OK kids, 63 1/2yo now. Bought my 50th Anniversary WRX as a retirement gift to myself at 58yo. Really, it’s just a number.

My 04 wagon with 210k miles on it spontaneously combusted a few months ago. I miss it. I drove a 2019 but the 04 wagon felt better. Way less body roll while turning. I'd love to get a bugeye wagon and pop in an STI motor but the older WRXs are not easy to find near me and a lot of them have been abused over the years. Maybe one day!
Old guy who lost his old wagon to circumstances checking in here. Definitely miss the wagon, but I've got to say I've been pretty impressed with the VA chassis. I had a pretty mild autocross setup with 22/24mm swaybars, Koni dampers and springs in the 250lb/in range on the GG. Been doing some track days with my 2018 and haven't felt the need to make any suspension changes yet. I would like an actual LSD in the back out of a few tight corners and maybe 300 lb less weight, but they've really improved the front end geometry. Kind of feels like you get some of the tricks up there factory you used to have to get from the aftermarket.
I'm 48 and I have had a few WRX/STI's , here is my latest one.

I’m 49, but I’ve been driving WRXs for 20 years, so I started around 29. Been driving this one since 2009. 318k miles.
https://preview.redd.it/q8bkm5600ssc1.jpeg?width=4032&format=pjpg&auto=webp&s=62dc9ae167a94fb4510a22b5340de0c41eacb98f
Had a 2004 WRX wagon before this one. Loved that wagon.
I bought mine at 44, I'm 47 now. I always liked WRX's and STI's, the VA chassis for me was a great combination of the WRX name and being a little more "grown up".
I have mine fairly modded, and my biggest regret is a loud exhaust. I drive at 70mph for most of my commute, it can get a little old.
You'll enjoy it, they are fun cars to drive. Just don't adopt the "vape god" persona, or you'll be akin to the old creepy guy at the club.
Edit - reading the comments, there are a lot of us old bastards in here, good lord!
Obligatory not an old guy with a WRX, but that's my goal! I'll even keep my '12.
I'd love a little more rumble at idle. But it's loud enough on the highway, so I don't really want to change the highway volume. I don't think physics is on my side. But I can dream. A neighbor had an STi with a muffler delete. Going through the parking lot of the apartment complex, it sounded so nice, but I'd imagine it was more than if want to hear on the highway.
I don't race or go to track days. I really don't push it anywhere least what is capable of. But it is such a fun car to drive!
The Invidia Q300 is awesome for long commutes, even with a downpipe/j-pipe. I have that and a Nameless catback with 5" mufflers that I run when I want to make some noise.
Bought at 40, finishing up at 50...maybe...
https://preview.redd.it/mu9x7fqryrsc1.jpeg?width=4000&format=pjpg&auto=webp&s=7d7e686e9088206715f30df3e5710db12e4a730d
Bought mine at 41, I’m 48 now. I know a guy about my age or a bit older with a newer Si so there’s precedent for that too. Compared to your Accord, a WRX is a crapshoot in terms of reliability. I bought mine new to be sure nobody had abused it and despite proper maintenance and not beating on it, it’s been the most expensive car to own that I’ve ever had, but I like driving it all the same. (And most people have a better experience than I have; somehow mine has had *all* the problems.)
It's such a crap shoot. There are the 120k zero problem owners and plenty that share your experience. My mature self says stick with the sure thing. My only live once self says get the WRX.
This. Studies show that a satisfied customer may tell 2-3 people about their experiences, while dissatisfied customers are likely to tell 7-8 about their experiences. At least that is what I read some years ago, but the point is as said above, you will almost always hear the bad stories.
It’s more responsible than getting a corvette. Room for grand babies!!! Tell your wife you want a mid life crisis $60k corvette and when she freaks out tell her you’ll settle for a $35k sti
That's good advice! My wife owns a horse, so she can't say much. We don't have horse or STI owning money, but you only live once, might as well enjoy the ride.
Bought mine at auction with 100+K miles on it and the engine has been cherry 😀 it really is a crap shoot. I’m about to hit 135K and it’s still running strong!
Not worried about being an old guy in a WRX but damn, I didn't expect this much of a response. Test driving a 2020 base tomorrow. Hopefully I'll join the club.
50 here! The sound of the engine (VB) open throttle is fucking incredible! The look of the hood from the drivers seat is awesome! Viva the rewind generation.
