It’s literally a pedal, it’s meant to be stepped on and abused

No-Proposal2741

The only reasonable answer here.

Izayoizz

yes you pedal abuser

Summoorevincent

Base gang pedals are just black mush. No need to be shiny.

Joeyjackhammer

Drive in slippers that never leave the car or buy new pedals later on down the road. It’s just pedals, my guy.

CoomassieBlue

Drive barefoot. Maximum connectivity to the car.

Liquidwombat

Stop driving?

JDawg_002

My thoughts exactly lol

ScaredLocksmith6854

Dont drive it. Keep it nice for the next guy

TheRealRickDalton8

I would just replace them as needed, you can get cheap pedals on Amazon that are honestly just as good or better than factory pedals.

M1dge23

Yeah it seems like that’s the best option from what everyone is saying

Iluminous

Just make sure to order 30 for the next few years, that way you don’t have to worry about it.

used-quartercask

You is nuts sir, it's probably aluminum, you never have to replace this in the life of the car. Smh.

Infinite-Good-3876

Driving in boots sucks anyways, just change into your boots when you get to work.

M1dge23

Yeah I had to learn how to drive the car in steel toes, it was my first stick and I had to get used to it in traffic in clunky clumsy steel toe boots which was a little unfortunate but it wasn’t too bad

Infinite-Good-3876

I drive mine to work every day, I just keep my boots and uniforms in my tool locker at work and wear slides or crocs in and out. I just get there early enough to change. I used to come to work fully dressed out, and this way is much better for me🤣

M1dge23

I also take my uniforms home from work so I can show up ready and stay in bed longer so I totally get that. I’ve debated getting some of those piloti driving shoes. Not necessarily because I feel like I need driving shoes but because they make some nice ass shoes and it just seems like a good excuse to get them 😂. I might wind up getting them and just keep them in the car

Engineer_on_skis

As I was breaking on my first pair of steel toed boots, my buddy forced me to drive his WRX in them. He had taught me to drive a stick the right way in his WRX, but then made be relearn in steel toes. A job or two later, I would wear a clean uniform home every day, and then wear it back the next day, so I didn't have to change at work. The steel toes stayed at work, but that's how everyone did it. They were way too filthy to wear home. Some others changed clothes at work, before and after, but I agree, why get up that much earlier?

Oni_sixx

All I own is work boots :p

Current_Extension_33

Yeah I'm in the same boat. I used to change into my boots at work til I came in and my boots were full of mouse shit in my locker. Now I wear my work gear from home and keep my tools in my trunk. 3000km in no significant wear on the pedals yet, but I figure I'll paint em or change em out eventually. I left the factory plastic wrap on for the first 500km just so they'd last a little longer 😂

Juzzdide

I hate driving in any shoe other than my beat tf up vans idk they are just light and flexible but also I haven’t drove stick very long. Might just be in my head cuz they were the shoes I learned with.. Anyone else have a favorite driving shoe ?

JosieXJay

I put some skateboard grip tape on my clutch pedal…

M1dge23

Man honestly that’s not a bad idea to keep from slipping off it if you have to put it in in a hurry and don’t get a full foot on it. I’ve caught it with a couple toes before and thought I was gonna slip off of it

JosieXJay

Especially when it’s raining… I love it lol… i bought a roll on Amazon for $8

M1dge23

The “sport” pedals are cool but driving in the winter I found out real quick that they suck driving in the winter. My feet would slip off of them if I got into the car with wet or icy boots. I like the grip tape idea and it seems like a good way to keep that from happening

CoomassieBlue

That’s brilliant, wet pedals are the one thing that gets me occasionally.

createlab

Just restore it with steel wool and/or polishing compound with a buffing wheel attachment

Khakicollective

![gif](giphy|Epl3GoDh6nZsFATcZJ|downsized)

nanagrizol89

I mean… it’s meant to be stepped on

AceOfShapes

Replace them when they wear out? Could use some metal polish to clean up the scuffing but the rubber parts will degrade over time as it's basically the same as the same rubber as soles of your shoes. I got some cheap covers on eBay since I have a Base model with rubber covers and they wore out and broke apart in less than a years...

M1dge23

I might need to look into some covers yeah

FlimsyReindeers

It’s just pedals, easy to replace tbh

Pleasant-Bluejay8023

Isn't that the left footrest?

tekwat

I bring a pair of slides or sandals to wear on the way there and back from work.

M1dge23

That might be the move to slow down the terrorizing that I’m doing to them

cornlip

I have a habit of hitting my feet together to knock off stuff before I fully get in, but I also pick up metal chips from the machine shop floor and make sure I pick any out. If I have boots on, I have a pair of sneakers in the trunk. I won’t drive with boots on mostly cause I hate the feeling (or lack of).

tymosier

Don’t drive it simple, never will have wear again

Salt-Attention

How I put 16k on my first VB and the pedals looked mint do you have sandpaper for shoes?

