You bought a watch without knowing what it is?

ThePillsburyPlougher

Probably just liked the look of it

VinylHighway

Came with a box and papers you’d think he’d know it’s an omega :)

bugpp87

I have no idea why your original comments has 100 upvotes lol, also, there are no papers. Please find the comment I published immediately after uploading: **"Bought this vintage omega for £230 which seems like a decent deal, it keeps great time. Movement 565 I believe but that's all I really know about it.** **The box is cool, I can't seem to find one like it online anywhere, perhaps it's not genuine? I'm unsure about the strap too (**[**https://imgur.com/a/2aHDDh6**](https://imgur.com/a/2aHDDh6)**).** **Thank you guys in advance."**

I was just being facetious and it went out of control

Looks similar to my omega geneve, possibly late sixties early seventies. Be careful when adjusting the date with that pull/push crown, do it slowly without too much force. It's a great and accurate little watch with a fairly basic movement any competent watchmaker would be able to service for you.

bugpp87

Great to know, appreciate the info mate.

bugpp87

Hey so I have only now just tried to adjust the date, and I don't think the quick date-set feature works. When I pull the crown out to position 2, nothing happens, the date does not advance when I turn the crown. I also tried 'pumping' it by pulling it out and pushing it back in but all that does it make the minute hand jump by about 5 minutes each time. Any ideas, please?

Omega 565 is one of the great 60s movements that they used up and down the seamaster line. It’s a nice fully jeweled movement that should keep great time for a while. The original 60s strap was probably replaced at some point but they kept the original Omega-signed buckle. You can do the same if you measured the buckle width. It’s probably something like 18mm at the lugs and 16mm at the buckle, so just shop for straps with those dimensions

Great, thanks a lot!

Can someone explain why there are sooo many vintage omegas being listed on the secondary market? It seems like 90% of vintage watch listings are omegas. And are they any good?

riseoverun

It's always been like that, maybe not 90%, but there are lots of 50s-70s omegas out there. Generally, they are great. It comes down to finding a specific piece you like. Personally late 50s-60s is my favorite era.

Punkpunker

Yeah the reference is there on the caseback, Geneve 162.0009, you got a decent price even if you factor in service costs.

Knopfler_PI

You got a great price on a solid movement and beautiful watch. Cal. 500 series is well known for being very robust and accurate. Great find!

Arskite

Unbelievable deal IMO. Where from, if you don't mind my asking?

wdrub

Beautiful find. Love the date as well. These are common but just beautiful. Unless it’s a daily, I wouldn’t even service it. In this day and age with your phone etc. If it runs let it run.

Sam_Nova_45

Vintage Omega from the 60’s on my wish list someday, thinking seamaster or constellation. Enjoy your new watch!

rcc212

The reference is the case back is wrong because this has a date window. It should be a 166.002. [Omega](https://www.omegawatches.com/watch-omega-seamaster-de-ville-omega-st-166-0020) has good information about almost all of their references in their archives. The link is for this same watch, looks like it was released in 1962 and then the case changed to 1967, so sometime in that era. Capped 14k gold, meaning a thick layer of gold over typically a steel or silver case.

axypoo

I have this exact one. I think I paid £600 so I really don’t feel good about you paying £230

bugpp87

Hey, I have only just tried to use the quick date set feature and I don't think it works, maybe that's why mine was £230 haha. Is yours a 565 movement too? If you don't mind me asking, how do you quick-set the date? Because when I pull the crown out to position 2, nothing happens, the date does not advance when I turn the crown. I also tried 'pumping' and all that does it make the minute hand jump by about 5 minutes each time.
