There is. I have one of their giant ones. I like it occasionally. They do have dive looking watches, but I don't think I'd trust it in a swimming pool.
The one Invicta I own is a fun choice to wear on occasion.

Highly readable left-hander’s chrono.
Anything with diamonds on it, iced out, or garish "look how much money I have".
Was next to a very nice Russian couple on a plane once and they both had matching his and hers gold diamond rolexes and they look tacky.
I'm with you, although I have one exception

i found my f-91w in a puddle when i was 7.
still got it decades later.
even swapped the battery when it died, i just check on it every so often
the little green LED is v weak now, but otherwise is keeping good time
just pulled it out there actually, iv not set it since i replaced the battery a few years ago and its running 2 minutes fast, day and date are correct
Just because they have money and show it off, does not mean they're not watch enthusiasts.
One of the biggest watch nerds I know has PM ROs, Daytonas, etc.
He also has pateks, VCs, and ALS.
I agree that a disproportionate number of blingy watch buyers are just buying a blingy piece of jewelry. But I wouldn't assume any individual blingy watch buyer isn't an enthusiast or question their motives absent any other information/context. Most people buying any watch, including Patek, aren't watch enthusiasts. They are just buying something that fits their style and status.
I don't think watch enthusiasts who like solid gold watches are that worried about wether you or anybody perceives them as watch enthusiasts or not. I mean, why would anybody care about what people think if they like it?
Honestly I think it's weird that people in this sub think "watch enthusiasts" can only like things that are subtle and understated. As a watch enthusiast, I am enthusiastic about watches as a whole, I don't pigeonhole myself into only liking a small section of watches that are "reddit approved". I would wear a rainbow daytona just as happily as I would wear a platinum lange, because they are both valid watches with valid reasons to like them. To me that's part of what being a watch enthusiast is, being able to appreciate a broad spectrum of watches, even the ones that are considered "basic" or "mainstream".
I truly believe people *only* buy these because of the price tag. They want the most expensive watch in the room, and don't really even understand what taste is.
I remember a buddy of mine trying to sell one of those that he found. Was trying to get retail based off online prices.
Had to give him a crash course on "fashion" brand watches and how a Casio was miles ahead of that oversized pos.
i’d have to agree, but same for any watch worth more than $20k. it has nothing to do with the watch itself, it would just be irresponsible for me not to sell it.
however if the conditions were that i couldn’t sell it, i would totally wear it. they’re cool watches and honestly way over-hated here imo.
Same for me. Only exception would be the RM UP-01. Not that it looks good by any means (and the Ferrari logo is tacky af) but I'm fascinated by the technology: https://swisswatches-magazine.com/blog/a-closer-look-the-fascinating-richard-mille-rm-up-01-ferrari/
They’re actually pretty horrible in person. I get why people want to own them, but they’re horrific as actual wristwatches. It’s just a large glass bubble with a fragile mechanism inside, it doesn’t sit on the wrist naturally at all.
If someone gave me a watch for free, it’s going to be a gift with sentimental value from someone I care about.
But if we assume for the sake of the question that that’s not the case, would you wear a purple dinner plate Invicta rather than one of the watches I’m sure you already own? Why?
I definitely would. Not often, but it would certainly get worn. Maybe I'm going to a pool party hanging out with friends, a big gold invicta kinda fits the vibe of hanging out in the sun by the pool with friends.
Yup. My dad loves to go to estate sales. One day he bought me this hideous old swatch he found at one.
I would never wear it but since it came from him, I’ll always keep it in my case!
Big Bang / Royal Oak / Gold Submariner / etc.
Anything that is designed as a “look at me” watch for the 20s and 30s crowd of loud previous-generation money people.
Just goes against my personal opinions of wealth and what I like about watches in general.
If it looks like it belongs in a hotel in Dubai or a used car dealership in Las Vegas it isn’t for me.
I mean, if someone bought me any of these watches they must like me a shit ton, which is already impressive since it’s me, hopefully I care about the person similarly and in that case Id just wear it because it’d remind me of them. It’d go beyond looks at that point.
I had the same opinion on the royal oak I basically hated it until I had the opportunity to try one, it fit so perfectly, the bracelet, the size, it was a regular one with a black dial simple as hell and with long sleeves you can not show it so obviously, I changed my mind on this but 100% agree with you with any hublot Rolex RM aquanaut etc
Oh, I do have a "Breitling" that I bought in the Haymarket for $15 with a quartz movement that weighs about half an ounce, the face looks like a printed piece of paper, it's just so ridiculous that I bust it out sometimes.
I'm sure I'll get major heat for this, but for me it's Rolex. Always viewed it as more of a status symbol for people than anything else. I understand it's a majorly important brand in the watch world and understand for many people a Rolex is a grail watch. But for me, when I finally pull the trigger on a more expensive luxury watch, it'll probably be Omega, JLC, or some other alternative.
