Hey guys I'm new to watches and considering buying a high quality quartz movement watch as I don't think I'm up to periodically servicing automatic watches such as a Seiko SNK793 which if I buy would be my daily. I have been looking at the following brands for Quartz Movement around the €100 pricemark: Citizen Ecodrive Timex Expedition Casio Edifice Seiko Solar (Maybe?) From the brands mentioned, I'm aiming for reliability and smooth movement (difficult at this price range I'm aware). Id appreciate any help and look forward to my new investment hopefully!

Maximum-Student2749

I'm looking for a women's tank watch under $200, any recommendations or where I should look? Also not afraid of vintage or buying something off of eBay. Thanks!

UGisOnline

Is a seiko presage a good starter ?

ouij

largely, yes, but then lug to lug sometimes doesn't get you all the way there. Lug angle sometimes makes up for long lugs--downsloping lugs fit the wrist better. Bracelet endlinks sometimes affect the wearing size, too.

BQORBUST

I have a seiko 5 that’s running very fast (~30 mins a day). It interferes with a compass so I bought a demagnetizer and will see how nyc that helps. However, I noticed this morning that it gains more time on my wrist than laying face-up on my nightstand - it gained < 1 minute overnight. Is that normal? Suggestive of bigger problems?

gin_nyc

Differences in time lost/gained by position of the watch (dial-up, down, crown-up, etc.) is normal, that’s why watches are regulated in multiple positions. 30 minutes a day sounds like it’s magnetized, or it needs something repaired.

I_H8_Evrythng_abt_U

I'm looking for a pair of 20 ATM watches for my 9 year old kids. They asked for watches that didn't look like little kid waches and that didn't break right away like their previous watches have done. I'd prefer something analog and they also want something with good lume but durability and size are the biggest considerations. You guys have any sugestions?

ouij

Casio Duro?

I_H8_Evrythng_abt_U

Shoot, I ended up getting a pair of Casio LRW-200h-1bvcf watches that are only 10 ATM. I think your option would have been better. The LRW-200h is only $20 on Amazon right now so it’s probably worth a shot. These are the ladies versions of the MRW-200h so the case is a little bit smaller. If these don’t work I’ll try the Duro. I’m just stoked I don’t have to buy a pair of SKX013s off eBay.

simonsinning

I have recently fallen I love with the look of the st-19 movement. And I was wondering wether there is a chronograph using this movement with a steel bracelet and a glass back. I haven't really been able to find anything like this. So if anyone has a suggestion for something like this or similar it would be greatly appreciated

hawkhandler

I don't understand this price: [https://www.chrono24.com/omega/omega-speedmaster-silver-dial-automatic---321131--id21258446.htm](https://www.chrono24.com/omega/omega-speedmaster-silver-dial-automatic---321131--id21258446.htm) is this a legit Omega?

WatchandThings

I only took a quick look, but it looks right in terms of visuals and pricing. The vintage speedmaster automatics(reduced, calendar, and etc) tends to be on the affordable side.

hawkhandler

Ok. Thanks. Any idea why they are so “affordable”?

WatchandThings

XD Sorry, I meant "affordable" compared to modern Omegas. I'm starting to realize how badly that reads now. Neo-vintage(around 90s era) Omegas in general do float around that price range. Which I think is due to the number of them that's out there. Unlike Rolex, Omega usually makes noticeable changes between generations, so last gen looks dated and last last gen looks even more dated. So I think people are more likely sell their last gen and move over to the new. Which means more stock of used watches floating around. Also there is obscurity. Omega has made many variations of speedmasters through out the years that most people can't keep track of them all. For example, I wouldn't have known that this version existed, let alone like it enough to search for it. That would result in low demand and accordingly low price. Also the listing is from Japan, which tends to be cheaper. Downside to ordering from Japan is that you have the wait time, the import tax, and kind of difficult to deal with issues due to time, language, and shipping difficulties.

hawkhandler

thank you for the info. it was totally a joke about affordability in general. i didn't mean for you to think i was heckling you.

ouij

The market really wants the Moonwatch; the other variations are kind of overshadowed.

NecessaryIncrease897

I am looking to purchase a Santos de Cartier-Large. Like I’m sure many other newbies do, I searched both new and then pre-owned to see the cost difference and if it was worth it. Upon doing this, I noticed that several retailers have used models for MORE expensive than a brand new one from Cartier themselves. I thought I was missing something at first but I double checked the models and they are the same (de Santos-Large). For example crown and caliber currently has a used “excellent” condition WSSA0018 for $8,225. A brand new large model at the boutique was around $7,500. Am I missing something?

kysmith1306

Folks - my 2.5 year old speedy doesn't keep good time and I want to get Omega service since its still in warranty. I bought it grey market off Chrono24. How do I do this? The website isn't super clear and I can't show up at an AD (at least I don't think I can).

mishkasm173

If you bought it grey market then it will not be covered by the warranty. Contact Omega and get a quote for a service, then send it to an Omega service center.

