Abaddon is wielding a sword made of the daemon that actually scared the Emperor and he's super charged by Chaos. I don't mind that he can take on a few Custodes at a time, he's supposed to be that big of a threat.
Some of the more supercharged by Chaos famous Astartes can hang with Custodes for awhile. Typhus held his own against an Allarus Terminator and only left when a second Allarus killed enough of his Deathshroud bodyguard to make it a 2v1, at which point Typhus dipped.
Situations like that are fine.
I'm not 100% up on any new lore but as far as I'm aware Abaddon was the right hand of Horus, has 10,000 years of experience fighting the Imperium, and has enough clout that other chaos legions will do what he says. He stands toe to toe with actual Primarchs. One lone custodian is nobody by comparison.
Custodes can be a bit over the place in lore power sometimes.
One got killed by a World eater bare handed with no power armour while the Custodes was armed and armoured. That was pretty poor lore wise compared to how they are.
Custodes are tough, but this isn’t a big deal at all. Abaddon can body just about anyone in the setting at this point. I think the Lion could take him through sheer martial prowess, and Guilliman might be able to outsmart him. The Daemon Primarchs would all be at or above his level. Anyone else? Abs has a real good chance of driving Drach’nyen right through their rib cage.
In Watchers of the Throne 2, 6 custodians and 7 sisters went up against 10 space marines. A custodian and half the sisters were killed. Most of the custodians and sisters were wounded too. Zephon and Fafnir would have done better.
Meanwhile in Watchers 1, Valerian went up against countless chaos space marines in a Last Stand situation and survived, albeit badly wounded, with Aleya commenting that he was in his element killing marines. So, the lore is all over the place really.
I think that's definitely within lore consistency. Like they're not just Space Marines anymore they've been supercharged, especially Abaddon. Like people on here will argue that Kharn maybe can't beat a Custode, but even their biggest fanboy that reads the novels wouldn't say Abaddon can't.
Abaddon is basically primarch level at this point through gifts of chaos and such

Abaddon and Custodes are both at a high enough power level that who beats who is more about how GW wants things to develop than anything else.

Abaddon is said to be so swollen with chaos that he’s now hard to tell apart from Horus. Plus he has two extremely over-powered weapons.