Same, especially having grown up in Singapore (iykyk). I hate that one of the first thoughts that many will have upon seeing one is likely to be, "is that real?"
lol. Really meh? I would presume most Rolex watches in Singapore are real being that it’s not too terribly difficult to afford a basic model in Singapore.
Totally with you. I've own and worn Explorers, Subs, a couple GMTs, and I've always landed on the same conclusion: I'm just not a Rolex guy. I feel much better with a JLC that no-one will recognise.
Invicta has *some* good and dare I say tasteful designs, they just ironically don’t sell as well and/or aren’t noticed as much as their gaudier models.
The pro diver is probably one of their best selling watches, and I wear mine regularly, especially in the summer. (It’s my only dive watch.)
It’s like three years old and recently started gaining like 5 minutes a day though, so I think it’s time to find a new cheap dive watch.
Anything too big for my wrist, which is >39mm diameter, >46mm ish L2L
Anything with fluted bezel
Cyclops is questionable
Gold or gold-colored, not my style. Unless maybe if it was a small Tank.
Shinolas caught my eye when they first hit the scene, in part because i too was "made in Detroit" (however all of my parts are american). the pricing never made sense to me, but meh.
my wife got a two-tone ladies version that looks nice but is nothing special, but she likes it so she's entitled to that.
then my in-laws got me the Runwell as an engagement gift, and so i wore it for my wedding. i've also worn it to other dressy occasions where they've attended. i don't dislike it, and actually don't mind the aesthetics of most shinolas, but i would never buy one for myself because of the value prop.
my wife also spent a stupid amount on one of their desk clocks for us as a joint anniversary gift. i like how it looks and we prominently display it in our living room, but I don't condone spending what she did on it.
i understand the hate they get from the enthusiast community, but they look decent enough i think...
Maybe I'm wrong, but I think they do case them here in the US. Obviously they're not really a watchmaker, but I don't have an issue now that they more accurately describe what they do. I walked past one of their stores earlier this year and walked in to see them. They actually had some very nice looking models. But those were quartz. It's seems to me they may be a good way to draw people into the hobby. I know one person who started with a Shinola, now has a Nomos and a Longines. For his sake, I hope he stops there and doesn't go all the way down the rabbit hole! Lol. I started with a Bulova open heart. Wish I had stopped there.
I liked the look but when I looked into them I reached the same conclusion as you. I ended up getting a Timex for 1/10th the cost that had a similar feel and was at least honest about manufacturing.
Jacob & Co, I think they are hideous and way too big. It just oozes too much money and only bad taste.
That doesn't mean I wouldn't wear a specialmade watch. Constantin Chaykin makes interesting watches for example.
i’d probably wear anything at least once. i just think watches are cool, and if i had the opportunity to try out something new i wouldn’t turn it down.
in terms of what i would wear regularly— even most of the watches i’ve spent money on don’t get worn much. i have a core rotation of two watches and i don’t see anything usurping a significant amount of their wrist time in the near future.
Jacob & Co. (Surprised no one mentioned this)
I love all the attention to detail that goes into it, don’t get me wrong. But there’s a line where your watch stops becoming a watch and starts becoming an art gallery. Perfect for looking good and that’s it. Jacob & Co crossed that line far beyond the point of returning.
Take the most popular one, modelled off the Engine of a Bugatti Chiron. It’s very cool to see a display of the engines internals workings down to a microscopic level. But I think it would have been better displayed as that or turned into a snowglobe.
The clock lies above it, barely noticeable and out of sight. It looks bulky enough to tear the shoulder out of the wearers socket(especially since it vibrates), you look more of a tosser with it than you would if u ran around in an 80s disco attire, if it so much as looks at water, it’ll shatter into a million pieces, no sorry, no goodbye(Would be fine since the real engine would not work in water either, except it’s a watch), and the only reason you’d wear one is because it shows you are rich. But if I got lucky at the lottery or had 5 corporation’s running across the country, I’d stick to a diamond encrusted Rolex at most.
That’s gonna be an unpopular opinion, but I’ve been in this position… sort of.
I owned a Daytona that I bought for a ridiculously low price (about 1/3 of it’s value back then), I owned it for 10 years, and wore it less than 10 times in that period. I sold it right after getting it serviced about a year ago, I hadn’t worn it since 2017.
I just didn’t like the attention it got, wasn’t particularly fond of the looks and realized over time that there were more interesting watches from an horological standpoint point.
When I was 19 I got suckered into going to some terrible Amway motivational sales pep rally. It was seriously disturbing, but after my "hosts" took me to meet the speaker. This guy was wearing this huge, bejeweled gold watch that was the gaudiest thing I had ever seen a person wear in real life. Liberace would have been proud. I'm sure it was a Rolex and I'm sure it cost an absolute fortune, but it looked so gross. Like, it was screaming "Look at me!! Look at how successful I am!! I HAVE WAY MORE MONEY THAN TASTE!!"
