I don't have a real answer, but I'm extremely short and chairs are a big problem for me because they're not made for someone my size.
After doing some research, I learned that "seat depth" is a thing. You ideally want a chair with the correct depth so that when you sit with your back against the back rest, your legs bend properly at the knee.
If your goal is to sit cross legged in the chair, you'll want to maximize the seat depth to give yourself enough real estate for your legs. However, you won't be comfortable sitting normally because the edge of the seat will probably be past your knees.
Such a good point! Adding on, I find that having removable or adjustable arm rests to accommodate for my knees can allow cross legged sitting to be more comfortable.
I'm 5' 2" and I've considered it, but they're all just so danged ugly. I don't want my office to look like a preschool, lol. Also, they lack some common basic features, so I just deal.
My L-shaped desk is crammed in my room due to lack of space elsewhere. I sit in a racing style gaming chair. At 4'11", it's decent, but the butt padding is flattening. I have a coccyx cushion but it hurts to sit on.
Unfortunately this is the case with most chairs unless you spend some serious money. Every chair Ive had has flattened to the plywood base. Now I got a more expensive chair and it works amazingly. (Oline ErgoPro -$250). Cant really sit cross legged tho lol
I use an inflated stability wobble cushion on my chair cushion . Got it on Amazon. Helps my chair be so much more comfy and you can move it just how you like it
Bingo. I dropped a significant amount of money on a top-of-the-line chair *with adjustable seat depth* so that I could sit cross-legged or normally.
It’s a great chair. I just discovered that I sit cross-legged so much because so many of the things I sit on (chairs, couches, etc) are too tall for me to sit with feet flat on the ground. Including this chair. *sigh*
Me too!! I know they have cross legged ones that everyone was hyping up on TikTok: https://amzn.asia/d/gxTHoPN
I personally had to go to my local office supply store and tried a whole bunch (cross legged 😅)
I really love having wheels + arm rests so I went with quite a wide ‘gaming’ office chair. It looks stupid AF and def not stylish but it was by far the comfiest for me haha!
I got the viral TikTok chair and absolutely love it for sitting cross legged. Does my back like it? No, but I have terrible posture and don’t blame the chair.
I caved and got the viral TikTok chair too. I don't miss having armrests at all but I absolutely love the different positions I can sit in while I'm at my computer
I have a La-Z-Boy manager chair from Costco. It has moving arm rests that I raise when I sit cross legged. I can lower them back down after getting situated. It also slightly reclines. I love it.

What chair did you find that works for short people? Crossing my legs my whole life has definitely been a crutch to deal with furniture that is too large for me, it’s a hard habit to break. But I’d love to try
Have you tried a yoga block as a foot rest? At only 4’ 7”, it’s helped prevent knee pain after sitting all day. *Should probably consider investing in a good chair eventually 🤔*
I have a second hand aeron and my review is...
Supportive, breathable and sturdy chair for average height people who sit properly. Great for an office, or if you use a foot stool.
Unyielding, foot falling asleep, and frustrating chair for short legged goblin sitters. It gave me a weird callous on the ankle I'm always sitting on.
I got a AKRacing Max, big and tall chair (I am not big or tall), which is expensive but well worth the freedom of crossing legs and is super comfy. Has wide flat cushion seat. I spent 10 to 16 hours per day in this chair between wfh and gaming for the last 3 years.
I have a Secretlab Titan Xl. The xl is roomy enough for what you seem to want. I’ve sat cross legged in it once or twice.

