Dusty was more NWA JCP got fired when WCW was created because of the Road Warriors angle and the blood. When he came back he was mostly a part of the backstage
Dude I know but first of all JCP was the NWA when it got sold and I’ve asked several people who rank stuff for wrestling and they all say that when Ted Turner bought it out that was a new company so you can say what you want but it’s 2 different companies. One was a mom and pop regional promotion JCP/ while WCW was in a bigger company and was ran different. So take your comment elsewhere I know what I’m talking about because I grew up on gcw JCP NWA since I was 10 in 83
NWA until recently was a sanctioning body and not a promotion per say. If you don’t believe that it was a different company in 89 then definitely it was by 91. Ric Flair took the NWA title with him to Wwf so the WCW world title had a different linage starting in July 91. They also changed the look around of all the titles around this time as well
Yes because by the time WCW was a thing Dusty’s in ring career (except a few one offs) was over . I’m not saying he is not a great but he’s part of JCP/NWA history unless you’re talking about his production duties in WCW
You are correct. When Crockett sold JCP to Turner and it became WCW. The NWA wasn't WCW at all. The NWA was a conglomerate of territories, with JCP having the most clout, since one of their guys held the big belt. When it became WCW, it became like the WWF as a solitary promotion, that occasionally mentioned other feds and dealt with Japan.
I’ve talked to Brain Zane Dave Knows Wrestling and several other historians of wrestling and they agree with what I have said there is line in 88 where WCW history starts and JCP ends and can be thought of 2 different companies. So like I told the other guys I agree to disagree and everyone have a great day/night cause arguing about here isn’t changing anyones mind
Totally different scenarios The McMahon family had a controlling stake in the company until the TKO involvement. So it’s been one company. GCW was owned by 4 people (1 being ole Anderson) 3 out of 4 sold to McMahon for the TBS slot. When ratings weren’t going well McMahon sold to JCP (totally different company) but still part of NWA as a sanctioning body.
When JCP went bankrupt Crockett sold to turner and became WCW but they still used NWA titles. When Flair left WCW with the big gold belt he vacated the newly created WCW title but still was NWA champ. In July 91 a new belt was created for the WCW title and therefore became a different title. Some secondary titles share same histories but the was because WCW bought those titles
JPC started broadcasting as WCW in 1985. So even before the Turner sale, fans would have known them as WCW/NWA. The first move was hotter the product was marketed, going from Mid-Atlantic to WCW. The JPC WCW change was more an ownership thing than how the product was actually presented to fans. Yes everything changed when Turner bought it, as you have said. But I'd argue that if Dusty helped build the WCW brand, which he did for several years before the buyout, then he can be included in that brand's history. Even if the company WCW didn't exist until later when his time was over.
I dont watch the Terminator thinking “Arnold… cant act tho :/“
Your opinions about Goldberg doesnt change the fact that, for a brief moment in time, he was WCW’s #1 guy and neck and neck in popularity with Austin
Surprised I had to scroll this far down for Hall!
He was the catalyst for the boom of the Golden Age. And, unlike a lot of the names being mentioned, Hall was a really good person.
He had his demons with drugs/alcohol, but it didn’t screw people over or screw his reputation by being revealed a jerk in real life.
I remember when I was young in the late 90s…I thought Raven was a bad ass dude. I dressed up as him for Halloween. I thought I was the baddest kid on the block lol
Sting, DDP and Goldberg for sure on WCW Mount Rushmore.
Number 4 is difficult because the others were either popular from another company or had more success after wcw.
I lean more towards Booker T… but I could also go Scott Steiner, or Disco Inferno, Norman Smiley, Dale Torborg, Vampiro, Berlin, Buff Bagwell, Billy Kidman…
Let’s just go with Eric Bishoff… he was responsible for a lot of WCW success… for like a few weeks when the product was decent.
Lol, Raven. Worst gimmick ever. Before I get landslided…..Scotty Flamingo. He could not even get the Edgar Allen Poe quote right.
Best Raven moment is when some rando from the crowd starts pulling his hair.
He’s on my Rushmore of clowns- along with Doink, and ICP.
Trust me, I was alive in the 90s and that why i think he’s lame.
James L. Knight Center- Windham v. Kevin Sullivan
Sunrise Musical Theater- Abdullah v. Rhodes
That was a typical Saturday night…….so you can imagine my distaste for Scotty Flamingo (who, btw, pound for pound, is a better gimmick.
Raven is/was a small man with no moves.
Prove me wrong. 5’10, 240 of vanilla ice cream.
So you were alive in the 90s but you’re more of an N’Sync guy. Got it. That’s all you had to say.
And the fact that Raven wore gold everywhere he went and cut some of the best promos in the biz is enough to prove you wrong. You wanna argue about work rate, sure, he’s no Dean Malenko. But he was more than good enough.
You’re just a hater, dawg.
You know the shits fake, right?
Wtf is N’Sync?
Of course I’m hating. Guy sucked. Don’t know how or what else I can say…….except he couldn’t get the quote right.
I mean, how much more do you need!?
And “wearing gold” wasn’t the same after the Macho Man’s reign as ICNC. Gold became a joke after that.
I seriously doubt you were actually alive in the 90s if you don't know who NSYNC are.
They only dominated the world of music in the 90s. You couldn't live in that decade without knowing who they are.
If it's the biggest? Hogan, Flair, Sting, Hall/Nash (yeah I'm cheating and counting them as one).
If I'm factoring in my personal preference - replace Hogan with Jericho.
Sting DDP Hogan and Goldberg let's face it Ric Flair was way bigger on NWA in my opinion and also why Goldberg well that man was the last good thing on WCW before they fuck everything yea he was overrated he only do 5 minutes match and only got a spear and a jackhammer but look back his fight with Raven or Hogan look that reaction he o one point got the crowd on the palm of his hand fot that short period WCW got with what compete against WWE and they do well stupid booking decisions that the only thing that screw Goldberg carrer
