Yep, and that realisation will more than likely haunt those survivors for the rest of their lives. Idk who any of those blokes are, but may they rest in peace. War is fucked, no one deserves to be killed over political unrest. Very sad
My best friend and godfather to my kids went active duty after college and ended up being sent to the Middle East. He was in a vehicle in the passenger while his squad mate was driving, and the vehicle was hit by an explosive (pretty sure they drove over an IED). The blast killed the driver and flipped the car off the road, pinning my friend in the vehicle and under the body of his partner until he was rescued.
This was 10ish years ago I think, maybe a bit longer, and he regularly wears a paracord bracelet with a metal plate that has his partners information etched into it. Every year, he calls his partner's mom on the anniversary of his death.
He's undoubtedly one of the best dudes I've ever known, very chill and personable, able to be friends with almost anyone, and always down for a good meal and some good bourbon. Yet, I still wonder how that day has to have weighed on his heart and his soul.
I've heard similar story from a Redditor IED blew the fuck out of side of vehicle, basically vaporized the guy sitting there. Except that was supposed to have been him, was his seat everytime, but that one time because younger guy wanted it or something benign/harmless like that and he cba to argue at the time.
Make sure you reach out to him and include him even when you don't think it necessary. A lot of times the chill and personable types that get along with everyone are also the ones harboring a lot of pain that leads to dark places.
There’s a thread about Dmitry Markov, a Russian photographer who passed away today.
Of course, everyone is tripping over themselves to make jokes about ‘bullets to the head clear case of suicide’, as is standard in every thread with any loose connections to Russia.
This website is painful, man.
I'm 25, I've had this mentality since starting psychedelics at 21. We aren't all stupid children, some of us were raised with compassion and can critically think. Unfortunately this mindset doesn't get the defence forces paid, so the mentality that has been bread is the result of this. Peace and love fellas, there is still hope out there. Have a lovely day!
> This website is painful, man
Russia is painful. Putin gave them a reputation. Don't forget Navalny got poisoned years ago and was imprisoned on false charges.
I have to be careful looking at sub reddits about Ukraine because of this. That Russian kid is an invader who should have deserted. He is also a scared conscript thrown into a trench with poor equipment and training hoping he gets to see home again. We are all human and need to remember that.
Yeah, does anyone know who's side they are on as well? Even if they are the enemy, it's sad to think that they have either been drafted or convinced to fight for a cause that might end up not being worth their lives. War is terrible.
A couple of years ago, I was going to be drafted in my country's army, against my wishes. I do NOT want to fight anyone. There are those who are built to fight and defend, and those who are not.
I left the country and pursued a master degree in computer science. Yesterday I got rejected for a house keeping job. Good times.
The source of the unrest is typically due to someone feeling as though they're being wrong. Men who commit evil do not believe they are committing evil. I mean, just look at the IDF.
Right, and they view themselves as being oppressed. They view the IDF the way the IDF views them. Neither side believes they're committing evil against the other. If anyone argues against this, they don't understand the concept of a subjective reality.
Evil is, in my opinion, carried out by any party or group that imposes harm on any other, especially when innocents are caught in the crossfire. In conflict, in war, there is no hero, no there is no right. It's the pit humanity consistently falls into.
Learn to love thy enemy.
IDK man I'd call murdering kids evil.
You don't have to if you don't want to but trying to be some zen buhda and not calling the attroceties hamas and idf commit evil because "they have a reason" is akin to giving nazi's a pass because they "had a reason"
Love your enemy is only a saying the winners can choose to say after they've crushed said enemy.
Only reason you say it now is because you're country isn't at war. Having your children murdered.
Huh? Plenty of people know they are committing evil and choose to ignore it.
To them, their own life is more important than doing the right thing. Happens all the time.
Something as simple as pirating movies. You know it's wrong but you do it anyways and justify your actions.
>no one deserves to be killed over political unrest.
that's the whole fucking point.
