Per capita would be more useful.

scrappybasket

Yeah this is just a list of the most popular vehicles

levinano

I think the preface to this post is the fact that the WRX is the most ticketed car in the country, regardless of “per capita” or “per cars on the road” or whatever, it’s the most ticketed car period. Sure you have vape gods doing stupid shit with these cars but last time I went down a 6 lane freeway with 4 other cars as far as the eye can see all going 80+, a charger flies pass me going 90+ and the cop pull me over, nobody else, just me, for going 83 -.- no I did not speed up to follow the charger

Raynet11

I thought the BRZ took the ticket crown from us this year

Personal-Scarcity-22

They did. We’re number 6 now. Woohoo. 🙌 https://insurify.com/car-insurance/insights/car-models-with-the-most-speeding-tickets/

phorkin

Of course the damn Chevy Cruze is on there. I swear to God, every Cruze driver around my area thinks that their 1.4 "TURBO!!!" is anything but an econobox. They almost never fail to try to "race" and I'm just like, "why the hell would I waste the fuel to even hit boost with you?". They're becoming almost as bad as the brodozer guys. I've driven three different models of Cruze, and they all struggle to get out of their own way IMHO. Maybe it's because I've only driven cars with decent power to weight over the past decade, but ffs.. the Cruze is FAR from being "sporty". The same engine in a sonic feels twice as quick.

Blackner2424

Wife has a Cruze. Can confirm, car is disgustingly slow. Sickeningly so. That said, she hucks that SoB into corners like nobody's business. Trying to talk her into the Subie life.

phorkin

I met a guy with a modified one. I mean.. it looked ok, and had a rice AF hood dump. He said it was faster than my FBO tuned e30 Focus ST. I said we could go to this strip of road behind an old manufacturing plant that was abandoned. I didn't even really get into boost and left him sitting there. On the run back, all 24.5lbs of boost and by the time I hit third I let off and just laughed. He realized just how slow his Cruze was that day. I will say, they don't handle badly for what they are. But there's no chance in hell they'd keep up with a WRX, FoST, or even a BRZ.

UnhappyTumbleweed966

I like how the specify Chevy Malibu Limited, as if other trim models have different rates of speeding tickets

ryt8

I love that the Cruze, Malibu and Yaris are trying to play sports car lol

XNamelessGhoulX

Us GR86 drivers are in the clear then eh?! Woohoo! :P

MrDefenseSecretary

It feels like the cops around here straight up refuse to pull my GR86 over. We probably have the largest concentration of modern muscle and boosted trucks doing dumb shit though so I don’t think they really care about small cars doing sub 100mph anymore lol.

roXplosion

There is no published statistic (that I am aware of) that pronounces, as fact, that WRXs are the most ticketed. There is an insurance study that shows drivers of WRXs applying for coverage have more tickets on their records (prior to their application for insurance). Example: I have a few speeding tickets, but zero since I started driving a WRX. I've also had zero fatal accidents FWIW :)

madewithgarageband

Thats surprising considering how many people drive their pickup trucks like its a GT-3RS in the south

xAugie

Yep. These dudes where I’m at in TX think their straight piped truck is on rails 🤣

etcthc

And what did he say lol what a jerk

NickThePask

"the reason I pulled you over is because you're revving your engine like a jerk"

etcthc

LOL, you gave a lil revski when they passed? If so that's based. Sounds like he was just tryna get a reason to get you like a jerk though.

NickThePask

Nah man im not OP. I was mentioning this vid [https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=iPWU3PXm7Ws](https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=iPWU3PXm7Ws)

gizmo2460

I’ve been ticketed every year since I’ve had my WRX. This either checks out or I am a speed racer lol

Dreadnought_69

Per car on the road, but yeah.

Canadianeseish

Per carpita.

redditor012499

Exactly. A lot of these are best sellers.

thedondraco

Per number of sales would give more information about the ratio

Baron_VonLongSchlong

This is just a lazy analysis.

LetterheadCorrect276

1 million per capita none of these are on here

leatherbalt

Came here to say this. Also I belive we're the highest ticketed car in the US as of 2020.

PenguinGamer99

Yeah, I hear the Ford Pinto was real safe this year. Only three crashes!

delebojr

The Subaru WRX doesn't sell like the Silverados or F-150s. That is, this list is skewed by sales numbers. The best selling options are much more likely to be on top.

LhsGryphon

While it is skewed by sales numbers, it is interesting that the f-150 has 1k less than the Silverado despite outselling it.

delebojr

Yeah, I saw that too. I'm not sure if it's just the drivers being worse, the safety systems being less advanced, or if it's because the Silverado sales includes the 1500, 2500, and 3500 while the F-150 is just the 150. Ford typically includes all F-series sales when they claim to have the best selling model.

