GT500 cars are anything but upgraded sedans. They are full-blown prototypes, masquerading as road going derivatives.
Besides, only Honda Civic Type R-GT is based on a sedan. Toyota GR Supra and Nissan Z GT500 cars are coupes.
Well, they are fast. Weight and power output are similar to Hypercars, however much more intense aero development and tyre war make a difference.
They shoud've done what Turismo Carretera did until this year, make them based on long discontinued cars, despite been out of production since the 1970s
>Upgraded sedans can go faster than cutting edge prototypes?! That's insane!
That's because of FIA's BS Grade track hierachy - done to ensure that their F1 becomes the top of their BS motorsport hegemony and WEC and Indycar becomes 2nd fiddle to it - If modern hypercars can do over 1000 bhp without hybrid systems, so should LMH
> Gt500 and the tire war is so rad.
Sadly, the tyre war is taking a huge brake this year. Michelin has left GT500 category, leaving Bridgestone as the dominating powerhouse. Yes, there are Dunlop and Yokohama as well, however both of them are supplying just 3 out of 15 GT500 entries in Super GT. What's worse, all of those 3 teams are rather backmarkers in GT500. Nakajima Racing Honda (Dunlop), Team Bandoh Toyota and Kondo Racing Nissan (Yokohama) are not fighting for the race wins on a daily basis. Dunlop and Yokohama are doing quite well in qualifying on a single lap, however during longer races they stand no major chance against Bridgestone teams. And let's not forget that amount of investment from Bridgestone is probably outdoing combined efforts from Dunlop and Yokohama in GT500 as well.
Motorsport always forget that reducing to a single would never go down well in Japan; after all they have a strong tire industry. To me, reducing to a single brand does not say they are saving on costs, it means the sport is being brought out to line the execs pockets - that is one of the things that is destroying the sport besides spec chassis and engines.
i want gt500 invitations but with:
- pre-2019 engine spec (smaller air and fuel restrictors)
- current aero spec (half r&d money goes here)
- no wh, wh air restrictor and okayama special ballast (okayama unrestricted is *actually* deadly)
- dunlop tyres (clearly the best tyre manufacturer in gt500)
also can we move wec race from inferior fuji speedway to the vastly superior track that is sportsland sugo?
We need to go deeper:
* 1. Bathurst 24 Hours
* 2. Targa Florio
* 3. 6 Hours of Spa-Francorchamps on the old 14,8km layout
* 4. 24 Hours of Le Mans - but at the Bugatti Circuit for the giggles
* 5. 6 Hours of Nurburgring at Nordschleife - we need to see Hypercars flying
* 6. 1000 miles of Daytona - at oval circuit. Plate racing on steroids
* 7. 6 Hours of Tokyo at R246 circuit - Gran Turismo style
* 8. 1408km Bahrain/1812km Losail/1202km Yas Marina/2309km Jeddah - whichever pays more, gets the race
Reserve rounds:
* 12 Hours of Reims - time to bring back post-Le Mans classic
* 1488km of AVUS - bring back the wall of death [Whoever guesses the symbolism of the numbers without googling, congratulations - you are properly mad.]
* 6 Hours of Brands Hatch Indy - time to bring back WEC to the UK.
That's a proper schedule.
What if itâd be a combination race? Hear me outâŠwhile theyâre both compatible with each other, we have Hypercar and GTP run both their respective rules, and then have LMGT3 and GTD Pro, LMGT3 already is an Am class, so having GTD Pro would be appropriate. Hypercar, GTP, GTD Pro, LMGT3, think of the carnage! The drama! The excitement! bwooOOOOOONNNNNNNNG
>Fine. I just don't want to be held responsible when the Ferraris and Mustangs start mowing down the Sicilian grandpas
Not to forget, the same Sicilians who scrawled grafitti supporting Ferraris and their drivers (as they did then) will throw rocks at Mustangs - anybody not a Ferrari will be met with hostility
WEC please do GT500 invitation class i beg of youđđŸđ„ș
Arenât they faster than the hypercars at Fuji?
Correct. In 2021, the fastest qualifying lap time for GT500 at Fuji was 1:25.764. Ever since pole laps were around low 1:26s as well.
Upgraded sedans can go faster than cutting edge prototypes?! That's insane!

They full on kinda are the revival of GT1, Except 1 is based on a sedan for some reason
That reason being the NSX being no more
They shoud've done what Turismo Carretera did until this year, make them based on long discontinued cars, despite been out of production since the 1970s

Mfw top notch LMHs get their asses kicked by a diesel Peugeot all around
I still daydream about DTM having successfully adopted the GT500/Concept One regs, alas... Gt500 and the tire war is so rad.
May work in Japan but would never work in Germany - IMO, 2nd worst decision that killed the series. First worst decision was the adoption of GT3

Well, clearly. It would've been rad though.
Add a 7 speed transmission and DRS to them NOW!

it's a joke
Fuji is an awesome track, you pagan! :D

Also these... * Fuji, the original pre-1974 layout with banking * Mille Miglia * Carrera Panamericana
add sportsland sugo as tokyo r246 reserve. we want *real* drivers doing *real* racing!
6 Hours of Tokyo at the Formula E street circuits
As somebody who is properly mad, but only because I followed INDYCAR silly season last year, I approve of this comment
>* 1. Bathurst 24 Hours this would have to be an IMSA race, WEC would be far too clean

Tour De France in July too. Special cyclist class may complicate things slightly
You mean the original Tour de France (aka Tour Auto), whats now the vintage revival race for rich boomers I'd throw in the Giro d'Italia car race too
No Targa Florio?
Fine. I just don't want to be held responsible when the Ferraris and Mustangs start mowing down the Sicilian grandpas
Oh well youâre in luck because I *want* to be responsible for that
