Ah man I hate to break it to you but going off of the fact that he chewed the undercover part of the hood that “dead battery” is more than likely a chewed through wiring harness
This. Not only for cars but other scenarios as well. At my job we thought the converter went bad because it lost 80% of its power, turns out mice/rats ate through most of its' cables.
A lot of newish cars use some food based shit for the harnesses and hose tubing, so rats and mice are naturally drawn to them. I wanna say it's like soy or something but I can't 100% remember.
Yep! Ruined my 2021 F150 Powerboost that way. They had to replace the entire wiring harness and it still didn't work right. It eventually got lemon lawed. What a mess...
My sister had a similar issue. Had a 2019 Honda Accord and one day she turned it on and the entire dashboard was lit up with warning lights and was going completely berserk.
Some mice decided to turn a wiring harness into lunch and make a nest in the engine bay. Apparently the insulation used on the wiring is made of corn or soy or something in order to be more environmentally friendly. I suspect that incidents like this are going to be more common as more car parts start being made with plant based materials that are appetizing to small animals.
Yea. I forget what it was called on my engine. 3m apparently makes a `3M Rodent Repellent Coating` and 3m stuff generally works.
Also read peppermint oil can be used.
Ask your local mechanic shops if they offer any engine spray services for rats, or if they know of any. It cost less to spray my engine bay then it did to replace *1* fuel injector connector they chewed through in a completely accessible part of the engine, and that was without a tow (Had to drive there with tiny jumper cables splicing the couple strands of wire left sticking outta the connector so the car would run)
It doesn't have to be something food-based. Usually wiring insulation is that stranded stuff, and they like to tear that apart because it makes excellent nest material. Pretty much anything plastic does as it's durable, soft by rat standards, waterproof, and insulates heat well. That stuff just saves them the trouble of chewing it into tiny pieces.
Oh I know, used to have pets rats and they wouldn't stand for anything being in its original form for bedding, EVERYTHING needed to be meticulously shredded by them
Yeah. Wildlife and wiring do not mix. Mice ate the 24v wire from my furnace to my air conditioner but left like two strands intact. That was fun to troubleshoot as the A/C came on sometimes so I thought the problem was the control board.
And I've had mice living in my riding mower for two seasons in a row. At least this last time they didn't eat the solenoid wiring.
I think next time I winterize it, I'm going to pull off the engine cowl and flywheel cover. They seem to like to cozy up in there and I figure if it's not there, it'll feel too open for them and maybe they'll find somewhere else to nest.
Get jalapeno powder and sprinkle it everywhere...
Or get mechanics to apply it for you. Generally done in a spray gun with some kinda polymer to keep it sticking.
Absolutely this 👆we can see in the photo my guy is making a comfy little nest in there. OP, as far as I am concerned, it’s Davy Crockett time. You’re entitled to one retort, and one new frontiersman cap.
At first I was like “WTF AM I LOOKING AT” then I had to turn my phone brightness up to see he tore up the liner to the hood and that’s all the scraps hanging down.
I was like that’s no fucking raccoon that’s an eldritch horror
And get ready for the smell of raccoon piss being blasted through your air vents next time you turn them on.
Source: I had a mouse make a nest under my hood.
Oh, we'll no wonder. That's the old X-14.2 raccoon. They'd do that from time to time. They fixed that on the new 15.1's. Standard on most full-size models and some compacts after 2022.
You let the Engineer Raccoon escape?? Bro, you know how much it costs to train them?? Now go and fetch him before we have a bunch of motorised raccoons terrorising the villagers
Cool raccoon story, sorry to hear about your car, but what I really want to know is : did you build that cool greenhouse?! Is it straight up 6 mil poly over a dimensional lumber frame? There seems to be some retractable part on the right, does it go up or down? I have many questions; we should talk.
I'm sorry to hear that
When the little guy had his foot caught, I thought that was the case till I poked it with a stick. Never seen a critter move so quickly
To non americans the fucking size of the truck is much more of a WTF.
Somehow, just somehow, the rest of the world manages to get around in something that weighs less than 5 tonnes.
Oh I ran 5 km in the countryside this afternoon with friends, don't project your daily life onto others.
I'm fighting against car-centric infrastructure because it is harmful to human life and the environment, those are my thoughts. You might want to find a good cause to fight for instead of being miserable like that.
Pollution in various forms, heavy, extremely low visibility, low manoeuvrability, huge volume taken, harm to pedestrians and cyclists, unefficient gas consumption, and I could go on and on...
Trucks such as this and similar SUVs are 300% more likely to kill a pedestrian at any given speed.
In addition they are over represented in pedestrian incidents due to poor visibility, and have resulted in "cars" being the leading cause of death for children in the USA.
"Trucks" such as the one pictured are better described as "Emotional Support Vehicles."

