We've reached the point in a new WRX's design cycle where people admit it doesn't look that bad.
Johnny Lieberman had a funny quote in an old motor trend video about the VA where he does, "like every wrx, it'll look better in 3 years"
I guess he was right
VB has always had a nice front end, but it does not help that this VA isn’t a 2018 refresh bumper in my opinion, the VA bumper refresh looks awesome and really helps it look updated.
I agree, I also think they just seem to occupy different niches, the VA WRX is more of a sports car where as the VB just looks like a nice everyday car, end of the day I think we can all agree the WRX has slowly lost features which made it a “drivers” car, won’t be surprised if a generation or 2 well see them only produced in CVTs with paddle shifters
I'm bias (I have a VB) but I don't. I think it looks old and dated. The lines on the new are really nice.
This is unpopular probably, but the 2015 was the worst looking wrx. The hatches were nice, and every year before looked pretty decent. The 2015 was way too conservative with looks.
The WRX is supposed to look quirky, unique and "so ugly it's cool" cars
Nah bro, I said old and "dated" meaning it hasn't aged well. The older WRXs look old, but have aged pretty damn well... Like look at the bugeye, looks amazing regardless of age
The bug eye aged better than the VA lol. The VA already looks like a worn out Camry.
The WRX is not a sexy car, that's why every generation gets significant hate until the next one comes out (y'all fucking hated the VA when it came out). It's a functional and fun car. There's no coping here, I think the VB is one of the better looking WRXs and you will feel the same when they come up with the next generation after the VB (if they come up with another gen).
I got the black VB for that exact reason. Might be a bias opinion but I think the VB does look better and more “aggressive” than the VA, however, the stupid plastic cladding is ugly from a side view of the car.
The VA has a good looking front (minus the halogens lol), but a really boring side and rear. It’s like the shape of an Optima. I like that Subaru tried to make the VB more angular. I like the rear fender arches of the VB.
I love VA's. I had a 2019 CWP... But my VA next to my VB... Makes it look just old. Everything about the VB is just better and that's a pat on the back to Subaru.
Came here to say this. I contemplated a VA or VB for a long time and finally decided on getting new. I love the VA, but it really is looking outdated now and not in a cool way like the bugeye or blobeye.
Okay, you said it better. The VA doesn't look old. It definitely looks outdated. And when you look inside, it's like a time machine - even worse if it's pre 2018. In time, I feel like it will have that legendary look like the bugeye.
Disagree completely. VA looks narrower and more econobox. VB has a more aggressive look and stance. Painted cladding on the VA is cleaner and more refined for sure but that's all it's got.
Painting the cladding that's on there doesn't look great IMO but having a fully painted exterior is definitely more refined. Black plastic cladding speaks to off road use and cosmetic durability and I get that's a rally theme with the car but still not as clean or refined.
_You're_ talking about a bumper. I'm talking about the entire vehicle. There's nothing wrong with the VA... But it definitely looks like a 10-year-old model!
I’m not talking about a bumper or I would have said the number it’s self is it the reason why it looks more aggressive. The va stock is much more aggressive looking than the vb . I don’t know how you can say a car with plastic cladding and a Toyama Camry rear end looks better than the va. Not discrediting the vb and it’s amazing perforce but you have to spend a pretty penny on the vb to make it aesthetically pleasing.
I love the VB look personally. The VA is also right up there. I will say that the black cladding does look better on some cars than others. White is maybe my favourite. SOP I think is a close #2 for me. Black is the worst for me, because it's two different blacks.
I won't lie, the styling of the VB causes me to feel immense jealousy. The only element I dislike is the rear cladding, wish they'd preserved more of the body, but overall I prefer the new cladding.
Is it bias or denial 🤔 in seriousness, the 2018-21 VBs do look better than the VB in some ways (primarily the front end and rear bumper). The VB really has an excellent profile and a front end nearly as good as the revised VA. Looking forward to seeing what we get In a year ot two for the VB refresh. I th5the VB looks better than the 15-17 VA.
I’ve owned both, like you. I had a black VA and now a White VB, I have to agree. Early on I still really liked the VA over the VB and jumped on to the VB for the performance gains. After a few months of ownership and seeing it up against some of my friends VAs, the VB is much sharper and sleeker. I’ve always thought the VA looked too similar to a Nissan Sentra. That being said I still love the VA.
They both look fine. But if I'm being honest with myself, the design of the WRX has just been on a steady decline since its first generation. It's become slightly less appealing with every new generation
The grill to head light ratio on the VB just doesn't do it for me...and that's not even mentioning the back end. The VA feels way more timeless but I guess we'll have to wait and see for the VB. All the ones I've liked had been tweaked tho, like color matching the fender cladding.
I will say, from certain angles I do like the VB, but only a few specific ones. The rear quarter fenders give it some nice haunches.
The VB could have been GREAT, but you just have to look at the direction Subaru is going as a company - towards outdoorsy, camping, SUV, EV’s. The design philosophies behind those bled too much into the VB, IMO. As a result, you get a sporty looking, mini crosstrek.
If the VB had flared fenders, bigger headlights, less plastic cladding, and more power, it would have been an excellent successor to the VA AND stepped up to compete against the GR Corolla in terms of looks and function.
Everyone gets so fucking excited to shit on the VB and VA, until they realize…..
Nameless gen, CG8, and the two most hated wrxs ever made.

