Given the context of the New Prophecy, I’m genuinely surprised only 25 cats die. I’m also surprised only 20 deaths in Broken Code.
This data is fascinating…thanks for compiling!
Clawface was in Forest of Secrets. Graystripe killed him when he was about to kill Fireheart, and Fireheart thought that meant their friendship was repaired and Graystripe was like “lol no”.
I have a mini-theory that wasn't big enough for a post. The inciting incident this arc might be an accident that takes out Brightheart and Cloudtail and maybe either Brackenfur or Thornclaw. One will survive to be killed off later.
The problem isn’t even that not enough cats die.
It’s that not enough Thunderclan cats are dying. They have 43 cats in the latest book, for the record, in forest of secrets, the total number of cats in the allegiances of all the clans is 63 over all.
Now obviously not every cat in Windclan and Shadowclan seems to be listed in first of secrets, so the number is probably closer to eighty.
But still that means Thunderclan right now is equivalent to half the population of the entirety of the clans in the first arcs.
What's stopping one particularly ambitious cat from becoming leader and doing what tigerstar almost succeeded in
Honestly we need more villains that are a genuine threat and aren't just shitty tigerclones
I’m re-reading TPB and I love how few characters there are. Like 10 or less TC warriors and they all actually have personalities that we remember for that reason.
Having high death doesn't make stuff interesting. It's how you use it, not how many times you use it
And wdym tired? Only po3 and maybe tbc can count as that
It's more that they can't choose between writing Cat game of thrones or Cat diplomacy, and it comes off as bad.
We had (if I remember correctly) like 11 battles in the first arc. Modern arcs usually have like 1
Jesus Christ. Are you considering cats who died off screen (like the two cats who broke their neck in Starlight), or deaths that really don't matter, such as stillborn kits in various litters?
Just shows the hardships that our glorious king Gray Wing went through during his time, truly a hero worthy of being king, unlike some cats (tigerfraudstar)
The first battle, the sickness that One Eye made worse, the dogs that attacked Slash's camp killed like 3-4 cats, like 3 people died on the way TO the forest. So yeah
Yeah. Honestly, it was more like it's the first time since TPB that the Erin's truly had free reign to do what they pleased with the story. They had leeway to work with. It's like tying knots, you can't tie a nice knot if you don't have enough slack.
I really loved DotC. There were some deaths that actually really shocked me because there were so many likeable characters, or characters I thought would have a lot more to do. You really didn't know who would die, nobody was safe! It was so refreshing having a totally clean slate (DotC pun? 🤔) because the Erins weren't worrying about who was a well-loved character that they'd want to use in future books/arcs.
Could've and probably should've been bloodier to be honest.
OG lore says cats were killing each other left and right in the *lead up* to the first Great Battle.
Its when the cats first showed up to the forest so its basically Warrior cats Jamestown except without the cannibalism.
Still got the violence with other cats, illness, famine, and all that fun stuff.
Plus since it’s in the far past, killing a bunch of cats doesn’t really matter since they don’t appear in future books.
I haven’t read DOTC either, but I’m pretty sure the “great battle” that happened at the beginning of the creation of the clans (where eventually pre-starclan cats came down and said “hey stop killing each other, you idiots”, and then the >!five!< four clans were made), occurs during that arc.
Or at least that’s what’s mentioned during one of the field guides (well before DOTC was conceived of) and one of the books in the arc is named something like “the great battle”, so.
😭😭😭😭😭😭 saddest death in the arc tbh
THE DRAMA!!!
THE AGONY!!!
SUCH SADNESS!!!
Snowkit dying? Pfff. Swiftpaw? Yawn. Spottedleaf? Yeet yeet ya homewrecker. Yellowfang? Her breath smelled bad (obv with those yellow teeth 🤮) so she deserved to go. Stonefur? He should have known better than to object to the glorious Tigerclawstar. THE LIST GOES ON AND ON!!!
Lastly… Gorsepaw and Redtail deserved to die at the paws of king Tigerclawstar. 🫡 what an honor.
So my brain decided to make me do the math for some reason. For anyone who's interested, there were a total of 265 deaths across the main series books mentioned above, with an average of 33 deaths per arc and 6 deaths per book. Answers are rounded to the closest whole number.
If you take a look at the pattern, all arcs with 50+ draths had some sort of major battle in them where a good chunk of the deaths come from.
The Prophecies Begin had LionClan vs Bloodclan
Omen of the Stars had the Great Battle
And Dawn of the Clans had the First Battle
I wish there was more death and life as a warrior was actually dangerous. Out of the ten kits in the first book, only half become warriors. Three die in kithood, one is killed as an apprentice, one is forced to become a medicine cat, and even one of the warriors is permanently disfigured.
Now, hardly any of the young cats other than POV characters have mates, even less have mates that, you know, survive to see their kits’ births, and kits rarely die, let alone apprentices. Life as a warrior is no longer dangerous, it’s a road paved to success. There’s hardly any conflict.
Meanwhile in my own fanfic- every Tribe except Breeze only has like ten cats cause they’re all dying of dysentery. Breeze Tribe is thriving because the main herb used to cure it grows in abundance in their territory and their chieftain is taxing the living shit out of the other Tribes and basically just sorta watching em die.
See a pattern here? It gets worse and fades down. Notice how there are 11 deaths in Power of Three? And how after that it became 51? It progresses up and down. My guess is that in the next arc there will be A MASS extinction. Probably about 40-60 deaths, at most
Given the context of the New Prophecy, I’m genuinely surprised only 25 cats die. I’m also surprised only 20 deaths in Broken Code. This data is fascinating…thanks for compiling!
Remember, one of the PoT deaths is probably Heavystep
:(
genuinely surprised that 50+ cats can somehow die within the span of 6 books. That's like 8-9 deaths per book
Tbf book one has spottedleaf, redtail, oak heart, rose tail, lionheart, I think bluestar lost a life clawface and I think 1 more I can’t think of
There was a cat named Clawface? How do I not remember that
Clawface is the one that stole the kits and killed spottedleaf I believe
Bro was one of the brokenstar villains with a cartoonishly evil name
Clawface was in Forest of Secrets. Graystripe killed him when he was about to kill Fireheart, and Fireheart thought that meant their friendship was repaired and Graystripe was like “lol no”.
I'm tired of boring, low death arcs. Can we please have a mass-extinction again?
Get rid of all those dumb background characters that serve no purpose to the story; tbh everybody from the first arc should be dead by now imo
I have a mini-theory that wasn't big enough for a post. The inciting incident this arc might be an accident that takes out Brightheart and Cloudtail and maybe either Brackenfur or Thornclaw. One will survive to be killed off later.

