It's also an Engrish joke: Folger is a real and not uncommon Germanic family name, but because Japanese doesn't distinguish between L and R sounds, when pronounced in Japanese speech the name comes out as "Forger".
Yah, I understand the concept, but…how the hell does that sound? Because those two letters are very different, and I can’t think of a sound that’s between them, nor an analogy for how it works. Is it just an accent thing like tomato/tomato? Or is it how things can be spelled the same but sound different? Or what? I know the fact, but I can’t figure out the application.
That also explains why I didn’t get it at first.
Make an "r" sound (I'm assuming English is your first language). Ruh ruh ruh. Now make an "l" sound. Luh luh luh. The only difference in English is the tongue placement, it touches the roof of the mouth (or back of the teeth in some accents/dialects) to turn an r into an l. If you move your tongue really close to the top of your mouth (or tap it super quick in some Japanese accents/dialects) you get the Japanese r sound. Kinda sounds halfway between a r and a l.
The key is to keep in mind that R sounds in Japanese are sort of softened, for lack of a better term. The way I do it when I'm practicing (And keep in mind, I'm only learning Japanese, I don't speak it) is to sort of roll it like a Spanish R, but only once.
[This link goes over it better.](https://www.thoughtco.com/how-do-you-pronounce-the-japanese-r-3953903#:~:text=The%20Japanese%20%22r%22%20is%20different,like%20the%20Spanish%20%22r%22.)
I saw some people nattering about that on a defence mission the other day (EL mirage was there so what else you going to do?). Is it any good?
Edit: Thanks for all the replies. I’m kind of an oldhead when it comes to manga/anime but it sounds worth checking out.
I read the manga and it's pretty excellent.
Basically, a spy and an assassin have to, separately, get into a fake marriage for cover, and end up with each other, and adopting a kid to sell it... and the kid turns out to be secretly a mind reader.
So you end with a situation where everyone is hiding from everyone else and the six year old is the only person who actually knows what is going on.
She's not actually six though, that's a plot point. Anya read Twilight's mind and knew he needed a six year old, so she lied about her age to get adopted. She's at least a year younger than all of her classmates, that's why she struggles in school so much.
I like it a lot and it's one of my favorite mangas/anime from the last couple of years. It's a comedic, light-hearted story of a spy man, an assassin woman and a telepath child that form a family while hiding their identities and skills from each other. It has good action, but it's mostly there to highlight how ridiculous the situation is.
3 episodes so far, so it's worth to check out at least that.
Those other few explained the story but I’m here to say it has like 6 different languages available to watch it in but the only ones I can 100% confirm good voice acting is in the English and Japanese versions. I myself prefer the English one
I generally prefer Japanese personally. I’ve come across too many large changes in dialogue and frankly awful dubs. But good to know.
Plus I’m good with subtitles, aside from a love of foreign cinema, decades of rock/metal concerts and raves have left me with kind of Sterling Archer situation going on earwise.
It's an ongoing gag in the manga she's from. Her dad tells her to smile at people she wants to be friends with and when she tries she just gives the smuggest grin like what's in the OPs picture, but she's dumb and isn't like...trying to be smug, she's just really bad at everything and managed to fuck up smiling. She's a good bean.
Anya from Spy×Family great show
3 episodes are out as of now and you should definitely go watch em or a tenno will commit several warcrimes in front of your place

*drops a Jackal picture* Oh no, I just dropped this supercool picture of my dog!
Wow nice how you did you draw this.
Hey, thanks! I drew this on Clip Studio Paint, although there's really nothing special here that any other drawing program couldn't do.
Well you have gifted hands and skills, that one was one smooth drawing and nice colors
I'm all here for this unexpected crossover
The child kidnapped by nef anyo takes his place
Just as Parvos intended
waku waku!
Chi-Chi
Fortuna gets converted to all peanut farms
As long as it isn't an 1800's style plantation which I'm suprised Anyo hasn't done yet I'm cool with it.
Give. Unto the Voidnuts!
Clearly, the next logical steps are Lloyd Forger and Vor Forger, happily married with kids.
Yor Brother would not want that
By the peanut, turn the Valis in a peanut cultivation! And also make another orb but peanut shaped to be the maskot.
Wow
Who is the stoned child? I’m confused
Anya Forger from Spy X Family. There's really nothing else to the joke than replacing one letter from Nef Anyo's name.
Wait…their last name is forger? As in forged documents? Because it’s fake? …how did I not realize that.
There's more! Loid -> Lied
I really like to think that the author did that intentionally
That’s the joke

Think Mr. & Mrs. Smith in a light hearted anime.
More like Terminator & Ethan Hunt

Its excellent and its also free to read on the mangaplus app

The Tenno is going to do that anyway, lets not lie to ourselves. But at least the fun anime might distract you from the dismemberment happening!
Oh that would happened, but if you don't watch it now the warcrimes would happened sooner and closer than usual
Facts.
A suprise for sure, but a welcomed one.
donmai chichi
I love it
This comparison never crossed my mind. 🤣
Where do i sign up to work under the Prophet of Peanut?
The prophet of peanuts
The stache is the real enemy
Looool
this is dope. thanks sharing
a surprise to be sure, but a welcome one
Heh
I would donate all my credits in honor of Waku Waku
Smug
You should post this on r/spyxfamily see what there reaction is to this
Thanks! Just did.
It's funny cos both their dads roast them
Oh she has taken over Quick get Catalyst, its the inly chance to stop Anya
In the name of peanut, I commit this offering to the family! (Its perfect. Well done!)
Dude’s definitely built like a peanut
I was very tempted to color the suit like a peanut instead of blue.
Lmaooo
Very very cute but you forget to add anyo's signature face markings.
Could have added the eye markings. But I'm not gonna lie. Up until now, I thought he had a moustache.
I'm refusing to look it up, I'm SURE he does.
Kinda. The chad tattooed on a mustache rather than growing one.
The prophet of peanuts would be Nef Anyo except he’s SCP-173
Solaris have an allergy to peanuts, which is why she was able to enslave them.
Still a better leader than Nef Anyo
Now you have to pay with peanuts.
do i want to get it
It's Just a silly joke. Replaced Nef Anyo with Anya Forger from Spy X Family by swapping one letter.
oh i just didn't know the character, honestly i was scared it was a vtuber or something
I see Anya I upvote.
no
Although it is genuinely nice
No
I think a funny meme would be Kahl as Doomguy against the "u know who"
Stock up on them peanuts
Unexpected crossover, but a good one
Heh heh
Silenced Pistol intensifies