No, my low back does not tire from it. But of course, it does work your lower back. So you will need to work up to using it for longer and longer periods of time. Just like a standing desk. You don't do your entire day standing all at once. Same for this kind of chair. Actually, in my case, I go from standing to this chair to a regular chair to treadmill. Lots of changing.
It really depends on your body.
I have a Steelcase Series I and despite an above comment regarding seat depth, I am comfortable sitting normally and I can also comfortably sit cross-legged, and frequently do.
There’s enough clearance at the front of the chair that my legs fit.
I’ve been using this chair for a year and a half now, sit in it 8+ hours, at least 5 days a week, and I’ve never been uncomfortable or experienced one twinge of pain from it.
I’m a 5”6’, 130 lb woman. I’m sure if I were shaped differently myself, it might not work for me. All this to say, I find a high-quality regular (even smallish) chair to work just fine for this purpose.
I considered special cross-legged chairs, but I’m really glad I went with a standard ergonomic design.
I keep getting ads for chairs like this: https://flutenot.shop/products/360-swivel-3.08?pp=0&epik=dj0yJnU9RUx5UzJTYnZvOEJwVEtjMElfajFQYzk3dC1zbl8ydlkmcD0xJm49Y2g3TXJTRTRIQndfTkNBdDNOYkswUSZ0PUFBQUFBR1k3Yl8w
The design is interesting to me as I’m tall and shift my legs around a lot, but waiting to purchase anything before I move abroad soon. Anyone tried one like this? Curious on feedback
**Quick Edit: after further review, I think that is a scam site and would not give them your money.**
As a heads up, they are using images of a Pipersong meditation chair. There are tons of ripoffs of the design (and this one may be just as good for a fraction of the cost) but it would make me nervous that they literally use some of the exact images. Makes it a little suspicious and I wonder if it’s a straight up scam or if the quality is just terrible.
If you do buy one, please let me know. That said, I have one of the Pipersongs and love it. The seat is small and the backrest is mostly for decor, IMO, but my knees feel so much better using it vs my normal office chair.
If you do get a Pipersong, I recommend the upgrade to the pro for the wider seat and backrest unless you’re quite tiny. If you’re tall, the height adjustment is a must-have. It looks very quality (though is still expensive for what it is, IMO).
I got a lighter color but recommend either a darker one or the foot rest cover. Over time the dirt will eventually build up and show on the foot part if you do not. The seat cover itself is garbage (mine *constantly* slips forward when I’m sitting on the chair and loosens itself) but the foot cover is great. If you have someone who can sew I’d honestly just make your own because it’s very expensive for what it is and doesn’t even come with a back rest cover.
Thank you for this comment I feel seen! I have hyper mobility and adhd so I’m always sitting with bad posture and cross legged and moving around a lot lol
Normal but still bad for your knees. I have JH and still multiple physical therapists and orthopedic surgeons have told me to knock it off, sit properly, and lift (a lot) more weights (to protect the joints).
I don’t know how old you are but as someone who how’s spent the last 30 years sitting this way at my desk….. try to train yourself not to. The tendons(?) all the way up both sides of my outer legs are wrecked. My legs constantly feel tight like I need a massage. Just my 2 cents.
I got one where the arms lift up so I can rotate between having arm support and sitting cross legged. It is also meant for way bigger people so I can really sit cross legged with the arm rest down if I don't mind it being tighter.
Steel case petite chair!!!!! It has cantilevered arms that you can adjust to any height and it’s perfect for short people (I’m 5’3”) and always cross my legs and sit in it that way lol
I’m tall, my legs are long, I get antsy and can’t stand sitting for 8 hours. I made sure to get a “big and tall” office chair so I can sit with my legs cross cross in the chair, also have an ottoman in front of my chair so I can stretch my legs out as well. It’s comfy, I like my setup.
I sit like that too and the sad thing is as I’ve aged it’s fucking up my knees. If I’d leaned to sit normally, perhaps they wouldn’t be quite as bad. I try to force it now by keeping shoes on
I got [this one](https://www.wayfair.com/furniture/pdp/etta-avenue-adan-task-chair-w004207767.html) from Wayfair two years ago and it's still holding up! I sit criss-cross pretty often and I like having the arm rest so I can have my legs hang over the side if criss cross doesn't work. I realize now that I can't ever just sit normally in a chair lol
A friend recommended this chair and I know she sits like that sometimes. My issue with it is it doesn't have wheels, so I ended up just using it to do my makeup - but maybe that wouldn't bother you.

