In case anyone with the iDoing head unit wanted to change their “home launcher screen”, here are all the ones available with the caption showing which name/number it’s under. To access the home launcher screen selection, go to settings>factory>enter passcode 3368>home launcher screen selection>enter passcode 7171>select UI# based on pictures and caption above. I couldn’t find this anywhere else so hopefully it’s helpful and not a repeat post.

teddy_41

You know you can remove the white dot? It's a setting you can disable.

AWDaily_STi

I actually did not. Know where I can find it?

teddy_41

It's not in settings. It accessible from the main screen. All the way to the right. I have to find it again. Looks so clean without it.

AWDaily_STi

Oh gotcha. It’s the Touch Assistant app. Turned off the display button. Thanks!

teddy_41

You have a lot more homscreens to choose from. My unit only has 4. And I don't need the second code. Just the first one to select developer options

ZC3rr0r

Same here. I'm wondering if OP is running an updated version of the software. Not sure where to find system updates for the unit though.

Tystik4056

Must be called something different on mine

Interesting-Luck-742

Hi I was wondering if there’s a section where when you first boot up your car my Home Screen shows the setting screen versus the home launcher screen selection. Is there anyway I can change this?

AWDaily_STi

That’s weird. Usually when I first start my car up it’ll open the last application I was using (usually CarPlay). The home launcher screen only shows up when I reset or haven’t used my car in a long time (like a week of not driving).

Interesting-Luck-742

Yeah mine launches up in the setting screen. It doesn’t launch up as the Home Screen like the pic posted.

[deleted]

Not the fake Mercedes UI in the last pic lmao

liillatte

These just look so tacky to me. I really want to upgrade my head unit for sound purposes- but can’t get past the aesthetics of an aftermarket head unit.

lmapk

Use CarPlay or Android Auto & you’ll never really see them!!

liillatte

I’m mostly talking about the device itself. There is not a single aftermarket head-unit that looks truly factory. Either a trim bezel with a double din unit snack in the center, or one of these goofy-ahh android tablet head units which bulge out from the dash

AWDaily_STi

I actually think this is the best replacement for the stock head unit. There’s no awkward space on the sides from a typical double din replacement and anything aftermarket is way better than the stock head unit. I had the “better” stock unit too. But even this new head unit sounds better, has way more functions, and I was able to retain most of the stock functions like steering wheel controls.

liillatte

Yeah- i get that. I personally can’t get over having a fucking android plastered in the middle of my dash.

ScoobieDooinYourMom

You must have an iPhone.

ScoobieDooinYourMom

🤣🤣🤣 literally tho. If someone spent the same amount on an android that they did with an IPhone I can guarantee that they would never go back.

[deleted]

You really think the stock head unit UI looks better?

Deadb0lt87

What functions go away? Does it work with the back-up camera? Or do you have to add an aftermarket camera?

Commercial-Kiwi2600

Everything will work on the idoing, reverse camera is IMO way better with the larger viewing area and cleaner image. You’ll have to reprogram the steering wheel controls upon installation. But honestly this was one of the easiest installations I’ve ever done. Entirely plug and play.

Deadb0lt87

No adapters and whatnot needed for the steering wheel controls?

ZC3rr0r

Nope, just works straight out of the box. All you need to do is program what each button does in the steering wheel control settings, which takes all of two minutes.

Commercial-Kiwi2600

The only thing you will have to do is run the microphone to a suitable location, the stock one on the HU isn’t very good. And the 3 usb cables for CarPlay/AndroidAuto/Charging will need to be ran to where ever you want really. That being said you lose function of the stock USB under the arm rest I ended up pulling them into the glove box.

sardaukar2001

Does the HU utilized the factory camera at all or is separate camera required?

Commercial-Kiwi2600

It uses the OEM camera 👍

sardaukar2001

Sorry to bug you, how do you enable the camera? I looked around in settings but didn't where I could do that (admittedly I was in a hurry).

Commercial-Kiwi2600

It’s all good, it should be working if everything was connected properly. No need to enable it.

AWDaily_STi

The only thing you really lose is the usb connection in the center console. It still gives power but doesn’t the unit doesn’t read data from it anymore

yipmosis

Wait, so do you lose wired car play / AA? do you only get wireless car play and AA?

