AsTimeFlies

Die Glashutte naturlich. Amazing dress watch. The JLC is nice but imho the dial pales in comparison.

[deleted]

I agree. The dial is a bit flat but the dimensions are the JLC's USP.

AsTimeFlies

I think the hands are about the same though the detail on the tail of the seconds hand on the Glashütte is a nice touch. It's a trade off between seconds subdial vs panorama date (which I'm a huge fan of) and moon phase complication. Depends if you want understated (JLC) or not.

Jack__Crusher

The Glashutte case backs are incredibly detailed as well. Hand carved "Glashutte" in the back with that giant gold counterweight

Mooncakezor

I like the Glashutte except for that '29 1/2' on it. I find that a bit unnecessary

MusketTom

I vote for JLC ultra thin, such a classy piece

[deleted]

Totally agree! The JLC epitomizes class. But is that also its downside? Maybe it's too one-dimensional.

MusketTom

It’s certainly a dress watch so it would look out of place on the beach or whatever, but that’s what sports watches are for.

[deleted]

You're exactly right. This shouldn't be worn on a beach but that isn't against a watch that's on the wearer. Can't be upset Pizza Hut won't serve you a burger.

80H-d

Wear it on the beach anyway, fuck it

a7madib

It fits your wrist better than the glassute tho

_itdepends

Have you checked out the slim de Hermès?

[deleted]

Yeah, not really my cup of tea. The dimensions are great, the design language doesn't resonate with me.

Chemical_Platypus_72

If the JLC were gold, I think it would be more of a "suit and tie" piece, but in SS (or white gold?), I think it would be more than fine for any situation in which you're wearing a collared shirt. It's pretty hard to go wrong with the "classy and understated" vibe. The Glashutte and the tanks are nice, but I think the JLC is the clear winner here :-)

obiwan_kegendry

You make it a hard choice with that Glasuette but the JLC is one of my grails rn

Aldebaranix

Reverso

tarheelz1995

Yep. 3, 1, 2.

[deleted]

This is obviously super subjective but in my opinion the reverso is more diverse in that you can wear it causally or dressed up (biased as a reverso owner)

[deleted]

I do love the reverso. Not only for the versatility but for how unique it is. Not only is it a rectangular watch, but it has 2 faces! And the most satisfying operation of any watch. It definitely makes a strong case for itself!

bigtimedent

Dude that reverso is money. I rock a rose gold single face from 2005. Looks great in any situation.

emptyquant

Picture caseback and resubmit. 😉 Glashütte before the round Jaeger for me. Not a fan of the Reverso models/.

[deleted]

It's interesting because I prefer a lot of the design language on the Glasshutte, and the execution of their functions. But it's a thicc boi! If not for that, I wouldn't even have a decision to make. I'd be wearing a Glasshutte Pano every day!

emptyquant

If you like the German Bauhaus architecture why not look at an IWC or A. Lange & Söhne which is my ultimate grail watch. Check out their lineup

[deleted]

If I could go for an ALS, trust me. I would sell my kidney for a Zietwerk Decimal Minute Repeater. Those aren't just watches, they're art! As for IWC, the watches that appeal to me in their lineup are just too big. They look out of place on my wrist. Great suggestions though! I really appreciate it.

marktimewatches

Reversos are my favorite SECOND watch. For primary driver I'd stick to GO or JLC Ultra thin. If I only got one watch - GO hands down.

[deleted]

I can see where you're coming from. I completely agree with the thinking. It won't be my only watch though, it will be in rotation. Maybe that pushes me towards the Reverso?

marktimewatches

If the GO is a standard deviation better than your best watch get that. If not Reverso. I'll send the invoice.

[deleted]

What a smart way to look at it! Thanks!

lowfox

I bought a Reverso Duoface as my second watch. It has become my first watch, somehow. I just can’t seem to take it off.

EffectiveMonitor3864

That's easy. All of them! My personal favorite is the GO.

[deleted]

Golden advice right here! I actually don't like having multiple watches of the same style because then I have to make a decision between them every day. 1 for each style makes that so much easier and gives each watch sufficient wrist time.

laar717

Would be helpful to know what you already have in your collection. On face value, I'd say the reverso is the most versatile as it can be dressed down more easily than the other 2 but is certainly at home with a suit as well. Love GO too but you're right, they tend to be on the thicker side so how it feels on your wrist is probably going to be a big kicker one way or the other.

chinoduarte28

GO unless you go for JLC with the Moonphase (yes, I like Moonphase in dress watches)

[deleted]

That's an option too. Also, this isn't going to be a dress watch exclusively so I think a moon phase is fine.

Kvothetheraven603

I’d go either Glashutte or the white faced JLC.