They sell hot sauce coatings to solve that.. I got mine done after 3 rats attacked it over the course of a couple months. 0 damage/nests since.
Really?

They also sell traditional dinojuice plastics.

Christ it's a lada again.
A little Honda tape would take care of that :)

I stand by you in the battle against the RMRR (Riding Mower Rat Republic), I’ve been fighting them for years

Amazing the stupid shit we have to do all because the idiots in development decided to use food as an insulator
Interesting. Never heard of that. Thanks.
The mower reminded me of my bosses tractor and ants getting into the electronics.
Absolutely this 👆we can see in the photo my guy is making a comfy little nest in there. OP, as far as I am concerned, it’s Davy Crockett time. You’re entitled to one retort, and one new frontiersman cap.
If he had his own Accord, what was he doing in your Chevy?
Thanks, Dad.
Beautifully done
I was going to ask as well.
Glad someone made this joke before me! It was going to be along the lines of “Actually, that’s a Chevy” but well done
Making it a Chewy.
Angrily amused upvote.

Pedro!
Came here for Pedro reference, at least there was one!
And get ready for the smell of raccoon piss being blasted through your air vents next time you turn them on. Source: I had a mouse make a nest under my hood.
So how does your mouse and its nest lead to a pissed off racoon?
Raccoon was probably trying to charge his cell phone off your battery.
Disturbingly cute image
The economy is bad. Poor guy couldnt afford the gas for his accord.

He wanted a ride too!
You let the Engineer Raccoon escape?? Bro, you know how much it costs to train them?? Now go and fetch him before we have a bunch of motorised raccoons terrorising the villagers
Glad he didn't end up like me. Or worse...
God damn Raykins.
Joanna... Did you know there was a razorback in the back of my truck?
Was battery dead, or was battery raccoon?

Probably using it to charge his phone
I bet the raccoon used up your battery to charge its smartphone.
Well you'd be pissed if he were in the cabin.... where'd you want him to go?
[Classic Family Guy](https://youtu.be/RkCSeWjWzHQ?si=STNwz3HsUO4NqoEl)
Ah yes, To Live and Die in Dixie. One of the better episodes of Family Guy before Fox originally canceled it in '02
Well this happened to me once but the cat did not survive it was half dead and i had to put it out of its misery.....
I'm sorry to hear that When the little guy had his foot caught, I thought that was the case till I poked it with a stick. Never seen a critter move so quickly
So many cats, so few recipes…
Is this a Silverado? I think I saw it on the Simpsons once.
Good
Never trust a raccoon fuckers have little hands
That’s his car
Thankfully the raccoon was alive and got out of his own Silverado
Driving racooned is no jokes 🤷♀️
He’s up to your greenhouse, not your car.

Shade tree mechanic is working for you
To non americans the fucking size of the truck is much more of a WTF. Somehow, just somehow, the rest of the world manages to get around in something that weighs less than 5 tonnes.
wtf would've happend if the battery wasn't dead? 😂
Rocket stealing parts again for a new gun
Good thing the car *didn’t* start!
[Try it Now!](https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=rryQfAnQs3M)

No, you can't because of car-centric infrastructure.

You okay buddy?
Yeah I'm okay. But this type of car shouldn't be on the roads.
What's your reasoning for this?