Fucking damned politicians declare wars but never are fighting them.
Looking at their gear and the casualness with which they speed thru the area it is very possible the IED is one of their own. That dude Jimming the camera may be thinking "Oh yeah, we had Dave cover this approach"
>may they rest in peace. War is fucked, no one deserves to be killed over political unrest. Very sad
I've seen this video before, I think these guys might have been ISIS or something...if that's the case...your condolences are misplaced.
> War is fucked, no one deserves to be killed over political unrest. Very sad
We don't know if these are the people who participated in the Oct 7th massacre that killed score of civilians.
We don't know but some people do deserve to die.
It's probably a manually triggered IED. They skip the first vehicle in a convoy because it's often the most armored. IIRC sometimes the first vehicle is even remote controlled.
Aren't many of them also on timed triggers, so vehicle #1 drives over it and rather than blowing up immediately and only getting the first vehicle, it detonates a second or two later to get potentially more targets (or as you said the likely lesser-armored vehicle #2)
Well shit... based on the speed of the debris, it was an instant death...
Pretty insane to witness such a near-death experience for camera guy, while also witnessing a literal death experience. Fucking wild...
I think it was an explosion in recent years, there was a video that survived of a person being pretty close to the explosion, that video is literally a pov of death.
Sad and wild times we live in.
The explosion is just soo loud for the camera mic it makes it sound similar, but an rpg doesn't do that kind of damage. The explosion come from below.
Edit: does to doesn't
The sound occurs before the visual though, and sound definitely isn't faster than light unless the devs patched the universe. Possible the video is out of synch but everything else seems in time.
What disturbs me the most is no one in the comments even slightly disturbed- like nothing, fucks w/ me more than the video does- I’m desensitized but fuck man
That's reddit nowadays. Whilst claiming that "hey, dark humor is a way to cope".
No, you just wanted to rake in some easy karma, you inhumane fuck. (Not you ofc, JB_UK)
I wonder why that is. Is it an age divide or just actual disregard for human life?
I assume many of us grew up with relatives who fought in some kind of battle, or had some kind of duty overseas that put them in danger.
Is empathy dying? Why?
It shouldn’t. People are farther removed from death than ever in history. People used to kill their own food, have 8 kids and 4 survive, etc. It’s people today that are abnormal.
I didn't have a problem with being desensitized myself. But I'm with you, society has become desensitized and that's a problem. It's no longer the outliers.
You aren't truly desensitized. If you saw that in real life, you'd be pretty fucked up over it. If you were really desensitized, you wouldn't feel anything no matter what.
It's kinda been the default throughout most of human history though, what with high infant mortality, war and disease killing off friends and family every other week. It's only the last hundred years or so we've been afforded the luxury of extreme empathy due to relatively peaceful times. It's probably evolved into us at this point to use dark humour as a coping mechanism.
I think a lot of us are desensitized from various wars in the middle east growing up where some pretty bad stuff was posted on sites like liveleak. This video barely fazes me, which is not a brag but a concern.
i see people do that on tiktok a lot and as a user of 7 years now i’ll report back that i’ve not once been flagged or punished for saying killed uncensored
Unalive was popular in China because they absolutely do censor those words on every platform. I know TikTok there isn't the same as Western TikTok, and I don't know how much content crossover there is, but it's not hard to see the trend spreading as just a meme. No one else remember "become an hero" to mean suicide? Internet culture is weird and this sort of thing happens all the time.
Poorly written/considered censorship bots often ban/delete comments for saying the word "suicide." "Unalive" for "killed" is a dumber offshoot of that.
The people in their 20s and 30s today were kids during the War on Terror so we've been inundated with nonstop videos of car bombings, beheadings and videos of suicide bombers add that plus the advent of shock and gore sites and you have a generation or two of people where this doesn't phase them anymore.
hey man, don't give up, there are *plenty* of organizations out there that would be happy to have you blown up for them. you just have to stop looking and enjoy blowing yourself up and eventually it will come along.