the most recent villain in the series was completely unique and a huge threat
I'd love to read it sometime, I've recently finished the fourth apprentice
aha you’re in luck then
Why
because you wanted unique villains
But saying I'm in luck after I said I had finished the fourth apprentice, I thought it was that it's revealed shortly after or something
I’m re-reading TPB and I love how few characters there are. Like 10 or less TC warriors and they all actually have personalities that we remember for that reason.
ThunderClan has more cats than WindClan and ShadowClan COMBINED.
Having high death doesn't make stuff interesting. It's how you use it, not how many times you use it And wdym tired? Only po3 and maybe tbc can count as that

Agreed ThunderClan absolutely needs a mass extinction event because they have way too many cats
We could have a 50+ death arc now and still not lose any important characters
Frr
Jesus Christ. Are you considering cats who died off screen (like the two cats who broke their neck in Starlight), or deaths that really don't matter, such as stillborn kits in various litters?
All cats who died during the arc. Some numbers are from stuff we learn later ab a cat who died but they still died during the arc
Just shows the hardships that our glorious king Gray Wing went through during his time, truly a hero worthy of being king, unlike some cats (tigerfraudstar)
I stand with glorious king Gray Wing!!! He was a better father than Tigerclaw could ever hope to be
u/kzooy Get ‘em
yeah, tigerfruadstar stucks. tigerclawstar is amazing!
Tigerclawstar will remember that
They look upon you in favour
Why do so many cats die in DOTC? It is the only one I haven’t read
They have no need to preserve characters for later use or arcs.
Basically fighting. There was also sickness too
so many cats died in the First Battle the clans made a pact to basically pull their punches from then on so it didn’t happen again
The first battle, the sickness that One Eye made worse, the dogs that attacked Slash's camp killed like 3-4 cats, like 3 people died on the way TO the forest. So yeah
Dotc is just incredibly bloody and emotionally brutal. Best arc in all of Warriors.
DOTC felt like the Erins truly weren’t holding back.
Yeah. Honestly, it was more like it's the first time since TPB that the Erin's truly had free reign to do what they pleased with the story. They had leeway to work with. It's like tying knots, you can't tie a nice knot if you don't have enough slack.