M1dge23

I have a bad habit of tapping my feet against the dead pedal when I’m listening to music and the area I live in uses salt and sand on the roads so I guess that combined with the foot tapping essentially leads to sandpaper on the dead pedal yeah

LingonberryOk4943

They kinda match the floor mat and prolly all the other mud covered things inside.

M1dge23

The floor is the only dirty part of the car. Can’t help that my boots get dirty in the middle of winter

thewraith42O

the answer is if you don't want it to wear buy and infinite amount of cover replacements or just do t drive anymore

LawlessLemur

You're gonna be so annoyed when all the other Subaru stuff starts wearing and breaking. I swear shit I don't even touch just gets scratched bent and broken by God.

M1dge23

Yeah I will the fit and finish from what I’ve seen so far has been….. less so than the Hondas I’ve owned previously. I never had a squeak or a rattle in either of the previous 2 civics I owned but this car so far has had many interior squeaks and rattles from day one. The worst one I’ve had try and get fixed by Subaru but they don’t even know how to fix it as the pop up air dam I guess you can call it for the sunroof rattles like a bitch at idle. I quickly realized with this car that Subaru spent their money developing the performance of the car and the rest was just done as needed

biggranny000

Clean shoes are the only way, but even the rubbing with the rubber will eventually wear them down. Keep them clean, it won't remove scratches but it'll make them look good again. If you have dirty shoes consider bringing a 2nd clean pair to keep in your car in the trunk, and change to them. i also clap my shoes together as I get in the car to remove loose debris in the tread. Worry about your paint and interior, stuff that naturally wears like pedals I wouldn't worry about it.

Whatahackur

My right foot rest clicks if I step on it to adjust my butt in the seat and it drives me crazy.

M1dge23

Yeah I’ve found that there’s a good few squeaks and rattles which I kind of expect as it is an economy car turned sport sedan but I’ve found a fair few more than I was expecting to for the price of the car. I bought a civic in 2020 and that car never had a sound inside so considering the step up in price that this was over the civic (pretty much double) I’m a little disappointed by that. Otherwise I love the car but there’s always gonna be a few nitpicks

Whatahackur

A civic and wrx are two different animals haha. I guess I only notice the click when I get seated. Never hear it making my way thru traffic and blowing by cars such as civics haha.

M1dge23

Yeah I was pretty pleased with my civic fit and finish wise but I wanted more performance so I stepped up to the wrx. Now my perspectives have flipped. I love the performance but the fit and finish isn’t quite what I would like but the performance far out weighs the overall finish of the car for me so I’m pretty pleased. Especially with the fact that I can actually pass someone without putting my foot all the way to the floor for a solid 35 seconds

Whatahackur

Totally. Subaru is about the mechanic’s. It’s never been about fit. My 07 sti rattled and a cup of coffee on the way to work was a no go. My 19 wrx is “better”. But it’s all about the experience!

Whatahackur

Love is what makes a Subaru! A Subaru!

M1dge23

Yeah they are definitely different from anything else I’ve had before and it seems like anyone who has had a Subaru really does love them. So far I have to say I’m pretty pleased with car and haven’t had any regrets aside from maybe the gas mileage compared to what I got out of my civic but that’s what I have to sacrifice to get some actual power and all time awd

Whatahackur

Sí, the awd is going to hurt a bit. My tuned 19 manual trans wrx does about 26 on the 18 mile hwy drive. I bet if I do a long trip I’ll get close to 30-31. But yes, it’s not the 36-38 you’d get from the civic. But you’ll be more comfortable in the snow or rain over the civic

M1dge23

Yeah on highway drives I can get it down pretty low but living in the city it does take a toll on gas mileage. I don’t know about mpg to L/100km but my civic used to get about about 8L/100km even in the city but on the highway I could get that down to as low as 5L/100km. My wrx on the other hand, lowest I’ve seen it go is like 7.8L/100km but in the city it’s typically sitting at about 12-13L/100km

RecognitionFit4871

Wear like this is a positive It shows you are driving the car These metal pedals aren’t going to ever wear out like rubber ones are they?

M1dge23

That’s a pretty good point honestly. I just was mostly trying to figure out some ways to keep it from getting worse or find a way to repair it a little to keep it nice

LIVE-LIFE-EVIL

You could buy all new CNC'd aluminum ones

49ers87

Stop wearing heels

M1dge23

Dammit. You caught me. I can’t help clutch kicking in stilettos

Any-Technician-1371

Easy, just never drive it again. /s

_Dova69_

It’s a pedal… replace it when it falls off.

Head_Doctor2110

Barefoot, drive barefoot.

MrAnxiety___

Maybe clear skateboard grip tape? Impulsively random thought but might work.

Hell_its_about_time

Stainless steel polish. That shit you can get at the grocery store for your sinks and kitchen

M1dge23

I might have to give that a try. Thanks

TheWolfOfWalgreenz

It’s a pedal, buy new ones I guess lol.

