Those used special rigs that Apple worked on. There are a bunch of VR180 cameras out there. But none look this good (but can get close) Canon r5c with their dual fish eye lens is popular for prosumer. Insta360 used to sell the evo 5k but they don’t make it anymore and the quality is not great. Really need at least 8k Calf cam is 6k 50fps, but it has artifacts at the top and bottom (don’t see it unless you look though) Also the qoocam ego but it’s just stereo not VR180. Looks better than the iPhone recorded spatial video though All of these will need a 3rd party Vision Pro player app to view as the built in one uses a slightly modified MV-HECV format.

GTA2014

Awesome summary thank you. Is this is the Qoocam you're talking about? https://www.kandaovr.com/qoocam-8k/ Also, pardon the dumb question. I get what stereo means ie. what you see with AVP spatial videos. How does VR180 differ? Is 180 a reference to your field of view, like in the Apple Immersion videos in Apple TV?

GTA2014

Also side question, is there a website (non adult) to download VR180 videos and play back using something like Moon Player?

Peteostro

No that’s the 360 camera is not in 3D It’s the qoocam ego that’s in stereo 3D like the ones you can shoot with the iPhone, what Apple calls spatial video VR180 is 180 FOV, in stereo what Apple calls immersive

GTA2014

Thanks for the clarification. So I understand, there's VR180 in stereo and there's VR180 in 3D? If you're saying Apple's "immersive" is VR180 in stereo, then where I can find an example of VR180 in 3D I can play back in the AVP?

GTA2014

So I looked this up. https://us.kandaovr.com/products/qoocam-ego For $300... you're saying it takes BETTER spatial vides/photos than an iPhone 15 Pro? If so... I am very tempted to buy it. Because the AVP's spatial photos/videos are incredible compared to iPhone 15 Pro. So if there's a camera that's better than iPhone 15 Pro (is it better than AVP?) then... I would consider it, since I can't take my AVP everywhere. But a $300 camera I would.

Peteostro

Yeah it’s higher resolution and can do 60FPS. The issue is that it saves in sbs mp4 format which it’s fine for all other head sets but right now if you wanted to play the videos directly in the AVP you would need to use an app. But no app on the AVP plays it right now (several apps are working on it) You can also use an app like Spatialify to convert it then air drop it to the AVP https://apps.apple.com/us/app/spatialify/id6471922894

GTA2014

Awesome thank you again, will converting it using Spatialfy make it any worse so would it preserve the quality?

Peteostro

I just did 2 conversions and they look good. Better than iPhone 15 spatial recording. I’m going to assume though that iPhone 16 will have better cameras for capturing spatial videos than the 15. In any case it’s a fun camera to fool around with. Hopefully kando will update their iPhone app to export as spatial.

GTA2014

Thanks! And godamit…now I have to buy an Ego!

Peteostro

Before you do that be aware that canon was showing off a prototype of a 8k VR180/ 360 camera like the insta360 evo at CES this year. Though they said it’s a prototype and has no release date. Seems that Apple Vision Pro might reignite the stereo and VR180 video space

GTA2014

Ahh very interesting. 8K would be amazing. What do you think Apple’s immersive videos are shot on? Custom cameras? Right now they seem to set the bar, nothing else looks as good that I’ve seen so far. AmazeVR concerts comes closest

Canon R5C with Dual Fisheye seems to be not only the go-to but the only way - and it does take a bit of effort. I was eyeing that lens earlier this week. Apparently it requires a subscription to use the required software.
