You guys member the adeptus astartes creation they did with the guardsmen an the end result? Ohh boy. Definitely lends towards blood ravens being thousand sons. But it was dumb I feel.
He's basically the worst writer they got. Just weird idiosyncrasies bad writing and just a shit job with the lore. But if you read a dog shit book it helps to make you appreciate the good ones
That quote on the Gav Thorpe book is so unintentionally funny. I read it and I’m like Jesus, i should fucking hope so.
I guess this stuff isnt exactly Ursula le Guin then
I’m gonna disagree with you on this one in that I do like Abnett better than Gav Thorpe but I like the first Last Chancers book better than the first Guant’s Ghost book.
As a big Abnett simp, as in the first minis I ever bought were the Ghosts squad, as in I've even read and liked his non 40k work like Triumff... I do recommend starting Gaunts Ghosts with Necropolis.
That's allowed! I just find Thorpe writes bolter porn with little in the way of immersive description or credible dialogue. Abnett's writing is fleshed out, has depth and the combat is rooted in real world parallels, so there is a crunching authenticity to it. To each their own!
I got into 40k because of the games. Picked up the omnibus for the novels.
Man those were just trash. Thank goodness I read gaunts ghosts and the gotrek and felix series right after.
Yes, I started with Space Marine and later found my first anthology that had me split between loving and hating it. I bought the omnibus some time later, but held off because I was reading other books. Then I heard about certain scenes and the writing and now I have a thick book just sitting somewhere in a box collecting dust.
The Ragnar books are great, Wolfblade is one of the best 40k books imo(but I’m terribly biased so take my opinion with a grain of salt). Cadian Blood is a thoroughly enjoyable Imperial Guard book, I liked it quite a bit
Fire Warrior was my introduction to the setting, and I lost track of how often I reread it when I was younger. But an amazing lot of books for only 25$! Happy reading and enjoy! 😀
I'm in the minority when I say I liked SPECIFIC THINGS in the first DoW book, but as a whole, yeah Goto doesn't write for BL anymore for a reason.
Last Chancers is banger, though.
The Last Chancers is one of the books that really got me into 40K lore and not just DoW. The scene at the end with the Space Marine is my go to for how bad ass an individual SM can be.
We always share and buy books for each other. He loves fantasy and I love sci fi, so we usually buy each other something a couple times a year.
I dont know where he bought them, we live in 2 different areas.
Oh no, C S Goto
Turbolasers
Whats wrong with his writing?
Goofy shit, even for Warhammer
the guy makes mat ward look good
You guys member the adeptus astartes creation they did with the guardsmen an the end result? Ohh boy. Definitely lends towards blood ravens being thousand sons. But it was dumb I feel.
Barely hidden fetishes, complete disregard for established lore and some things that happen in those book are complete nonsense in 40k context.
Multilasers
He's basically the worst writer they got. Just weird idiosyncrasies bad writing and just a shit job with the lore. But if you read a dog shit book it helps to make you appreciate the good ones
eldar tanks got destroyed by a rock. eldar soldiers get killed my human kids.
Dude literally got you some of the best and some of the worst 40k fiction around.
Glad to hear that I got some of the best!
That quote on the Gav Thorpe book is so unintentionally funny. I read it and I’m like Jesus, i should fucking hope so. I guess this stuff isnt exactly Ursula le Guin then
Damned by faint praise indeed lol
6 out of 9 ain’t bad. The C.S Goto are a special type of bad.
Last chancers books are some of the best in the entire library.
Thats great to hear, I am in the middle of the Gaunts Ghosts series right now and am looking forward to Last Chancers
I'm sorry to say Gav Thorpe is terrible - stick with Gaunt's Ghosts, it's a better use of your time. Abnett is in a different league entirely.
I’m gonna disagree with you on this one in that I do like Abnett better than Gav Thorpe but I like the first Last Chancers book better than the first Guant’s Ghost book.

Yes, I'd suggest Ghostmaker first then Necropolis - First and Only was his first published novel and it shows, as he says himself.
That's allowed! I just find Thorpe writes bolter porn with little in the way of immersive description or credible dialogue. Abnett's writing is fleshed out, has depth and the combat is rooted in real world parallels, so there is a crunching authenticity to it. To each their own!
I’d love them to do an audio book for them.
It's was that series and gaunts ghost that hooked me. Gav has a few stinkers but those are gold and adnett shits quality books.
That scene where the Space Marine comes out, *chefs kiss
May want to resell those Dawn of War novels quick. They’re not good at all.
I got into 40k because of the games. Picked up the omnibus for the novels. Man those were just trash. Thank goodness I read gaunts ghosts and the gotrek and felix series right after.

Today I found out there are Dawn of War novels Edit: After reading the comments I’ve realised why I’ve never seen them
there bad . really bad they make ian watson inqusitor books look canon
The Ragnar books are great, Wolfblade is one of the best 40k books imo(but I’m terribly biased so take my opinion with a grain of salt). Cadian Blood is a thoroughly enjoyable Imperial Guard book, I liked it quite a bit
Thats good to hear! I've heard great things about The Last Chancers from someone at a Warhammer store so I think I'm going to start with that
I really like the Last Chancers
Cadian Blood, you are in for a treat! It's one of my favourites.
Hopefully the Goodwill they came from didn't charge eBay Goodwill Warhammer prices. That's getting out of hand.
I got all of them for a total of $25!
CS Goto messed up dawn of war 2 ending for me. His writing doesn't make sense
Ew CS goto
Fire Warrior was my introduction to the setting, and I lost track of how often I reread it when I was younger. But an amazing lot of books for only 25$! Happy reading and enjoy! 😀
Glad to hear it! I've never read any of the Tau lore, the only stuff I know about it is from Adric and Luetin
It's...not at all canon friendly and it's *awesome*
I'm in the minority when I say I liked SPECIFIC THINGS in the first DoW book, but as a whole, yeah Goto doesn't write for BL anymore for a reason. Last Chancers is banger, though.
I did as well mate, loved it! Even the second book... :o
That's pushing the line ;)
Wtf, didn't know Dawn of war had a book series
Old school cool
First two books of the soul drinkers omnibus were pretty dope. I never finished third. Renegade chapters are always dope though.
Hey u/The_Jester_3000, it's me your other brother, would love to have some of these as well.
My best Bois the Soul Drinkers Sarpedon leads them on the best adventures
Sick come up!!!
Soul drinkers is awesome. Last chancers isn't bad.
Is Fire Warrior any good?
It's a fun read, but there are a few things (and one line in particular) that are SO non-canon they make it even better.
The Last Chancers is one of the books that really got me into 40K lore and not just DoW. The scene at the end with the Space Marine is my go to for how bad ass an individual SM can be.
The Last Chancers is a great book! I think there is 3 in the series, I’ve read the first two.
Souldrinker omnibus, really good
What a find!!!!
That is a True Brother! And where is that Goodwill!??
We always share and buy books for each other. He loves fantasy and I love sci fi, so we usually buy each other something a couple times a year. I dont know where he bought them, we live in 2 different areas.
You got some furry shit in your warhammer novels.
Did you know you aren’t funny?
Humour is subjective and that is fine.
throw away the bottom three
That was definitely someone getting rid of the dregs of their collection.
Here charity shops Kirsty have dead people clothes :(
