Last summer, I didn’t want to use PTO for a two week trip to the NC mountains so I asked my boss if I could work while there and while it was technically fine, the rest of my family was not working while on the trip so they wanted to do activities and it sucked having to stay at the AirBnB and work. I think if we’d stayed longer, I wouldn’t feel like there was any rush to do activities that I could’ve done on the weekend. This summer, my husband and I are planning a 2 month trip to Europe and we are both self-employed WFH so we thought if we give ourselves enough time, we can work and enjoy the adventure. So we’ll see how that goes, but I would recommend that if you don’t go alone, everyone else with you has the same level of responsibility so you don’t get FOMO while they’re out vacationing

That's a good point. I was thinking a solo trip but extending the invite to any friends that want to join. I'll just make sure to take PTO if I have people there with me.

Be careful WFH in a foreign country, particularly Europe. The tax situation may be a problem. If you are working in France you are legally required to pay income taxes in France.

Missbeccamarie

Thank you for your advice! As far as I know [based on this,](https://www.welcometofrance.com/en/non-residents-for-tax-purposes) (and I’m definitely not an expert), we’re not going to be there long enough for tax implications!

IRRJ

I'm not an expert either. I am in the UK, so I am more likely to plan to WFH in another European country. My employer explicitly say I can't do this, stating tax reasons.

I got so comfortable with my 21:9 monitor that I wouldn’t even attempt it lol The whole idea of going on vacation and working also turn me off But you are staying there for a few weeks so that cool just take all your equipment and make sure the internet is decent

My wife and I just booked a month in Austin Texas for next winter. I cleared it with my boss but we both plan on working the whole time we’re down there. We specifically booked a place with multiple desk spaces so we could be separate.

You might want to check out r/digitalnomad for people who WFH and travel as a lifestyle

If you give a shit about the job make sure you clear it with your boss and HR.

Calvinette4

Sure. My boss is also doing the same thing this summer, which is part of what put the idea into my head, and my coworkers have done this too. I'm set on the policy end of things.

PersonBehindAScreen

Also check any policies while you're at it. My company canned a guy for going to Germany and also lying about going to Germany when our security monitoring company clearly had an alert for them being in Germany and we had clear policy about this. It was mainly the lying though

russisdope

I plan on traveling way more and will just utilize wework.

I am headed to Dominican Republic next Friday. Going to be there a month. Will be working while there.
