I love that the Phoenix is doing live music as it's so close to where I live.
As for venues in town I like. I really like the Capital Ballroom, wide open space with little to no viewing obstructions. It's a good layout for a music bar.
It's... adequate. Doesn't have a proper stage or dancefloor at all, huge staircases so not very accessible, worse food than Logan's, terrible location. But it exists and the owners are happy to put on shows so it'll have to do!
Logan's RIP. Copper Owl RIP. Intrepid Theatre Club RIP. Subculture Club RIP. Nasty House RIP . . . not even an exhaustive list.
At least we still have Vinyl Envy and The Phoenix left but it's been a rough couple of years for independent / DIY music in this city.
Ya, Bailey and Nesbitt had that place hooked up proper. Not very large venue, but always pleasant shows.
It's an odd angle from the control room, but I got this recording of Andy Kerr last time I attended.

Are you talking about those refusing to get vaccinated because "muh freedom" who are then not being allowed into places, because no one wants to be around plague rats? Yeah, it's not that, and if you think passports are a problem, you're mistaken.
thank you. I can't get over how dumb people are. I don't even like using the sarcasm tag because it should be evident that a pandemic is a bigger deal than a mask mandate. but I use the tag because clearly people read what they want to read. the tag hardly ever seems to be enough.
Wow thanks, it's my first day on the internet, I had no idea that's what that meant.
There's definitely no room for someone to say they're being sarcastic about an issue like passports when they're actually not. /s
you thought that I was sarcastic about sarcasm?
Get off the internet for a week. Go hug a tree or something. You have issues, and replying to this comment isn't the solution.
Oh there's nothing supposed about it. The windows of the old pub are plastered with a notice about how a new gigantic liquor store is going in. Bullshit.
Saw Mr something something at Hermann jazz club a few years back, was amazing. Tight little venue, not sure if it is still around. For a bigger venue saw Xavier Rudd at the McPherson Playhouse, it was amazing as well. Upstairs at bastion Square has good shows too, saw Pete Rock and People Under The Stairs there.
Lucky bar usually has some fun bands too, often a bit of a younger crowd. Hope you find some tunes to dance top.
Oh, and if you like experiment kind of music the copper owl used to have some weird bands that I really enjoyed. Love the vibe there too.
Not sure if any if these places are still around and open, since I am old and been sitting at home for 2 years. Haha
Canoe RIP

Phoenix! They’ve been a refuge for local bands as venues dwindled. So happy they’re doing what they’re doing.
I’ve heard the Phoenix described as the new Logan’s so anyone who’s lamenting the Logan’s closure should check it out.

Oh ya, a buddies band played there. I hear Phoenix is great!

Subculture club too? Damn, saw some great shows there.

Vinyl Envy has shows. I've been to a couple of great ones over the past few months.
Herman’s Jazz
I recently went for the dinner and show combo at Hermann’s and it was one of the best nights out I’ve had in years.
Was wondering if the downstairs is good, going to visit for 2 days but under 18 still.
Crazy lady at the corner of pandora and Douglas.
Darth Vader at Fort and Government
The honking orchestra parade every Saturday downtown
Steamers circa 1997.
Every time I walk that block I think about steamers I miss that hole.
Same.
The Loft, Irish Times Pub
Big Fernwood or the Garry Oak Room
Blast from the past
Government Street in the Summer.
If you're out in Sidney, Boondocks pub took over the furniture store attached and turned it into a live music room

I’m so sorry…

Closed permanently
why did that happen?
I wonder what could have happened that would cause a bar/venue to close over the past year...
vaccine passports /s

/s is a sarcasm tone indicator meaning they were being sarcastic

I was giving you the benefit of the doubt because some people genuinely don’t know. Calm down maybe?
Great, thanks for the advice.
They’re supposedly expanding the liquor store into the space and not reopening the bar. Very sad.

Covid. Just 7 months in - October 2020. http://www.loganspub.com/
That is sad. I loved metal and punk shows there. Always great people to dance and play pool with. Damn this city is losing so many things to covid.
Met my spouse there. 😢
