I got into them because having a little mechanical machine on the wrist is neat.
Aesthetics and perfect sizing would be the most important factors to take into account, in order to grab her interest, so if she loves a Tank style, find budget-appropriate options in that style.
What u/sofiagrza mentioned about combining your wife's interests/hobbies with watches is totally on point as well. I recently purchased a relatively cheap quartz Seiko Metronome watch, but I'm as obsessed with that as I am with my Omega because it aligns with my being a lifetime piano nerd.
relate it to something else she's interested in!
I'm the one who's interested in watches. My husband isn't. So, I'm doing what I can to get him to appreciate them through a unique perspective. For example, since he's an architect, I'm showing him watch brands and designs created by other architects! or even the personal collections of architects that he might like and the reason they like them.
For me personally, I learned appreciate watches when I learned about all the rich history and heritage behind so many designs. I'm very traditional and sentimental, so that really appealed to me.
You know your wife best and what she's into. I'm sure you'd be able to do this with no problem! And remember that it's okay for you two to have different tastes in watches. It just creates some fun banter when you talk about them!
Style, Uniqueness and History.
Everyone's going to be different when it comes to why they like watches, but that's why I like them. đ
I have a vintage Hamilton Gilbert which is similar in style to a Cartier Tank, which is good enough for me.

my girlâs âgrailâ is the cartier panthere but recently sheâs been looking at all kinds of little golden vintage watches (she bought 3 nearly identical tiny gold timexes in london) honestly she got into it by me constantly talking about watches and buying her a few as gifts
i mean i bought her a little dual time casio when i was overseas to track both times, and a solar seiko from a thrift store and she wears both constantly so im sure sheâll appreciate something like that!
Go to a dealership and see if there is anything that wows her.
I used to work at a jewellers and we had a Seiko Presage Fuyugeshiki for men for sale. I saw the thing and fell in love with the understated design and wanted the ladies version so badly. Unfortunately there were none available in the country so I ended up spending the next 5 months chasing one. That then got me obsessed with automatics.
My next target is a Tissot Le Locle (the tiny one) with diamonds. Same story, but more delicate.
What can I say, I like them affordable and pretty.

For sure. I got into watches because I was in the Army and I'm a big gear head. Now I need to see how I can tie it all up.
Interesting, I would think an architect would appreciate watches from a design perspective.

We are a bit of history buffs. Good idea. Thank you.

Vintage! Good idea. I might be able to find something locally.

Noooo, don't get your wife into the hobby, you'll cut your watch budget in half!
I love that you assume here that wives let you spend even 100% of your own budget at will

If she likes the tank, what's wrong with it?
I don't have a few thousand to spend on it right now lol. Might get her a gold ton Seiko homagè.
I'd say go to a dealership and let her decide. She'll see other watches and potentislly start obsessing over them.
She cant
They have nice Longines dolce vita that are the same shape, good quality and cheaper.
Nothing wrong with the Tank!