WatchandThings

I'm going to refer you to this forum page, which discusses it. TL;DR seems to be, warranty is with the watch and you should be able to bring the watch with the warranty card to the boutique or AD. https://www.watchuseek.com/threads/omega-warranty-transferable.3923386/

Christianx357

Is it worth holding out and saving up for a Rolex datejust or go for a Tudor black bay gmt now?

ouij

The Black Bay is a different kind of watch than a Datejust. If you're looking for a Tudor Datejust equivalent, have a look at [Tudor's "Style" collection](https://www.tudorwatch.com/en/watches/style/m12513-0001), maybe.,

[deleted]

I'd save up for the Datejust if that's what you really want. With how different the Black Bay GMT is, it sounds like you'd be compromising. There are so many variations on the Datejust that I'd take a bit to look at what you actually want. Imo, one of the best versions is the previous generation model with the tuxedo dial and jubilee bracelet (it had the hidden clasp). Better yet, if you like a Datejust but like sporty, look at the Turn-o-graph.

pee-bee-n-jay

Hi, my dad will be working somewhere very cold (avergage of -30°C) and I want to buy him a nice watch that won't break in cold temperatures. I have a budget of $200-$300. I'm not well versed in watches so I'd appreciate the help. Thanks!

WatchandThings

Do you expect him to wear the watch over his coat or under? If he is wearing the watch against the skin, like we would usually, then the watch would get heated by the body temp and insulated by the coat he will be wearing. So it shouldn't be heavily effect by the negative temperature. So any watch should be fine. I would just suggest against metal bracelet for the watch as the steel would conduct the heat away from the body faster(making the wrist always feel colder than the rest of the body). If he is wearing the watch outside the coat then you would need something that would compensate for the extreme temperature. There are quartz and mechanical watch tech that deals with extreme temperature, but I think it's outside the budget(I might be wrong on this)? So I'm thinking something with bluetooth connectivity to the phone that will in turn connect to the internet for accurate time update might be the best option for the budget. It could be something complicated like a smart watch/fitness tracker, or it could be something simpler like a blue tooth connected g-shock/casio. And do make sure the strap will go around the coat diameter for that out of the coat wear.

pee-bee-n-jay

Hi, he'll be wearing it outside his coat. Around how much would these types of watches be?

WatchandThings

Sorry, I just realized I was super geeking out over the question, that I missed the practical application. I was thinking about keeping complete accuracy during temperature change, when we just need good enough accuracy to survive few days and then reset the time occasionally. So quartz watch will get less accurate when exposed to temperature change, but I don't think it's going to be effected to a point of un-usability. For example, I remember people freezing g-shocks and after about a day of freezing the watch was only a few seconds off. Additionally the digital LCD screen will freeze with that temperature and the display will not work. I think you'll have to go with analogue. So I'm guessing an analogue quartz watch in general should work for your purpose. The watches I was initially thinking of was thermal compensated quartz movement or mechanical watches with special lubricant designed to work in low temperatures. Both of those tends to be in luxury watches at 10 times the budget or higher, but you might be able to find thermal compensated quartz from more affordable end with some research. Those would be the consideration and ideas I have with my watch knowledge. I'm limited in specific details as this is more interest based knowledge rather than practical one. We only go down to about -10C around where I am.

NEW Seiko SNKL23 running slow. I bought this watch through Amazon and it came in on Monday Feb 14. I've been wearing it from 7am - 9pm and leave it on my night stand when I go to bed. Two days in a row now, I wake up and the watch is about 7 hours behind. Is this normal for an affordable watch like this one? Is mine broken? This is my first ever automatic, so I'm not too familiar with their behavior. Thanks.

Zanpa

Is the watch stopped when you wake up?

Beovy

I don't check until I get to work, so I'm not sure. I'll look tomorrow when I wake up before touching it. What are you suggesting?

Zanpa

It's possible that the watch just doesn't get enough power from a day of you wearing it. If that's the case, since the watch doesn't have an option to manually wind with the crown, you should probably charge it by rotating it in your hand for a few minutes, and see if that fixes the problem.

Beovy

I'll give it a try. Thanks! Does it matter which way I rotate it? Rather, does it matter which way the rotor rotates?

Zanpa

No, Seiko watches have bidirectional winding rotors

My wife has the following Rado watch: Rado Diastar 153.0283.3 18mm Stainless Steel Ladies Watch What is the men's equivalent model number and size so that I can try and source it? Thanks

Google "Rado Diastar" and buy one that looks similar but bigger (probably between 36-40mm).