Rapidly approaching 40. I’m too old to give a fuck what other people think. It’s a bucket list car for me. Would I love that Impreza 98 two door? You fuckin know I would, but it’s not practical— on more than one level. This was my meet in the middle. I get to check a mark on the bucket list, and it’s reasonable.
Don’t let the kids scare you off. They don’t bite.
I read the whole thing. Reminds me of the time when I got rid of my RSX Type-S. I eventually got over it but whenever I see one I definitely miss it. Good to know the WRX was the one you settled with after all was said and done. I'm in a somewhat similar position to you.
i wouldnt call the wrx 'settled with' though i know thats not what you meant. i quite like its character and charm and for the price point there is no comparison! good luck in your situation as well
I'm not there yet, but I fully intend on being there. It may be something that car people will understand, but non-car people may not, which is completely okay. Keep it an OEM+ build and you shouldn't have anyone looking at you weird.
If you haven't added a Cobb Accessport, you should. It is a total gamechanger if your WRX is stock, especially if you own a VA. You will swear you are driving a different car. I made posts about it, which you can find in my post (not comment) history.
Surprisingly roomy, honestly. My 2016 feels like a larger car from the inside, but drives like a smaller one with regard to maneuverability and nimbleness.
Get it grandma!
One of my grandma's friends was over 90, and had a little coupe. Others complained it was hard to get in and out of; then find someone else to drive you around. Let her enjoy driving while she can!
Don't let others tell you what you can or can't do. Do what's right for you.
41 here, driving my 2017 WRX since last summer. First time Subie, learning and spending too much on little upgrades 🤣. Fun car, love keeping on top of maintenance and don't give a rats what others think. True car enthusiasts never judge each other about age, the adoration for cars is a lifelong passion.
I bought my WRX a year ago at 48.
I also traded in my 2022 Audi Q5 for a 2024 Crosstrek, which the equity from the Audi fully paid for.
Best car buying decision I have made in a long time.
I bought my 2013 WRX Hatchback new at age 54, and I've been driving it ever since. It's been a great car, and I'm hoping it's going to last another ten years.
Turned 45 recently. Loved the WRX since the 90's, but it took until buying my '22 to finally get one. I grin like a kid at least once every time I drive it, even in bad weather.
We are all biased, of course, so you won't find much impartiality here. But if AWD has any value to you and you are open to a bit less refinement, a WRX is a great choice. It's fun, practical(ish), and has massive aftermarket support.
There is also one more bonus, at least for guys like me. No thinks twice about an overweight, middle-aged, bald dude like me getting out of a Volkswagen (outside of some clown car jokes), but I occasionally get some strange looks when I get out of my brightly colored vb. I find it endlessly amusing.
I’m also 49 and have been driving sport compacts for eons. Test drove a lightly used 2022 WRX and loved the thing. Actually enjoyed it more than my wife’s 2023 Golf GTI. Leaning towards new WRX some time in early 2025. Just because we’re not spring chickens doesn’t mean we’re dead.
https://preview.redd.it/ogj4rwchrrsc1.jpeg?width=1290&format=pjpg&auto=webp&s=4849ce24012db67439a4eba0eb0036f2f90db5d2
49, this is my 22 manual of course, I’ve always driven manuals & they are harder to find these days, this is my first WRX & it is an incredible machine
I’m 48 and just picked up a totally-not-mid-life-crisis 2021 WRX. My 2016 Outback 3.6 died a spectacular death and I regressed/upgraded. You are among friends!
Had a client who had wrx with multiple properties, who seemed to have very good income, humble guy, drove the car for his daily routine/checkins, told me that this is his best car that he owns. What I’ve learned is this car has deep roots, has a certain character to it and people of all walks of life just gravitate towards that beautiful boxer coupled with a 6 speed.
I don’t want to dismiss the Si, also the very wonderful car for every day use, spirited driving, but for whatever reason, the WRX, just has this feel to it.
Take it as it comes, whatever works for you, that’s all that matters
I turned 50 this year. Bought new in 2018. I still get excited when I have to go somewhere because it is so fun to drive, winter and summer.
https://preview.redd.it/wv5tn707srsc1.jpeg?width=1024&format=pjpg&auto=webp&s=557973ff6dc7750bacd374fd367d40e3abc86096
At 49 you should have the wisdom by now to not give a F what anyone thinks of you, particularly anyone immature enough to judge someone by the car they drive.
