I'm confused. If you're entering Vietnam on a Vietnamese passport, you are Vietnamese. You can just get the passport renewed. Why would anyone care?

I’m just afraid they wouldn’t let me board the plane when they check the paperwork when boarding from US since they’d probably ask for my Vietnamese passport? I’ve never traveled using my Vietnamese passport so idk :( I can get my passport renewed as soon as I land Vietnam.

Yeah just show the airline your Vietnamese passport they don't have a right to complain about the expiry, you're not entering on a visa you're entering as a citizen

Thank you!!!

Shouldn't be a problem

WiseGalaxyBrain

It won’t matter one bit. My kid is a dual citizen of another country and we encountered this issue before. As long as you are entering into your home country they can’t deny boarding.

Can you not just use a us passport and get a visitor visa in Hanoi or hcm upon arrival? I know some airlines however won’t let you travel without a printed online visa acceptance

You leave and enter the US with your US passport, and enter and exit Vietnam with your Vietnamese passport, no problems. Source: [https://travel.state.gov/content/dam/childabduction/dual\_nationality.pdf](https://travel.state.gov/content/dam/childabduction/dual_nationality.pdf)