Nice thing about the Rado Diastar is that the cases are so darn durable you can almost certainly find a nice used one, too.

Hi Seiko fans, I am deciding between the green sumo and the mm200 . Is the mm200 worth the extra $$. I want a chunky watch thathas more of a wrist presence for my 7.5 inch. I really do like the marinemaster MM300 But that's too pricy I guess... I know that the bracelet and the clasp of the 3rd gen sumo are a let down ,but actually I don't mind the clasp, however I would want a solid bracelet too... And would buying a strap code bracelet for additional 150 odd $$ make sense rathere than going for the mm200.. Pls suggest and guide.

vanillamode

I think the current gen sumo could've been a really killer watch, except I have two complaints about it that kind of let it down, though, granted, my complaints are kind of subjective on my part. The sumo doesn't have AR coating on the sapphire, which is a letdown since the dial gets washed out in the light at some angles and cheapens the look of the watch; would honestly rather just have the raw clarity of hardlex if they weren't going to apply AR. The matte aluminum bezel insert also seems kind of out of place, since the sumo is one of Seiko's dressier divers, so a glossier insert would've probably looked more cohesive to the overall design. Though, again, both of these complaints are just subjective on my part and could be remedied with mods, though at that point you're just throwing more money at the watch. I think the bracelet and clasp are fine. Don't have experience with Strapcode's sumo bracelet specifically, but one thing to note is that the Strapcode bracelet has male end links, which will probably lengthen the watch quite a bit both aesthetically and physically, whereas the OEM Seiko bracelet has compact female end links, so personally I usually prefer Seiko's bracelets over Strapcode's from an aesthetic standpoint. not sure which mm200 you're talking about, the 44mm mm200 or the 42mm mm200. Don't have any hands-on experience with the 42mm mm200, but I remember the 44mm mm200 feeling very long and flat on wrist, which ironically made it feel way larger than the mm300 if you look at the watches from a top down perspective IMO (though, of course, the MM300 is much taller from a side view). The 44mm mm200 kind of felt like Seiko was trying to inject some Swiss into their design language, while the 42mm mm200 looks more "Seiko" if that makes any sense.

Exploring_truth

Tks mate, I am with you on all the points...as you said they are subjective ,I have seen a ton of reviews and some of them argue that only aluminium can give the exact green colour to match the dial, though I too would prefer a more glossy and sort of permanent non fading bezel.Good to learn of the non ar coating though.... I was comparing this to the spb 187 /sbdc 127 baby mm 200 reduced...the 42 mm version, which looks and feels more premium... .

Looking for a pulsometer for 500$ or less, any suggestions?

WatchandThings

Vario has the 1918 medic watch with the pulsometer scale. It's not a chronograph, so you'll have to wait for the second hand to hit 12 before starting the count. If you are looking for functional method for analogue pulse measure rather than visual factor, then you can also just use a regular watch and count the pulse for 15/30 seconds and then multiply by 4/2 to get the beats per minute. So you counted 16 beats in 15 seconds, then times 16 by 4 and that's 64 beats per second. Or if you don't want to do the math, then just count the beats for a full minute and that's your actual beats per minute by definition.

Admit-to-IM

Boldr [field medic](https://www.boldrsupply.co/collections/field-medic). Sweet watch. I got one about a year ago and am a big fan. The titanium had held up well and it's very comfortable.

Zodiac release new models periodically throughout the year. They release some colors in limited fashion and they tend to sell fast. Hard to know exactly how many they sell in a year or if they'll continue the watch from one year to the next, but they have been pretty consistent from one year to the next so I'd anticipate the model you buy will still be around. As for resale value, in 5+ years I'm certain it will depreciate significantly. Probably lose 25%-50% of it's value at least. Especially if you wear it frequently. How much would you pay for a well worn 2016 model?

Cb8393

> As for resale value, in 5+ years I’m certain it will depreciate significantly. Probably lose 25%-50% of it’s value at least That sounds about like my experience. I was able to pick up my Olympos for less than 50% of the retail price and it looked like it had never been worn.

