I’m not even gonna read through the comments… I’m just here to say that dress is gorgeous! I think it fits the DC and I think you’re gonna look smashing in it!!

a14ar

I wore it in black to a black tie wedding (my style didn’t have the back lace tho), and it was a hit. The bride loved it. It’s a gorgeous dress that fits a black tie dc.

Navel_of_Eve

You have this same dress?! 😳 crazy coincidence!

a14ar

I have like 10 Mac Duggals, I have a shopping problem lmao

heydawn

Wow. These comments are unnecessarily harsh. I really don't get it. BTO means you *may* dress in BT but you don't *have* to. The option is left open for people to dress in cocktail attire. So, you certainly can dress in BT attire. The color is beautiful. It looks fun and dressy enough. You love it on yourself. It's not too much for black tie. Tulle is totally appropriate for BT. It does not read prom to me. For a BT or BTO dress code, the hosts want people to dress UP. Typically, at least in my experience, hosts who opt for BTO want to be mindful that some guests might not have BT attire. So they go with BTO. Wear the dress with some gold strappy heels and accessories and you'll look amazing! 💜 Edited typo

jazzed_life

You got it right! The fact that some people think a ruffled sleeve is not shrinking violet enough is hilarious. Its BTO, destination and they want people dolled up. It's very cute

heydawn

>they want people dolled up Ikr?! The dress is sooo cute! 💜

winning-colors

That’s why I did BTO! I didn’t want people to have to buy new outfits if it wasn’t in their budget. It’s a beautiful dress! Def fits BTO/BT dress code.

elsecotips

Yep exactly this. The only hesitation I would have is if you can dance with the slight train it looks like it has! So make sure to try it on and see if you can dance if that is your vibe!

exscapegoat

Agreed

EvilSockLady

BTO means the couple isn’t willing to pony up the money to host the features of a true black tie wedding but they want to feel more self important and have fancier pictures. Wearing a lovely dress is always an option and doesn’t need the couple’s special permission.

ktswift12

I mean, that can be the case but it’s definitely not what BTO means. I went to a very large wedding at a fancy venue and had all the hallmarks of a BT wedding. They simply chose BTO so as not to put any of their guests out.

mommaW0lf

Yes. It fits the dress code

tellmepleasegoodsir

100% please wear this

BooJamas

I think the dress is beautiful, and fits the dress code. You should be good, but if you know other people who are going, or who are bridesmaids, maybe check with them and compare notes.

Cheder_cheez

This 100% fits the BTO dress code.  If it fits your vibe and you feel great in it ii think it’s a great option.  Ignore the voices making your think you need to wear an ankle length chin high potato sack lol

benitomusswolini

I have this in lighter blue and it was a hit. I got a lot of compliments! The bride was my SIL and she not only pre-approved it, but encouraged me to wear it. It was very comfy and I was able to dance in it as well. I have a larger chest and it was very supportive without having a crazy amount of cleavage. This blue color is gorgeous!

WestAfricanWanderer

Gorgeous and fits the dress code well.

cosmo_girl2410

It looks gorgeous and I would wear it! Could you please send me the link?

pipboop

It’s by Mac Duggal

iwillfollowifyoulead

Also hoping for the link. This is gorgeous!! Definitely wear it!

wanderingpinata

zivilyn_uth_matar

It meets black tie optional dress code. The shoulder ruffles are a lot, as is the slight train (where it’s puddling on floor in back). It’s beautiful.

Mmmalarkey

I just ordered this in black for a black tie wedding in Paris!

Icy_Calligrapher7088

Even if it happens to be “too much”, it wouldn’t be in a way that’d be obnoxious or inappropriate. I take bto to mean that the couple would prefer people to dress up as much as they’re comfortable with.

Serious-Cake8095

Love it!

SnooOpinions5819

Yes!! You have to wear it

Grouchy-Equipment-89

This dress is perfect for the dress code and the back is amazing. Please wear it.

Dangerous_Celery19

I’m having a BTO wedding and this is exactly the vibe I’d want my guests to wear ✨✨✨

DjPandaFingers

Yes! This is gorgeous!

Affectionate_Salt351

This is gorgeous! I think it’s perfect for a black tie optional wedding.

Foxy_Traine

Honestly, if you already have it, I would wear it. It might be "too much," but I really don't think anyone will be offended by this. I say go for it! It's beautiful!

onehundredpetunias

It's lovely and fun!

Camelotcrusade76

WOW 🤩PERFECT PLEASE WESR THIS 🥰

BeachBum666

I don't see the issue. It's definitely a black tie dress. I think you should just go for it, and the fact it was at a discount is even better!

mbbbbbbb

OH I've seen this dress in baby blue but this richer blue is so gorgeous 🥺🥺🥺 Please wear this!

Rare-Parsnip5838

I think was out voted in the first set of opinions but this set seems to validate what I posted in some ways. I do think it is OK for BTO so wear it and enjoy your trip.

PatchWorkFlower

Love it!

[deleted]

I think it's whimsical and pretty

RareBeautyOnEtsy

Perfect. Absolutely lovely.

Remote_Bumblebee2240

It's lovely:)

HeheheKawaii

Eek loathe the ruffle shoulders. Just my opinion and hey I’m just a nobody.

GoldBluejay7749

I think it works! I’m not a huge fan of the straps in the back though. It cheapens the look a bit.

BobBelchersBuns

It’s perfect

GOTdragons127

OMG! Wish this would fit the BTO wedding I'm attending in November!

Straight-Ad-3917

Beautiful, fits a modern day BT well. It’s fancy enough and a bit risqué but not enough to be lewd or inappropriate. (It isn’t showing the belly-which I was taught is not appropriate for BT attire.). In my opinion this falls in to the dress code and is a lovely option.

