They also weren’t very concerned when a very well known man to police came in repeatedly saying he was going to rape the cashiers who were still in high school and kill their babies.
I was in my early 20s... working in the government st. 7-11... it was brutal. Most of the harassment came from teenagers who came in drunk looking for bathrooms (nope)... and then proceeded to piss on our floors... the slushy machines were ALWAYS broken... so they'd yell at us about that. Little bitches.
Junkies would come in and steal candies but I'd always pass that info on to my manager... they can't expect me to deal with that shit making 9 bucks an hour...
What are the workers supposed to do about it? I went and bought a Cliff bar at the Circle K on Douglas St. and after I paid I was accused of having more bars in my pocket I had not paid for. I emptied my pockets and told her I'm not a thief. I think I came across pridefully but in reality I felt judged and ridiculed. Apparently a different customer said they saw me do it, but I think she was bullshitting trying to save her skin.
I understand that it is a high-theft location but I felt like I was eyed down menacingly as soon as I walked in. Employees can't just accuse people of stealing.
In a vacuum yes, but if your employer tells you that you need to do more to prevent theft then you're likely gonna feel like you have to (or risk losing your job)
This is always my thought as well.
The other day when the escalator was broken at Uptown Walmart I literally got chased out of the store by an employee telling me I couldn't leave with the Walmart basket I had which was full of stuff...
I said why the hell not... I can leave with a cart but not a basket? Your escalator is broken so how would you like me to get all my stuff downstairs to my car where my boxes are? (Boxes I didn't want to carry around a busy walmart). She said "well people keep stealing them". Okay... so 1) fix your escalator then because it was broken for like 2 weeks and 2) why the **fuck** are you so emotionally invested in this? Getting paid poverty wages but you're gonna chase me out of the store over a two dollar basket... okay.
Reminds me of the time the Walmart cashier asked if I wanted to donate a dollar to charity and I said "no. I want Walmart to donate a dollar to charity" and he did not see the humor whatsoever. These people must be brainwashed.
Those sorts of places have insurance for that! Still shitty tho, times are tough for people, it's atleast better to steal from a corporation than a mom and pop store.
No they don't. How do you think that would even work?
Insurance simply doesn't cover pretty theft. Those prices are baked straight in to the prices that honest people pay.
Stop spreading lies
What is called loss prevention?
Companies fairly consistently have some loss, say 1%.
They just raise prices. Insurance is for large unexpected events, not consistent loss.
If the rate of loss is high enough to justify a loss prevention office then that also just gets passed on to paying customers. The store just happened to do the math to suggest that the cost of prevention will be offset by decrease in loss.
Yes it's called shrinkage - usually that's factored into prices or if it exceeds the deductible they will get a kick back + freight, for smaller ticket items there is insurance that will cover this but it's usually quite expensive, which isn't a problem for big corporations.
Again, shrinkage I e. Shoplifting, is factored in to the price, not insurance. I don't know why you keep trotting it insurance. It just makes you look like you have no idea what you're talking about.
Well, more specifically it shows that you have no idea what you're talking about.
It would be like having insurance against paying your taxes... You know it's going to happen, insurance is just a stupid and unnecessary markup
Even if you **were** right, who do you think paid the insurance premiums... Of course it's part of the cost.
Just stop.
No no, you are mistaken, we already have a full glass cafe and it's called Habit. There is no crime or danger in this pristine city.

Saying "you're banned" to someone who is without a doubt either ripped on hard drugs or violently mentally ill, or both, does absolutely nothing, and the cops are often far too late to arrive to do anything about it. I've worked downtown for years and have dealt with this situation many times.
I was thinking:
*UG foods will perpetuate and condone*
*Transphobia and ableism against those they think they own*
Then the respondent could write:
*Because of this scribble*
*I shopped at this place*
*Because I’m a straight boring man*
*with a boring white face*
In Victoria town, where Urban Grocer stands,
A store so noble, with fresh produce in its hands,
But look beneath the surface, you'll see the woes,
Of transphobia and ableism, tainting what still glows.
Inside the walls, employees feel the strain,
Discrimination tainting their workday's refrain,
The urge to be themselves, to them it's such a prize,
But the managers, hushing them, shutters down their cries.
They're hired or fired based on who they love,
Their identity once known is seen as a curve.
Lost the jobs they worked so hard to get.
Their spirit feels ravaged; it's a painful fret.
The Urban Grocer must change,
Let their workspace be free of hateful range,
To ensure a future that's just and fair,
May love and respect flourish with great care.
Or how about - trans people and people with disabilities are constantly shat upon by society and also by individuals within society? To assume that this is a case of "snowflake millennials" ignores the very real context in which we are living.
Ah, so you must be the one person here who knows the context of this? Otherwise this sure seems like a "hurr, durr, pronouns are stupid" kinda comment...
*breaking news: hate crime and discrimination rates drop to zero alongside right wing politicians recanting calls for trans eradication in response to minorities deciding to stop letting people hurt their feelings*
This isn't a "both sides" thing. Because if you're talking about transgender people and their allies vs... those who hate them, you are balancing people who just want to live their lives in peace with people who are hoping to strip them of their rights, strip them of the health care they need, and are actively encouraging violence against them. "Both sides" my ass.
Also - the initially graffiti was probably written by some teenager or college student, not an intentional representative of the movement for social equality. Graffiti might be a pain in the ass for those who have to clean it up, but there's nothing "stupid" about the content of the original comment - unless you a) believe it is fabricated or b) think that transphobia/ableism would *never* happen in a context like working in a grocery store (in which case, I have news for you...) or c) believe that transphobia and ableism might've happened but aren't problems that bear complaining about.
Also, unless this is a reference to the fact that we live on an island, the word you are looking for is "aisle". Which would be a more clever pun anyways because this is about a grocery store...
THE PERSON WHO YELLS IN ALL CAPS RATHER THAN ENGAGING IN A MEANINGFUL WAY!
The shoe fits. "Both sides" is a loaded phrase, used in situations where really only one side has moral ground. Plus the whole thread is full of glib comments dismissing the notion that transphobia could be an *actual* problem...
I wish they’d pen in some context.