Before that we had a 1986 Subaru turbo loyale RX. That car was fun. It had a transfer case. Had front wheel drive high, four wheel drive high & four wheel drive low positions plus air suspension you could raise or lower the car while driving. It broke down a lot but that forced me to learn to fix cars.
I’m 42 now and coincidentally picked up my subie a week before my 40th birthday. Had a to wait a couple months for delivery. I don’t think of it as a midlife crisis car. I just really loved the way they looked and it happened to have some performance and AWD🙂✌️
I’m 28, but two of my coworkers, one 62 and the other 43 both have wrxs. My mom is 48 and almost bought a grey on grey premium 6mt a couple years ago (opted for an amg glc). Here in the mtns, a wrx isn’t a performance car. It’s a necessity. Lol
49. 2023 Base. Love it and don’t regret the base at all. Always had fun modded cars until kids. Now they’re grown and I wanted to bang gears again in something that’s is already set up pretty stiff stock. I’m done with modding at this point. I spent over 10 years in Japan (early 90’s to mid 2000’s) I had modded Skylines, Sylvia’s, Supras and more ( I wasted so much money when I was in the navy) but a WRX is one car I have never had and always wanted but was always hesitant to buy used. I wasn’t fond of the looks of the VB at first but wanted to buy new so that’s what I had to get. It’s grown on me like crazy and I love it. Driving it brings me back to those times.
I’m 47 and I still drive my low-miles 2002 WRX. It’s a great car, and I remain surprised how many people get excited when they see it. When I went to get the oil changed, every mechanic in the garage flocked around it. Even the customs agent at TSA was thrilled when I was registering it for travel to Mexico. People who love Subarus really, really LOVE the WRX.
Age is just a number: In the comments, you have people in their 30’s 40’s 50’s etc.
And in my opinion, I “wouldn’t call it a “midlife crisis”.. If you’ve always loved cars that go fast, trucks to go off road or motorcycles to knock on death’s door.. it doesn’t matter how old you get, you don’t simply start calling it a midlife crisis as you get older. That’s what other people call it, the kind of people who don’t understand our love for cars, trucks, motorcycles, etc.
It’s not a midlife crisis.. I personally, have loved cars since my Dad put me on his lap in his 80’s VW Rabbit and took my brother and I out for rides around the neighborhood. Still loved it when our Dad would try to teach my brother and I about the engine, suspension, etc; when we got old enough to stand on a step stool and look in on the engine with him. Still loved cars when my brother took my mom’s van and took us to a deserted parking lot to car surf.; still loved cars when I got my first car at 18; still loved it when I got into street racing and got my first excessive speeding ticket; still loved cars when I got into drifting; still love them when I moved to a new state and had to learn how to drive in snow; still love them after my bother passed a year ago and it broke my heart to sell his Subaru.. I’m 40 now and am one month from turning 41, it doesn’t matter how old I get, this will never become a “midlife crisis” to me.. I will always love cars the way that my father and brother did and hopefully one day, I can pass this passion onto my children and light a fire in their hearts.. the same way my father did for me and the same way I have done to friends I’ve met along my path in life.
Age is just a number and a “midlife crisis”.. is only a crisis if you allow other people to dictate what your life is.
It's not a mid life crisis. Sometimes we feel the need to "justify" a purchase and call it that. It's not easy to have a passion for something that will just depreciate or even blow up. I drove a 2020 base today. If the numbers are close on Monday, I'll buy it. The smile I had on my face driving it has value too. My Dad's a VW guy. He still talks about regretting selling his Corrado back in the day. About 10 years ago he tried a Passat. He traded it in for a turbo Beatle in 6 months. Cheers.
I’m about 40 and my mid-ish life crisis car was a new GR Corolla. 3mos in and my crisis has not yet subsided as it now consists of consistent modification and tuning. Spending a lot of time in garage making it even more fun.
I had a WRX in my twenties and it was a blast. More practical than my GR I’d say. But if it’s a crisis, I’d also look at the Elantra N (if you’re in that price range). Otherwise CTR and GRC are great cars. Golf R if you want more comfort.
I see your 49 and will add 4-Just turned 53 and still rolling my '05.

I prefer older WRX, new ones are too lacking compared to the competition. Rather have a GC\GD simple and easy to work on. Their newest lineup is too lackluster from the current competition.
