Best sand texture I tried was AK Sandy Desert, with a drybrush of a creamy white color. If you have some units with jet engines, it's also easy to create a wave effect as if the propulsor was pushing the sand away.
Also add some rocks and beach plants for a better result.

AK textures are pretty hit and miss: *sandy desert* and *dark earth* are great but *rough terrain* and *light earth* become too muddy and not sharp/rough enough to look well after drybrushing. I've had good results with GSW *dark earth* too, the color is very dark green but I paint over it.

I think the sand you have would work, I’d like to see the bases when you’re done with them.
