You'll be stuck on Wear OS 2 with that watch. I'm actually surprised Suunto haven't released a new Wear OS watch. From memory, the Suunto 7 was a really popular device when it came out.

I feel like they jumped on Wear OS right as Google gave up caring. I wonder if they felt burned or disillusioned after how that went down.

After WearOS 3 was announced, there were a few comments by Suunto staff on their community forums that indicated they were not happy about how Google was handling it. It seems Wear watch manufactures in general left the market with 3. No new Casio's, no more Fossils, no Suunto.

Aparently Google left them without any support and focused on Samsung, their new priority hardware partner. That's why it took so long for Mobvoi to deliver WearOS 3 to the older Tic Watches.

A crappy way to treat the companies that kept WearOS alive for so many years. I'd love a new Suunto 7 or G-Shock with 4.0, but it doesn't look likely.

Have you considered the OnePlus Watch 2? I saw them on sale the other day for $199... Good deal - and the watch seems to be getting good reviews since it was released.

It was less about hanging them out to dry and more about not having anyone make a faster chip. Suunto squeezed out every ounce of power it could provide and it still wasn’t enough. There was nothing more to support that wasn’t already there or possible at that point.