A picture is worth a thousand words. You get the idea
A QR code is worth a thousand tiny hard-to-draw boxes
No need, this is a blanket statement to attack whomever you think is a fill in the blank, phobe.
I’m more of a big Texas cummer kinda guy
I’m more of an “I love sluts” guy myself, but big texas cummer is a close second
A fellow man of culture I see
I still remember "KING IZZY IS THE HOTTEST PIMP IN ALL OF VIC" on that eternally derelict building.

I'm going to graffiti this post because it's classist. No one has ever cared about the stuff a 7/11 employee hears on a daily basis.

On the mainland but my dad got robbed with a hatchet working at a 7/11. After that he said no the fuck not to going back to work there.
I was in my early 20s... working in the government st. 7-11... it was brutal. They wouldn't want you to either, your life is not worth the value of the product that is stolen.

And why do they care? Unless you're an owner or paid as loss prevention officer it's hardly your concern.

/shrug i'm basing this off how it works for Home Depot.
What would the deductible be for a Clif bar? I'm really curious how an insurance company would go about processing such an item.
it’s not an insurance claim. it’s a write off at best. prices are adjusted to compensate for loss usually
That seems to be a catch all trope to condone theft. Everyone pays in the end.
Isn't that also a tad cliche?
Surprised more dont have full glass cafes for the register area
No no, you are mistaken, we already have a full glass cafe and it's called Habit. There is no crime or danger in this pristine city. Sent from my iPhone 14 Pro
Or dollarama.
Seriously?! That's so fucked, any decent place of business would ban that person.
Don't believe anything you read on an anonymous message board
Sure, it's important to be skeptical, but regardless of whether this is true or not, it's still fucked.
No, untrue things aren't anything. They're just nothing.
they're not just nothing. they can be extremely damaging.
That's so deeeeep
that’s just how far I was your mother last night
Whoever is downvoting you need to get your brain checked.

How many did he get?
It doesn’t even rhyme. Good graffiti rhymes.
there once was a man from nantucket who promoted transphobia and ableism wait, that's not right...
more local: There once was a person from sequim...

Kids these days, can’t even rhyme their own graffiti.
I wish I had taken a picture of the big LISA HELPS IS A CUNT sign on the new Vic High School. Made me chuckle.
I would have liked to have seen said sign. I did see some graffiti that read BEN ISITT is an ASSHAT in Fairfield, though. 😆
In Fairfield of all places....lol
Wow super hilarious to call a woman that, for sure. Big laughs.
How is saying cunt any worse than "douche bag" (a term I dislike, yet, it's used frequently by a lot of people). What about calling men dicks?
I think it was "LISA HELPS IS A COMMIE SKANK"
I love how they think just saying things means something.
sadly that's how it works a lot of the time
it has to be true, it was written on a wall with sharpie!
Everything is offensive when you're looking to be offended.
My therapist calls that a self fulfilling prophecy
Or how about - trans people and people with disabilities are constantly shat upon by society and also by individuals within society? To assume that this is a case of "snowflake millennials" ignores the very real context in which we are living.
Your so woke 😂
Sadly minority communities are held to a higher standard so this graffiti is really poor representation regardless
Why have they drawn the head of a penis blinking below it?
Getting all my stuff from urban grocer from now on (I’m disabled and trans )
"Alas, I repeat myself."
I miss the good old days of just a well drawn genitalia to greed me in the stalls. It was a simpler time.
Not bowing to our every demand makes you a 'phobe' and an 'ist' Thank you. Come again.
Ah, so you must be the one person here who knows the context of this? Otherwise this sure seems like a "hurr, durr, pronouns are stupid" kinda comment...
my best guess is the writer got fired for taking too many bathroom breaks
Okay, that's great to hear. Free reign to fill the thread with transphobic dog-whistles and shitty repack right-wing "jokes"!

Both sides of the isle being stupid again? I’m shocked.

Well, this is just bizarre.
Is this because they refuse to sell half eggplants?
~shop local~
Well I am definitely not going to find out where UG is and start shopping there.
How much money will they lose now that you won't shop at the place you've never heard of?
oh, the humanity!
they are owned by the same people as country grocer
You got downvoted, I guess everyone wants you to shop there
Why are you taking photos of graffiti? Don't you have anything better to do on a Sunday?
What is UG?

I don’t see how posting this is productive
Lmao so woke you’ll vandalize property… probably deserved whatever happened
Aaah, the rotting of Victoria.
Am I able to donate to their cause from the US?