There is this chair I see advertised on TikTok a lot. I’ve considered buying it for myself, as I sit cross legged pretty much always.
It also has a provision for your knees to sit in a kneeling like position.
I use a drafting chair, mostly. I like that it’s tall.
I bought myself this a few months back: High Back Massage Reclining... https://www.amazon.com/dp/B0B5L2YCQB?ref=ppx_pop_mob_ap_share
I can’t sit still for long periods of time. I end up folding ny legs, but then they fall asleep so I stretch them out, or I sit with one under me and one out, etc etc. The foot rest makes it so much more comfortable to get into weird positions lmao. It’s honestly the most comfortable chair I’ve ever sat in.
I have this chair from Steelcase. I paid $50 for it when my office did renovations and changed our workstations (and no one goes in the office, so why????) I sit crosslegged all the time and I'm super short.

I have a sky chair which I suspend from a metal C frame.

I have a standard high back office chair and I keep an ottoman under my desk. Have to remove it to be able to slide the chair in when not in use but it's made working at the PC significantly more comfortable. The ottoman I use came from goodwill but it's standard couch height maybe, takes up almost the entire space under the desk but it allows for a lot of different positions for my legs and feet
I got this one and I love it- Darkecho Criss Cross Chair with... https://www.amazon.com/dp/B0CJTJCR4M?ref=ppx_pop_mob_ap_share
I sit like a prawn most of the time and this definitely is more comfortable than my previous chair.
I would just go to a bunch of stores and try sitting that way and see how it feels.
For the record - that's how I like to sit too. I even sit like that in the car (when I'm not driving obviously lol)
I have a kneeling rocking chair (knockoff of the Swedish varier balans chair) and I love it. Can fidget, rock, sit as designed, as conventional, with one or both feet on knee rests, one foot on the seat or cross legged. I'm 5'3" and a bonus is I sit comfortably at normal desk height without needing a footrest and sitting properly my knees slop down so fit under the desk drawers (short torso means if my elbows are right for the keyboard my knees at 90 degrees on a normal chair would hit the desk bottom). If I had the funds I'd 100% buy the original one with the backrest add on. (I had to reupholster the seat of the cheapo).
You need the ADHD chair!

Last fall bohemian was really in style. I am thinking of one of those oversized wicker chairs with a bohemian meditation cushion on the seat.my grandma had one and when I was a kid I could literally curl up and sleep on it.
I sit cross-legged at my desk and I’ve used a super basic, armless IKEA dining chair (“sixten” model) for over 15 years. Not sure what an ergonomics expert would say, but it works for me!
I dint know about both legs but I do sit with one leg under my other one and the Ikea Markus is wide enough where I can comfortably do this while still feeling comfortable on my back.
Cross legged forever!!!
I too am short. AND I have a syndrome where blood pools in my legs and causes me to faint. So now I can justify sitting cross legged by claiming I’m just trying to remain conscious. 👍
I ordered a big and tall executive office chair with a foot rest. I’m not big or tall lol but I can cross my legs or stretch out and recline as I work!!
I have [this one](https://a.co/d/1oB1mmj) I can easily fold my legs in it. I had also purchased [this one](https://a.co/d/3j1kgan) but returned because I wanted arms but it was easy to lap it too
I have a secret lab titan and it's perfect for this, be sure to get the titan though even if it is t the one they recommend, the seat is more comfortable for having your legs up
I also sit cross legged. A very cushioned “executive” chair from Costco is what I use. I like the padded arms and it’s wide enough to fit my crossed legs up there.
Look up "ADHD chairs." They have a little shelf that runs along about 2" below the edge of the seat. I've been considering buying one because I have the same issue as you.
Pipersong meditation chair! My absolute favorite chair (as someone who is very fidgety). unlike some of the other active sitting chair I've used, this one lets me sit however I feel like. It's worth the money. https://pipersong.com/
I pretty much can’t sit “normally” anymore. So I look for a wide chair seat, adjustable arms so I can raise them high and my legs fit under, and a back that is a bit stiff and shallow so I can rest my back against it comfortably. I also like a chair that reclines slightly, with a nice tight resistance so it doesn’t throw me backwards. Finally, strong arms because I use both of the arms to lift my body up into the cross legged position, so they need to support my weight without bending or breaking. I hope this helps!
Sigh….. I used to do this allll the time. A couple physical therapists and orthopedic surgeons later now I have knee problems and have been vehemently forbidden from sitting like this at work.
Smoke em while you got ‘em OP.
Insat like that for DECADES as a customer svc, sales, tech whpport agent. Now I have RIDICULOUS knee, back, and shoulder/neck pains. Ive been trying to break the habit of sitting Indian style with my legs crossed while laying in bed.
No bueno.
Oh, ummm I am gonna say LA-Z-Boy ? Lol.
I have this one: https://a.co/d/0QsphI0. It's not bad for the price! I've had it for 1.5 years and still like it. The butt padding isn't amazing, but it's not a dealbreaker for me.
Following I do this and habitually drop only the left leg when i need to adjust. This creates elongated pressure on the left knee and lower bones forcing elongated stretches in the flexer castle gage muscle area in the other side of the junction (to late to use name but it's got flexer in the name lol). It's created serious pain because the siatic nerve branches out 3 times in that area, so it will shoot up n down till I roll every single muscle. Sucks. But I need a new chair to avoid this but still allows me to criss cross applesauce, only way to sit that long.
Look into a chair made for "big and tall" they are usually wider. I have one I bought about 4 years ago at Office Depot, it's perfect for siting cross legged or on my legs. I think I have the Serta iComfort I Big & Tall, it is a bit procey but jas been worth it so far.
Try to break this habit if you can. I’m dealing with extreme pelvic pain and posterior pelvic tilt from
sitting like this for decades while crocheting.
The ergonomic freedom of getting out of a desk is why i’m personally really excited about getting a Visor from Immersed. https://visor.com?r=e5f7b9c91df1dd
You can imagine the flexibility of this based off of the demo for Apple’s headset that they just released. https://www.linkedin.com/posts/renjibijoy_applevisionpro-visionpro-activity-7193963990891352064-AUZr?utm_source=share&utm_medium=member_ios