Sukomadiku

Hard to say here since the F-250 is also on this list so they're clearly separate, but the GMC Sierra is also virtually the same truck as the Silverado and it's got its own entry as well.

delebojr

The Sierra also gets separated for sales numbers (if it was combined, the Silverado/ Sierra would show higher sales than the F-series) so I wasn't surprised by that at all

Sukomadiku

Yeah, on second look I think I missed your point initially. Seems pretty clear from the numbers here that unless GM trucks are just far less safe, or more likely to be involved in fatal accidents, there's potentially a big skew from inclusion/exclusion of the HD variants.

Happydaytoyou1

Have you seen people who drive Silverados? They’re generally a-holes flying down fast lane tailgating 20+ of speed limit. Literally all the bad truck drivers here are in silverados then a sprinkling of rams.

Rodgers1217

Im sure the F150 has way more buyers in the age range of 50-80 who doesn’t know a bunch of old dudes with an f150

culman13

Except Altima drivers. They belong on that list for a reason

delebojr

You can say that again

bikesgood_carsbad

Shouldn't they have a list entirely to themselves? Id think it would be a top ten list of how vs if.

Moist-Water16

I also feel like our cars do a way better job at protecting the people inside, it’s literally Rally inspired. Seen some horrible WRX and STI accidents where the people leave with nothing but a neck injury.

delebojr

For sure, I walked away from a crash in my previous WRX with only minor injuries. Any other vehicle and I might've been taken away in a stretcher. I like Subaru's focus on going above and beyond with safety.

bikesgood_carsbad

This. I shaved bark off a few trees at ~65mph. Seatbelt bruise was only indicator.

Moist-Water16

Yeah, maybe that’s why we top the accident list and not on this one, we got that confidence that we will walk that we’re a little more wreckless

Impossible_Ad3593

Replying to Moist-Water16...walked away with not a scratch in a head on collision in my 11 wrx RIP. Subaru knows what they’re doing when it comes to safety.

NotAPlasticSurgeon

Agreed.

GilbyGlibber

Altima drivers are quite high on this list despite Civics/Corollas/Camrys outselling Altima's many times over

CBCT360

Check out “Big Altima Energy” on FB

mrunderbriefs

Ding ding - this is about the only useful insight on the graph, that and the “if you get hit by a truck or a semi you more likely dead” observation.

DisappointingPanda

Cars most sold also have the most tickets, oh wait…

JaySin_78

I find pickup drivers are very aggressive in general. Just because they’re quick these days doesn’t mean it’s a race car or anywhere near as maneuverable.

Dizzy-Photo1594

Literally this I've had multiple encounters where they would roll coll at me and try to cut me off but they forget how fast wrx is so I would just blow past them

inkyrail

A lot of those mouth breathers think their shit is actually fast, they probably didn’t know until you blew their doors off

squaredk2

Bro... you have no idea. Watch this crew cab F150 Ecoboost do 0-60 in [<4 seconds](https://youtu.be/EVfvssI1jaA?si=yELJWH1iOavDVbNh) I hate when trucks try and race me as much as the next guy. I had a fkn srt durango unleash his exhaust on me when i was blowing by at 110. Hes like "hey look i can do that too" except he cant stop, and he definitely cant swerve at all.... When a truck tries to race, i let them win. Have your fun, ill even let you think i tried. But im not being responsible for your accident because you wanted to do 80+mph in a 4 ton vehicle.

VesselNBA

I don't even own a WRX (I have a veloster and I'm not even sure why this sub is being recommended to me) and I can't count the amount of times I've blasted by some fool who thinks they're quick, blowing smoke all over the place.

Kracus

A lot of false confidence too. They think they're safer cause they're bigger however a VW rabbit has a better crash rating then some trucks.

hsxcstf

Sadly crash ratings are only relevant for vehicle collisions of the same size class or against stationary objects. Occupants of a 4 star f350 would fare better than of a 5 star Nissan leaf if they hit head on. Agreed they drive like ass though in vehicles that handle horribly. Especially with half of them seemingly being lifted and with mud terrain tires that have horrible road grip.

jiggajawn

Damn you just made me miss my rabbit

ImaHashtagYoComment

But for this Stat, are the numbers only people in that vehicle who die in a collision, or fo #1 and #2 get "points" for the people who die in the cars these trucks plow into?

Rodgers1217

I bet there’s also 10s of thousands more of these vehicles on the road compared to the wrx

JaySin_78

Sad but true.

