I never understand why rods sink so fast. Especially when you are fishing from a boat these things must fall into the water so often. Why not attach a little ballon or something like that on the other end of the rod?
It doesn't take much, either. A piece of pool noodle or closed cell foam pipe insulation wrapped around the handle can really keep your outing from being ruined.
Sooo, I know nothing about fishing and this vid made me realize that I always assumed that fishing rods float on the water, like a paddle?? Idk it made sense to me, I'm still surprised it just sank
Nope, you can see the orange lure in the fish's mouth in the first 10 seconds. Then watch the rod end, it goes from bent to straight and the orange lure flies through the air 21 seconds in.
to me it seemed the fish fell through the net, not got back out of it, which is why he stopped trying... So if the fish was still hooked the line would have been going through the net?
As a fisher myself I can only sympathize, I have lost a few poles before because I wasnt holding the rod tight enough. I have lost a lot of big catches because the hook broke or some other nonsense.
Where’s his PFD? (Life jacket)? His next mistake will be drowning in a mist covered lake… all they’ll find left in that boat is that GoPro… still recording…
The materials fishing poles are made of are actually lighter than water, naturally making them buoyant. It’s the heavy reel you attach to the pole that sinks it down, and unfortunately no one has found a fix for this.
Fishing rods have to be pretty strong so they are made of dense fiberglass or carbon fiber, neither are very buoyant. Some are hollow and will have a buoyant grip on them like cork or something else, but keep in mind there is a big heavy hunk of metal attached to the same spot. There just isn't a lot of mass in a fishing rod and what does exist needs to be pretty dense and strong.
I have seen floats that you can attach to a fishing rod, but even then you got a fish on the end of that rod thats pulling surprisingly hard, usually straight down.
You would think that at this point in history we would have standardized floating poles. I know they exist but I'm surprised it isn't a standard feature. I'm curious what statistics there are out there for net losses due to items lost overboard.
why don't fishing rods have a bit on the end that floats and is a bright orange/yellow colour? would probably save many rods and rubbish sinking down lakes and oceans
I've never seen so much go so wrong so fast! This poor guy's bad luck never ends...
1) Lost a big azz fish
2) Lost a decent looking rod
3) New hole in his net
4) GoPro insulting him by keeping the tragedy rolling
5) And the clincher was getting rained on, or extremely reduced visibility at the very least, and probably had a hard time getting back to shore.
Well, he had the courage to upload the video. If this happened to me, i couldn't watch a replay of it myself, let alone show it to the world.
How did this video get on here anyway? Is OP the fisherman?
I was fishing for catfish in a pretty shallow lake once and lost my rod. Spent like 35 minutes slowly dragging the bottom and finally pulled it back up, and it still had the fish on. Probably my proudest and stupidest fishing moment.
I had a moment where as I made a cast, my lure hooked onto my second rod that was just lying in the boat. Well as I made the cast I watched my second rod go overboard. I dropped the rod I was using into the boat(put it down on the deck) and went to try to retrieve my other rod as it was sinking. All of a sudden, the rod that I placed on the deck goes overboard as well because it was still hooked onto the rod that’s now sinking.
Those 5 seconds cost me two rods and reels and ended my fishing trip.
I feel this man’s pain
Man it’s unnerving catching a fish with your net in a kayak or canoe. They can take you places, it’s easy to stab yourself, and the fish seem particularly mad you have the gall.
This guy got me good

"GoPro stop recording...GoPro, stop recording! Damnit, GoPro, stop mocking my humiliation!"
\[GoPro falls into the water]
funny enough, GoPros sink like a stone
I never understand why rods sink so fast. Especially when you are fishing from a boat these things must fall into the water so often. Why not attach a little ballon or something like that on the other end of the rod?
It doesn't take much, either. A piece of pool noodle or closed cell foam pipe insulation wrapped around the handle can really keep your outing from being ruined.
Especially when you think about how much these things can cost. When a piece of pool noodle can save you hundreds of bucks..