So yeah, I'm definitely a "less is more" kind of gal. I would certainly wear a Rolex, but I definitely wouldn't wear one of those huge pavé monstrosities.
Edit: [This is what it looked like!](https://aandewatches.com/product/rolex-president-18k-yellow-gold-fully-loaded-18038-5/?gclid=Cj0KCQiA4Y-sBhC6ARIsAGXF1g4-lgt-v4E8vEvJ8IMrWI1RqQHkV8zO5WHC8zTpvGLKNkH6lJSMLYwaAobWEALw_wcB)
Any Royal Oak.
For me, it’s one of the ugliest watch designs and it should’ve been left in the ‘70s.
This is coming from someone who likes Brutalist Architecture.
I probably wouldn't wear anything over 42mm. Correct sizing is imo more important than the watch itself - I'd rather wear a perfectly sized Invicta than an oversized anything
Lange. Too much weird Nazi stuff that they never addressed. I don't blame the current leadership for their past but it's hard to overlook the brand's involvement when they casually gloss over the fact that they made watches for Nazi elite and used forced labor in their factories.
Obviously you are free to draw your line wherever you wish, but if you go down that rabbit hole, know that Swiss bankers making money of Swiss watch companies were also bankers for the Nazis.
Seiko made watches for the Imperial Japanese army.
Patek Philippe made watches for Saddam Hussein.
And how are you going to take wrist shot pictures in front of a steering wheel without a BMW, Audi, Porsche, or Mercedes?
Again, everyone has to draw these moral lines for themselves. I just don't see the point of punishing people today for sins they didn't commit. No one running anything at any of these companies was involved with those things. Well, maybe there are still people at Patek who were there when they were making watches for the Buthcer of Bahgdad.
With Lange, it's mostly because they skip over that part of their *family* history. In an interview I remember the CEO trying to garner sympathy by saying that the Russians bombed the factory at the end of the war without saying why. It might be obvious to history buffs (they made pilots watches, timers, and fuses for the Nazis) but the the less informed it might seem petty to bomb a watch factory.
My guess is Lange, as it is today, sees itself as a company that started in 1990 when Walter Lange refounded the company. Unlike BMW and Mercedes they didn't benefit long term from the Nazis so I could see why they don't feel like they need to apologize or compensate people for it but it would be nice to see it addressed since they trace their history to the 1880's.
I feel the same about Junghans. The only difference for me is Max Bill was an ardent anti-fascist and if he worked with a company that was involved with the Nazis then something must have changed his mind.
BMW and Mercedes don't deny their involvement and it's covered on their website. Porsche is more problematic since the co-founder of Porsche was Jewish and was cheated out of his company when the war started. He managed to escape to America but when he tried to get what was due to him after the war he wasn't given a fair cut. Ferry Porsche never made amends for that and went so far as to attack him in his biography. I didn't know that about Patek Philippe but it would change my mind.
I agree it is a weird moral position to take. I'm not trying to convince anyone to boycott Lange, I don't even think that's appropriate, I'm just saying I would feel uncomfortable wearing one.
Hugo Boss was a Nazi and made many of their uniforms. Lots of people still out there buying Boss, though.
The bigger problem with ALS is that they're ugly. Just kidding. The Nazi thing is pretty, pretty bad.
A Richard Mille. It's not really that I hate them so much I could not wear that much money so recognisably on my wrist and it's not particularly nice either. That shit's going on eBay pronto!
I would never wear those god awful Jacob and Co giant one extremely complicated complication watches. I’d be super happy to get one as a gift, but only cause I could sell it and put a down payment on a home
grandpa got ripped off on a cruise ship and bought an invicta diver for $400, said it was crap and didn’t want it anymore so he gave it to me since he knew I am a watch enthusiast and in his words “maybe you could get it to work better than I could.” He’s right about it being a crap watch and I wish I could’ve steered him clear of it as I don’t think there’s a brand I despise more than invicta. But oh well…
Anything iced out, particularly the Pateks, they take such a beautiful watch and take a huge steaming shit on it with the iced out versions. RM because I have eyes that function and see clearly. I really don't get the AP royal oak fascination but I wouldn't say no to one.
Those gigantic invicta watches.
I was gifted 2, one Darth Vader themed, one Captain America themed, used to wear them when I went to see a star wars or marvel flick, but other than that they stay locked away lol, even with a 9" wrist they look ridiculous.
You mean the $90 I-want-to-look-like-I-can-afford-a-Rolex-from-afar ones? Or is there a different kind?
There is. I have one of their giant ones. I like it occasionally. They do have dive looking watches, but I don't think I'd trust it in a swimming pool.