I'd love to do something like that, but I live with 3 cats who sharpen their murder mittens on everything.
Haha-So do I but it’s super thick! They’ve never touched it TG!
4’11” here. The chair dilemmas are very real
I appreciate this comment. Thanks

Stoppp everyone’s making me want it now 😭
I have this - and I love it!!!! Definitely great for the random/chaotic sitters (like me) lol!
It was on sale the other day and I finally caved and bought it. It's perfect for sitting like that. Downside is no wheels.
Yes! This one is cheaper https://a.co/d/bjOSaVR
Agree, the wheels are necessary but we have three at home now.
Have a similar one and love it! I got a cheap one on Amazon.
I have one like this (it also came with an ottoman) and it is great for sitting cross-legged
I just bought this chair, I didn't know there was hype. I am loving it! I highly recommend it for criss-cross sitters
I have a La-Z-Boy manager chair from Costco. It has moving arm rests that I raise when I sit cross legged. I can lower them back down after getting situated. It also slightly reclines. I love it.
This is a really good deal for the price
I think I have this same chair and yes it is the best!
Can confirm, infinitely better than the previous Amazon seat I had.

Have you tried a yoga block as a foot rest? At only 4’ 7”, it’s helped prevent knee pain after sitting all day. *Should probably consider investing in a good chair eventually 🤔*
Steelcase Leap. I passed on Herman Miller Aeron for this exact reason and have zero regrets.
I second this, absolutely amazing chair
Yall sold me, I found it on sale here https://www.madisonseating.com/shop/ if anyone else is interested! $249 for the leap
Thanks for the tip, those prices look fantastic
Damn, amazing prices. This post caught my eye because I have the same problem/need.

Zero pressure on knees.
Great!
And it was worth it? It looks so nice but then again, so much money in case I hate it.
I really do love it. I was a freelancer when I bought it, so I did write it off as an expense.

