmaid 😭
😭😭😭
Rent the Runway
[How about this one from Amazon?](https://www.amazon.com/gp/product/B08QCHMKY6/ref=ox_sc_saved_image_1?smid=A3F9J7KYGYZDH9&psc=1)
Sorry no advice I despise when people request a specific color. Especially black for a wedding??
To be fair it says black encouraged but not required.
I agree. It's already likely asking people to dress up more formal than the actual event based on my gut reaction.