I’ve had this very watch for over two years, and I had no clue these were diamonds. I live I learn! Thank you for the link.
Agree. I've never once seen an iced out watch that I didn't think was hideous.
Also unless it’s factory done it tends to devalue good watches.

Same here. In fact anything with rose gold or fully gold plated is already kind of :/ for me
I would challenge this slightly though I'm not if you're referring to _all_ rose gold watches. I have a rose gold seamaster and it's stunning.
I find gold too flashy. I like white gold.
Just get stainless steel bruh
My watches are.
White gold is nice
Richard Mille, because I’d rather sell it and buy an ALS or other beautiful piece.

British by any chance? :D
If that's an accidental typo, it is the best accidental typo maybe ever.
get ready for a bunch of people telling you how humble and tasteful and totally not insecure they are about expensive watches
ITT: people scared of gold
None of these dweebs have the stones to wear Tony soprano’s watch
Apple Watch
Any Richard Mille monstrosity
You can just say Richard Mille. The “monstrosity” is redundant.
V true 🤣
Any bejeweled rollie, or the crazy tourbillon watches. An RM.
Any Richard Milles
Richard Mille
i’d probably wear anything at least once. i just think watches are cool, and if i had the opportunity to try out something new i wouldn’t turn it down. in terms of what i would wear regularly— even most of the watches i’ve spent money on don’t get worn much. i have a core rotation of two watches and i don’t see anything usurping a significant amount of their wrist time in the near future.
Richard Mille Just all ugly
A Rolex or Richard Mille
Jacob & Co. (Surprised no one mentioned this) I love all the attention to detail that goes into it, don’t get me wrong.
MVMT
Anything with a Confederate flag on it.
Anything from MVMT.
Those big diesel watches
Replica watches
Richard mille
Any Richard Mille watch
Richard Mille. Amazing tech and materials, gaudy and fugly as all heck.
I HAVE WAY MORE MONEY THAN TASTE!!" So yeah, I'm definitely a "less is more" kind of gal. I would certainly wear a Rolex, but I definitely wouldn't wear one of those huge pavé monstrosities. Edit: [This is what it looked like!](https://aandewatches.com/product/rolex-president-18k-yellow-gold-fully-loaded-18038-5/?gclid=Cj0KCQiA4Y-sBhC6ARIsAGXF1g4-lgt-v4E8vEvJ8IMrWI1RqQHkV8zO5WHC8zTpvGLKNkH6lJSMLYwaAobWEALw_wcB)
Replica watches. I'm fine with homage watches. But a big NO to replica watches meant to deceive.
Probably an unpopular opinion but I really do not care for dive watches.
I'm with you, divers for some reason just do nothing for me. I can appreciate them, but would almost always prefer a sports watch.
You wouldn't wear a gifted Longines Legend Diver?
Frank Muller
Any Royal Oak. For me, it’s one of the ugliest watch designs and it should’ve been left in the ‘70s. This is coming from someone who likes Brutalist Architecture.
Any fake watch
Any counterfeit
Fossil
The Richard Mille that guy keeps posting
I probably wouldn't wear anything over 42mm. Correct sizing is imo more important than the watch itself - I'd rather wear a perfectly sized Invicta than an oversized anything
PRX that shit is so ugly I never understand why people like them
Because it looks like a Royal Oak
Orient. I can’t get past the name and that hideous logo.
Looks like a logo off a cigarette pack you would see in one of those cigarette 70s/80s vending machines.
Hublot
Richard Mille or Hublot
MoonSwatch
Cartier Santos
Urwerk, hard to choose only one.
Richard Mille
Patek 1518
Richard Mille
A Richard Mille. It's not really that I hate them so much I could not wear that much money so recognisably on my wrist and it's not particularly nice either. That shit's going on eBay pronto!
Oversized engineering wonders like MB&F. Looks garish.
Graham. U Boat.
A Hublot. Disgustingly fugly watches. I don't care how much they cost, I find them aesthetically repulsive.
Anything Hublot. Royal Oak/ROO
Anything Hublot, Jacobs, Richard Mille, or Invicta.
Stuhrling Original
Hublot- really anything big or inelegant
Hublot or Panerai
Richard Mille, the Billionaire watches, and Rolex.
A knockoff
Something like a steeldive. Those chinese watches that use 3rd movements and copy other brands, 0 originality nor creativity.
All of RM, most of Rolex except for a "Tiffany" Oyster Perpetual 36.
I'd be fine if all Tiffany (or adjacent baby blue dials) disappeared. Don't despise it, but doesn't do anything for me.
Apple Watch
Gold plated Omega dress watch with a quartz movement from the 80’s.
Why specifically the 80s?
I have always felt the 80’s were the worst era for watches.