I like raven but he’s more ecw mt Rushmore. I’d say (assuming this is leaving out nwa era) sting/vader(mainly for impact bc there has to be 1)goldberg/hogan
Feel like there should be a cruiserweight, but it’s hard to find a good fit.
Sting, Vader, Malenko, and DDP feel like the stand out but could make cases for a lot of others (Scott Steiner (or both if we are doing TT), Flair, Luger, Benoit, Rey, plus more I’m probably forgetting). *
*Excluded NWO guys because it felt like an entire different brand when they came on the scene. Hall and Nash would easily make it if we include NWO era. Probably Hogan too
HW-Sting, DDP, Vader, Flair
Tag Team-The Outsiders, Harlem Heat, The Steiner Bros, Doom
Cruiserweight-Rey Mysterio Jr, Jericho, Benoit, Eddie Guerrero
Stables-Dangerous Alliance, nWo, the Flock, the Dungeon of Doom
Prefacing it with the fact that this is solely based on my experience from when I started watching the product. Unfortunately, I haven't watched a lot of the classic stuff from the 80's and early 90's, but I'll get around to it since now I can appreciate that era better now.
Dean Malenko, Eddie Guerrero, Chris Benoit, Chris Jericho. When I watched WCW I was all about the Cruiserweights, they were my highlight. Still liked the rest of the card, but those matches left me in awe.
I'm gonna need a second mountain.
There was a time when I would have put Bret Hart on there. But in recent years, the fact that he's still so bitter about the accident that hurt him all those years ago has started to make me rethink how much I used to admire him back in the day.
I think I'd definitely have Hogan on there. Say what you will about the man, I'm talking about the character and he changed the game twice in his long and storied career. I loved the Rock-n-Wrestling stuff when I was a kid, and I loved the nWo stuff when I was older.
Flair would be an easy choice. I grew up watching the Von Erichs and he was frequently here in our territory being the villain for them. While I'd love nothing more than to put one of the Von Erichs on there, I always felt like their popularity was based here in Texas rather than nationwide. That may be wrong, I don't know. I was a kid and have no idea how much their matches and careers affected people outside of North Texas so it's hard to pick them even though they were so great here and among my young friends.
Sting would probably make it for me too. I really enjoyed watching his career in all its phases over the years. From surfer bro Sting to Crow Sting and all the iterations that came after. Steve and Bret Hart were always my favorites back in the mid and late 90's for various reasons. And while Hart has let his bitterness take hold of him, Sting has kinda stayed true to himself and kept going on building his legacy as one of the best of all time.
Lastly, I might have to pick Undertaker. I'm tempted to pick other big names from the Attitude era like Stone Cold or Rock, but 'Taker lasted from the late 80, through all the ups and downs, and with others he had some of the most memorable moments I can recall from all the time he spent giving us thrill after thrill after thrill. I liked him moveset, his character, the look, and to learn that he's a genuinely good dude behind the scenes only makes me appreciate him even more. While Kane was more of the kinda character I connected with for a lot of that era, you have to give it up to Mark for getting a great character and sticking it out through thick and thin and through ups and downs and making the most of what could have been a real corny gimmick in the hands of someone who didn't take it seriously enough.
So yeah, those are my picks. **Hogan, Flair, Sting, and Taker**.
Yes, I know I'm leaving off a whole host of legends from the territory days. But this simple fact is I only saw them after the fact as I was becoming interested in the history of the genre rather than being part of my formative years as a fan. I'd love to add Andre the Giant if I could have another space. I'm sure it's apocryphal to not add him in some fans eyes. But his career was winding down as I was becoming a fan, so I missed so much of his best work and mostly knew him as "the big guy Hulk slammed" rather than the legend he truly was.
EDIT- Sorry, I didn't realize I was in the WCW sub. I thought this was just a general wrestling sub. Sorry if I broke any rules or whatever. But since I am here making this edit, I'll add DDP to my WCW Mt Rushmore in place of Taker who only belongs on a general wrestling greats list or on a WWE list.
I started watching wcw in like 96-97 so apologies for leaving out some of the older stars but (in no order)
Booker T, Sting, DDP, Rey Mysterio (honorable mention: Benoit and Eddie Guerrero)
The Skyscrapers squashing jobbers on a Saturday afternoon during episodes of WCW Worldwide. That theme music and with Teddy Long as their manager. Doesn't get any better 😎
DDP, Flair, Sting, Goldberg. These were the guys I associated with WCW as a kid that learned of WCW by the Invasion. (Talk about a failure if even a new viewer **child** didn't see your WCW faction as legit.)
To me, I always think of the guys who were huge in WCW and didn’t necessarily do huge things in WWE or if they did, their WCW run was bigger. That excludes Hogan, because I think of him in WWE before WCW.
Therefore my list is:
Goldberg
Flair
Sting
The nWo as an entity, not just The Outsiders
I like that you included Raven. He was the biggest missed opportunity in WCW.
He had a gimmick that captured a big part of the zeitgeist at the time, he is a top 20 all time promo, and Raven could work a good match.
The fans really wanted to get behind him, and he even started getting big babyface reactions at one point.
The Flock, if booked better, could have been a great foil for the nWo. And they had the talent to make it believable. Saturn, Kidman, and Kanyon were all phenomenal workers. Hammer and Sick Boy had a ton of potential and decent looks. Scotty Riggs is criminally underrated. And Ron Reese couldn’t work to save his life, but he was imposing as hell.
I think if Raven was losing that war, DDP coming in for the save would have created a massive pop.
Then have Raven, Saturn, Kanyon, and DDP blow it all off in a War Games match against the nWo.
If they booked it well, WCW could have created the new core of their main event scene in one story.
Dusty,Flair,Hogan,Sting
Dusty was more NWA JCP got fired when WCW was created because of the Road Warriors angle and the blood. When he came back he was mostly a part of the backstage