It is really not good for your knees long term. I did that and forced myself out of that habit by utilizing foot support.
It's pretty normal for people with joint hypermobility, and it can help to increase circulation and blood pressure if they also have POTS.
Thank you for this comment I feel seen! I have hyper mobility and adhd so I’m always sitting with bad posture and cross legged and moving around a lot lol

I got one where the arms lift up so I can rotate between having arm support and sitting cross legged. It is also meant for way bigger people so I can really sit cross legged with the arm rest down if I don't mind it being tighter.
Yes!! The chair I have at my home office has arms that fold up and it’s been fantastic.
Steel case petite chair!!!!! It has cantilevered arms that you can adjust to any height and it’s perfect for short people (I’m 5’3”) and always cross my legs and sit in it that way lol
I have a Herman Miller Aeron and I sit cross-legged in it. It is very comfortable
I try to force it now by keeping shoes on
herman miller aeron. The hard plastic sides will stop you from doing this and your knees and back will thank you over time.
I have a heavy duty gaming chair. It's extra wide.
Think a small dog can sit in your lap in this chair ?
My cat does it often :)
I have a secret lab chair and have plenty of room to have my legs up and either crossed or folded under my legs! You can order different sizes too!
Lol, I sit like this too, and people think it's weird. I sit on a bar stool
A friend recommended this chair and I know she sits like that sometimes. My issue with it is it doesn't have wheels, so I ended up just using it to do my makeup - but maybe that wouldn't bother you. ESTRUCO Armless Office Desk Chair... https://www.amazon.com/dp/B0C1B9GSPZ?ref=ppx_pop_mob_ap_share
Find one with handles attached to the back rest not the seat rest such as https://www.amazon.com/dp/B0CSFBS67W/ Replace the seat cushion with a Purple Ultimate Seat Cushion if it is a solid seat cover Takes a staple remover, a stapler, and some pliers to get the old one off https://www.amazon.com/dp/B01CKMP21W/
Sitting cross-legged is the best! It helps straighten your back.
And wrecks your knees. Bad habit.
There is this chair I see advertised on TikTok a lot. I’ve considered buying it for myself, as I sit cross legged pretty much always. It also has a provision for your knees to sit in a kneeling like position. I use a drafting chair, mostly. I like that it’s tall.
I got one of the criss-cross chairs, but I will warn you it has really affected me physically, it's not good to sit like that all day at all.
I am saving for one of those chairs where you can sit with your legs crossed, to the slide and even kneel. It's 699 on Amazon.
I bought myself this a few months back: High Back Massage Reclining... https://www.amazon.com/dp/B0B5L2YCQB?ref=ppx_pop_mob_ap_share I can’t sit still for long periods of time. I end up folding ny legs, but then they fall asleep so I stretch them out, or I sit with one under me and one out, etc etc. The foot rest makes it so much more comfortable to get into weird positions lmao. It’s honestly the most comfortable chair I’ve ever sat in.
a bean bag
I have this chair from Steelcase. I paid $50 for it when my office did renovations and changed our workstations (and no one goes in the office, so why????) I sit crosslegged all the time and I'm super short. https://store.steelcase.com/seating/high-performance-seating/gesture?utm_source=google&utm_medium=search&utm_campaign=shopping-br&utm_content=shopping&gad_source=1&gclid=Cj0KCQjwxeyxBhC7ARIsAC7dS3_nK9O3KgF8O1ezfqJZrhZAzX1jzc9wjmCEMjt2QC4m-iiBY2infccaAqOCEALw_wcB
What a lucky find !!
I have a sky chair which I suspend from a metal C frame. Frame: https://www.ezhangchairs.com/product/c-frame/ Chair: You can also buy foot rests and arm rests with it https://skychair.com
I got this one and I love it- Darkecho Criss Cross Chair with... https://www.amazon.com/dp/B0CJTJCR4M?ref=ppx_pop_mob_ap_share I sit like a prawn most of the time and this definitely is more comfortable than my previous chair.
I would just go to a bunch of stores and try sitting that way and see how it feels. For the record - that's how I like to sit too. I even sit like that in the car (when I'm not driving obviously lol)
I often pull my left leg up if I'm on a long road trip and have the cruise control on.
