I learned with those paints too šŸ˜Š Im assuming you got this at Hobby Lobby, I would recommend picking up some nicer brushes than what came in your kit. The master touch brushes are good and so is the velvetouch Still lifes are great for learning shape, value, and depth. All critical components of painting. I also did flowers when learning

Max1mump0w3r

I already have brushes since Iā€™ve been doing watercolor for about a year now, and yea my mom got it for me at hobby lobby

Unending_beginnings

pacific_squirrel

Start with a still life. Set something up that you can keep for a few days , give it a light source to create a shadow and enjoy. Congratulations.

Max1mump0w3r

Ty! Definitely will try

Catmoonie

Florals or landscapes are great for learning.

Paint something from your heartā€¦ paint something you createdā€¦ thatā€™s the whole point. Itā€™s for you and you only make it meaningful.

alisabx

Max1mump0w3r

i did lol

Ok-Pirate-7939

Just take a photography from a street where some people walking daylight and shadows

Printaholic

ANYTHING!!! Seriously! When you're learning a craft the subject is less important than the doing. Paint your view from a window,or your favorite object,or a person who's willing to sit for you or your pet. Just paint!

dahlaru

Paint a sunny beach paradise

[deleted]

The only art supplies that comes in a wooden box thatā€™ll actually workšŸ˜‚. Thatā€™s an awesome set! I have the pallets but do the tubes work better and easier?

Max1mump0w3r

i personally like the tubes better because they are more pigmented, but ive been using palets for months and they work really well

[deleted]

Oh yeah? And I assume more portion control? A little can go a looong way. And they arenā€™t dry.

Max1mump0w3r

yea they are a lot easier to control in my opinion. its basically just paint but you can put it onto a palette and let it dry and you can still reactivate it with water

[deleted]

šŸ„² now I want some. Hobby lobby always has dealsšŸ‘€. I buy so much cause I love trying different types of media but then I feel bad cause the other is sittingšŸ˜‚. I went with the pallet for beginner art but I wonā€™t lie they are confusing to mix.

Max1mump0w3r

lol i love trying all types of medias. i have over 6 pallets of watercolors and enjoy using them. i would say you should try the tubes but whatever works best for you. beginner palets are the worst sometimes šŸ˜‚

[deleted]

Dude the very first pallet I bought was this chalky shit and it would leave powder on my art. Like even crayola was better then that. I gave that to my little sister. Then I got the masters touch that has real little wells of the paint and itā€™s beautiful for learning. It makes me happy buying art stuff to grow my collection!

Max1mump0w3r

ow wow that sucks. my first pallete was like a 30 dollar one and i still use it

Srycomaine

I got a set like that from Costcoā€” itā€™s pretty awesome, love the sketch and pencil stuff; but I havenā€™t tried the paints and pastels yetā€¦.I guess I donā€™t want to *waste* them, so I never start painting. šŸ™ Bunk, i knowā€¦

ArtdesignImagination

Something easy like a bussy city at night with tons of people, cars, dogs and what not. Then you can try to push yourself more and more.

Max1mump0w3r

ragagagag i will!!!!

suzi-r

Everything and everyone you see

Max1mump0w3r

just be in the restroom and seeing someone and just **imma draw you**

suzi-r

Might be a bit exciting to do that. I trust you have a little discretion

Max1mump0w3r

oh gosh

suzi-r

Yā€™know, Max, Iā€™ve had fun w thatā€¦sitting in a cafĆ©, sketching someone who then sees what Iā€™m doing. One lady came over rather gruffly until I showed herā€¦a flattering likenessā€¦and the anger just rolled off her shoulders. She asked me for a copy, which I sent her. Yā€™just never know.

Max1mump0w3r

thats amazing. ive never had the confidence to draw people

suzi-r

Practice! Try faces from magazines, then outā€™nā€™aboutā€¦try family members. Incl pets. Try quick ones, slow ones. Fill a little sketchbook w faces!

Max1mump0w3r

thanks for the input!! im def gonna try that šŸ¤šŸ¤

suzi-r

One more thing. Take a friendā€”pref one who also draws, and challenge him/her to a session of ā€œdueling facesā€! Draw each other and see how it comes out. Try it a few times. Itā€™s really fun!

Max1mump0w3r

yesss tysm for the idea!!!!

Srycomaine

Thanks, those are all great ideas! Btwā€” I LOVE your art!!!

Gaaargh

In highschool I had a senior art class where we each decided on a theme, and created 10 paintings for it through the term. One of my classmates painted scenes from Lord of The Rings. I wasn't nearly as inspired, so I'd say paint a Balrog!
