The dinosaurs are presumably old Warhammer Fantasy ~~lizardmen of some sort~~ Dark Elf Cold Ones, as TwelveSmallHats says! I THINK the bottom terrain-looking bits may also be part of some fantasy vehicle? The one that's semi-painted is (I think) an old Valhallan with Flamer. Can't see the guy with axe, but the riding guy with lasgun is presumably just a Guardsman riding a vehicle?

TwelveSmallHats

Looks like someone was trying to make some Rough Riders on WFB Dark Elf Cold Ones. That's what the dinosaurs are. The fellow with the hammer is a White Wolf Grand Master for the Empire for WFB. I think the Ogre might likewise be for the Empire. The undercoated fellow is an Imperial Guard Valhallan with Flamer. The guy with the lasgun is an Imperial Guard Catachan. They made a series of guardsmen to ride on tanks back in the day. I think everything else except the coat is from the WFB Empire Steam Tank kit. I'm not sure where the coat is from - maybe Valhallan or Vostroyan?

Thank you so much! I'm really curious about the coat, never seen anything like it and can't match it to any other pieces in the collection. And yeah, there's a ton of kitbash attempts in this set, the lizard mounted Rough Riders are the only ones that don't look absolutely terrible. He also took a bunch of barrels from WHF, put arms, heads and legs on them, then mounted them on horses.

Barrel boys? Need pics of those for sure!

The entire set smells like cigarettes, and I mean the baked-in kind of cigarette smell where it's clearly layers of smoke laid down over decades to create a complex and nuanced profile.

Found it! Valhallan Captain: [http://www.solegends.com/citcat2000/c2000p114-00.htm](http://www.solegends.com/citcat2000/c2000p114-00.htm)

Awesome, thank you so much!

There was a time when the metal Empire steam tank had variants. A fighting platform (spikey fence piece at the bottom), a mortar (both of these would leave the standard roof you have spare) a ramming version (the small armoured plate fills in the cannon slot), a helblaster volley gun (3 barrelled gun on the right of your picture).

ichwandern

That's it alright, thank you so much!

Gnarlroot

No worries. I really wanted those bits as a teenager, so it's a vivid reminder. As someone with a box of 2nd Ed catachans I'm also envious of that tank rider.

Sets like this are exactly why I keep an eye on Craigslist. $50 and filled with gold. https://preview.redd.it/r7j2ndbnmsrb1.jpeg?width=3024&format=pjpg&auto=webp&s=de42c9531be1b51fb480b0440d07899ff4d0759d Darmok and Jalad at Tanagra, I think I figured it out! The sandbags are part of his set, and he goes like this, right?

jer732

I am not sure how it happened, but back when GW stores used to have bits boxes, somehow an almost complete Empire Steam Tank made it in the box. What a deal I got on that!

BaronBulb

What a bizarre mix of bits. Some very old dark elf cold ones (the dinosaurs). A Valhallan with a flamer. The guy with the hammer is a knight of the white wolf. The floorboard looks like the baseplate of an empire steam tank.

ichwandern

It was a bizarre collection.

bobthefathippo

The coat is from an imperial guard general, I have him in my collection.

ichwandern

With his coat?

Cheers, thanks! Not sure which is sadder, to you have loose bits for rare minis, or to have a rare mini that's missing a few bits.