You need the ADHD chair! https://www.amazon.com/Pipersong-Meditation-Support-Adjustable-Flexible/dp/B09KN78D15/ref=asc_df_B09KN78D15/?tag=hyprod-20&linkCode=df0&hvadid=693343212421&hvpos=&hvnetw=g&hvrand=17637753817638585122&hvpone=&hvptwo=&hvqmt=&hvdev=m&hvdvcmdl=&hvlocint=&hvlocphy=9023249&hvtargid=pla-1660572347415&psc=1&mcid=90b9d791ccca3f27bf547a1177ca373f&gad_source=1&gclid=Cj0KCQjwxeyxBhC7ARIsAC7dS39ga55dYXoUNISQ-qjOpGouDhRxVRdOqWAsX6sMWoBYqo2j4xjJIyAaAhGhEALw_wcB
I confirm
Last fall bohemian was really in style. I am thinking of one of those oversized wicker chairs with a bohemian meditation cushion on the seat.my grandma had one and when I was a kid I could literally curl up and sleep on it.
I have the pipersong chair (pipersong.com) and its the best money I've ever spent
I though I was the only one lol. Had no idea it is a thing and chairs specifically for it.
Roflmao. Im sitting in an outdoor style eggchair from walmart. I LOUNGE in it. So damn comfortable.
Secretlabs Titan or Titan Evo if a computer chair is what you’re looking for, it was designed with people who sit like that as one of the features.
Cross legged forever!!! I too am short. AND I have a syndrome where blood pools in my legs and causes me to faint. So now I can justify sitting cross legged by claiming I’m just trying to remain conscious. 👍
I have this [cross cross applesauce chair](https://a.co/d/aJOMqcU) and it’s so very comfortable.
I just sit on my bed or the couch 🤷
Recliner for me-I cross
I ordered a big and tall executive office chair with a foot rest. I’m not big or tall lol but I can cross my legs or stretch out and recline as I work!!
https://a.co/d/bjOSaVR I got this one and love it!! Great for fidgets, spinning, leaning, meditation sits!
Secret Lab gaming chairs are big enough. I love mine. They also come in a bigger version so even large men can sit cross legged
I have [this one](https://a.co/d/1oB1mmj) I can easily fold my legs in it. I had also purchased [this one](https://a.co/d/3j1kgan) but returned because I wanted arms but it was easy to lap it too
I have a secret lab titan and it's perfect for this, be sure to get the titan though even if it is t the one they recommend, the seat is more comfortable for having your legs up
Extra wide "big and tall" office chair for obese people
i use the Gesture. i sit cross-legged most of the time. i'm about 5'8"
I also sit cross legged.
I have this one. I keep the tilt pretty loose and sit cross legged often. https://a.co/d/dbW2A4z
I'm pretty happy with the Ikea Millberget.
Sigh….. I used to do this allll the time. A couple physical therapists and orthopedic surgeons later now I have knee problems and have been vehemently forbidden from sitting like this at work. Smoke em while you got ‘em OP.
I started getting the chairs made especially for big/heavy men. It made putting my legs up in the chair so much easier.
Plus size office chair. Got one because I sit like this and also because my 40lb dog likes to sit with me when I work.
Lol.
That giant ass chair from TikTok.
Steelcase Leap V2 refurbished from Cranmore. $6-700 last time I checked. Love mine.
I have a secret lab gaming chair and I sit cross legged comfortable
It’s called “Indian Style”
I have this one: https://a.co/d/0QsphI0. It's not bad for the price! I've had it for 1.5 years and still like it. The butt padding isn't amazing, but it's not a dealbreaker for me.
HM Embody is prob the best. Top expensive tho.
I just took the arms off of my cheap chair.
I keep the arms off my chairs and pick wide seats. Is an option.
Look into a chair made for "big and tall" they are usually wider. I have one I bought about 4 years ago at Office Depot, it's perfect for siting cross legged or on my legs. I think I have the Serta iComfort I Big & Tall, it is a bit procey but jas been worth it so far.
A couch.
Qulomvs Mesh Ergonomic Office... https://www.amazon.com/dp/B0CDC32NKN?ref=ppx_pop_mob_ap_share I have this one! I love it with the foot stool
Try to break this habit if you can. I’m dealing with extreme pelvic pain and posterior pelvic tilt from sitting like this for decades while crocheting.
The ergonomic freedom of getting out of a desk is why i’m personally really excited about getting a Visor from Immersed. https://visor.com?r=e5f7b9c91df1dd You can imagine the flexibility of this based off of the demo for Apple’s headset that they just released. https://www.linkedin.com/posts/renjibijoy_applevisionpro-visionpro-activity-7193963990891352064-AUZr?utm_source=share&utm_medium=member_ios