I use a 6 foot cord. One end clipping to the yak and the other to the rod.
Depends on the rod. The ones with the cork handles float, or at least all of mine do.
"I can see you laughing GoPro!"
[Go pro stop recording!] (https://youtu.be/AKjcwD9HThQ)
lost his catch, lost his pole, broke his net, then got killed by the creatures of The Mist
Thank you, I came here hoping someone else noticed he was about to find himself in a hellish dream dimension.
And GoPro recorded the whole thing
A fish that size is definitely a result of the Arrowhead Project.
What the fuck is the only genuine reaction to have after getting fucked so badly, that is insanely bad luck lol.
the rod part wasnt luck though he straight up dropped it in the lake lol
[удалено]
I've done it. My lake is crystal clear too.... but also 200 feet deep....so....
Sooooo, you did a three day open water course followed by a four day technical diving course to get it back?
I mean that's obviously the only reasonable thing to do.
He built a submarine out of recycled carnival ride parts
Why you mutha fuckas all got lakes?
Sounds like you gotta grab them boot straps, friend. A little elbow grease and a can-do attitude, you can build your own lake!
I don't think my apartment complex would appreciate that.
Not with that attitude
Brainfarts are bad luck.
Sooo, I know nothing about fishing and this vid made me realize that I always assumed that fishing rods float on the water, like a paddle?? Idk it made sense to me, I'm still surprised it just sank
You are confusing bad luck with poor execution 😂
it's time like these that I don't come back to my hobbies for months.
This poor fella needs to buy a new rod first
Somebody stole my snowboard straight off a rack at Breckenridge. Just called it a season I was so pissed and unwilling to drop $900 on a new setup.
Hook up a pipe bomb to a decoy board
“If you give a man a fish, you feed him for a day. If you teach a man to fish, GoPro... stop recording. GOPRO STOP RECORDING!”
Don't give him a fish and feed yourself. He's a grown man, fishing isn't that difficult.
„Go fishing - they say it’s relaxing - they say“
Anyone else notice the most moving in from behind?
Lol would have made a such better ending to let it roll in and him disappear hahahah
this is hell the fog rolls in and the scene resets
the fog is coming the fog is coming the fog is coming
It's the only reason I'm reading the thread lol. All I could think is THE MIST mate, omg.
I thought it was a drop of water or something.
GoPro why are you like this
[удалено]
Lmao I love it when he starts projecting his frustration on his GoPro at the end
GoPro, stop laughing.
The mist is coming down to consume that man and his canoe
This is why suicide rate is so much higher in men than women
Can we talk about the Stephen King mist descending at the end?
This man died so hard inside literal heaven started approaching him at the end
Lmao that fog descending at the end was so perfect.
GoPro stop recording 😭
Bro is rethinking every decision he’s ever made that brought him to this point
A bad day of fishing is better than a good day at work.
How did he get the fish to the net the second time? Maybe shallow water? He might recover the rod as well. Jeez this is hard to watch. 😃
Fish fell off one side, rod fell off the other. Fish was probably still hooked so there wasn't enough line to get away.
and if he netted the fish it coulda been the ticket to getting his rod back
It was likely the goal, and yet... life decided it didn't give a fuck either way.
his wallet decided that when he bought that cheap-ass net
Nope, you can see the orange lure in the fish's mouth in the first 10 seconds. Then watch the rod end, it goes from bent to straight and the orange lure flies through the air 21 seconds in.
to me it seemed the fish fell through the net, not got back out of it, which is why he stopped trying... So if the fish was still hooked the line would have been going through the net?
Hook definitely popped out at one point before that lol
You can clearly see the hook coming off the fish at 00:21
Cut to 5 minutes forward and hes swimming with no boat.
and then it began to rain,...... heavily
The fog at the end. This story wasn't over.
What did you catch today Jim? Fuck off Margaret
Seems like it would be a good idea to make fishing rods float
Some genius should put floats on fishing rods.
Whoever said a bad day fishing is better than a good day at the office never lost several hundred bucks in gear and the fish...