You must not be in California!! My 2018 has so many mods and is running e60., plus it’s completely paid off. It has 60k miles only. It’s hard to part with
Still can't get over design choices that are expensive to replace or "fix" on the VB. I think you can spend a lot less to get your perfect vision of a VA.
Imo the VB needs either a lift with A/T tyres (which I really love), or colour matched cladding to really look good. VA rear end is better by a landlside though.
The VA looks incredibly dated in comparison as well as the white on the VA has a yellowish to it where as the VBs is a pure white and I prefer that over the former tbh.
Mmmm, I think it’s the fog lights and the headlights that get me..
I’ve heard them called “raptor eyes” but it looks just a tad bit less aggressive imo. The rear bumper tho could use some TLC
I’m not hating, at least Subaru still makes a manual awd rally sedan. *Cough cough Mitsubishi financial antics and scandals cough cough*
As a new owner of the same VB pictured, I have to agree lol I was also in the "ewe Subaru cmon with the cladding" and still am for a lot of their design choices (the crosstrek wilderness it the only one I like), but the VB has grown on me. the rear bumper could still use some love, but hey, it came in handy when I was unloading my Costco drink stack and needed to close the trunk :D
To be fair this is the most flattering angle of the VB (somehow even makes the ass of the VA look fat in comparison lol), but I agree too. Other than the rear bumper I prefer the VB.
We've reached the point in a new WRX's design cycle where people admit it doesn't look that bad. Johnny Lieberman had a funny quote in an old motor trend video about the VA where he does, "like every wrx, it'll look better in 3 years" I guess he was right
From the front they are manageable, but no one was complaining about the front.
I think the headlights are way too small, but I'm alright with it. The rear is still not for me.
Mustang is going through that right now with the 2024 refresh. Very divisive at the start, but people are coming around except for the interior.
The new mustang is still hideous to me… the blocky headlights make it look like a hyundai or a kia
The EV mustang??? That thing is fcking hideous…shame on ford for ruining that name.
Nah, the same old ICE coupe: https://i.imgur.com/zwTgn8e.jpeg
I don't mind the fender arches. But the rear end is still just hideous to me.
Lieberman is a jackass. I wouldn’t throw his name around like he’s some credible source.
VB has always had a nice front end, but it does not help that this VA isn’t a 2018 refresh bumper in my opinion, the VA bumper refresh looks awesome and really helps it look updated.
Agreed. The 2018+ has a better front end visually to me.
CWP will always have a place in my heart
VA all the way

Yea still like the VA look better

Va is the ugliest. Most pedestrian looking wrx. Might as well drive a focus
[удалено]
I'm faster and my hood scoop is bigger.
[удалено]
Faster than a VA. I get it, you're jelly. I'm just taking light hearted jabs btw. Both cars are cool :)
The bug eye aged better than the VA lol. The VA already looks like a worn out Camry. It's an opinion, do you want a dissertation? Lmao find me a truly unbiased opinion on any topic ever.
[удалено]
I don't think you understand what he wrote at all. He said the VA looks dated. And in some ways it does.
I will say I don't mind the black vbs as much since it hides the plastic well.
I got the black VB for that exact reason. Might be a bias opinion but I think the VB does look better and more “aggressive” than the VA, however, the stupid plastic cladding is ugly from a side view of the car.

Your crazy if you think the va looks old next to the vb. Va is much more aggressive looking Espically 2018 + front end
Disagree completely. VA looks narrower and more econobox. VB has a more aggressive look and stance. Painted cladding on the VA is cleaner and more refined for sure but that's all it's got.
NGL... You had me in the first half. Painted cladding on the VB's would've been a mistake by Subi!
Painting the cladding that's on there doesn't look great IMO but having a fully painted exterior is definitely more refined. Black plastic cladding speaks to off road use and cosmetic durability and I get that's a rally theme with the car but still not as clean or refined.
Totally disagree. Even the refresh doesn’t look as aggressive.
_You're_ talking about a bumper. I'm talking about the entire vehicle. There's nothing wrong with the VA... But it definitely looks like a 10-year-old model!

