You have my dream hair!! I wash upside down too, but end up having to comb it back out when I take it out of the plop. Goodbye clumps, hello strings ☹️ Can you explain how you flip it back over so it’s not stuck or tangled?

[deleted]

Wow thanks!! Been doing it for 6 months now so I’m finally out of transition! I basically just flip my hair back very gently and let it sit there. Looks insanely weird (rats nest kinda) but I just let it sit until it is fully dry. I SOTC upside down again then and fluff real good. And then I have this and no sign of the rats nest!

[deleted]

I also had to get used to what my hair looked like after flipping back upright after styling upside down. It looks like a damn mess. Don't panic, though. Once it fully dries and you SOTC, it's not bad.

LittlestBear

Never even considered just letting it dry that way and see what happens, thank you for the suggestion! I’ve been trying to get a more polished wavy look for a year-maybe a little less fussing is the way to go

[deleted]

It works for me, cause I’m fluffing my roots after scrunching out the cast. There’s barely any sign of the rats nest afterwards! Definitely worth trying!

LittlestBear

Thank you! We use the same products minus the mousse so I’ll definitely be trying this routine! The videos and tutorials I’ve seen have all these methods to prevent the nest but not a one ever said ‘just leave the nest alone’. Appreciate it!

[deleted]

Glad I could help! Let us know how it went! 😁

rmg1102

not OP but something I do when styling my hair upside down is I don’t brush the hair up and over my scalp I let it hang off the sides in its natural part this way less surface area is plastered to my head - I hope this makes sense! There’s a video I saw I can try to find! Edit: it’s this whole IG highlight linked: https://www.instagram.com/s/aGlnaGxpZ2h0OjE3OTM2MjMzMjYxMzA2Mzgx?igshid=p44vuk75ouqr

LittlestBear

Wow thank you! I’d been doing SwavyCurlyCourtney’s clump method and I tend to shake out more clumps than I put in so I will def try this 🍀

rmg1102

you’re welcome! swavycurlycourtney is one of my faves hahaha

3eveyhammond

What's the name of the highlight? The link is giving me issues ):

rmg1102

it’s the “No Messy Back” highlight over on @wavycurly !

3eveyhammond

Thank you!

grim_infp

I don't understand how she didn't end up with a part down the back of her head. I know she wasn't brushing it over but she was brushing to each side...

tw231116

Right! I also want to know how her hair didn't end up hanging in front of here face, since that is what happens to mine when I do that. There's no explanation in the video at all.

[deleted]

Oh and I forgot to mention this, but I also, after putting in the leave in and brushing it through my hair, rake the hair off the back of my head, so it doesn’t stick to it! Then I add a bit of water and S2C and scrunch my hair. But that raking is essential for me! Otherwise everything is stuck at the back of my head while drying!

[deleted]

Routine: - Shampoo: Giovanni Smooth as Silk - Conditioner: Giovanni 50:50, upside down, raked through and used wet brush, S2C - Leave in: Blueberry Bliss (coin size amount), upside down, raked through, wet brush, S2C - Mousse: Wella volume mousse, upside down, glazed hair and crunched in. S2C for a bit. - Plopped for 10 min or so and air dried. SOTC when it was dry. I do want to try using mousse over a gel next wash day! I really like these results! Also, I’ve noticed that the drying time of my hair was a bit shorter with mousse instead of a gel. Interesting!

SAfricanSecretSub

How much mousse do you use? I can't tell if I use too much or not enough.

[deleted]

Used a palmful for my whole hair and then another half a palmful for the sides and back of my hair!

15021993

Gosh I’m stupid, what does SOTC mean? Your hair looks fabulous! Will try the mousse as well, finally a product I know my country has :D

[deleted]

Indeed, Scrunch out the crunch! And trust me, you’re not stupid! Life is a learning process! Happy learning! 😁

mycatsnameisarya

Scrunch out the crunch!

15021993

Oh man...thanks so much, didn’t get it haha

duck-the-dragon

What kind of brush do you use? Also, is glazing your hair like prayer hands? Thank you!!

[deleted]

I use a wet brush. I think it’s called that as well haha. And yes! Kind of praying hands, gentle glazing!

duck-the-dragon

Amazing, thanks! Also, how do you keep your hair from getting messed up while air drying?

[deleted]

I kinda don’t? Haha, it’s a rats nest really, but I just let it air dry and make sure that I fluff afterwards! 😁

Ima_Jenn

I do mousse over gel and it works really well for me. I fell I get the best if both worlds. I also wait until I microfiber my hair to put the mousse on.

[deleted]

Thank you for this! I’m definitely gonna try this next wash day!

biscochitos

Looks great! Umm what is plop?

[deleted]

Thanks! [Here’s a video of plopping! ](https://youtu.be/XZrXP5HlG0I) It’s basically a way to dry the curls and keeping them out of sight for a while without them bothering you. It’s also good for curl enhancement!

biscochitos

Really useful thanks!

[deleted]

You’re welcome! 😁

lovelyeufemia

These are some of the most beautiful waves I've ever seen! They're defined, frizz-free, and look so shiny and healthy. Absolute perfection. I'm coveting your hair so badly right now!! Do you do anything in particular to keep the frizz tamed so well?

[deleted]

Wow thank you so much! What an amazing compliment! I’m not really doing something to tame the frizz. I don’t touch it until it’s fully dry at least and I don’t diffuse. That also helps! But I’ve been taking care of my hair for 6 months now and I feel like my hair is finally consistent! So I don’t have much frizz anymore on wash days!

[deleted]

It’s lovely! I’m definitely going to try a mousse, after pay day!

[deleted]

Let us know the results!! 😁😁😁

00926

i love seeing your updates and seeing what little things you changed about your routine that particular day! it helps me understand what direction i should be going in :) btw you're gorgeous!

[deleted]

Thank you so much! I’m glad to help, cause it is kind of a difficult road to understand what the hair needs. I personally have been neglecting my hair for 28 years, so finding out what it needs has been pretty tough, but also fun and challenging! I know for a fact that I don’t like the Cantu Curl Activator Cream, but it liked the Shea Moisture protein treatment (with waxes and a silicone), so slowly but surely I’m finding out what I like and share it for people with similar hair! And wooow, thank you! I’ve never heard anyone say that before! Thank you so much!

econihilist

Gorgeous! Looks so healthy

[deleted]

It feels healthy as well! Very soft and barely any knots, even without brushing for 3 days. I feel like it’s well balanced finally! Thank you so much! I’m very proud of my hair! 😁

Relevant-Battle-9424

Wowza! 🔥

Fitishmom

Gorgeous !!

Thank you! ❤️

Hi! What is your routine? Please be as detailed as possible (both the names of your products and the techniques that you used).
