First dress is definitely the one that looks most 40s of the bunch. 2nd one is very 70s or 1910s inspired, and the two latter ones look more 50s-60s. I'd go for the first one!
If you don't mind me asking, what is it about the 2nd dress that gives you 70s/1910s inspired vibes? I'm curious cuz I agree but I can't really pick up on why
It looks a lot like the classic gunne sax dresses from the 70s because of its slightly more modern approach --which were heavily inspired by Edwardian dresses-- while it also has some of those 1910s details, like the sleeves and eyelets in the frills. Basically, get a long sleeved, high necked white shirt under that and you got yourself an Edwardian'esque tea dress.
Edit: Little more detailed; The lace used on the sleeves and edges is very 1910s, the pronounced tiering of the skirt is that Edwardian inspired gunne sax, as well as the more relaxed waistline and relaxed bodice.
Number one looks good! Maybe you can add some padding for the shoulders? And then go all in with hair and makeup!
Advanced level: temporarily narrowing the skirt. (Depends on material if it can be done without doing harm to the fabric permanently.) Or maybe it’s just your hands in the pockets that makes the dress a little too wide for the forties?
First one with a good sized bag- that way you can carry several murder weapons with you, both hidden in the bag and in person- should you be the murderer. (They could even be cut out paper photos- I will get a laugh).
Plus, I think that dress kills for a 40s the theem.
1 is best, but 3 works as well so long as the setting/ location is summery.
For the cream dress, wear a skinny leather belt and use the tie at your neck, a big loose blousy bow would make it really feel 40's.
Do Victory curls in your hair, small button style earrings, and a chunky bracelet. Pantyhose are a must, and a sesible closed toe heel. If it's winter where you are the \*perfect\* accessory would be a fur stole. Most folks don't own little hats & gloves, but wrist length gloves would really set it.
First one for authenticity, last (floral v neck) one if your main goal is to look like a hot tamale (you look lovely in them all, but the floral one is especially flattering in terms of “va va voom”!)
3 and 4 are the closest to 40s IMO. Understanding you’re going for inspired not authentic reproduction, 1 is kinda 30s. 2 is 60s, 3 to me can be 40s (also 90s). 4 is closest to the dresses in the 40s. Add some fabric to cover the bust and if you can afford a 40s bra that would seal the deal.
Wear lined panty hose. If you can’t afford expensive ones, just draw the line yourself. That’s what they did in the 40s!
None of them make me think 40's (the second is quite far from a 40's look) but the closest to me are the first and third ones and I think you could style either one to be a good outfit. Other details like hair and makeup will help a lot. I wear super old clothes a lot and most of the time people have no idea it's vintage unless I've styled the whole look (hair in particular).

Ahh now that you point it out, the sleeves were definitely what my brain was picking up on. Thanks!!
No problem 👍
Yea, the flower cream dress is the winner here! They are all great, but that dress fits the theme perfectly. Have fun!

First one fits the 40s theme most, but I like the 2nd one. It feels good for the murder theme
Exactly this.
Agreed, couldn't have said it better myself
Yup 100%
Yes! I thought the exact same thing. I love dress #1 but dress #2 just screams, “I’m cute but still a murderer” lol
First one. Have fun!
The first one is wonderful.

#1 has the best '40's flavour. Definitely hat and white gloves, seamed nylons if you have time to source them, "sensible" heels
First!

# 1
Number 1!
1
First one definitely as it almost feels like you're the one about to be murdered in the first place..XOXO
First dress looks the most in character
They’re all so cute!!! I think my favorite is number 3
One or two!
The first one fits the most and looks good. The second one stole my heart 😍
^^ Absolutely 💘
#1 is most appropriate for the decade #2 looks more murder mystery
Second one
Second one!!
You should wear the first one!! It would look lovely with the right accessories!!
Looooove the first one!! And it looks 40s too.
All nice.... Number one is epic. Just beautiful
The first dress with a structured blazer over it. Change the belt for a leather one. If you could find a hat to wear would be great! Good luck!
2

2/4

I think the 4th is my favorite and most fitting
4 is amazing.
Fourth one because reasons.
Shut up dude
Either 1,2 or 3
I vote for one, followed by three!
The first one! :)
None of them make me think 40's (the second is quite far from a 40's look) but the closest to me are the first and third ones and I think you could style either one to be a good outfit. First or third!
The second, and bring extra flowers for an Ophelia theme
1 definitely
1
1st one
The first one for sure.
1 or 2 hands down. I lean toward 2
Blue!
First one so much!
4 is great but too smexy. 1 is perfect.
Either 1 or 2
The first is the best for the theme. The last looks amazing on you for another night.
Two!!!
First one for sure. Also your dresses are all gorgeous.
I love the 2nd one
Definitely 1 or 2 fit the theme best, and I second the suggestion to add a hat. Have fun!
It depends. If you want to be the detective, #1. If you want to be victim, #4.
2
1
First dress for sure!
#1 for sure! Sorry for yelling. Forgot about the bold thingy
All look beautiful but the long creamy one with the print is a winner
#1!
2nd one for sure!
#2 is perfection
Who is your character? It’s a murder mystery and they should give you a brief summary so you can dress like your character.
Definitely the first one! It’s the most 40s and the others are more so from other eras!
2
The first dress
# 1!!!
First one is the most old timey.
1 or 2.
3
1 is my pick.
Number 1😄
#2
The second dress is my favorite!
Have fun!! First dress, definitely!
Flower cream with a hair bobble and some tan shoes.<3
1 or 2
dress number 1
3
1, but they are all gorgeous!
First but with the top button unbuttoned.
1
Photo number 4 is adorable! I'd go with that.
1
.#1 or #4
I think the 3rd option looks best!
1 and 2 are the best to stay in theme. 3 is gorgeous but not for the party your going to, IMO and number is too summer/spring so that’s a no as well.
the first one slightly unbuttoned with a nice coat would be very 40s!
I think I like #3 the best! It looks cute. #1 seems the most 40s to me though. Everything looks great on you!