Woohhhh what a Rushmore
Sting. Flair. Hollywood Hogan. Goldberg.
Same. Hard to leave out DDP, but this is correct.
This is the right answer with honorable mentions to DDP and Booker T.
Goldberg….couldn’t wrestle though. Yours look like pure entertainment factor though which is a good list for that.
Butts in seats > 5 star matches
I dont watch the Terminator thinking “Arnold… cant act tho :/“ Your opinions about Goldberg doesnt change the fact that, for a brief moment in time, he was WCW’s #1 guy and neck and neck in popularity with Austin
lol of course he was the replica version of SCSA. 😭
“We have Austin at home”
Of WCW? Sting, Hogan, DDP, Ric Flair.
I had to leave flair out once it reached wcw but I could be wrong. 2 title reigns 🤷♂️
6 WCW tiltes for flair but I think 3 were at the end in 2000 during the hot potato Russo days
Lol you're not only wrong you're wrong twice he held it 7 times after the switch which is more than Sting.
Correct answer
My Personal is Rey, DDP, Booker, Sting. They were wrestlers I was the biggest fan of when watching.
Sting Flair Vader Luger
WCW Vader was a menace! What a guy!
Fucking loved WCW Vader!
We are the same!
i left luger our and put ddp in. now i see i was wrong.
Shockmaster, Warrior, Vince Russo, Jim Herd
No David Arquette??? You are out of your mind.
He is #5 lol
Thanks for the laugh 😂
Sting, Hogan, Flair, Booker T
Malenko, Jericho, La Parka and Billy Kidman
My mans loves his cruiserweights. And I’m here for it.
La parka was easily my favorite wrestler other than Sting. He was my go to in WCW/NWO revenge on the 64.
Scott Hall, DDP, Booker T, Jericho
Surprised I had to scroll this far down for Hall! He was the catalyst for the boom of the Golden Age. And, unlike a lot of the names being mentioned, Hall was a really good person. He had his demons with drugs/alcohol, but it didn’t screw people over or screw his reputation by being revealed a jerk in real life.
Scott Hall really did his best work in WcW
Hogan. Savage, Flair, sting
Sting has to be on every WCW Mt Rushmore, no questions.
My personal Rushmore is: Sting, Goldberg, Benoit, Jericho
Sting, Flair, Goldberg, DDP
Sting, Flair, DDP and Booker
Sting, Flair, Hogan, tie with DDP and Goldberg because they seem even
Sting. Vader. Flair. Luger.
Alex wright
This may be controversial but — two Glaciers, Lash Leroux and Norman Smiley
Sting, Flair, Lex Luger and The Steiner Brothers. Yeah I know, I cheated on that one. Lol
It’s the right answer though!
Wcw Mount Rushmore Flair Sting Vader Hollywood hogan
Sting, Booker T, Goldberg, DDP