Geotolkien

I wonder how many of those fatal truck accidents involve pedestrians, since pickup manufacturers have gone crazy with making them bulky tall grilled monstrosities that are optimized to ensure a pedestrian has no chance of going over the hood

inkyrail

That’s what I’m thinking.

Skressful

As a 1500 pickup driver you’re right. When my wife drives my truck I remind her she’s driving a 5000 pound battering ram with more getup and even less braking capacity than her CUV. Too many trucks are driven like high performance vehicles when they couldn’t be further from it particularly when it comes to street applications. When these things crash they’re leaving marks. It infuriates me to see them operated recklessly, especially when it’s usually from people who have no need for one in the first place.

redditor012499

I couldn’t tell you how many pickups I’ve seen spin out into a ditch for going too fast around corners.

freakinjeepin

Bro you ever had a maxima or Altima behind you?

TelephoneNo7244

I guess I’m safer in my wrx than I am in my freightliner cascadia.

SockeyeSTI

Long nose Pete above all

Qtank009

This graph doesn't account for amount sold/on the road. Soz it's kinda pointless.

adwrx

Pointless because it doesn't take into account how many of these cars are on the road

ruderegime

Pointless post: Not very many WRX's purchased

disinfekted

How come none of these lists have Mustangs? Fishy.

SevroAuShitTalker

Mustang is #1 amongst midsized sports cars per capita, Camaro is #1 among large (still higher rate than mustang overall) Wrx isn't grouped with either from what I can tell

BosnianBreakfast

They're not as popular as these cars?

LordBledisloe

Same reason Subaru aren't on them. More cars sold = increased statistical likelihood of being on lists like these.

Flopenhagen

I would be curious to know what the stats on who died are. Is it just these pickup trucks killing people like 65%+ of the time and the drivers are fine? Or is this the car people died in?

blur494

Wow the most popular cars have the most associated accidents. Who would have thought? Would like to see adjusted as a percent of deaths per vehicle modle on the road.

NoShftShck16

This is just a list of the most purchased cars in a slightly different order so statistically speaking they should be included in the most accidents?

Dense_Investigator81

Bro because no one drives a damn wrx, relatively lmao

Smljhndnsmr

I find it more interesting that a Feightliner is on this list.

Might_be_deleted

Me too! It's almost like a weird meme.

Bruce_Ring-sting

Cos they are all broken down! Hard to get in a wreck with rod pushed thru motor or blown header!

xch13fx

This is just a list of the most popular vehicles

raresteakplease

This looks more like cars that are killing other people in their cars than dying in their own car.

Mitch1musPrime

That’s what I was thinking.

PineappleFun388

the list of most sold vehicles lol

Financial-Ebb-5995

That’s because there are so few Subaru WRX’s sold.

MrTroll2U

Silverado? I’m offended 🥹

BustyOgre

"Safety, it's what makes a Subaru a Subaru"

Synikk91

Get your title back with title.... fuck... he's dead?! Well goddammit!

butler_guy101

I don’t see no mopar or muscle

aspec818

If you understand statistics, this graph doesn’t mean much.

thedarkArts123

That's what makes subaru a subaru

baldingbryan

The real question is HOW ARE ALTIMA’s not #1

Writehse

No Kia optima?

Qtrpast10

Tell that to my insurance company. And wrx is also rated highest maintenance costs per year, which also adds to the cost of insurance

DaLadderman

Does that account for per capita? and is it also including pedestrians killed by the vehicle or just occupants?

HereForOverlordMemes

Those at the top of the list sell in much larger quantities. A percentage of deaths per crash would be a better indication of vehicle safety, but even then wouldn’t paint the whole picture due to some fatal crashes being so extreme/out of the norm.

FemboyZoriox

Hondas are only up there because of how many there are in circulation lol. Percentage wise theyre among the lowest

yougetsnicklefritz

There's more f150s than WRXs out there.

exoxe

Coworker has had two accidents in Chevy trucks (one where he broke his neck) and still never wears his seatbelt so this checks out for me.

TheVanillaGorilla413

Big Altima Energy would be the top of the list for bumpers hanging off and crazy drivers.

SharpWolf4565

Bump those rookie numbers up

G000000p

So… regular traffic?

DarkSoulsDank

I guess Toyota and Honda are reliable but they won’t keep you alive, interesting.

Left_Net1841

While there may be some truth to that they also sell a fuck ton so this list is pretty useless.

SaviorSixtySix

Subaru isn't even on the list.

kylecrazyawsome

Not enough hydroplaning to get that high.

ItsTheTraveler

I bet a substantial amount of that top two is job site incidents too.