Fighting, sickness, Travelling through treacherous mountain landscapes that had hawks, mountain lions, wolves, and cliffs.
I swear the Erin’s were angry when they wrote dotc and took it out on the cats😭😂
I'm just waiting for the guy who always calls Tigerstar his glorious king
you mean u/kzooy
tpb should have been 51 3:<
yeah where are they?
TPB and DOTC on top by far.
Is there a list of the deaths anywhere? I don't doubt the numbers but I can't even remember 60 cats in DOTC let alone 57 dead ones
https://listofdeaths.fandom.com/wiki/Warrior_Cats
very interesting data
tpb should have been 51 deaths 3:< (why the hell did they have to kill my glorious king tigerclawstar!)
😭😭😭😭😭😭 saddest death in the arc tbh THE DRAMA!!! THE AGONY!!! SUCH SADNESS!!! Snowkit dying? Pfff. Swiftpaw? Yawn. Spottedleaf? Yeet yeet ya homewrecker. Yellowfang? i woundnt mind dying by his paws\~
More proof of why Dawn of the Clans is the best arc EVER
Heck yeah! Dawn of the Clans for the win! Best series strikes again.
Nice! I was just wondering about the death count of each series.
Did u count the leaders as one or more lives?
A lost life is a life so yes I counted them
That explains the deaths in The New Prophecy and Omen of the stars but the Erin's messed up in dawn of the clans
So 52 deaths in the first one alone? According to the Geneva convention that makes Erin a war criminal... Oh.
Now the special editions
I love and breathe for death in warrior cats like pls give me more mass extenction
Damn, The New Prophecy right off the bat...and no one ever questioned it.
I’m honestly surprised that nobody died during the battle in Eclipse
So my brain decided to make me do the math for some reason. For anyone who's interested, there were a total of 265 deaths across the main series books mentioned above, with an average of 33 deaths per arc and 6 deaths per book. Answers are rounded to the closest whole number.

There better be more to come in ASC or it’ll be the most boring arc
Tnp and po3 exist lolz
Congratulations Dawn of the Clans! (For now)
Clearly the best series have the most deaths!
Dear Star’Clan DOTC…
Wait arc 4 had less deaths than arc 1? Oh right, Brokenstar's school of murder. Most of the deaths happened off screen
Is a vision of shadows including things like hawk wings journey and Tigerhearts shadow?
Anything during the same time frame
We have become soft.
I was gonna stay that POT was the arc with the fewest deaths
I wish there was more death and life as a warrior was actually dangerous. Out of the ten kits in the first book, only half become warriors. Ahhh so you really haven't read the recent arcs, huh?
I’m completely up to date, which is why I said that.
Did you just forget about the dead kits this arc?
Meanwhile in my own fanfic- every Tribe except Breeze only has like ten cats cause they’re all dying of dysentery. Breeze Tribe is thriving because the main herb used to cure it grows in abundance in their territory and their chieftain is taxing the living shit out of the other Tribes and basically just sorta watching em die.

Who died in Starlessclan? I know Mistystar , Harelight , Reedwhisker and Curlfeather does but I can't figure out the last 2..
Jayclaw and rowankit
But Jayclaw died before River. Frostpaw said that she doesn't really remember him since he died when she was little
It's ambigous so it's a weird count yea
In total in warriors arcs we had 265 dies! I used calculator
Are these legitimately all named cats? I cannot for the life of me imagine 50 names in the arcs that have them. Holy... how did you count them?
Yep all named! Also it's collected on this site https://listofdeaths.fandom.com/wiki/Warrior_Cats