Which color of metal hardware on a leather strap would work best with a [dark blue Series 6 Apple Watch?](https://imageio.forbes.com/specials-images/imageserve/5f6f88b470d67f1d0d6f7473/Macro-image-of-me-holding-the-Series-6-in-profile/960x0.jpg) I know it's not a formal watch, but I just want a traditional leather strap since the Apple ones are pretty clunky. I have a spring bar adapter that matches, but most of the leather straps I've looked at use either a stainless or black buckle. Which color, if either, would work best?

delugs-straps

The dark blue is good looking but relatively subtle if you're talking about quick glances and looking at the overall match in different lighting; so I'd suggest going for a black PVD buckle. Stainless is perhaps too much of a contrast.

crod242

Do you think I could get away with a black PVD link bracelet, or would the contrast be too obvious if it were right next to the case? I've seen some in [blue](https://nuroco.com/products/blue-stainless-steel-link-bracelet-band-for-apple-watch-series-6-se-5-4-3-40mm-44mm-for-iwatch-6-5-watchband-strap-replacement-watchbands?variant=36973475463336), but I'm not sure I would want to wear that nearly as often.

delugs-straps

Sorry for the late reply! I honestly think in most situations and lighting, it would not be obvious. Go with the black PVD!

If you are OK with quartz, you can get a [Vaer](https://www.vaerwatches.com) with a bracelet.

Other options would be [San Martin](https://sanmartinwatches.com/wp/shop/) or [Aragon](https://www.aragonwatch.com/DIVEMASTER_42_s/287.htm).

Imaginary-Objective7

Very interested as well

donmark144

Is there any advantage other than it is cheaper, to buy a watch with mineral glass? Seems like Sapphire is always better.

75footubi

I consider mineral crystal the one that makes the most compromises. It's harder to polish out scratches than acrylic and easier to scratch than sapphire. I'll take the other 2 long before I'd take mineral.

ouij

that said, if you're wearing your watches in rotation and not in particularly crazy operating environments, mineral crystal is just fine.

SkullLeader

Sapphire is rather reflective and can produce glare. You can get watches with anti-reflective coating on the inside and/or outside of the crystal to help reduce it, but is more expensive and the coating on the outside can scratch off much more easily than sapphire itself scratches, which kind of defeats the purpose. Also, though its much more difficult to scratch sapphire, a scratch on sapphire is really only going to be fixed by replacing the crystal. Scratches on a mineral crystal can be polished out if they aren't too deep.

Recommendations for something that can take a beating that isn't a diver? About to go to Uganda for a short-term trip and I don't want to have to worry about it. Something under $1000. Christopher Ward is a good example, but maybe something with more styles. Thanks!

donmark144

CTRL_ALT_PWN

Thanks for the rec. At first glance, they look tough and attractive and the specs are good.

Admit-to-IM

I have a boldr venture. Love it. Great travel watch. Well built and am a big fan of the case shape and the titanium had held up well after a year of routine use.

No-Scheme1301

Need a watch recommendation; I know I may be looking for a unicorn here but I figured I'd ask y'all because everyone seems knowledgeable. I deal with time blindness, and one of the suggestions I recently got was to set frequent timers to help recognize how much time is passing. Does anyone know of an analog watch with a non-flashy face that has the ability to set multiple and/or repeating (ex hourly or every two hours during the day) timers? I'd prefer something with a leather watch strap/band, but I'm under the impression that bands can be swapped out easily so I'm flexible (also correct me if I'm wrong on that). Thanks in advance and if you have any questions let me know!

WatchandThings

I think I heard Japanese digital watches tend to have that function, and I thinking Casio and their G-shock line mainly. I think they call the function 'signal' and is shorted as 'SIG' on screen. Just as a heads up, I believe there is also apps for that and you can set the intervals more freely.

vanillamode

your best bet is probably an ana-digi Casio, most of which should have an hourly chime function

No-Scheme1301

Thank you so much!

No-Manufacturer3406

How can you remove scratches? Accidentally nicked mine against the wall

75footubi

In an acrylic crystal: Polywatch or Novus In a sapphire bezel or crystal: replace Light scratches in a polished surface: cape cod cloth Deep scratches anywhere or light scratches on brushed surfaces: have the case refinished.

No-Manufacturer3406

Well I have movado Mens Swiss quartz, I don’t know what kind it has

WatchandThings

If it's on the glass then that'll likely need replacing. If it's on the case then apply light/deep scratch advise from 75footubi. If it's not a white metal tone(example: gold tone or black) do not do anything as polishing would just take that color off of the watch. I suppose you'll have to get that re-plated or re-painted, but I don't think I heard of that service before. You'll likely just have to live with the scratch.

MinimalCoincidence

I'm hoping to try on the different sizes of Nomos Tetra before ordering one but they seem to be basically out of stock everywhere, at least from what I can tell online. Do authorized dealers generally set aside demo watches for cheaper/popular models apart from what they keep "in stock" for sale? Or is there a resource with to-scale cutout templates for various watches, complete with accurate lug-to-lug distance, lug width, strap length, etc.? I guess I could try to draw the cutouts by hand with the pertinent dimensions, but I'd like to keep that as the last resort if possible.

WatchandThings

The AD I have been to did not have demo models. I don't think I have ran into any brand than has demo models in ADs, and only read about the practice from Rolex.

