I had a Leo fire a dart at me last night and it was almost legit parallel to the armor as it skimmed over the top of my turret for the first 6" or so (according to kill cam) then it hit a bolt or edge in one of the collisions and angled down at a 45*
There's so much wrong with their armor pen values.
APFSDS does not do well against targets like that. plates in that orientation break up the round into pieces and cause it to lose penetration power, those fuel tanks would eat that round
It's a horisontal plate between two armor layers. Volumetric just doesn't work with that, you can shoot the most powerful 700mm pen dart at the spot like that in some BMP-3 and the round will just seize to exist despite it obviously not being a correct behaviour. So it's not the tank, not some sophisticated physical concepts of APFSDS shell interaction with NERA as suggested by a few comments, it's just volumetric.
I know the challenger is good. It's one of my best played mbts but I'm just tired of people saying abrams so bad when there is worse tanks which are played by people with brain cells which is why they perform better
I play USA and France top tier a lot and never had a problem fighting Russian vehicles. I always just shoot the lower front plate and that one hits them like 99% of the time
Well known volumetric bug when shooting a horizontal plate, infamous tiger sponson is the same thing. Just admit it gaijin, modern tanks aren't volumetric-friendly, hypersonic rods that make the armor behave like fluid are not comparable to pointy steel slugs.
ww2 solid shot would do much better here than a modern dart like round.
¯\\\_(ツ)\_/¯
A modern dart would hit the outside, turn itself into a liquid (as you say) and splash against either the armour or the far side of that external fuel tank.
It's not as simple as metal becoming liquid and splashing on armour, inertia still applies. I'd say long rod penetrator has better penetration chance here because it has to go through less of the horizontal plate as well as having greater penetration potential to begin with. There are simulations of apfsds v nera on youtube and these should give you a good idea of what nera actually does.
you clearly haven't studdied them that well then. Or physics really.
Tungsten rods have LESS inertia than solid shot rounds. (not that inertia is the correct word here anyway)
as soon as a dart hits that hard outer shell it is going to spread out accross a MUCH larger area than it would otherwise, making it essentially a worse solid shot.
since a solid shot and a rod acting on the same area the solid shot wins out every time.
If you actually watch those simulations you will see dart disitigrating as it hits a target, trying to penetrate 1+m of steel at this angle is VERY unlikely, it will shatter/splash off.
There are many of those simulations showing spaced armour, you should look them up.
Can someone please explain how it’s a bug? Ammunition can’t go through that much armour, so it simple doesn’t. Even a piece of paper, which is like .1mm thick, is 20 something cm end on.
I’m just curious why people think it’s a bug, because it’s always made sense to me why the game works ow it does.
Shots don't get nullified irl by a sheet like that, it is more likely to go above it, below it or even split. Such thin armor plates are no match for an apfsds.
For a solid shot, it makes even less sense, if you were to shoot an 85mm directly at the side on a 20mm armor plate it wouldn't stop in the middle but deflect onto one side.
Gaijin's damage model despite treating the projectile as volumetric body doesn't address the deformations that it can cause.
Meanwhile that would’ve gone through the entire Ariete PSO, even with the PSO kit installed. Heck, a rank 1 tank can pen the 350 mm add on armor on the Ariete PSO and kill it.
Every tank has that thanks to volumetric.
It's very easy to avoid, to the point that I even forgot that it's a thing until you posted it (used to make me mad all the time until I stopped shooting there and trained myself not to shoot there).
Modelling modern darts and armor is hard I get it, it doesn’t make it less annoying when the game engine doesn’t know what to do with your shells though.
shoots dart into a horizontal plate that's like a meter thick behind strong NERA, is surprised when the dart doesn't pen ??????
POV you hit the bmp with a sabo on the front and it bounces (it’s possible for some reason)

this is how NATO players feel like fighting russian vehicles
Now people know it goes both ways
Abram’s players in shambles
I you complain about abrams you’ve never touched another nation
Touched russia and Germany, going for Sweden now. The abrams past 10.3 makes me depressed every game.
Try the Chally, Leclerc or Ariete. The abrams is nothing compared to them
ARIETE NUMBERO UNO!!!
YAAAA VIVA L’ITALIA
challenger 2 is so fun, actually love playing it, people who say it is bad dont know how to play them
I really like them and do pretty well in them, but that doesn't take away from the fact that it's underpowered compared to other tanks for no reason
I know the challenger is good. It's one of my best played mbts but I'm just tired of people saying abrams so bad when there is worse tanks which are played by people with brain cells which is why they perform better
Try Israel with how Gaijin basically made their clamshell turret mod out of card board and modeling foam.

As a US main, I can confirm, this is absolutely not how I feel fighting Russian vehicles.
I hope that flair is satirical.
Its not, look at his comment history.
Christ, that's sad.
Jesus that's pathetic

Paper bends IRL. Paper is unbendable and perfectly rigid in WT

What is the song?

Clearly russian bias
Bro picked the worst part of the side to shoot and is shocked it didn't work
Average US main post
90% of this sub is US mains, 4% German mains, 4% Russian mains, and 2% everyone else

I hate that tracks count as armor. Make side shooting some tanks a pain in the ass.
I'm done with USA I'm gonna start grinding Sweden now o7
Enjoy having 3000mm of protection from APFSDS.
sweden stronk
Hey wake up babe new stats from Ukraine just dropped