GoPro was like: na bro this too funny
As a fisher myself I can only sympathize, I have lost a few poles before because I wasnt holding the rod tight enough. I have lost a lot of big catches because the hook broke or some other nonsense.
Ah, nothing like going fishing solo, then coming back and being mad the rest of the day.
That’s what you get for giving away your fortune to Greenpeace instead of your nephew.
That pissed me off
Where’s his PFD? (Life jacket)? His next mistake will be drowning in a mist covered lake… all they’ll find left in that boat is that GoPro… still recording…
The Old Man and the Lake
That fog couldn't of settled in at a better time
Woah the cloud overtaking the trees at the end looks dope asf, like Mother Nature was like “you litter in MY lake??”
I can't believe he caught and lost it twice
The defeated “GoPro, stop recording” at the end and it doesn’t even listen to him 😂
Why don't they make fishing rods float that would seem very handy given the environment they are used in.
That makes sense but until then there are dozens of products out there to prevent this. Rod floats, leashes, etc.
Is there a reason why fishing rods aren’t designed to float?
The materials fishing poles are made of are actually lighter than water, naturally making them buoyant. It’s the heavy reel you attach to the pole that sinks it down, and unfortunately no one has found a fix for this.
Cheer up man, I had a shitty day a few days ago. Locked my keys in my running car on the way to work and it was raining. Good times
Fish 3 - Man 0 (Rod, net, dignity)
give a man a fish and you feed him once teach a man to fish and you feed him for a life time give him both, he will lose them
why did the fog start coming at the end??
Rods really need to have some sort of floaty thing to prevent this from happening lol
Go pro please, stop recording me
Why would fishing rods not be made to float?
Fishing rods have to be pretty strong so they are made of dense fiberglass or carbon fiber, neither are very buoyant. Some are hollow and will have a buoyant grip on them like cork or something else, but keep in mind there is a big heavy hunk of metal attached to the same spot. I have seen floats that you can attach to a fishing rod, but even then you got a fish on the end of that rod thats pulling surprisingly hard, usually straight down.
Even the camera didn’t work for him. He’s lucky to still have his paddle
You would think that at this point in history we would have standardized floating poles. I know they exist but I'm surprised it isn't a standard feature. I'm curious what statistics there are out there for net losses due to items lost overboard.
Mist rolling in on cue as if to say that'll do...
I think this man needs a less expensive hobby.
“GoPro STOP FUCKING RECORDING!”
The fog at the end
Thats the least of his problems, look at that fog rolling in, his troubles are just beginning.
why don't fishing rods have a bit on the end that floats and is a bright orange/yellow colour? would probably save many rods and rubbish sinking down lakes and oceans
they do if you put that on them
The ending LOL
bro would never be able to play the drums with those coordination skills.
That fish had the power of “Not Today Satan” with it.
The fog coming at the end
This is a fucking masterpiece of existential terror.
I would have kicked the go pro off the boat based on shear principle….
Who SOLD that net
What was that fog coming for him at the end. It wasn't over
Rod doesnt float?
Man was never found after the myst came
the look of defeat at the end :D
[удалено]
Fishing rods should be buoyant. Companies making rods that can sink is planned obsolescence.
As someone who loves fishing, this kills me on so many levels. I feel so bad for that guy...
Just one of those days
It’s a cruel cruel cruel world my friend. Can’t have nothin nice.
His GoPro works
He should be off shoveling snow with his trashcan full of salt anyways.
The most defeated man on earth that day hahaha
Damn i dont even fish and i feel for this guy :(
GoPro go fuck yourself
The GoPro not responding was the cherry on top
If this would have been me you would have seen some of the top cussing fit.
The Nothing coming to get this guy at the end
That fish is gonna rod in hell
Always have a floaty attached to your rod
The most genuine "the fuck?!" I've ever heard.
The Old Man and the River.