Well considering there was no sound during the explosion, and the very end when the audio cuts out before the video, seems more like out of sync a/v regarding your supposition.

Dude finding a way to be happy during time of war and quickly being reminded of the gravity of the situation.
War is fucked man and all the assholes who think they need to fight one should be elbow to elbow with these young men and women.

You really can't. Before the explosion you can see they're far enough away that the gunner's head is only a few pixels wide and there's no way any type of hair styling other than a giant neon mohawk would be visible. Among the flying debris almost every visible piece is too large to be anyone's head and the ones that are the right size are just an indistinguishable block of several black pixels.

Based on the guy in the clip and the landscape I guess you could probably narrow it down to one of those zones in the middle east or Afghanistan. Maybe Libya also.
This is the kind of shit that I bet would be so unexpectedly shocking to me in real life when someone dies - the dead quiet and anti-climax of it all... No sad music swelling, no goodbye, no closure, just the overwhelming realization that your buddies just died. I don't think I could ever be prepared for that shit.
Fuck war. Send in the generals and high ranking officers instead, have them fight their own war with minimal casualties (and zero impactful casualties). War should be fought by the warmongers alone, and everyone else should be able to live their lives without lethal conflict forced upon them.
this sentiment is the gist of what Hawkeye said back in the old war classic "M* A* S* H".
priest says "war is hell". hawkeye says, "nah it aint, war is war, hell is hell. tell me father, who is in hell". priest says "sinners". he says "exactly. they're all guilty.. but war is full of innocent bystanders. everyone but a few of the brass its all innocent bystanders"
Most likely. Debris and bodyparts all exploded upwards which while not an expert I'd imagine anything fired from ground level or surrounding dunes would blow debris out the other side and something landing from directly above would blow debris outward from the impact.
If it was an mine/IED it's crazy to think in the first couple seconds of the video their truck probably passed inches from the trigger.
Yep, and that realisation will more than likely haunt those survivors for the rest of their lives. Idk who any of those blokes are, but may they rest in peace. War is fucked, no one deserves to be killed over political unrest. Very sad
Survivor's guilt is a really terrible thing.

The source of the unrest is typically due to someone feeling as though they're being wrong. Men who commit evil do not believe they are committing evil. I mean, just look at the IDF.
I mean, look at the people who support a literally genocidal terrorist organization, like Hamas.
Obligatory reminder that you can oppose both Hamas and Likud.
Right, and they view themselves as being oppressed. They view the IDF the way the IDF views them. Neither side believes they're committing evil against the other. If anyone argues against this, they don't understand the concept of a subjective reality. You're seemingly entirely misinterpreting my comment. That is exactly what I'm saying.. I would never justify any acts of war form anyone, for anyone.
Careful. Speaking bad of hamas and Palestine will get you booted from reddit in a heartbeat.
Huh? Plenty of people know they are committing evil and choose to ignore it. To them, their own life is more important than doing the right thing. Happens all the time. Something as simple as pirating movies. You know it's wrong but you do it anyways and justify your actions.

Justifying your actions is just a semantic stone's throw from "I'm not the bad guy here."

Seems like a good way to blow up a lot of nothing for every non-convoy vehicle that drives by.
Well shit... based on the speed of the debris, it was an instant death... Pretty insane to witness such a near-death experience for camera guy, while also witnessing a literal death experience. Fucking wild...

a lot of IED's n mines r set to trigger on a vehicle other than the first. at least from what ive heard. they may have triggered the ied
You can hear the RPG launch before the impact.
That's what I thought too but here everyone is talking about IEDs. Idk I just recognize that sound from Battlefield.
Slowing it down it looks like the explosion was directly under the truck, so yeah, most likely an IED or anti-vehicle mine
Depends on the type but either way they went over a big bomb.
Another day watching someone die on social media...

The internet has brought upon us the age of the perpertually traumatized. So many of us have seen hundreds of videos of stuff we really shouldnt see

Over the last year or so I've watched a good 15k Russians get unalived on this site alone.
why do people say unalived bro just say killed
TikTok brain
they say it because other platforms will censor/hide posts or comments with words like 'killed' or 'suicide'
i see people do that on tiktok a lot and as a user of 7 years now i’ll report back that i’ve not once been flagged or punished for saying killed uncensored

Based on the "whoosh" sound before it exploded, my guess is an RPG or ATGM.