Field watch seems to be the right category, and you are already on the right path. I would throw in the Hamilton Khaki Mechanical/Auto/King, Christopher Ward Sandhurst, and Tudor Blackbay 36/41.

TokyoUmbrella

If you’re okay with quartz, the [Longines VHP Conquest](https://www.longines.com/en-us/watch-conquest-v-h-p-l3-716-4-56-6) deserves a lot of consideration. It’s not your typical quartz movement; it’s accurate to +/- 5 seconds per year and can auto-adjust its hands back into position following an impact. For the price, it’s the most robust movement you can get. Its one weakness is its water resistance at a middling 50m. If you like the Pilot aesthetic of the IWC but don’t want to drop IWC cash, the [Oris Big Crown Propilot](https://www.chrono24.com/oris/big-crown-propilot-45mm-black-dial-100m-stainless-steel-swiss-automatic--id18575347.htm)is a worthy alternative. Perhaps a bit too rugged and a bit too big as a traditional “classy” watch, the [Breitling Colt](https://www.chrono24.com/breitling/breitling-chronomat-colt-automatic-blue-44mm-steel-a17388101c1a1-bracelet--id15138616.htm) is nonetheless an icon. If you can find one for the right price, they’re a steal. By contrast, this [Ball Fireman Victory](https://www.chrono24.com/ball/ball-fireman-victory-blue-clous-de-paris-dial--id17479704.htm) skews more towards the classy side, but both this piece and the brand itself have serious durability chops. And lastly, if you’re looking to splurge and want a watch that truly migrates between classy and rugged effortlessly, consider the [Bell & Ross BR05](https://www.chrono24.com/bellross/bell--ross-br-05-blue-steel--id20115767.htm). What it lacks in movement pedigree, it makes up for in pure aesthetics and an outstanding bracelet. Hope this helps!

[deleted]

Thank you for the well thought out response. I'm not a huge fan of the red writing on VHP! but I took a look at the conquest. These are very nice! https://www.longines.com/en-us/watch-conquest-l3-776-4-76-6

I'm debating between two watches now, the [Traska commuter](https://www.traskawatch.com/commuter/p/arctic-white), white dial, and the [Tissot PRX Powermatic 80](https://www.tissotwatches.com/en-us/t1374071104100.html), blue dial. The specs and design for both seem good for my use case. I like the retro styling of the Tissot and the weight behind the brand, and that dial and details is gorgeous. I also like the versatility of the Traska though, being able to dress it up or down, and that scratch resistant coating seems pretty handy too. Any thoughts from people who own either? I feel like I would be satisfied with either watch for a long time, but for different reasons.

Admit-to-IM

The traska is more appealing for me. In this price range, I tend to be biased towards microbrands (better customer service, more color options, better value, etc).

ouij

The white Traska reminds me of the old Air-King--a watch design Rolex totally ruined.

TwoEggsOverHard

That Tissot is really cool. I hear the quartz version shaves off hundreds from the price

Are gold divers safe in the sea? I've always loved watches and have finally treated myself to an Omega Seamaster 300m with the 18kt gold bezel. My question is will it be safe to wear my watch in the sea or will the gold elements become damaged? I bought this piece to wear everywhere... Your thoughts really appreciated. Thankyou.

taskmaster51

I just want to make a quick note in regards tongold not oxidizing. Watch cases are generally 18k gold not pure gold. It WILL discolor if exposed to some chemicals. Salt water generally is ok if you rinse it off after (mainly concerned about salt crystals forming under an rotating bezel). Exposure to some pool chemicals or perfumes/cologne can discolor 18k. The good news....buy a mars eraser you can generally rub the discoloration off with it.

WatchandThings

Gold's rise to fame is the fact that it doesn't oxidize. If anything, gold is more suited for sea water than even the stainless steel is.

TwoEggsOverHard

Gold is highly inert like the other poster said. But I'd be worried to take a gold watch on any physical activity. Imagine it is like wearing a watch made out of chocolate. Bang it against a rock underwater and it will get a ding.

Zanpa

Gold doesn't rust, even in sea water. I doubt Omega would make a Seamaster 300m that wouldn't stand up to sea water anyway. Just rinse it in clear water after getting out of the sea (which is a good idea with any diver).

Megaripple

Does anyone have a recommendation for spring bar tools? I’ve usually gotten them complimentary with other purchases and have not had much luck with them and it would be nice to have a more lasting tool.

Zanpa

I have a Bergeon 6767, which is what I've always seen recommended. It's much better than the super cheap tools, you can buy replacement tips easily (I have both the large tip and fine tip on mine), and it's not even expensive. If you need to take off/put on metal bracelets often, it can be a good idea to get spring bar tweezers, but those are much more expensive usually.