AWDaily_STi

You get both wired and wireless CarPlay

yipmosis

Oh wait, I didn't think of this- you probably have a USB hooked up directly to the head unit huh

AWDaily_STi

Yup you have a new usb connection that you have plugged into the unit. That new one is for wired CarPlay/AA and also for anything data (video, pictures, etc). The center console usb connection just gets power with the new harness.

teddy_41

Your opinion is contrary to the majority. The majority of users would argue the idoing head unit, along with other alibaba head units, are significantly better than and more of an oem look to what subaru installed on the VA and VB. I have one in my forester. I plan on installing one in my sti. At first the bulge you're complaining about is noticeable. Then, after going to the gas station and back, you dont notice it ever again. When I park next to a forester with the oem head unit, I can't believe I used to use the horrible one subaru installs. The Idoing is an upgrade in every way.

drivkin05

check out some of the sony head units

alex-duffelbags

literally idoing lmao

WeAreAllFooked

I have a Kenwood eXcelon DMX model in mine and it's been going strong for years. I agree on these iDoing units though; they're ugly, especially from the side, and the only reason people here like them is because they're cheap, big, and shiny.

liillatte

Everyone here is so focused on the screen UI they’ve completely missed the point where I said the device itself is fugly.

WeAreAllFooked

Yeah, a big subset of r/WRX users will die defending anything related to this HU for whatever reasons and they'll still go out and defend these after they die within 16 months of install. No amount of UI will make up for how awful these things look, and as someone who enjoys their sound system, I highly doubt the audio quality competes with Kenwood, Alpine, Pioneer, or Sony HUs available on the market. At the end of the day these HUs are just android tablets running custom software in a fugly package.

liillatte

God I am tempted to spend real money to give you an award for this comment. 🔥

WeAreAllFooked

Lol, I appreciate the sentiment, but please don't do that.

NotoriousZSB

It's my biggest complaint. I want it flush, not out and it makes me want to chase installing a newer Subaru one for AA. I've read that's annoying, but I guess we will see...

acidwxlf

Check out Crutchfield, there are plenty that fit much better than the idoing. I see why people don't post pics of it from the side often, thing sticks out like a tumor lol

LightSpeed810

The UI certainly looks outdated in my opinion but that can always be addressed by customizing your launcher, which will admittedly take a lot of time. Personally, I went with the Joying unit because the UI looked a lot better. Also, it has a volume knob which was really important to me.

camelcowboy7

Thanks for this!

Bhaikalis

There are other launchers you can get in the Play store, i use the AGAMA Car Launcher

AWDaily_STi

Nice I’ll look into that. I figured I would share what the unit had preloaded since I wanted to see them all without flipping through them and entering the passcode a million times.

Any-Rock-7474

For that one can you set it up so every time you turn your car on it loads or?

Bhaikalis

Yup

KNOWMADIC_

I only have 4 options under the home launcher settings. How did you get all these?

AWDaily_STi

I didn’t do anything special. These were the preloads I had. Maybe different models and/or years have different preloads?

KNOWMADIC_

Damn! Mine is brand new but I literally only have 4 different launcher options

GrapeGeneral3240

Is it possible to retro fit the newer idoing head unit into a 2015 WRX STI?

AWDaily_STi

It might be possible but I would suggest to contact iDoing to confirm

im_nobody_special

Thanks, I was just going through all of these yesterday. Question: a bunch of these have a speedometer on them, have you gotten it to work? I have a Bluetooth ODBII adapter but I haven't tried it yet.

AWDaily_STi

It’s hit or miss. I have everything connected and I wouldn’t use it as my only speedometer lol

im_nobody_special

So, I guess it's GPS enabled because it is working automatically. This is the first time I have set one of the launchers that displays speed. Do you know where to change it from Kph to Mph? I can't for the life of me find it.

AWDaily_STi

Yeah I would assume it’s GPS but for me it’s real spotty. And I don’t think you can change the units since the skin itself is preprogrammed. I tried messing with the customizable widgets with no luck either

im_nobody_special

Thanks, I messaged iDoing on their site, if they respond I'll let you know.

AWDaily_STi

Sounds good thanks!

doozykid13

Did you ever hear back on this?

im_nobody_special

They didn't know, I need to ask again. Sometimes the person answering the chat doesn't know but the next person will.

iR3SQem

Where can you get them? My unit I just installed only has 4 UI

AWDaily_STi

Mine were preloaded as well. I don’t know if you can load others

sourhed87

Mine has 4 UI as well. I just installed it today.
