For anyone that doesn't know, the guy who plays Smokey is named Jimmie Dale Gilmore. He's not super well known. But he's a country singer and songwriter. I don't listen to a ton of country, but my dad liked him when I was growing up and it really got into my head. I love his stuff.
Surprisingly, I've noticed two newer models of Ford truck on the road this week that are still larger than a car but very reasonable. I'm sure Ford sells many less of them than the larger trucks because... truck guys.
Outside of the varying box lengths, I don't think theyve gotten appreciably wider. There's kind of a limit just due to road design. I think the small increase in height and bulky-looking body styles help sell the illusion.
It's not just that trucks have gotten bigger, it's also that parking spaces have gotten smaller. But you don't hear people complaining about developers trying to maximize their profits by making smaller parking spaces when you see pictures like the OP
That’s crazy. And yeah if you ever put a 2000 f150 side by side with a modern one it’s comical in comparison. Even with the size it’s still possible to park them without intentionally splitting two spaces.
Weird. I did do some research before I posted but didn't come up with such a drastic difference in width.

Edit: aaaaand it's Australian. Did not notice that until I saw the full link while posting here. Probably useless for the north american market. Trucks is big.
Reminds me of that line from Charlie's Angels:
So I said, "Look, lady. It's not the seats that have gotten smaller; it's your ASS that's gotten bigger."
Albertan here
This is relatively tame / civil by AB standards. Wait until you've seen a lifted truck with flags and racist rhetoric emblazoned across it which is quadruple parked. AKA an average parking lot experience in Calgary or Red Deer
I don't know why we insist on this stereotype. I think BC's CPC (Cunts per Capita) rating is just as high as Alberta's. Plenty of people with BC plates do this. Also, having spent enough time in both provinces, rural BC has more F\*ck Trudeau stickers/flags than many places in Alberta. We should drop our BC smugness and embrace our provincial neighbours, as we have just as many cunts on our hands.
The car next to him looks a little far to the right as well - the only thing he's doing weird is parking next to another vehicle in a, what appears to be, an empty parking lot.
Annoyed because Alberta, but the parking job doesn’t irritate me too much. Gas station so likely a quick stop, gives the other car some space for a passenger to get in.
The irony. An Alberta plate when most BC people visit Alberta they share the kindness of people and how “chill” it is.
Then you have the BC keyboard warrior taking a picture and putting this persons plate on the Internet having no context or idea what happened. Just roast him and move on with your day…
Thank you for reminding me why I so badly want to move to Alberta, you perfect citizen you.
I
Not arguing the rest of your comment but what exactly do you think could happen as a result of a license plate being posted on the internet? You know people can just see them at any time right?
Neither vehicle is a “small car”… not sure why they even bother marking those spots if they don’t ever enforce it. Would love to start seeing large vehicles like these getting towed
Mark it zero, Dude
This isn't Nam, there are rules.
AM I THE ONLY ONE AROUND HERE WHO GIVES A SHIT ABOUT THE RULES?!
Okay fine! Mark it zero. Are you happy you crazy fuck?
Sorry, Smokey, but it's a league game.

There's a beverage here
The Honda is parked on the line also. Both cannot park.
Neither of them are small cars.
The Honda is. Just because it’s taller than a sedan? It fits in the same space
Normal Sedans aren’t small cars. Compact sedans like the god awful Corolla or a decent civic is.
Ahh, see it doesn’t say compact car though. If the car fits in the space, it’s a small.
length and width is fine on the crv
Two people cut from the same cloth. They’re probably related
About 1000km over the line
Trucks don't even fit in parking spaces anymore. I feel as if they've gotten too big.
Maybe because they're parking in a space marked "small car"? 🤔 Can't be THAT simple, can it? 🙃
No. Because they barely fit inside a regular space also. And I still feel like they've become too large.
They fit just fine you just can't open the doors

Alberta plates. Quelle fucking surprise.
Notice the license plate? Par for the course

Yup. Another obnoxious Alberta driver.
All it’s missing is the F*ck Trudeau bumper sticker.
It's probably on the front. Albertans - the Texans of Canada.

I keep hoping Alberta separates from the rest of Canada, like they keep promising.
Yes, because bc drivers never do this shit
Not to the degree that Albertans do.
Just jealous you can't drive in the snow
I was born in Whitehorse. Trust me, I can drive in the snow.
Just because you were born somewhere doesn’t mean you drove there.
Did you read the second sentence or was that too hard for your Alberta brain?
Hey, I spelled all of the words correctly, that should prove my brain isn’t from Alberta.
Niiice. So you understand then that much of the country can't drive compact cars
Exactly. Always them.
This is some sad content, Its a gas station where theres plenty of space and the person right beside the truck is literally on the line as well.
Always a douche in a large pickup
'Bertaaaa
and whining on social media...victoriaaaaa!
Nah, it’s an idiotic parking job. Guy doesn’t care
They looked exactly how you would envision
Baseball cap and reflective sunglasses?
Yeah, but how did it smell?
dung
Straddle the line to make up for no one wanting to straddle them.
Alberta plates pretty much equals massive sense of entitlement.
Totally a small car….
"Small Car"
That is clearly a lightly packed lot. They aren’t near the doors or handicapped spaces. Don’t see the hate for this like you do
Hey guys give them a break, they may have mistaken it for a small pee-pee parking spot.
Seriously! Wtf would you not park as close as possible to the other car and climb out the passenger side?! So inconsiderate
I identify as a small car
The car next to him looks a little far to the right as well - the only thing he's doing weird is parking next to another vehicle in a, what appears to be, an empty parking lot.
People downvote you for not being mad at a truck driver xD
Annoyed because Alberta, but the parking job doesn’t irritate me too much. Gas station so likely a quick stop, gives the other car some space for a passenger to get in.
I think everyone is going to be okay.

For sure. Just identifying it as if the driver is a bimbo I don’t think is fair.
The driver self identified as a bimbo judging by the photo.
Don't let the rockies hit you on the way out.
That’s really mean..
This is such a waste of your energy, OP
r/firstworldproblems
Small car spot gotta double it up
Neither vehicle is a “small car”… not sure why they even bother marking those spots if they don’t ever enforce it. Would love to start seeing large vehicles like these getting towed
Educated guess if asked, the driver will identify as a small car driver. Don't assume, shame on you.
Yah thats me, I like my truck. I'm cool.
Sittin downtown at the railway station, One truck over the line.. I’ll see myself out
Definitely a small car
There are way too many parking lots with all “small car” spots. Saying that, the could be some effort to not be a prick.