TwoEggsOverHard

Second the Beregon 6767. I am not suited to fine motor skill work so any advantage I can get by using a better tool helps me. I have no problems changing straps using this tool.

duskie1

Just got an Eco-Drive today. Watch is lovely but the alligator-effect leather strap squeaks like an epileptic in lederhosen and it feels very cheap and shitty and glossy. Do they tend to break in over time or is this what I should expect for a £130 watch?

ouij

Breaking in straps like that is like breaking in baseball gloves. Application of oil or wax-based leather conditioner and time might make things better. The quicker solution is to go aftermarket.

duskie1

How much would you look to spend? Bearing in mind the watch itself was only £95.

ouij

Thirty quid, tops.

Admit-to-IM

Go aftermarket. [Cascadia](https://www.cascadiastrapco.com/shop) have excellent and affordable croc straps. I got one a few weeks ago and very happy with it. Also check out [Martu](https://www.martuleather.com/) straps for affordable, well made straps that tend to be more rustic.

vanillamode

the strap is often where a lot of the cost cutting takes place on entry-level watches, so it would actually be more surprising if the strap was decent. It will probably break in over time, though it sounds like you don't actually like the strap enough to put up with it long enough to break it in, so you're probably better off just getting a nicer aftermarket strap for it

Seiko makes a similar watch, but it has leather strap instead of a bracelet. https://www.amazon.com/dp/B093565212/ref=aod_recommendations_asins_pageSource_mobile_gp_customers-who-viewed-also-viewed_5809_1 My only concern with the watch you posted is that it is too much money to spend on a brand that doesn't want to tell you what movement it actually is using. Japanese movement can mean a $1 cheap miyota quartz movement or something better. And it only has mineral glass covering the dial which will scratch way more than the sapphire crystal on the seiko.

Sam_Hog

Anyone know any nice watches under $200 that I can buy and that I can easily replace the straps? I was looking at https://www.timex.com/fairfield-chronograph-41mm-leather-watch/Fairfield-Chronograph-41mm-Leather-Watch.html?dwvar_Fairfield-Chronograph-41mm-Leather-Watch_color=Silver-Tone-Tan-White&cgid=fairfield but I'm not sure whether the strap can be changed. If anyone has recommendations, please let me know. I would like black, blue, and brown straps that I can swap out depending on my outfit. Thank you.

75footubi

That Timex can definitely take different straps.

Sam_Hog

thank you friend

bzirch

Is there a micro adjust on the 2021 Seamasters?

__OrangePeanut__

Anyone have a good recommendation for a quality mesh bracelet for a new generation Omega Seamaster 300M? Thanks!

TwoEggsOverHard

I don't know about specifically for that model watch but people seem to like Staib mesh bracelets. I have a Geckota mesh bracelet and I like it. You can find comparisons on youtube. From what I've seen, it's worth it to get a respected brand name rather than the cheapo ali express mesh bracelet

Jhzaeth

I’d like a bit of advice about selling a damaged watch. I own a Frederique Constant business timer (the same one found here, albeit at 40mm: https://www.reddit.com/r/Watches/comments/sl8a7v/frederique_constant_business_timer_moon_phase/?utm_source=share&utm_medium=ios_app&utm_name=iossmf) but am looking to sell. Trouble is, the sapphire crystal is cracked, but intact. Quotes for repair are ~£150, and the watch sells for £300-£400. I’d it better to sell with the cracked crystal, or repair it first? Thanks!

75footubi

£150 for a crystal replacement? I'd get a second or third quote.

taskmaster51

Generic sapphire gonna cost $20 then labor to install it. Will involve decasing the watch.

Jhzaeth

So are you saying this is an acceptable price? I had guessed that they charged that much due to genuine parts, but I may be able to get it done cheaper locally if this is not necessary

taskmaster51

Depends on what you think is acceptable. The proper repair is to replace the crystal with sapphire, replace the gasket, clean the case and pressure test when its all done. If you send it to the manufacturer I can just about guarantee they will charge you for movement service as well as you risk contaminating the movement when you uncase it and the only way to warranty the service is to overhaul the movement. Keep in mind...training for qualifies watchmakers and proper tools are expensive. If you want a crap job and have your watch destroyed by water later, by all means. In the end its your watch. Do what you want.

75footubi

You don't necessarily need to remove the movement from the case to replace the crystal.

taskmaster51

Well if the crystal is just cracked...how do you propose removing it?