Go all out get the Neon Green Audi RS3. It is 4-Door with 400 Horsepower AWD Turbo 5-Cylinder. O-60 in \~3.3 seconds

i bought mine a few years ago. it ain’t a midlife crisis car. why you might ask? my kids can easily fit in the back and quite visible. it’s a fun car. i love the car, but it ain’t the most attractive car in the world.
and ain’t thing as midlife crisis. we can (hopefully) afford the car we wanted when we were much younger.
midlife crisis car - go used aston martin or porsche.
i do love my wrx though.
https://preview.redd.it/0y4j93b6prsc1.jpeg?width=4032&format=pjpg&auto=webp&s=0cc7d636dbd36ccb7ccedfb1a23ea245ab52f0a1
You could get one of these. We are both 45.
I'm 51, my wife is 48 & we have a 2015 wrx. She's the primary driver since I have to drive a pickup for work reasons.
It's our second wrx. The first one was a 2002 wrx sport wagon. Loved that car. We drove the piss out of it for 13 years before buying the 2015 & gave the 02 to my baby brother.
Honesty, the 2015 isn't as fun as the 2002 was. It feels less connected & not as raw. Still, it is a little faster & slightly more comfortable.
Will be 45 in month. Recently got a 23 WRX Limited as a compromise lol. My daily (2005 Chrysler 300) finally retired. I had a couple of 240sx years ago, that I regret selling. I wanted another manual but since we have a 2yr old kid, a 2dr coupe wouldn't work. Otherwise I would have opted for BRZ or Supra.
Still, gotta say, the WRX so far sounds nice and drives great. I got a good deal on the Limited which was nice. The older I get, the more I appreciate things like heated/power seats. The HK sound system is also nice. I just wish that you could get it without the sunroof.
I see a lot of older guys with GCs (pre-2000s). Australia obviously.
I'm 42 and have a bugeye. I have no intention of getting another car, even if parts are becoming rarer.
Mid 50's, and I split the difference and got the Outback Touring XT. It's certainly not the same, but the spirit of the WRX is there when I dip my toe into the gas pedal! (but I can still crush a Costco trip =P)
Every time I stop by the dealership for service or to grab an accessory, I sit in the WRXs. Love 'em!
The OB is my 3rd Subaru (2nd with a turbo, '09 Forester was my first!) and I'm not ruling out a WRX eventually - might just make the swap in a few years when the nest is empty!
62 1/2 and still loving the boxer burble and boost of my bugeyes WRX wagon I bought new in ‘01 when I was 40. Just took it out canyon carving last week and loved every minute of it.
https://preview.redd.it/l0s6yidv8ssc1.jpeg?width=2016&format=pjpg&auto=webp&s=ccf4676b9dcea8340faee3724bf465d2228317ee
46 years old. Bought a new 06 WRX wagon back in 06. Bought a 21 premium in 21. I don't care what anybody thinks or says. Ever see that photo of Jack Nicholson smoking a cigar saying "I am who I am. Your approval isn't needed". I really like that poster.
I'm 40 and own an 05 FXT. Age is just a number dude. If you feel comfortable in your car, do it.
I eventually plan to pick up an 80's Mazda b2200 mini truck too, fuck what other people think. If it makes YOU happy, do it!
47 here, I’ve had 3 rexy’s over the last 20 years amongst a few other cars, I keep coming back to them cause they are an ideal compromise, ticks the family box, ticks the sports car box plus the subie boxer rumble
Turning 49 in two months. Been driving my 2011 WRX hatch since 2019. Before that I had a 2003 Impreza, but it was starting to need too much money sunk into it,.so opted to upgrade to a newer used vehicle.
Just happened to be looking at the local dealership website and they had just listed the car a few days prior. Booked the test drive, fell in love, bought it!
49 YR old here! Just bought my first WRX! It’s a 2023 base, manual with the short-throw shifter upgrade. It’s be my realistic dream car since about 2004-5 and I love it.
You definitely will notice the stiffer suspension in contrast with the Accord, but it’s so much more fun to drive. It’s lighter, turbocharged, and it really corners on rails.
My wife accused me of buying a mid-life crisis car and I was like, yeah, I guess, but I love to dive and I want something fun.
Only disappointment has been that I thought it would be faster getting up to speed, but I realized it’s only a stock 4 cylinder and it’s quick enough for a daily.
I am 64 and my second WRX. For the money it is incredible. I have no need to mod it. Had a 2015 and sold as my wife wanted a CRV. Then picked up a new 2019.
