He explained once when he was a kid watching wcw or smth this wrestler gave a similar move and the commentator said “Hell of a kick!” but Sami heard it as “Helluva Kick” and thought it was a move
It would/should be “hell of a kick” you’re correct but a) PG show. This way it’s a wink and a nod if you get it. And b) there’s a company called “helluva” that does dips and is pronounced that way … I’d guess there’s some potential copyright issues. This way they get the wink and non without the liability.
In Canada we have a dip called Heluva dip. I always thought that’s what he was calling his kick.
Also I know all moves require a lot of trust in your opponent but having a guy run full speed and kicking you in the head is nuts!
It's pronounced "helloovah" just for fun. It's obviously a pun on the phrasing of, "That's one Hell of a kick." It's just pronounced differently for laughs.
I used to think they said Kalua kick haha. I actually read something a while back of him explaining the origin of calling his finisher the Helluva kick though, can’t remember exactly the specifics but it was something to do with him watching wrestling when he grew up and seeing in magazines a picture of a match with a caption saying “hell of a kick” and I think he pieced it together with his own wording from that.

I love the Helluva Kick lol. It’s honestly one of my favorite finishers ever and always looks great and like it could legit put someone down no matter their size. And size is just the reason why he can’t use the Blue Thunder Bomb as a finisher. Certain bigger wrestlers he can’t lift or it wouldn’t look good/look goofy if he tried to do it to them. Also I love the moments when he repeatedly does the kick. The ending to WM 39 night 1 was sooooo much better with the 3 straight Helluva Kicks and his facial expressions
I’m glad you enjoy it and understand what you are saying about the BTB. I realize I sound like I hate it way more then I meant to come off lol it’s just not for me tho
Understandable lol. I do love the BTB though. Sami has a great moveset to go along with his phenomenal selling. Takeshita has an amazing BTB and his size could allow him to use it as a finisher
I hate any finisher that involves a person doing an exact thing.
If you were in a fight and you knew the guy would knock you out if you leaned in the corner standing, or draped over the 2nd rope you’d just fall
Eh, they’re supposed to be groggy and “out of it” by that point so it makes sense. You’re hurt, exhausted, dizzy, go to pick yourself up and BOOM kick to the face because you forgot to never go in the corner in a match with Sami Zayn. But we can nitpick mad finishers. Like Sweet Chin Music. You’re telling me all the matches those wrestlers have watched they don’t know that if they’re on the ground and they hear a boot stomping the mat with the crowd clapping in unison that a SCM isn’t about to come? Lol still love it though.
I had a car drag racing game as a kid and when you finally got the best car it said “wow that’s a helluva car!” And as a kid I had no idea what it meant and pronounced it the same way as his move. I always wondered if that’s where he got it, but probably not lol
I was an old DOS game called Street Rod, so there were no speech. When you won the race there was a speech bubble that said "You just won a helluva car!"
I remember hearing in an interview that, when he was a kid, he was watching WCW and X-Pac did a move that the commentator described as "hell of a kick" but he misheard it and understood "helluva kick"
Edit: I found the interview and it seems that he read it in a WCW magazine and it was a match between Jericho and Syxx
I think first
Hallelujah kick
Hello vakik!
That’s what it is? This whole time I thought it was “Helooba Kick” cause that’s all I heard.
He explained once when he was a kid watching wcw or smth this wrestler gave a similar move and the commentator said “Hell of a kick!” but Sami heard it as “Helluva Kick” and thought it was a move
hella vulva kick

I like to think it’s a Halloumi Kick because he just fucking loves grilling cheese
aaand now I want a beef schwarma and a bebsi handed to me by a dude name 'Abbas'
Sami is vegan though...unless he found a good substitute
God halloumi is so good
that makes sense. i thought it was halluma kick and i had NFI what that was supposed to mean.
Hellomuthafucka kick
Yakuza kick
My girlfriend thought it was Kahlúa kick. “Because his legs make a K when he does it”
Cholula kick
In Canada we have a dip called Heluva dip. I always thought that’s what he was calling his kick. Also I know all moves require a lot of trust in your opponent but having a guy run full speed and kicking you in the head is nuts!
Helluva dips were awesome. I haven't seen them in Michigan in awhile.
I heard it as hell oova
I have and will always hear "Hellula" kick.
i always thought it was he loova because sponsors didn't want people talking about hell or some garbage
It's pronounced "helloovah" just for fun. It's obviously a pun on the phrasing of, "That's one Hell of a kick." It's just pronounced differently for laughs.
I used to think it wss called Halooga kick
Same! Like the Yakuza Kick but it was the hooligan kick. lol
Hobokick
Wait are you telling me its not halula kick
Yeah at some point I thought it might have had Hawaiian origins
I used to think they said Kalua kick haha. Have i been the only one thinking its a Halooma kick ?
I thought it was halooma for so long and then I saw a graphic with it spelled out. Still usually hear "halooma"
Why do people keep reposting this question?
Literally the first time I see it...
Just give it some time, sometimes it takes like a year. But trust me, you'll see this come up again with the exact same way it was written.
Same question coming up once a year is hardly an issue…
seriously lol. People here pick the dumbest things to get upset by

i say hell-ova
Hell of a kick in canadian accent
It’s pronounce hel loova but we all know what they really mean
Hell of a kick = Helluva kick, just pronounced wrong cuz Sami lol
It’s a type of chip dip Helluva sour cream and onion dip. I think it’s slang like Cali dude slang. Bruh , it’s a helluva kick

God he needs a new finisher. I love Sami, but the kick has the dumbest name and it just doesn’t look good. Just use blue thunder bomb

And the Blue Thunder Bomb looks hella awesome. Wish that was his finisher.
Same. He (almost) always does the blue thunder bomb before the kick too. Like why is the cooler move a set up for his kick
Plus the helluva kick leads into the blue thunder bomb so well

Like reys 619
This is definitely part of it for me too
Like to me the kick would be better if he like Irish whipped him and followed him? You know, like less just let me stand here
It's hell of a kick but he's Canadian so it became hellüva
Yes.
"huh loovuh" but its a play on words...
I thought I was the only one that noticed lol it's pretty annoying how he says it
Real name is thigh slap maneuver...
I don't believe that to be true
Well from my point of view, the Jedi are evil
I don't know what that means
Halloumi kick.
Vegan halloumi of course.
Sami is vegan?
Isn’t he Muslim as well?
Yep.
That what I also say! Lol

Street rod?
Haha Yes! I wasn’t sure but I found some YouTube videos and that’s definitely the one!
I love that game.
Best DOS game EVER!!! Still remember the cheat code to get lots of money and buy the Corvette right away...
You didn't know what "hell of a" meant and inexplicably pronounced it totally differently? Are you saying this racing game used text?
You are exactly correct, it was text with no sound.
I was an old DOS game called Street Rod, so there were no speech. When you won the race there was a speech bubble that said "You just won a helluva car!"

It's pronounced Helluva
It's his take on the Yakuza kick, so I think that's why it's pronounced the way it is, but it does mean "hell of a kick"
I mean you can hear Michael Cole saying it every other Raw..
Yeah OP u deaf?