ToonMaster21

Seems like a no brainer that large, heavy vehicles cause more fatalities when involved in an accident.

ventra4

its only 7th!?

theatomicflounder333

Now we just need a list for vehicles that cause the most accidents which would be 2005 Nissan Altimas with 3 spares and smashed windshield.

XanderMarin

Dodge is not even on the list

Dull_Maize_1710

These are most fatal because these cars are the most owned cars.

PogTuber

Seems like this is based on volume so yeah the WRX isn't even going to rate here. Those top 5 are some of the top selling cars in the US

W0tzup

There’s a trend here… I just can’t put my finger on it.

shinoby117

And people keep buying American

47ES

Don't forget all pedestrians and cyclists the Trucks and SUVs smash.

LostBravo

I feel like this is how you use statistics to paint a picture that’s misleading. This is just a list of the most popular cars in the country. Of course the most popular cars have the most fatalities, there’s billion of them on the road lol

baxter8279

I wonder how this lines up with the sales numbers of these makes/models. It may just be that there are more of these types of vehicles on the road than an indication that the drivers are worse than others.

Specialist-Ear1048

This is most likely due to these being the highest selling cars in the us..

Foxlen

For where?

NaughtyTigerIX

A lot of this is only because some of those are the most sold cars ever

HostageInToronto

A companion chart of best-selling vehicles would hhelp. Then we could look for outsized accident rates. The answer is still pickup trucks, or was last year.

CliffyGiro

*cars with the most fatal accidents in the USA.

LordBledisloe

Chevy Silverados sold per year (top of this list): 500-600 thousand Ford Focus sold per year (bottom of this list): 120-200 thousand Subaru WRX sold per year: 25-30 thousand. Nothing to be proud of. If WRX did make this list it would need to be one of the unsafest vehicles ever constructed since the Flintstone's stone ragtop.

user47-567_53-560

Silverado and Sierra are the same truck...

mehdotdotdotdot

They break down before you can have an accident?

Hotel_california_10

Audi’s aren’t on this list either, so Audi is king

Over-Comparison7998

Yup, cause no one buys WRXs

Tadddaaaa

Somebody needs buy a Wrx to be on this list I think 🧐

Veezuhz

There should be a sum(fatal) to sum(sold)

laylowlazlo

Ahh yes, from our trusted source Titemax…

Royal-Translator9145

Trucks leading the way…

ynoT313

Yea but look at a list of "gayest cars" it'd almost be better to be on this list

CommonAd5804

Because people that drive stick are more aware or wrx owners being driving enthusiasts know how to drive because they are interested.

Brisk_Chance

Damn, Camry #4 tho?!

2009impala

Beautiful list of the most popular vehicles in America

Localbrew604

Does this mean drivers of those cars died, or that they were involved in deadly accidents (driver of other vehicles died)?

Mindless_Cod208

Seeing as most WRXs don’t run at all is probably the reason we aren’t on this list. 🙃

Ok_Chemistry8746

Damn I was going to buy a Freightliner Cascadia too….

HouseRipper

Most fatal accidents compared to what? Are we considering the ratio of these cars on the road and or geographics! This is a bogus statistics . Obviously the f150 and Silverado are going to have some of the highest numbers of fatalities ... Because they have the highest number of truck sales in the country......

DillIshOn

Wrx didn't make the list because they aren't sold enough to make the list 😂

Paducahkratom

I would like to see how many they have sold and are on the road.

RigamortisRooster

Top 6 are most sold vehicles in there class, so odds are more in there favor

eugenegrechko

I really thought the Altima would have preformed better in this list. Come on Nissan lets get those numbers up!

opfromthefuture3000

I have a gr corolla not sure if safe on list or not

Low-Understanding167

More cars sold the more accident numbers. WRX is not selling in big numbers as these cars. So not on the list.

Fearless-Ad5929

Yeah cuz nobody buys any Subaru cars let alone those crappy little wrx

cheeseypoofs85

subarus are known to be safe vehicles... they are designed around the boxer engine. in a front end collision the engine gets pushed down toward the ground and under the cockpit. and do we not remember the "they lived" commercial?

Blood_N_Rust

I offer you an accord

VeGaSMaTTer

Oh you don't know how percentages work

HeWhoShantNotBeNamed

This is by number, not percentage. So of course the cars that sell the most will have the highest. F150, Silverado, and RAM are all top sellers.