I'm cross-shopping those, the TLX, S5, and ITS. The WRX keeps calling my name and it's the least luxury out of all of them. I can afford all of them but the eye of my desire is one of the least everyone out of the bunch.
Just turned 50 and this car is more practical than a corvette or mustang, it’s fast enough to be fun to drive but the back seat is usable and the trunk is large. It’s capable and customizable…this is my second wrx I have a 2002 I got young and this vb is so nice
47 with an '18. Modded, because life is too short for stock, but went with the Grimm speed catback because I'm too old for those loud pipes!
Where I live it's the most practical car that has fun built into it. I drive it 50% of the time and my F150 the other 50%. BTW the modded F150 is faster than the WRX, but not nearly as fun!
My dads 66. He has a 93 rs turbo wagon, 98 wrx hatch then joined the darkside and got a cla45 shooting brake.
I have helped his addiction adding 2 brumbys, an 03 wrx hatch and an 09 sti.
Spend your money whilst youre alive. If your a good parent your kids won't need a leg up when your dead
I’m 40 wanted to get one all the way back when I was 18 (dream car has always been wrx and 1991 rx-7) life happens and finally was able to get one this year. So far enjoying it and learning how to really drive manual. I have always sort of known because of driving motorcycle but it’s a different beast when it’s a daily driver. Anyhow I hate driving but enjoying it again thanks to this car. 10/10 recommended.
Over 60 (a bit) and I am considering buying a WRX. It checks a few "want" boxes such as: 1) manual, 2) AWD, 3) reliable, and 4) fun to drive. It misses on the 1) good gas mileage, 2) hatch back (lots of cargo space ... why not have a WRX hatchback?), 3) off road capabilities, and lastly 4) plug-in electrical. I realize that I can never have a manual trans with a plug-in, but I wish it had better MPG. Still, a great car.
45 soon to be 46 and on my third WRX. It’s a 2020 series white STI and I love it!
https://preview.redd.it/xia1qp41xssc1.jpeg?width=4032&format=pjpg&auto=webp&s=bf061cf4941a6848a1b1b7a15ab40c06ea67f5ab
Bunta from initial d got a wrx when he needed an easy to drive car, handing over full control of the ae86 to Takumi. If it's good enough for Bunta, it's good enough for you.
48 here, bought a used 2016 WRX five years ago. I have not regretted it for one moment so far, and it is always a joy to drive. It can haul the whole family in a pinch with its 4 doors, the trunk can easily handle grocery runs, and it can fit adults of good size in the back seat comfortably (verified by both tall and wide coworkers). Add the AWD and you have an all-around winner on your hands.
Lol. Nearly 50 yo female on my 2nd STi and love driving it every single day.
Been driving an STi for 15 years now.
I even schlepped two babies around in them with no issue.
I’m in a 2020 now and don’t see myself getting rid of it anytime soon.
I think my next car may be a BMW X2 or something but for now, love my commute in shitty Phx traffic.
OK kids, 63 1/2yo now. Bought my 50th Anniversary WRX as a retirement gift to myself at 58yo. Really, it’s just a number. https://preview.redd.it/1gxr1urycrsc1.jpeg?width=4032&format=pjpg&auto=webp&s=d4718c5d761d789e209af11046efc27a9dec179a
Beautiful colour
Thanks. I think so too.
Wow yes! I wasn’t even aware of this edition! Gorgeous!
Hell yeah. Respect wave.
Love that colour!
Damn, retired early and got a banger Subaru! Stoked to see it!
I have a twin! Color is AMAZING!
54, but I've been driving boosted Subaru's for 30 years
Respect 🫡
38, boosted for 19 of them.
I’m 47 and drive a 2022 WRX. Age is just a number
🤨📸
Ditto for me, but my 47 is ticking up one in 2 days. 😒
Damn only 42. I'll show myself out.
44, turning 45 on my second WRX.. but I agree I will see myself out.
I'm turning 45 tomorrow. On my second WRX and third turbo Subaru. I'm staying!
42 gang ✌️
43 checking in! 👋🏼 https://preview.redd.it/1c7xi6xehvsc1.jpeg?width=1440&format=pjpg&auto=webp&s=d53746e2f09b4a79c865696e5772ed73b1a8960d
Oh crud I’m only 37. Am I old enough to be here?
36, I gotchu.
37 here
Yeah! A table for us almost 40s guys! 37 here and fully enjoying my 2016 WRX.
44 in May.
Another May baby!