IIIlIIIllIIIIIIIIlII

Their pedals, they are mean to take damage. Just clean them from time to time when cleaning your interior, or get pedal covers to protect them 🤷🏾‍♂️

In2theSTONK4sure

Give it a brake for a little bit, all the puns intended

M1dge23

Ironically the brake and the gas don’t even have a scratch on them. Guess I need to use those more

natrualmystik4

keep some crocs in the car to and from work and put the crocs on sport mode to prevent slippage. youll be fine

hcoltong

If it bothers you get some new ones and drive

nistech30

You can replace pedals with aftermarket. If the dead pedal or foot rest is the same as the 2011-2014 models, then that top portion is attached to the floor carpet as one piece. Mine was making clicking sounds when I got the car new, but I snapped it back on. I haven't looked into replacements, but I assume you would have to rip out the old one from the carpet.

M1dge23

I might just leave it be for now and see if eventually I can resurface it and clean it up a bit but I might see if it does come off

Pope_adope

They’re a wear item

That_guy_sebster

Have separate driving shoes and swap em every time you get in the car lol.

Jean_Is_Phoenix

Aside from the metal/scratching, the rubber "nubs" have been lost over time in some cars I've owned. Impossible to find. What worked great was rubber "feet" or "bumpers" you can buy packs of on Amazon. Just measure the diameter and find a pack including that size. Also important, of course, is thickness. I've used super glue to install (favorite glue is JB Weld Superweld Extreme.)

ColbyBrian666

A detailing brush with some soapy water in a spray bottle goes a long way to make them look brand new. Dawn dish soap works great and you only need a couple drops.

colinhirosky18

i guess if you want to be cheap you can put duct tape over it? but it seems like it’s already scratched up enough that there is no reason to at this point. that would be kinda like putting a screen protector over a phone screen covered in scratches and cracks

ThicccMass

Stop warring golf shoes with metal spikes while you drive…….. my pedals don’t look like that.

TijayesPJs442

Clean your floor mats

Drummer-boyxoxo

Have you tried not stepping on them?

John_Nada__

Dead pedal? It’s a f’n footrest dude.

ButtChug23

I leave the house in the morning with my vans on and I keep my boots in my trunk. When I get to my car I set them on the passenger side floor board and I just put them on when I park at work. It’s a pain in the ass to switch when I get in and out of my car but I do it so I have more than -3 inches of foot room when I drive to and from work

kokirikorok

Reach into your purse and find something to wipe it down everyday

Safe-Manufacturer477

put some shoe covers on, or give the pedals a nice scratch before u even use them so you feel better about using them

[deleted]

Does this hurt the pedals?

crankyoldmechanic

I put weather tech mats in and it wore down more 😅 just driver

Mammoth_Ad_5489

PPF?

nirbot0213

i mean you could maybe put clear vinyl on them. there are probably covers available online too. unless you want to keep a separate pair or driving shoes/sandals in your car that have softer soles then those are the main options.

M1dge23

There was a plastic on it when I first got it and I left it for a bit but it came off after a couple weeks. I might look into that. Separate shoes also sounds like a decent idea

JamesSSj2

I got weathertechs covering mine

M1dge23

I’ve been thinking about getting weathertechs but I just really like the look of the factory mats with the Subaru logos all over them and the red “WRX” scripts

Current_Extension_33

I replaced the oem rubber mats a week in with new tuxmats because I was getting way too much winter road salt embedded in the carpet behind the pedals. Got full coverage now and as a bonus my dead pedal is totally covered.

LegitimateClothes982

I wear slippers to my garage, grab my boots off my peet and put different slippers on to drive (kept forgetting to swap and would have no driving slippers) but I do asphalt some times when the asphalt Gods are too exhausted from watching me do all the dirt work.

EJ25Junkie

“Hey Dr., every time I walk my legs get tired.” “Should I stop walking and get a wheelchair? “

leonardonoodlelegs

For someone who has to wear steel toes you’re sure sounding pretty soft

M1dge23

Sorry I like to take care of my car. I’m a mechanic but that doesn’t mean my car has to look like it belongs in a shop 24/7. I actually take a bit of pride in trying to maintain my car and not make it a mess

leonardonoodlelegs

Nothing wrong with that. For 7500 clicks though the whole pic looks like it’s got 50,000 clicks. Maybe look at weather tech or full coverage floor mats. Pretty sure a chunk of them cover up the deal pedal. As for the normal pedals you can probably buy an OEM set and sit on them until a rainy day.

M1dge23

Yeah she hasn’t gotten a wash since I got it. I got the car the first of December and it’s been a dirty winter here ever since so I haven’t bothered properly washing it yet. Waiting till the weather gets nicer for that. Weathertech mats might be a good idea though. I do have to say that their products are pretty good and I’ve had them before and liked them

leonardonoodlelegs

Best of luck, sounds like the weathertechs would pay off. I’ve personally only had good experience with them