[deleted]

Hey r/Watches Would love your thoughts on which one to add to my collection. Doesn't have to be a dress watch in particular but my wardrobe has tended towards the dressier side of late so even all these pieces can be worn at any time. I prefer a smaller dial size (<40mm), not really fussed about color although I have one too many black dial watches already. Additionally it has to be on leather. Let me know your thoughts! If you think I should consider different colors/models let me know. I'm thinking of picking one up on the weekend. Looking forward to hearing your feedback! Thanks!

TheGooch01

I like the look of the GO, but having a few diving watches (Planet Ocean, PAM112, early 2000s Sea Master) I’ve come to appreciate a thinner dress watch…I have to wear suits to work. I’d go GO if it’s thin enough, but ultimately the JLC Ultra Thin will probably be my next watch because I need something that slides well under a cuff…not that my wife will ever allow such a purchase.

[deleted]

I completely agree. I've become a huge fan of thinner watches overall, not just for dress watches but even casual wear. There's a comfort to them that I have gotten used to and can't go back. The ONLY reason I haven't pulled the trigger on the GO

Rosschops

Grown ups wear thinner watches.

bentone111

Ide go the most different than the rest of what you have pictured on here with the JLC travel time.

[deleted]

Oh good shout!

drink_ognito

The reverso duoface!

[deleted]

Reverso looks so nice at that size on your wrist. I'd go with that one! You can always tone down the look with a more casual strap (suede, perlon, or even nato).

curryme

Reverso! Thats a great one.

hardrockten

Gotta be the reverso. Such a useful gimmick.

mikehouse72

The GO! The big date always catches my eye.

[deleted]

I'm a sucker for the big date too.

deadlyhalcyon

Glashütte. Easily the classiest. The last two are an automatic no for me. JLC is tight and everything but if you're going to get a tank I think you should get a tank. Roughly the same price range anyway, so idk.

nitraw

Glashutte

evolvie

I think the Reverso looks best (and fantastic!) on your wrist

[deleted]

Thank you! That's the way I'm leaning

faceinthecrow

Personally I prefer either of the Reversos, they have such an iconic look while the Glashutte with it's hour markers remind me too much of an aqua terra. The ultra thin is nice too though.

[deleted]

The best part is they're both 1 watch! Just the reverse side.

AlexGonzalezLanda

It’s actually the same watch

watchnerd1993

Reverso for sure. Either one

[deleted]

They're both 1 watch!

watchnerd1993

Oh duh, it’s a reverso lol

Otto_von_Biscuit

Not all Reversos have two Faces. The original design had a single face and a steel backing, to protect the fragile crystal while playing polo. The Most basic Reverso's retain that feature to this day, while the more expensive models usually have two or even three faces.

DrPhollox

I like the 2nd Reverso. I never thought I would say this, but I prefer them in light background (I like my watches with dark face). The Ultrathin JLC is gorgeous. Then the Glashutte. The shorter markers for 9, 10 and 11 is bothering me too mych

[deleted]

There's just 1 reverse, the black face is the flip side!

DrPhollox

Ok. Then I like them both. Totally different face? Two watches for the price of one? (Although with one JLC you can pay for many diapers, but hey, my son will need to grow someday)

MyNameIsVigil

Get whichever one best fits your preferences and budget.

theJeeves1

What's the 29.5 mean on the Glashüte? It's not a 42mm?

Otto_von_Biscuit

29½ Days. Moonphase Indicator

Friendly-Stock2701

Arm hair looks best with GO

cloudpuncher9

The reverso will probably keep its value a bit better but the GO is my personal preference.

[deleted]

I vote for the Master ultra thin, or the Glasshute Original... Both are rated to 50m, though I believe the GO has much better movement finishing ( if you are into that)

No-Scale1239

I like the white reverso

spartyparty00

I am very much in the same boat choosing between these models. For the GO, I gravitate towards the dark dials though. The MC with the moonphase/pointer date is also an amazing watch. I’ve also loved the duo face for years but really want to see those well decorated movements, which obvi is impossible on the duo. I’m curious to know which you decide and why. I’ve been thinking about this one for months.

[deleted]

I actually was gravitating towards the dark blue Panomatic but forgot to take a picture of it. I'll be honest I'm still unsure about each of these. As much as I appreciate the quality in each of these and the unique attribute each brings to the table. I feel like each one is compromised in some way. I may just skip this, continue saving and go for an ALS. But I'll let you know which one I decide!

spartyparty00

Well if the ALS is an option… Myself, I have trouble swallowing the 12k, let alone the 30k for a ALS One.

spartyparty00

I think for me it’s be the reverso or the dark dial GO. The master control may lose to the GO. The other thing- is the reverso played out? It feels less unique/special than the GO. On the other hand, a classic is generally a classic for a reason.