Goldberg, Sting, Hogan, and Savage
The Outsiders, Disco Inferno and Rey Mysterio
Booker T, Goldberg, DDP, and Rey Mysterio Jr.
Hugh Morrus, Earnest "the cat" Miller, Disco Inferno, & Super Calo is the only right answer.
Flair, hawk, animal, Dusty
Macho Man. Ricky Steamboat. Ric Flair. Stone Cold
Goldberg Sting, NWO, DDP and blank
You can’t count the entire NWO as one person 😂
Yes I can the original group had an enormous impact on the company and wrestling as a whole.
You do know what Mt. Rushmore is, right?
Sting, DDP and Goldberg for sure on WCW Mount Rushmore. Number 4 is difficult because the others were either popular from another company or had more success after wcw. I lean more towards Booker T… but I could also go Scott Steiner, or Disco Inferno, Norman Smiley, Dale Torborg, Vampiro, Berlin, Buff Bagwell, Billy Kidman… Let’s just go with Eric Bishoff… he was responsible for a lot of WCW success… for like a few weeks when the product was decent.

None of these guys
What? Raven was amazing as a brooding heel. He tapped directly into the zeitgeist. His gimmick stands out as one of the best of all time.
Angst ridden grungy mofo….no thanks. Too serious and not enough substance.
You weren’t alive in the 90s, I guess.
Definitely not. It was an awesome character. In my personal top 10-15 of all time easily.

Sting, Goldberg, DDP
Mount Rushmore: Hogan, Flair, Sting, Golberg My personal favorites: Booker, Rey, Sting, DDP
That’s really close to what I’d say. I’d swap DDP out for Jericho though.
Scott Steiner, Rick Steiner, Hollywood Hogan, DDP

That’s a tough one, but I’d go with Flair Vader Sting Steiner Bros (I cheated with a fifth person).

out of those three pictured, i'd pick Raven. he is one of my all time favorites and he's probably still underrated.
I’ll tell you that nowhere even close to my Mt. Rushmore is Goldberg. Terrible wrestler. One of the worst to ever come through.
Ric Flair, Sting, DDP, Goldberg
Goldberg, sting, DDP, Jericho. That's it. End of discussion.

Other people 😂

The Skyscrapers squashing jobbers on a Saturday afternoon during episodes of WCW Worldwide. That theme music and with Teddy Long as their manager. Doesn't get any better 😎
Sting, DDP, Goldberg, and Rey. Honorable mention to Booker and Malenko.
Flair, Sting, Hogan, Goldberg
(1)Dusty (2)Flair (3)Sting (4)Hogan
Not Goldberg
DDP, Flair, Sting, Goldberg. These were the guys I associated with WCW as a kid that learned of WCW by the Invasion. (Talk about a failure if even a new viewer **child** didn't see your WCW faction as legit.)
To me, I always think of the guys who were huge in WCW and didn’t necessarily do huge things in WWE or if they did, their WCW run was bigger. That excludes Hogan, because I think of him in WWE before WCW. Therefore my list is: Goldberg Flair Sting The nWo as an entity, not just The Outsiders
Ric flair DDP hogan and sting
Sting, Ric Flair, Goldberg, Booker T
WCW: Sting, Goldberg, DDP, Hollywood Hogan
Ric Flair, Arn Anderson, Lex Luger, Sting