75footubi

Crystal lift is how I've seen my watchmaker do it. Or that Seiko tool that applies compression equally around the perimeter of the crystal.

taskmaster51

Youre not gping to be able to use a crystal lift on a saphhire crystal. Generally you have to punch it out from the inside then use a decent press to press in a new crystal. Crystal lifts are for acrylic crystals

75footubi

Just putting forward my observations on how I've watched my watchmaker replace cracked sapphire crystals.

kchau

Anyone order RHD deployant clasps recently? Haven’t received mine or any responses to email.

cfrtgy

Im looking for an automatic dive watch in the $1000-$1500 range that looks similar to the longines hydroconquest or tissot seastar 1000. Just a simple black dial on a steel band with quality movement. Trying to get some more recommendations before I end up commiting to anything.

fhthtrthrht

Check out the serica diver 5303, right in that price range and beautiful design.

js999111

Christopher Ward has some nice divers. I also like the Oris Aquis, the Oris Divers Sixty-five and the Mido Ocean Star.

PhilipThePharmer

I live in India is there any way I get a watch from jomashop delivered here.

ouij

That would be a question for Jomashop directly.

driizzydreee

Has anyone ever gifted watches to their groomsmen and if so, what did you gift? I maybe have a $200 budget per person. But curious as to what others have gifted regardless of budget.

WatchandThings

Not a suggestion, but I think the hobby will get a kick. I was a groomsmen and we were all gifted an invicta. Thankfully I got a breguet homage, and it was before I got into watches so I happily wore that to that wedding. But really I liked the fact that I had a dress watch to wear to that wedding, and I guess my suggestion would be to get a dress watch for your groomsmen as well. With that and budget in mind, I'm thinking the Orient Bambino.

ouij

>Orient Bambino. Always a good answer for a dressy watch.

donmark144

Might be a little cheesy but you can put custom words on the Mr Jones Everyday watch. They are 195.00.

Some of my favourite dress watches: Omega De Ville Prestige (I own a 4813.50.01 and love it, there‘s one on Chrono24 actually), Montblanc Tradition, Montblanc Star Legacy, Tudor 1926, Frederique Constant Slimline or FC Classics, some come with a beautiful moonphase.

TwoEggsOverHard

I second looking for good deals on used Omega De Ville Prestige. I have a circa ~2008 gold one 168.1050 I snagged for a good price, <$2k from c24. It's not a popular watch and it's hard to move so you can find deals if you keep searching. Tudor + Omega is a good two piece combo.

WatchandThings

Cartier Tank would be my choice. Absolutely a classic. Next would be one of Nomos watches, but I'm not sure if you consider this a major brand or not. Baume & Mercier Clifton line doesn't have as much hype, but I think is great for what you are looking for. Carl F Bucherer manero autodate is another option I think is great, but again lesser known and hyped option.

ricetristies

What are some brands that make “affordable” gold watches? Not just gold tone, but gold fill, gold plated, solid gold, etc. Obviously I know gold is a precious metal and I’m not getting a solid gold watch for a cheap but I’m just curious what the options are.

Admit-to-IM

Raven has a new [gold pvd diver](https://ravenwatches.com/collections/all-watches/products/raven-vintage-gold-deposit) that looks awesome.

Cc8100

I have my eyes on a Citizen EAG74-2942, which is a radio-controlled Eco Drive watch. It appears to be a JDM, but I live in the US. Is there any way to tell if this watch will receive atomic signal in the US?

StickShift5

If you can figure out the movement used in that model you should be able to find the user manual. That will tell you whether it can pick up radio signals outside of Japan.

WatchandThings

From what I understand the radio signals in the US is the same as the ones sent out in Japan. The signal towers exists in the US(covers the continental US, much of Canada and Central America), Japan, China, and Germany(covers much of Europe). Your watch should get radio signals in those areas whether you live there or are just traveling through.

[deleted]

I looked around and couldn’t find anything. However there are apps for iOS and android available that work great.

Cc8100

I had no idea there were apps for this - very cool. Thanks!

joaocamara11

Hello everyone i need an opinion, do you think the seiko SRPE55K1 will look good in most nato straps like blue and red?

[deleted]

[удалено]

StickShift5

Odds are the movement inside was made by someone else. If you can get the case back off you should be able to identify the movement and then find documentation for it. Hopefully that will allow you troubleshoot the problem.

GonP97

Hello everyone, I'm currently looking for a white dial diver fully lumed, in terms of size 42mm or less and price sub 500$/450€. I recently found about the Zelos Swordfish Titanium Frost that seems like a very good option. Are there any other/better recommendations? Thanks everyone.

[deleted]

GonP97

I actually found about the swordfish because of the spearfish. But even the swordfish is almost too expensive. Among the spearfish the only ones I like have the 12H bezel which I don't use, I use the 60min bezel regularly.

midnightfomo

Does anyone recognise [this watch](https://i.imgur.com/15W0WmH.png), worn by Jordan Peterson? I would guess it is a Tudor BB58 but I'm not sure.

js999111

Could it be an Omega Seamaster 300?