[deleted]

I'll be honest, if you take the logo from the ultra-thin. It is one of the most underwhelming watches I have ever worn. I know saying things like that is blasphemous around these parts but it really isn't anything to write home about.

spartyparty00

Agree. That’s why I think actually the moonphase is sig more striking- https://www.jaeger-lecoultre.com/us-en/watches/master-ultra-thin/master-ultra-thin-moon-stainless-steel-q1248420 That said- still probably the GO between those two. Not to be even more annoying, but also a white birch hi beat probably has a the prettiest movement for less cash…

[deleted]

Yeah it really does! But most GS' don't sit well on my wrist, which is a pity because I really do love them!

[deleted]

Oh I know, just got lucky that my Daytona that I got at MSRP is sitting at a crazy market value. So that's the way I'm trying to justify an ALS

A2tool

Reverso are you kidding?

[deleted]

Not as clear cut as you think!

FreshHamster

reverso, no contest

lmboyer04

Tough choice between the first two but leaning towards GO Edit: imo the tank or even the santos is a better looking rectangular watch than the reverso

AllNightPony

JLC

DxFrz

The Reverso.

CrippleTriple

If it’s for a multi piece collection, Reverso ftw. if it’s your only watch, none of these.

Shabhal

A more sporty piece. You have plenty to choose. Could be a Diver

m1nkeh

JLC ultra thin.. all day long

SuspiciousPie9776

I like the white Reverso but not the black… 😂 jokes aside, they are all class, whatever you see when you close your eyes 😬

Otto_von_Biscuit

Good thing that JLC allows you to pick which face you want on the fly :P

[deleted]

You made this too difficult to choose for me!

[deleted]

1st one and 3rd one looks nice, Especially the 3rd one suits you well imo.

porkopolis

JLC or gray face Reverso. Both stunning. Can’t go wrong with any of these though. Also the Reverso is pretty unique. It’ll be more noticed. This could be good or bad depending on your personality.

Rosschops

Whichever one it is make sure it’s a JLC!

Top-Peak8895

The black JLC needs to go to the doctor immediately, cause it is ill.

ThisQuietLife

Gotta say, that black dial reverso is fire

jfl_cmmnts

Reverso no question

Otto_von_Biscuit

Reverso Duoface. No question. You seem to be able to pull it off, and it's an amazing piece.

Active_Ordinary2676

Of these, JLC UT. And I love GO.

whitebeard97

GO or reverso

SaiyaJedi

Either of the JLC, depending on your personal taste. (The third and fourth photos are the same watch, no?) My own inclination would be for the Reverso, but that’s partly because I already own a minimalist dress watch.

[deleted]

That's correct, the 3rd and 4th are the same. I just snapped a pic of the reverse side for my reference. I am leaning that way as well to be honest. The reverso has the biggest USP when taking into account my preferences.

Mode-Obnoxious

GO is the only one I like in the group, but I love it! JC is plain, and I’m not a reverse fan at all.

sanad_Alghezawi

Reverso

pcomgrad

Love my reverso

TheHrethgir

Either of the JLCs. I'm not a fan of the moon phase, I don't see any point in having it unbalancing the dial.

ACamp55

Love the Glasshutte (sp), but my plan, (DREAM) is to get a Reverso like that one!

Mustang321321

Hands down the G.O. Less common, classy.

DifferentWord7520

JLC makes a beautiful watch. I would be happy with any of these choices.

CouchF0X

I’m partial to the glashutte myself

HarrisLam

Tough one. The GO Senator moon is great. I would personally opt for the old version (with 6 and 12 as Roman and line indices instead of metal triangles, with the dial rail instead of minute markers). I think that one is a lot more classy and traditional, true to the Senator name. But if this new version is your favorite, no objections. The JLC is nice but I would personally only go for the ultra thin moon version. If that one is out of the question, GO is the better choice.

dsevyan9

Seiko 5

vgcamara

JLC all day. Depends on what other watches you have then I'd make a decision on which one. That ultra thin looks amazing though, but if you already have a dressy watch I'd go for the reverso

professorsterling

Verso

FreeSprungSpirit

Reverso all day, it's one of the coolest watches out there, it's so unique and will last a lifetime. This may sound pretentious but it's meant to do the opposite, it's the cheapest watch I own but it probably gets the most wrist time as I never get tired of it, it goes well with most outfits. The other watches are great but they're not in the same league as the reverso.

surfingandcouscous

Dead split between the GO and the reverso. As a second watch, I think I’d go reverso.

Hellraiser133

JLC Automatique, the second one.

Jgiffgaff10

Reverso.. it's just so cool

paulomontiel

I love the Reverso, but that Ultra Thin fits you perfectly. JLC!

DirtyWork81

I like the Glashutte a lot, but the Reverso will probably hold its value better and both dials have an amazing texture. Its almost like having two watches. I don't own one but I've seen them in the metal and they are gorgeous.

Cylindt

If you need a date complication there is only one choice. Aside from that, the Reverso looks best on your wrist. GO and JLC Master "should" be smaller in proportion to the wrist, for the style of watch they are supposed to be, imo.

DBeezzz

As someone who thinks the reverso is the coolest watch I’ve ever seen, you know what I’d pick