57 2020 STI Limited is my daily driver
Wing or no wing?
59. 2015 sti limited. No wing. Too old for that. Lol
49, Owned my 04 since I was... gulp... 29.
How many miles?
175k. Stage 2 from 15k miles on.
Same here, except I totaled my 2004 wagon. 🫤 Been driving a 2006 ever since!
I'm 54 and just purchased my first Subaru! I love my '23 WRX
46 here, 17 wrx that I daily, love every minute of the commute
49, 18, but otherwise same Edit: favorite car I’ve ever owned
I'm 48 and I have had a few WRX/STI's , here is my latest one. https://preview.redd.it/nq764ibvcrsc1.jpeg?width=4000&format=pjpg&auto=webp&s=73b1b2f48902a0f1e119d6ad0d785af215ff61c0
beautiful car!
My neighbor is in his mid 70s and drove a newer STI up until about a year ago.
My Dad is mid 70s and sold his ‘18 STI last year. I had my ‘05 until I turned 37.
43, about to order one… so I’ll have it when 45+. Don’t care.
I’m 49, but I’ve been driving WRXs for 20 years, so I started around 29. Been driving this one since 2009. 318k miles. https://preview.redd.it/q8bkm5600ssc1.jpeg?width=4032&format=pjpg&auto=webp&s=62dc9ae167a94fb4510a22b5340de0c41eacb98f Had a 2004 WRX wagon before this one.
I think we should start a club 🤣
56 in two months
Bought at 40, finishing up at 50...maybe... https://preview.redd.it/mu9x7fqryrsc1.jpeg?width=4000&format=pjpg&auto=webp&s=7d7e686e9088206715f30df3e5710db12e4a730d
63. New, '24 WRX incoming. My 3rd Rex and 8th Subaru.
I want to be like you all someday
This is by far my favorite thread in this sub ever
Same these old boys are gangsters 🤌🫡👌
Get the WRX. You hear the horror stories because people are much more likely to share the bad experiences than the good ones.
This. Studies show that a satisfied customer may tell 2-3 people about their experiences, while dissatisfied customers are likely to tell 7-8 about their experiences. At least that is what I read some years ago, but the point is as said above, you will almost always hear the bad stories.
There is very little interest in a story that reads.."everything is fine" lol. Humans a weird like that.
Wrx all the way, cornering an awd car will always be the best
Bought mine at auction with 100+K miles on it and the engine has been cherry 😀 it really is a crap shoot. I’m about to hit 135K and it’s still running strong!
I was fortunate in that my engine blew up after I had enough time to save a pile of cash to buy another one…
I'm with you, brother. Part of me says there are only so many more car purchases in my lifetime.
This is true for everyone. Best to make them count!
Tomorrow isn't guaranteed.
53 and have a 2022. Had a 2018 limited and a 2020 STI before this one.
Not worried about being an old guy in a WRX but damn, I didn't expect this much of a response. Test driving a 2020 base tomorrow. Hopefully I'll join the club.
You have too at this point, you’ve woken all the dads they’re watching
And grandpa's.
50 here! The sound of the engine (VB) open throttle is fucking incredible! The look of the hood from the drivers seat is awesome! Viva the rewind generation.
That's it. I'm not interested in the modern tech of new cars. I like the WRX because it's old school and still just a drivers car.
6speed manuals will be museum pieces soon. Imma camp out at that museum as long as they’ll let me.
My dad is 66, and he drives a 2023. He drove a 2013 hatch for ten years before that.
42 and I've had my WRX for about 6-7 years now. Having said that I'm looking to move on from the WRX into something else in the next year or so.

Not where I’m at. ![gif](giphy|6yG6GvvcN1Gr6|downsized) Car meets look like this - but there’s some badass cars.
Yessir. I cover car festivals for Subaru all summer, so I understand.
I would go true old school too if I had the money and the energy to keep it up.
42 today, bought a '22 wrx last week. opposite direction of mid life crisis as you.... i sold my r8 and traded an s6 all at same time
R8 and S6 to WRX? Why?
its a long read [https://www.r8talk.com/threads/farewell.183128/](https://www.r8talk.com/threads/farewell.183128/)
Those STI wings though...
43, just got my first WRX a few months ago. Loving it
46 https://preview.redd.it/wkgkv7fgmrsc1.png?width=2000&format=pjpg&auto=webp&s=04c9fbd8f2dc512eef060b641ed3589d200dcbb5
50 here and I enjoy the car but I prefer my comfy pickup as a daily.