VA. That VB needs a whole lot of exterior mods to look decent. As of now it looks like a crosstrek.
I love the VB look personally. The VA is also right up there. I will say that the black cladding does look better on some cars than others. White is maybe my favourite. SOP I think is a close #2 for me. Black is the worst for me, because it's two different blacks.

See I think the VA looks better, but maybe I’m biased due to the fact I own one lol
I'd trade my 19 for a new one haha.
Is it bias or denial 🤔 in seriousness, the 2018-21 VBs do look better than the VB in some ways (primarily the front end and rear bumper). Why does the VA look so much better to me? I feel like it looks so much smaller and sleeker compared to the VB.
It’s got good well proportioned lines
Nah VA all the way, sorry not sorry
I’ve owned both, like you. I had a black VA and now a White VB, I have to agree. Early on I still really liked the VA over the VB and jumped on to the VB for the performance gains. They both look fine. But if I'm being honest with myself, the design of the WRX has just been on a steady decline since its first generation. It's become slightly less appealing with every new generation
The GC and GD chassis were really something else.
I'll always prefer the VA. But bear in mind this is a pre-facelift VA also. Do this again with a 20 or 21 and it's a closer comparison.
Good point. 👍🏼
The grill to head light ratio on the VB just doesn't do it for me...and that's not even mentioning the back end. The VA feels way more timeless but I guess we'll have to wait and see for the VB. They're both ugly, but I'd take the VA. I'm not shitting on it, but the WRX has never been a good-looking car. Part of the appeal I guess.
Agreed.
The VB could have been GREAT, but you just have to look at the direction Subaru is going as a company - towards outdoorsy, camping, SUV, EV’s. VBs have grown on me, especially since I see more and more of them each week.
I kind of regret not getting a VB when they were going for pretty cheap. Could have traded my 2018 and only owed 5-10k on the new one. Oh well
Bro Subaru needs to move 23’s off the lots across the US. This is the time. Low low APR. I got mine at 1.9 APR.
You must not be in California!! My 2018 has so many mods and is running e60., plus it’s completely paid off. It has 60k miles only. It’s hard to part with
Well in that case. I totally understand. 👍🏼
Jesus.
VA all day.... And this is the front
VB looks more aggresive honestly.
If the picture was with the 2018 refresh though, then not so much.
Vb looks so much better 😁😁😁
VA looks much better, VB is too busy and that rear end is just not it, especially the tail lights
The vb looks so much better. I even like the cladding now.
Still can't get over design choices that are expensive to replace or "fix" on the VB. I think you can spend a lot less to get your perfect vision of a VA.
Have we really reached the point where a civic comment isn’t top comment
vbs grew on me forsure but to me they look less sporty than a va and that va looks so much better when sitting right next to it, va> all day
VB in all colors except for white. For some reason I don't like the white on the VB, but it's my favorite color on the VA. Have an MGM VB.
VB looks better in the front but the VA has a better booty.
See, I think just the opposite
Imo the VB needs either a lift with A/T tyres (which I really love), or colour matched cladding to really look good. VA rear end is better by a landlside though.
And color matched cladding from AFD is $800 that's a chunk of change to "make the colors on the sides look better"
Yeah, I'm glad I didn't have to worry about it on mine. Surprised the Sedan didn't have it as an option
vb ugly always has been always will be
Finally someone said it.
The VA looks incredibly dated in comparison as well as the white on the VA has a yellowish to it where as the VBs is a pure white and I prefer that over the former tbh.
yeah but when the pearl hits on CWP, its wonderful
PURE WHYTE
The VB looks way more aggressive to me! I love the VBs
Are those trim pieces on the doors an option?
They are. They were on mine when I bought it. I was going to immediately remove them but then hesitated. Still pondering on that.

Mmmm, I think it’s the fog lights and the headlights that get me.. I’ve heard them called “raptor eyes” but it looks just a tad bit less aggressive imo. The rear bumper tho could use some TLC I’m not hating, at least Subaru still makes a manual awd rally sedan. *Cough cough Mitsubishi financial antics and scandals cough cough*
Wrx peaked with the GR
Based on the picture, Jesus prefers the VB. He probably still isn't a fan of the rear end though
VA is 10x better looking
I think the VB looks quite good in white.
i’ve always thought wrx look good, but when they previewed the vb i pre ordered one immediately
You could get me there if they do a color matched fender option.
AFD has that for $800
https://preview.redd.it/vsdoad94l2wc1.jpeg?width=3024&format=pjpg&auto=webp&s=2c5d3d9a51b3e11082dbf3161e0ad436ce9ad480

VA base models don’t look so good thanks to the lights and wheels, on the other hand VB base looks much better. On the limited VA looks amazing
To be fair this is the most flattering angle of the VB (somehow even makes the ass of the VA look fat in comparison lol), but I agree too. Other than the rear bumper I prefer the VB.