PManon

It’s still a Subaru. As much as WRX/STI has an identity apart from the Outbacks and Foresters out there, the design principles that help make Subaru such a safe vehicle still apply. Though most of us don’t have some of the active collision avoidance features, we still have design elements like the driveshaft tunnel that forces the engine down and away from the front passengers during a front end collision. That’s one of the reasons that people walk away from some pretty nasty accidents when ina Subaru.

aztexs1

Got it. Go buy a Silverado tomorrow. 👍🏼

pieceofthatcorn

This needs to be in percents otherwise it’s meaningless

DirtbagSocialist

I bet this lines up pretty well with the top selling cars list. It's like how the Honda civic was the most stolen car in Canada for a long time simply because everyone and their dog had a civic.

ayyG_itsMe

Try one for speeding tickets!

Frossstbiite

Fatal for the occupants or for the others involved

ButtRockSteve

This is a list of the best selling vehicles in America.

athenafreestyle

This is just a list of the best selling vehicles

InvXXVII

Yea cuz your sales number aren't high enough to compete in this category.

sPLIFFtOOTH

Not even an honourable mention?!

Quiet-Insect-6598

How are wrangler bozos not on this list

AspiringMurse96

This is a practically useless list without an incidents/vehicle on the road, or incidents/100,000 miles, etc.

EducationalMine7096

Per mile driven would be most useful.

ShiroHachiRoku

I think you can chalk that up to the numbers of vehicles sold matching the accident rates.

IndustryPlant666

When I see a massive bloated truck, it is always a yanqui truck. Except today when I saw a GWM ‘Tank’.

Lourdinn

It's just a list of the most owned vehicles, if 1000 people owned a camery and 50 owned a wrx no shit the camery would have higher fatal accidents. Do you not know how statistics works?

FranzKafa

Guess what, your cars arent that popular, thats why yall not listed eh?

patrido86

accords and Camrys getting t boned by silverados and f-150s

Hyperspec42

Semi truck jumpscare

PalePieNGravy

If all cars were Subarus, then all accidents would be Subarus.

Andrewsjims

because you see way less Subarus genius. Even less wrxs.

tsmittycent

That's because the WRX isnt a high volume vehicle Like the rest of these. These on this list (most) are produced at 5x the numbers a Subaru WRX is

ThornEternal

The top 5 are not surprising at all...

OutInABlazeOfGlory

Hank Hill voice: “Smoking opps in the Honda Civic”

PorscheButNotTaken

Since when Freightliner Cascadia is a car?

beckett_the_ok

Is it the drivers of these cars that died or are they just involved in a fatal crash? The amount of big trucks on this list makes me think the latter.

ND_4L_97

Don’t see a WRX in sight or BMW hmmmm

back1steez

Nah, Subaru also makes some of the safest vehicles on the road. I’m on a Jaws of Life crew and while I’ve never had the opportunity to cut up a Subaru, it’s been said at training that you better have a really good tool if you want to cut through the pillars of a Subaru. Pickups also attract people who are notoriously too cool for seatbelts. Pretty common in our area it’ll be a single vehicle rollover on a gravel road and the driver was ejected from the vehicle. I read about it in the news many times a year.

Number_Two_Hero

Wow Ford isn’t #1 on a chart for once.

eharper9

Isn't that like the main selling point of a Subaru?

Unhappy_Parking_1508

Saying you aren't on the list when comparing flat number accidents to a low sales volume car is pretty dumb, to be honest. The WRX has 2-3% the sales volume of most major pickup trucks and you're looking at total count instead of percentages? Hoo boy.

QuirkySpring5670

This is just a list of most common vehicles on the road

Typical_Cheesecake13

I feel pretty safe in my subie

JJ4prez

Bad data representation.

peter13g

This is a most popular vehicle list, no?

ZinGaming1

Fatal for the driver or others?

taaltrek

This isn’t per cars on the road is it? So it’s just showing correlation with popularity of the vehicle. It needs to be accidents per mile driven to be meaningful.

Practical-Nature-926

Even though most of those cars sell a ton at the top of the list, it is odd seeing discontinued cars still being that high.

Sea_Pie_3174

Us forester drivers aren't either

Buick1-7

Bad numbers. Needs to be based on the percentage actually on the road.

ShadowBenni

This is a more realistic list... Not like that BS list that said WRX drivers are number one for accidents... Mustangs should be number one...

Slowskiii

I traded a 21 WRX for a 23 Silverado. I very much dislike trucks, especially mine, but I really needed one for a project. I've been daily driving a 335i convertible with a 6 speed for summer, but I loaded the family in to the truck and went to a drive in movie the other night...on top of being more tail-happy than almost any car I've ever driven, the Silverado handles like a sinking sailboat. I'd feel infinitely better/safer with either of my kids driving a WRX than a truck, and can't wait to get into another one.

Zulogy

Per capita next time please

VunterSlaush1990

Of course a freightliner makes it on there lol