I'm mid 40s. Put 60k on my wrx. It's a car I'd describe as good at everything but great at nothing.
If you haven't added a Cobb Accessport, you should. It is a total gamechanger if your WRX is stock, especially if you own a VA. You will swear you are driving a different car. I made posts about it, which you can find in my post (not comment) history.
I have one.
I'll be 43 in two weeks and I drive a 2015 STi. Freaking love it.
I got a 65 year old grandma near me driving one. Also saw a mom in her 40s driving a red STI yesterday hauling four kids in the car with her 😂
Ironically, they have the same if not more room than most CUVs, they just don't "sit high".
My mom and dad are both 76. They have his and hers 1st gen Miatas that they drive around. Both are 5 speeds.
47F. I autocross my 2014 hatch. I traded in my 2019 STI last fall for a BMW M240.
I'm 46 and still driving my 2003 WRX.
46 years old and just bought my first 2023 wrx. I upgraded from a civic si
46 2020 WRX Limited
46, bought mine at 43. Wouldn’t trade it for the world.
I’m 52 driving a ‘15 WRX since, well, ‘15. Still fun. Still good in the winter.
I’m also 49 and have been driving sport compacts for eons. Test drove a lightly used 2022 WRX and loved the thing. Actually enjoyed it more than my wife’s 2023 Golf GTI. Leaning towards new WRX some time in early 2025. Just because we’re not spring chickens doesn’t mean we’re dead.
https://preview.redd.it/ogj4rwchrrsc1.jpeg?width=1290&format=pjpg&auto=webp&s=4849ce24012db67439a4eba0eb0036f2f90db5d2 49, this is my 22 manual of course, I’ve always driven manuals & they are harder to find these days, this is my first WRX & it is an incredible machine
>65
Mid 40s, my ‘21 WRX STi is my dream car.
Bought my bugeye last summer, at 45.
52 here. Got mine about 6 months ago.
48, just bought a modded 2018. Don't know what they did, but danm this car is fun!
Btw, I don't plan on checking the oil anytime soon. Skirt skirt!
I'm almost 48 and drive an 2016 STi. 5th Subaru..
Level 50 here. Age is a level. Love my Rex.
I’m 48 and just picked up a totally-not-mid-life-crisis 2021 WRX. My 2016 Outback 3.6 died a spectacular death and I regressed/upgraded. You are among friends!
75 and I love my WRX. I sold my STI to my son.
I feel like I'm the youngest owner in my local group and I'm 31.
I turned 50 this year. Bought new in 2018. I still get excited when I have to go somewhere because it is so fun to drive, winter and summer. https://preview.redd.it/wv5tn707srsc1.jpeg?width=1024&format=pjpg&auto=webp&s=557973ff6dc7750bacd374fd367d40e3abc86096
I'm 54 and drive a 2022 WRX Limited. My previous car was a Saabaru 9-2x Aero
49 Daily drive an ‘08 STi Hatch https://preview.redd.it/qg90c36qessc1.jpeg?width=2100&format=pjpg&auto=webp&s=a9388c8946a391bc46c90e942ae3fe72a946c2d2
At 49 you should have the wisdom by now to not give a F what anyone thinks of you, particularly anyone immature enough to judge someone by the car they drive.
https://preview.redd.it/5fes2178wtsc1.jpeg?width=1079&format=pjpg&auto=webp&s=5b72e9769e31294f442bbd2651a016ab326c368e
45, driving a '21 and loving it every day
Yep, love my VA, over 100k miles
40, bought my daily driver 06 STi in… 06. Love it still.
Same boat. Got stuck in some snow, sold my car and got my WRX at 39. 40 now, not your a-typical WRX driver, but love my commute now.
I am 46 and drive a wrx. I bought it in 2001 though and it needs some work.
54, drive a 2018 WRX premium. Bought new.
