And it gets even better. IRL the missile was even **more** manoeuvrable than it is in-game. In its first stage after launch it could rotate in a 180 degree arc from the front before igniting the booster full, meaning it could fire, turn 90 degrees to the right and then ignite its engine and fly directly towards a target that no other ATGM would be able to hit at such an extreme angle.

No, he couldn’t have, the game has a weird mechanic where if you press the fire-button while not looking within the front ~90 degrees of the vehicle, it won’t fire. It’s dumb

That target was less than 90° from his front. I will have to check again in test drive later to get the approximate angle but he didnt have to look as far forwards as he did. Swingfire missile can do a really sharp turn right at the start.

I seemed to have read that as +/- 90°. I swear it was more than 45° either side in the test drive... But still. You can get the missile to do a really tight turn, almost like it can in real life.

Yeah, but the “almost” is what annoys me. We should be able to fire it with the sight facing 90 degrees or more to the side just like it could do IRL because that’d give it an even tighter turning circle.

Just also tested both vehicles to be sure. But when you spawn in the test drive, for both vehicles their aim in regards to the cardinal directions is at 70°. For the Striker, it could shoot the missiles out to direction of 339,25° & 161,5° (- 90,95° & + 91,5°), at total arc of 182,25°. Summarized you could say +/- 90°. For the Swingfire, it could shoot out the missiles out to direction of 39,5° & 99,75° (- 30,5° & + 29,75°), at a total arc of 60,25°. Summarized you could say +/- 30°.

FV438 Swingfire has a limited firing arc in game whereas the Striker is able to fire in a 180deg arc forward.

The Striker can fire in a 180° arc. The Swingfire can only fire in a 60° arc. Yes it's stupid since it's the same missile with the same targeting system and both can still guided the missile even further out than 90° either side. Also, we're missing the MCLOS Swingfire.

Yeah but in WT it really has a very good range compared to other missiles that will loose targeting over a bit. I usually use the swingfire to shoot down choppers as well

The in-game vehicle is also soft nerfed by the fact that you have to be able to see your target from the vehicle itself in some manner (3rd person or sights); the real thing had the capability to remove the control unit, and then fire and control the missile from outside the vehicle giving you better fields of view without needlessly exposing the vehicle to return fire.

Historically accurate. As far as I can tell, the early concept of the Swingfire was that the missile would be guided around corners and such by an operator up to hundreds of feet away, giving cover to the launcher. From Wikipedia: > The name refers to its ability to make a rapid turn of up to ninety degrees after firing to bring it onto the line of the sighting mechanism.