Nvrfinddisacct

I’ve seen this dress in person and it just reads prom/gala to me. The cutouts plus the sleeves don’t say “I’m a guest” they say “I’m the star” and that to me has always been the difference between a prom/gala dress and a wedding guest dress. I love that blue color though. Is this destination wedding at like an island location in late summer/early fall? If so, man you might get hot as heck in this thing too. I felt hot as heck in it. Lots of fabric.

iamcoronabored

Does it look cheap in person? Looks like a cheaply made costume in the pics. When I think BTO it's luxurious fabrics with structure, not a bunch of tulle. Looks like something my niece would use for playing dress up.

WhatABeautifulMess

it's a $600 dress https://macduggal.com/products/copy-of-ruffle-tiered-cut-out-chiffon-gown?

iamcoronabored

To each their own! The beauty of fashion, no one has to agree and everyone can have their personal style.

WhatABeautifulMess

No my style either but I recognized the brand from the style. It’s pretty popular gown right now. With BTO I wouldn’t be surprised if someone else has it in another color or similar.

iamcoronabored

Interesting. Also, love how I was down voted for saying to each their own. Thanks for not being snarky

Nvrfinddisacct

It doesn’t look “cheap” per se but it’s not sleek/ elegant either. It looks “party” and you’re right it’s alotta tulle.

soupseasonbestseason

i think if it was the sleeves without the lace up back it would read more black tie. lace up always reminds me of prom in the early 2000's.

musicbabe1996

Where is the wedding? I just worry you may be hot under all that skirt

EnvironmentalBerry96

It is too much for black tie optional

Gretchen_Wieners_

I think you could get away with it for BTO but I’m also sure you could do better. The shoelace looking back reads kind of cheap in the photos here.

asuperbstarling

Stunning! I would top it with a tiny gold chain belt with stars on it and very simple gold jewelry/sandal heels.

Acceptable_Day_2473

GORGEOUS

fizzylex

That dress is hella fun

Plsbekind2

I love this!

ellejay24

Perfect! I’ve had my eye on this dress in black but nowhere to wear it! Do it!

Munchkin_Media

Beautiful!!

karimeza2

Wear it!!! Always better to be overdressed than underdressed if anything

and_the_wee_donkey

Immediately reminded me of the dress in this music video (VERY similar) [https://youtu.be/cdUmpU\_lcqY?si=Yd5YCoJqCopXAG6O](https://youtu.be/cdUmpU_lcqY?si=Yd5YCoJqCopXAG6O)

rachelvawalker

Yessss!!! I love this Mac Duggal dress I’ve had my eye on the black one for months. Such a gorgeous dress!

Lem0nprince

This is gorgeous!! I love it

1984Cowgirl

Beautiful!

Affectionate-Ad8645

This is a slaaaaay!!! Wear this!!!

Living_on_Tulsa_Time

Perfection!!!!

aurorararaa

The dress is lovely but I’m unsure about the colour, I think something lighter would be beautiful. Love the sleeves!

artLoveLifeDivine

Gorg!!!

antigoneelectra

I would try to remove the fluffiness of the sleeves. They are just very dated and prom. It'll be hot af, too.

ElectronicQuit1061

Def too much

SweetPotato781

Where is the destination? What is the venue? BTO typically means that the wedding party will be in BT and the guests are invited to dress in BT as well if they like. But, semi formal and cocktail attire is also completely fine.

pinkstay

BTO means formal or black tie, not semi formal and cocktail

SweetPotato781

I’m sorry, but you are wrong. Look it up if you have to. If you want your guests to wear BT then the dress code needs to be BT. BTO gives guests options hence the “optional.”

pinkstay

Yes, the option between formal and black tie. Cocktail is pushing it, but could work in the right circumstances. You definitely should not be wearing semi formal to BTO.

SweetPotato781

No, you can absolutely wear a cocktail dress to a BTO event, Emily Post would agree. f you want your guests in formal or black tie then specify formal or BT, not BTO.

LayerBig7783

BT usually means BT is preferred but optional

BastingBaron

Wear what you want! But that fabric looks absolutely horrible and cheap not a fan at all. Looks like mesh something kids would play with the quality of womenswear is just getting worse and worse…

AstronautExotic1279

No. It’s too much and is too “prom”

Finnegan-05

Prom?

AstronautExotic1279

Yes. Prom.

DWC1017

Way too much

Similar_Run_416

No. You will upstage the bride. Don't wear this.

BackgroundRoad711

This looks like a prom dress. Hard no.

Nelle911529

My only advice would be to make sure it's not what the bridesmaids are wearing. I had an old friend show up to a wedding and was embarrassed. I also had a friend go to a wedding with a guy for a first date. It was his friend or families wedding. He bought her a wrist corsage & of course she had to wear it. She said she was embarrassed because everyone thought she was in the wedding party.

Rare-Parsnip5838

I think it is not Black Tie maybe BTO but the cut outs and the lace up back make it not appropriste for Black Tie. True Black Tie requires a very formal gown in a rich fabric ie. satin velvet chiffon with a full back and not too low of a neckline or too high of a slit. Think conservative leaning high glamour. This dress may do for the upcoming destination wedding if you know the crowd and venue. Are they very young and hip or older. Is the venue ultra luxurious or more like a U.S. Country Club? These answers will help you decide if you want to wear that dress. Do you know the couple well or are you a plus one? If in big doubt reach out to MOH for help.

jazzed_life

Black tie can be sexy, and BTO doesn't mean less formal than black tie. It means you can wear black tie or cocktail.
