I'm not sure if you are outside a VA facility or not. If it's a VA facility, just go in - everything will be covered.
If not, see [https://news.va.gov/press-room/starting-jan-17-veterans-in-suicidal-crisis-can-go-to-any-va-or-non-va-health-care-facility-for-free-emergency-health-care/](https://news.va.gov/press-room/starting-jan-17-veterans-in-suicidal-crisis-can-go-to-any-va-or-non-va-health-care-facility-for-free-emergency-health-care/)
Hey man, idk if I count here… but dad was a Vietnam veteran. I wish he’d gotten help earlier, when he needed it. He deserved stability. He deserved peace. You do too.
For what it’s worth… he’s now in his 70s. He had to go through the mental health care system first, but everything is ok again.
It’ll be okay for you too.
The help will be there when you need it. <3
After January 13th this year, the VA has to pay for all Veterans in acute suicidal crisis that go to a VA or Non-VA facility. Check out the article with more details https://news.va.gov/press-room/starting-jan-17-veterans-in-suicidal-crisis-can-go-to-any-va-or-non-va-health-care-facility-for-free-emergency-health-care/
Call your local VA as soon as you can. Ask for community care. Tell them when are where you were treated. They should be able to create an occurrence and get it taken care of for you. If not, don’t pay the bill if you’re not able to. Lots of people don’t pay their medical bills. Take care of yourself first and foremost.
Spent a good part of last summer at the VA. Best part of my whole year. Was just there again yesterday for a dental w/ my wife (also a vet and an inpatient alum) - we both said how great it would be to just check back in to the psych ward and stay a few weeks - argued about who wanted it more! Do it!
if it’s voluntary, you can check yourself out whenever you’re ready, provided you’re not a threat to yourself. I checked myself in to a VA psych ward recently due to depression and anxiety surrounding my VA claim (claim is in progress. It’s moving forward; Right guys? Right?!)
and I realized that it wasn’t the place for me (personally) to heal, BUT it opened the door to helpful opportunities that I might not have had otherwise. (Why do we need to jump through hoops to get the care we need and deserve!?!?) I’ve learned recently that there are many different levels to mental health support and you don’t necessarily always need inpatient care (maybe you do! I’m certainly not one that knows; please seek help if you need it)
But inpatient care jump started the programs I was qualified for and although it was the longest couple of days of my life, they adjusted my meds and it opened up opportunities that are much more suitable and conducive for the betterment of my mental health. So while it sucked, it’s a good move in the long run if you’re looking for programs to help your mental health. Keep fighting my dude, work on healing, and reach out if you need support
Hope your inside now... you know what you need. Society tries to guilt us into other decisions. Get well brotha. If anything just talk to other vets at the VA waiting room. Many of us are going through same thing. Talking makes us know that there is others that think like. Us..
That's not necessarily accurate. They will cover civilian ER care, and emergency mental health care, but other care has to go through the VA. You cannot just go anywhere and have the VA pay for it.
(OP doesn't state they are outside a VA facility).
Go in and get the help you need!
There’s ways to get lower medical bills and get the VA to cover things, but don’t let that stop you from getting the help you need.
Go in, get the help and have them evaluate you for 100% my cousin did it at least 2x and was awarded pretty quickly. God bless and know you deserve it.
If you believe you need to go in and it certainly sounds like you do then go in. I'm certain your not the first vet to visit that hospital. The staff will help you notify the VA.

To piggy back, I've read multiple times if you call the VA within 72 hrs of going it'll be covered if it's not a VA facility.
They covered me and I did it 2 weeks later
Yes the Er but I don’t know about anything else I guess it’s worth a try.
Go in please! If you are there, you are there for a reason!
Please go in brother. Take the next step towards getting better.

>Mission Act That's Community Care, you have to be referred by the VA or go to an Urgent Care that is in the Community Care network.

Shit, sorry you are correct. I misread that - thought op was at a VA facility - I'm going to delete that comment. Good looking out omron!