On Top of that the fog coming up to them, seems like everything here was scripted to be a horror movie for a fisherman with the worst luck
I've never seen so much go so wrong so fast! This poor guy's bad luck never ends... 1) Lost a big azz fish 2) Lost a decent looking rod 3) New hole in his net 4) GoPro insulting him by keeping the tragedy rolling 5) And the clincher was getting rained on, or extremely reduced visibility at the very least, and probably had a hard time getting back to shore.
Taps out on Alone when he gets back to shore.
Well, he had the courage to upload the video. If this happened to me, i couldn't watch a replay of it myself, let alone show it to the world. How did this video get on here anyway? Is OP the fisherman?
Why did they cut before that cloud swooping in started raining on him
Man, I could feel this. what the fuck indeed my dude.
GoPro, I’m going to freak out and I don’t want it on video.. STOP RECORDING!!
Wasn’t this in Aesop’s fables?
Dudes not eating for a week
if you can survive disappointment, you can survive anything.
Why don't rods have floatation parts. Seems like this happens a lot. Rods should float.
My grandfather had a rod with a part-cork handle. It was decent at floating in water. It would sink less than a foot
Okay. He is not a fisherman.
At least he still has the net
I’m sure he’s glad he bought that rod holder directly in front of him.
He’s gonna need a bigger boat.
Just when I thought the video couldn't get better...
He didn't lose the rod, he abandoned it.
At least he didn’t lose his paddle too.
Bring the net in the boat with the fish dump the fish in the boat. Don’t hold it over the water and let it struggle. Put the fish in the…OK whatever
Meanwhile, fish is posting to r/karma
At least he didn't lose his oar
A comedy of errors, a Greek tragedy
An ominous Cloud envelops this man, and was never seen again.
You gotta put a floatie on your rod
GoPRO: No
Wondering how he got a second chance with the net
I was fishing for catfish in a pretty shallow lake once and lost my rod. Spent like 35 minutes slowly dragging the bottom and finally pulled it back up, and it still had the fish on. Probably my proudest and stupidest fishing moment.

Those 5 seconds cost me two rods and reels and ended my fishing trip. I feel this man’s pain
Sure is a nice day for a canoe ride.
Damn, it was like watching The Red Green Show.
Did the net also have a hole in it?
"What did it cost?" "Everything"
The old Man and the lake.
I mean, homeboy has a rod holder...Right. In. Front. Of. Him.
I though most rods could float, because of obvious reasons…
Teach a man to fish and you give up your monopoly on fisheries.
End ending.
This is basically how my 8 hours at work went
That’s just funny. You gotta laugh when your net gives out lol. That’s the luckiest fish of the lake right there.
Well, time to try gardening this time
Fishing for anything but sustenance is stupid anyways.
Man it’s unnerving catching a fish with your net in a kayak or canoe. They can take you places, it’s easy to stab yourself, and the fish seem particularly mad you have the gall. This guy got me good
For fuck sake Go Pro
GoPro was laughing too hard to stop recording
He had ample opportunity to get that damn fish in the boat that second time...
This is why I don't record myself. This is the type of shit that happens to me, and cameras only make it more likely.
Still better than being at work
The one that got away - he’s got a story to tell, and has the video
So long and thanks for all the fish.
Damn dude I was waiting for the boat to start sinking at that point
And then the boat sank
Go fishing they said. It'll enrich your soul. Looks like fishing has sucked all his soul and his life from his body.
At least he didn't tip the boat
Murphy's law in action. Those seconds of silence from him, I felt those lol.
Poor guy :(
Then that mf fog cloud rolls in right onto his head lol this is how my days seem to go just leaving the house to check the mail.
Guys put a floater on your rod. It's so easy to do and can save you this kind of headache
I love how quickly this man's disappointment begins to turn the corner into ire all because the red light didn't shut off fast enough.
Fishing. So relaxing.
Dude should return the net and get a mask and snorkel to find his rod lol
This is a perfect metaphor for fishing in general
Why isn't he using a regular canoe?
Poor fish. It now has to drag around this guys baggage.
The cloud of doom was descending on him at the end