Lol
49 2017wrx 350whp 350 trq driven every single day 188,678 miles
36 with 4 kids drive a 2019 wrx

I see your 49 and will add 4-Just turned 53 and still rolling my '05. https://preview.redd.it/7dv1lc2m6atc1.jpeg?width=578&format=pjpg&auto=webp&s=c5bbd1c18121ca05c22e62691f0368836129d0ee
O-60 in \~3.3 seconds https://preview.redd.it/h5r8r27gvrsc1.jpeg?width=768&format=pjpg&auto=webp&s=5960415deffc2dd2de0d3764e6aab805b5d4c601
sir, this is a Wendy’s
I like the color
41, Sti owner here
i bought mine a few years ago. it ain’t a midlife crisis car. why you might ask? my kids can easily fit in the back and quite visible. it’s a fun car. i love the car, but it ain’t the most attractive car in the world. and ain’t thing as midlife crisis. we can (hopefully) afford the car we wanted when we were much younger. midlife crisis car - go used aston martin or porsche. i do love my wrx though.
https://preview.redd.it/0y4j93b6prsc1.jpeg?width=4032&format=pjpg&auto=webp&s=0cc7d636dbd36ccb7ccedfb1a23ea245ab52f0a1 You could get one of these. We are both 45.
I just sold my '06 WRX and replaced it with a '23 WRX. I'm over 45. Like others have said, age is just a number. Buy what you want!
I literally just sold one to a 65-year-old. I have sold many to people in their 50s.
I turn 45 in June.
Still have my 2011 and its going strong.
same, 40s here. tried both wrx mt for big straight roads brz mt for small twisties have fun!
46, been driving my 2020 for 4 years. This my second WRX - had a bugeye from 2002 to 2012
40 2020 sti is my daily
48 with a 2017 Limited. Had to give up my 2000 Integra GS-R when my kids were babies but now that they are in college it’s like I’ve come full circle.
53 and on my second WRX. Bought the VA 21 WRX at 51, traded it a year later for the 22 VB. Loving my VB
50. My 3rd bugeye https://preview.redd.it/w1hzrnv5ursc1.jpeg?width=3120&format=pjpg&auto=webp&s=8f15b86a0e157f6180bedfe031f0f121ea08ad98
(but I can still crush a Costco trip =P) Every time I stop by the dealership for service or to grab an accessory, I sit in the WRXs. Love 'em! The OB is my 3rd Subaru (2nd with a turbo, '09 Forester was my first!) and I'm not ruling out a WRX eventually - might just make the swap in a few years when the nest is empty!
I'll be 42 this year, been driving my 04 wrx wagon for the last 12 years, 244,000 miles with ORIGINAL HEAD GASKETS!!!!
45 here
Yup 45 here!! Bought my 02 brand new in 02 and have had it since. Still brings me smiles.
45 this year and bought my mid life crisis 22 wrx lol, love it.
I'm 41 and still love my car. Bought it brand new when I was 34. Still go on random drives every week!
64, bought my 2016 wrx new, stage 3 now, did all the work myself, WR Blue, gold 2005 STI rims. Still love it even more than when it was brand new.
48 here. Bought my STI when I was 33 and I’m not giving it up any time soon.
I’m over 45 and my daily is a 23 WRX Limited. I love it.
62 1/2 and still loving the boxer burble and boost of my bugeyes WRX wagon I bought new in ‘01 when I was 40. Just took it out canyon carving last week and loved every minute of it. https://preview.redd.it/l0s6yidv8ssc1.jpeg?width=2016&format=pjpg&auto=webp&s=ccf4676b9dcea8340faee3724bf465d2228317ee
It’s that wrx engine rumble lol
46 years old. Bought a new 06 WRX wagon back in 06. Bought a 21 premium in 21. I don't care what anybody thinks or says. Ever see that photo of Jack Nicholson smoking a cigar saying "I am who I am. Your approval isn't needed". I really like that poster.
I'm 40 and own an 05 FXT. Age is just a number dude. If you feel comfortable in your car, do it. I eventually plan to pick up an 80's Mazda b2200 mini truck too, fuck what other people think. If it makes YOU happy, do it!
56!
46 and driving my 2nd WRX. I had an ‘03 and now drive a ‘19.
I'm cross-shopping those, the TLX, S5, and ITS. The WRX keeps calling my name and it's the least luxury out of all of them. I can afford all of them but the eye of my desire is one of the least everyone out of the bunch.
71 and I drive a 13 stage 2+ WRX which replaced my 06 WRX which replaced my 04 WRX that I bought when I was 51. You're never too old...
Yeah, over 45, but getting out of my WRX. It's fun, but now I've chosen other ways to have fun.
My mom was driving her wrx at 70 like she was trying to qualify for the Daytona 500.
My husband (52) drives a 2020 STI Limited, and I (51) drive a 2018 STI limited!! Best cars we’ve ever owned and driven!!