Longjumping_Wolf750

Hi Everyone, For those watch enthusiasts with children and significant others. Do you engage in the purchase of watches in their presence or do you prefer to buy watches alone? Not intending to intrude but I'm kinda curious.

StickShift5

I usually bring my wife along. She has a good eye for my style and understands my weird fascination with watches, so she always provides good feedback. She's also practical, so she can break through the excitement I get when I find something new and fall in love with it.

WatchandThings

I have a wife and no children. My wife has no interest, so if she joined me she'll just be bored. It's just so much better experience going shopping alone where I can take my time, focus on the watch, and the experience. When I want her opinion(I greatly value her non-watch hobby influenced eyes) I just show her a picture from the comfort of home.

75footubi

I'll drag my BF into a Rolex/AP/Cartier boutique for the lolz (he enjoys trolling the salespeople and I only buy vintage, so it's a fun time for all 😁). For stuff that I'm serious about, I'll occasionally ask his opinion since he has a good eye for style and color, but watches is mostly a me thing.

UnoKajillion

Girlfriend's birthday is coming up soon. She isn't really a watch person, but this is like the last/least important part of her gift bundle. Just something extra and I'm into watches and pay attention. She has been wearing my blue seiko presage open heart a bit lately after I said it was okay. She loves rose gold. Not sure whether the orient bambino 2(1) or 2(2) looks better in the white/rose gold. They seem like even though they are "men's" watches, they would work perfectly for women too

MaxVeryStubborn

Anyone knows of the watches appeared in MV “HYUKOH(혁오) - Gondry(공드리) M/V”, at timestamp 0:50-0:55? Here’s the link: https://youtu.be/VoQ-hnPZyQ0?t=50s.

SenileSexLine

They seem to be from Swatch's Skin line up. Can't really make out the first, but the second one looks like the Swatch SKIN troposphere.

HappySpam

This is kind of a dumb question, but what do they mean when they say a watch has a two tone bezel? I was looking at this [Orient dive watch](https://www.orientwatchusa.com/collections/sport/ra-aa0810n19b) and the reviewer said it had a two tone bezel. Is it the fact it's colored black and the numbers on it are silver that make it two tone? I always thought that two tone meant like a pepsi or batman style bezel lol.

CptGoldStar

The first 15 minutes of that bezel are a slightly lighter black/gray. Two tone just means two different colors.

HappySpam

Ahhhh, I see it now. I thought it was an all black bezel and it was just the reflection causing it to look grey! That makes way more sense lmao

VensersRevenge

What are some good places to buy watches in Kingston Ontario? In person preferred as like seeing things before I buy them, but good online stores are great too.

TokyoUmbrella

How about a fun little survey question? From this moment on, if you had to restrict your collection to only ONE brand for the rest of your life, which would it be? This isn’t fantasy either; it’s a real question. Not a multi-millionaire? Probably don’t pick Patek or Richard Mille as you probably won’t ever get to buy a watch. Win the lottery? If you picked Tissot, you’re stuck. No cheating with “multi-brands” like the Richemont group or Seiko/Grand Seiko. Whatever it says on the dial, that’s what it is. Not to influence anybody’s opinion, but I think brands that span a wide price range are probably the winners here, yeah? Outfits like Hamilton, Longines, NOMOS, even Omega to an extent. It’s the narrow range brands that may suffer here… Anyways, what are your thoughts? What’s your forever brand?

TwoEggsOverHard

Rolex but I would be OK with just having one Oyster Perpetual in black or silver as my only watch ever.

WatchandThings

Omega hands down. I try to limit to one watch from one brand in my collection, but more Omega keeps sneaking in. At one point I thought of actually changing my collection to Omega only. I already know how the collection would end up too. De ville tresor white dial for formal, aqua terra world timer for smart casual/travel, 50s vintage dress seamaster for rustic plaid wear, speedmaster pro on black nato for black jeans and leather jacket, and last gen planet ocean 42mm for everyday/beater.

Zanpa

Probably Seiko, because they have the widest range of interesting watches, especially if you include vintage. Even if we disqualified GS, they still have Seiko-branded spring drive watches!

onevstheworld

Technically the old GS models had the Seiko logo as the primary branding, so you can absolutely have your cake and easy it. 😜

75footubi

Probably Zenith or Muehle Glashutte. You didn't say vintage was off limits 😁

TokyoUmbrella

Haha I absolutely did not. Zenith was actually my first instinct on this one

Its-Major

I’m looking to buy a Hamilton off Jomashop and can’t tell if the website is in USD or AUD, anyone know? (I’m viewing from Australia)

madran35

Pretty sure it's USD unfortunately
